So I was performing the Facepalm S-off method and ran into this when I got the push soffbin3 step
-------------------------------------------------
adb push soffbin3 /data/local/tmp
"cannot stat 'soffbin3': No such file or directory"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any idea what that means or what to do from here?
Did you put the file in the folder that contains adb (most likely your platform-tools folder) or change directory to that folder?

yep. the soffbin3.zip file is there.

First off - got it work. I'm showing S-off now! :arty::
Yep, had the 99 error. So I rebooted into recovery, wiped cache and dalvik cache - then did a hard power off. Powered on into bootloader.
Then repeated all the steps and got the 92 this time.
The reason why it failed the first time was because I forgot to grant adb su access. Second time around I caught it and granted the permissions request but only on third command of "adb shell su -c...etc"
Does the second command "adb shell chmod 744...etc" need su access to perform correctly? What does that command do anyway.
I'm wondering if the second command needed su, I may have messed something up that won't rear its ugly head until I stumble on it.
I checked the log for su requests and adb only popped up once, which means the "adb shell su -c..." is the only one that needed.
I think I'm in the clear!
To be honest I'm not sure what it does either lol. But I do know the command: adb shell su -c "/data/local/tmp/soffbin3" will contact SU and you have to grant access. Glad you got it, though!

How to Flash a ROM Without an SD Card
This is for all those who don't have a working sdcard, sdcard slot, etc. but want still to flash a new rom
Prerequisites:
Flash an Amon_RA recovery if you're using Clockwork - I recommend Darch's unofficial (CDMA Hero refer to my signature if you need it)
Access to a computer that had AndroidSDK tools on it - you'll be using ADB
Put whichever ROM.zip you want to flash in your android-sdk\tools folder - I would rename it to something simple. (My example which I'll be using for this tut is: C:\AndroidSDK\toosl\ROM.zip)
Directions:
Reboot into the Amon_RA recovery
Wipe data/factory reset, cache, and dalvik via the recovery menu
Open up cmd/terminal on your computer
Navigate to your android-sdk\tools directory
Enter the following in cmd/terminal:
Code:
adb shell
mount data
*wait a second or two* You may or may not get the "/ #" line returned.
Despite what happens press "Ctrl+C" to break the command and get back to the standard AndroidSDK\tools> directory
Enter the following in cmd/terminal:
(replace "ROM.zip" with the name you're using)
Code:
adb push ./ROM.zip /data/
*this will take anywhere from 30sec to a min depending on the rom.zip size*
Then we do this in cmd:
Code:
adb shell
recovery --update_package=DATA:ROM.zip
Wait for it to finish flashing/updating
Reboot
ENJOY
Brief rundown of what we just did:
Wiped /data/ to free up space for the zip
Put our ROM.zip onto the /data/ partition since we don't have an SD Card to work with.
Told the recovery to flash from our /data/ partition instead of /sdcard/
I did some digging around the AmonRA github to look for the commands it actually performs while in recovery I figured out exactly how to do what I wanted.
(namely THIS PAGE for those of you who are interested in seeing the exact page I found them on)
Good knowledge man. Thanks for the guide

It would be the name of the file you are trying to flash.
How do you flash the recovery without an SD card tho?
EDIT: I figured it out. I will post my steps later.
Here is what I did:
Rooted phone
Attempted to push Flash_image - failed due to filesystem permissions
Steps for Flash_Image:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system/bin
chmod 777 /system/bin
exit/ctrl+c
adb shell
adb push flash_image.zip /system/bin/flash_image
adb shell chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
Flashing Recovery:
adb push Recovery.img /system/bin/
adb shell
flash_image recovery /system/bin/Recovery.img
rm /system/bin/Recovery.img
reboot recovery
Then proceeded to follow the steps in this guide successfully

So would that be like this:
Code:
adb remount

adb push flash_image.zip /system/bin/flash_image
adb shell chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
Just confirming because I am about to feature this method on the blog I write for (with credit to Stuke00 and a link to his post) and don't wanna mess up. =)
EDIT: Forgot to mention that you rock! Thanks for the earlier help too.
EDIT 2: Nevermind, did some reading on what 'adb remount' does and found out it remounts /system with read+write access so I guess this is it. Though please do correct me if I am still wrong (which I am often).

Dunno, I don't have plans for using it ever again nor have I looked at Clockwork's github - if there is one.
But it should be able to if you can find out what scripts/commands are run when you use the menu. If you want to you can check the github link I have in the OP to see where I found the commands that are run, and then look for something similar in clockwork's source.
You'd be looking for something similar to:
Code:
--update_package=root:path - verify install an OTA package file
Thanks for the awesome guide! Saves me a lot of trouble, I don't have to take out my sdcard or manually enable USB in recovery anymore!
for me
for me it did not work in data but it worked in cache

what recovery are you using?
I used the eacy one click to root phone. I would like to unroot it now. I am having touch screen freezing problem. I need to start removing applications to see which one is causing the problem or if it is a hardware issue or software.
I downloaded the zip file 1-click_exploit. I expanded the files and ran the application. I have read that there is an option to uninstall with in that file but I don't see one. Where do I find it. If I just do a factory reset will it remove it? If I do a reset do I have to repurchase all of my apps?
Thank you in advance!
A factory data reset will not remove root.
Also, a reset does not delete your purchases. They are all stored in your google account. So, if they do get deleted, just reinstall them.
As far as unrooting, I do not know. Someone else may chime in here...probably going to tell you to post in the Q&A section as well.
Doesn't the one-click have an un-root feature?
Sent from my bootloader-locked MB865.
The one click method also has an un root option in the folder.

Generally the only trace rooting leaves is a setuid binary "su" in /system/bin. And Superuser.apk to manage permission which apps get to invoke the binary. So unrooting involves uninstalling Superuser application and removing the su binary. If you want to do it by hand: (1) adb remount (2) adb shell (3) su (4) rm /system/bin/su

Out of these files, adb.exe and .dll files are left in your windows PC. Not sure if they are deleted afterwards, if not, you can always unzip the above into a directory. You'll need the adb and the dll files.
The su and superuser.apk are two files that are pushed to your phone that provides the root functionality.
The zerg file is the exploit payload temporarily used to root your phone, and removed later by the script.
So if you have unzipped these into a directory, connect your phone via USB (make sure usb debugging is on), and run the commands
Code:
adb.exe remount
adb.exe shell
su // superuser may pop a permission request on phone screen
rm /system/bin/su
rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
exit

1. yes -- charge only
2. it is better to open a command prompt -- in run commands type in "cmd" which'll give you a shell, easy to track command outputs
3. in that shell cd to the directory you unzipped and run "adb.exe remount"
4. Unless it says "remount succeeded" further operations won't succeed
5. After you execute "su" your prompt will change from $ to # ... is this happening?
6. Only on # prompt, you can do "rm /system/bin/su" ... that too only if remount succeeded
Let us know at which step it fails.

I think I might have found the issue. I think I forgot to copy the 'su' executable from /sdcard to /system/xbin. I've copied the correct 'su' executable to /system/xbin now. I'll have to test it later, I'm connected remotely at the moment so I can only do the shell stuff, I can't run Superuser.
What is the difference between the nativesu and the su copied from the attachment on this thread. There is a significant difference in size. Is the native su crippled in someway?

do i actually put the data local tmp part in or am i supposed to be putting in my local directory where i have the file on my computer
when i adb devices , i can see my device, so it is connected
in adb when i " adb reboot" it does reboot my phone
but when i try to push the firewater file it does not push , i get this

Hmm. Are you copy pasting the messages? Make sure you don't have any spaces in wrong places. Maybe try a factory reset on said device. Just confirming firewater and adb are in the same directory?

Click on weaksauce to make sure it is still working and you may have to click on a prompt and then try ADB again after that.
Figured out what it was at about 12 midnight, I had to add in the directory then put the data/local/ tmp/ etc after that.
So problem is all solved thank god was justa long night of trying commands
where you add the directory?
I am trying to replace my digitizer firmware so G01 will work in place of the 5185FC I replaced.
I was following a guide which told me to type this in:
$adb push 02-3011-4820.ekt /sdcard/
$adb push 02-3011-4820.ekt /sdcard/
$adb shell
$su
#touch_fw_update command -u /sdcard/02-3011-4820.ekt
Click to collapse
every time I try to push the new touch firmware I get this
"cannot stat '02-3011-4820.ekt': No such file or directory"
adb detects my device, I havea all the naked drivers, Android studio and JDK 64bit installed.... what else do I need to do?
I'm just wondering what I can do to fix this and get my touchscreen working once and for all!
Thank you so much in advance
And you are in the folder where you have put the file you want to push?
Changed the directory in the command prompt to the correct folder?
edit: ok, if it's linux, not the command prompt, but the shell...

Here is the command you are using to push
Code:
adb push 02-3011-4820.ekt /sdcard/
Maybe try this instead .....
Code:
adb push 02-3011-4820.ekt /sdcard
You can change directory with this
Code:
cd
and you can list files once in adb shell like this
Code:
ls
Thx Josh
I wasn't sure what I should cd to. I also tried ls but wasn't sure what to do from there.
I did look at the tutorial for adb and pushed the file into /sdcard/ from my laptop. It seemed to be successful because this is the message I got
943 KB/s <32868 bytes in 0.034s>

I proceed to type in the following
adb shell
su
touch_fw_update command -u /sdcard/02-3011-4820.ekt
Click to collapse
And that's where I'm stuck with a message
sh: touch_fw_update: not found
Click to collapse
It seems like I'm at least moving forward a couple steps so that's good.
