[Q] Please I need help on how to Root my HTC Desire S Locked HBOOT 2.00.0002 [S-ON] - HTC Desire S

Hello Someone,
I have tried to root my HTC device but it is not working. I have read and followed many tips and threads on this forum but None seem to work.
I have tried using
HTC_QuickRoot_1.1.13_Release
SuperOneClickv2.2-ShortFuse
revolutionary-0.4pre4
My Device:
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT 2.00.002
RADIO 3822.10.08.04_M
HTC DESIRE S
Android v 2.3.5
Software No: 2.13.61.3
They all run fine but my device is still Unroot and locked S-ON, I tried to S-OFF but still not working.
What I want to do is to Root my device, so I could then expand my Internal Memory and also to improve performance of my device.
Without this, I cannot Install any more application, neither are my current Applications able to update, I always get error warning, Insufficient internal Storage.
Please is there anyone out there that can help me resolve these issues?

Have you tried htc dev unlock method?
when you unlock bootloader, you can flash recovery via fastboot ,
and then superuser and its binaries from your new recovery
Edit: depending on your expearience, you may also try to downgrade by misc_version,
and then s- off via Revolutionary method.....

1. Unlock bootloader at HTC Dev by selecting "All Other Supported Models" from the drop down menu and then follow the instructions.
2. Download SuperOneClick. Ensure USB Debugging is enabled on your phone and hit the "Root" button
Next time read the guides before asking questions.
Also... if you don't have enough internal memory, move your apps to the SD card :|

There is no issue with the methods. This Index Thread has all the listed way to unlock/-soff your phone that have been working for all desire s users here.
I would suggest you to pick a method, read it over and over again, google the meanings and take your time(atleast a day or 2) to root it.
When u encounter an error in any step, goggle it, because you a not the first ask and it is quicker than waiting for people to reply.

Try this. If you have any problems with this guide you can PM me I'll help you.

@oddoneout
I did read the Guides and Read over 12 threads before attempts, They all did not work, I didnt try HTC Dev bcoz its process was a bit confusing and since They said Quick root does it all I thought that was much easier. But thanks anyway.

Unlocking your bootloader with HTC Dev is probably the easiest way to root, and it's fairly simple.
Follow each step carefully. If you're getting stuck, post exactly where it is you're having a problem or PM me and I wouldn't mind helping you out.

Custom ROM Help

I was wondering how you would install a custom rom to my ds with the following:
Hboot 2.00.0002 unlocked bootloader with htvdev s on and not rooted.
Thanks in advance
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Install a custom recovery, i.e. clockworkmod, see here under section 1, step 2.
do I have to be rooted?
EDIT: I can't s-off my hboot version is there any way to downgrade?
The suggested guide will still work.
If you want to downgrade, there are two threads here (look for them) already for that. Get shell root, then change the misc version then install the RUU.
can you please give me the link to the thread? and what are chances of bricking if I downgrade? And do I need a goldcard and what is one? Thanks
anyone know what to do?
If you cant use search then you are 100% likely to brick your done....
Go the general section.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1031 ....... Then at the topish right it says search this forum....... type in "downgrade" and make sure show threads is selected (noting worse than a million posts from the same thread)...... then its the the two top ones.
Fear not though I have the link here to the search results.
I understand this is all some sort of crazy back water town language and customs, I really do, so take a week and read read read and read, NOBODY is unable to understand it, crazy I know, but is possible.
And if you did some research you'd see that your questions have been asked (and answered) several times.
Good luck for the week ahead.
thanks a lot so if my phone is branded (which it is to vodafone) i download the vodafone ruu? I am following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399331&highlight=downgrade
does anyone know what to do?
Any help appreciated
As far as i know downgrading works with both branded and unbranded ruus, but i would recommened to use the branded one. Afterwards i would flash the eng hboot (0.98.200) which simplifys further customization.
Sent from my HTC Desire S
i don't understand the bit about the eng hboot what does that mean? and do i need a goldcard? and what is one?
anyone know what to do?
Decide are you going to use HTCdev unlock or are you going to downgrade. If you are sticking with HTCdev then ignore the ENG hboot.
And just make the goldcard already, and no you don't need root, I have two goldcards in drawer, just to be safe, so make the card. I've already told you what to do, you refuse to listen.
I also told you to take a week and read cause you don't know your elbow from you foot currently, and stop bumping your post every few hours.
I won't help any more cause you can't help yourself.

[GUIDE] How to root MT4GS with any HBOOT (updated 11/14/12)

*****
EDIT: PLEASE READ!!!!!!! Before proceeding, you need to find out which hboot your device has and if your device is S-ON or S-OFF. Ensure that Settings>Power>Fast Boot is unchecked and power down your device. Once your device is powered down, hold Power+Volume Down until you reach the bootloader screen.
On the second line, it should say "DOUBLESHOT PVT SHIP S-ON" or "DOUBLESHOT PVT SHIP S-OFF." If you are already S-OFF, great! You can flash a custom recovery in step 5 of this guide (although you need to have ADB/Fastboot installed on your Windows PC).
Your device is most likely S-ON. If so, continue reading. On the third line, your hboot information should be listed. If you have HBOOT-1.45.0013, you have the newer hboot and can follow this entire guide to achieve root. Most newer devices have HBOOT-1.45.0013.
If by chance you have the older HBOOT-1.44.0007, you have two options for rooting your device:
1. Use Revolutionary.io to gain S-OFF on your device. After using Revolutionary to achieve S-OFF, you can install adb/fastboot on your computer (in case you haven't done so already) and continue from step 5 of this guide to flash a custom recovery and Superuser for root,
OR
2. Update to latest OTA release and use this guide from beginning to end. You can update to the latest OTA release by going to Settings>About Phone or by using Blue6IX’s post “How-To: Restore to Stock.” Either method will update you to the latest OTA release (1.63.531.2) and HBOOT-1.45.0013.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you update to latest OTA release with HBOOT-1.45.0013, you will NOT be able to revert back to the older hboot and S-OFF unless you use JuopunutBear to S-OFF. This involves a "wire trick" that some people are not comfortable with.
Many users have successfully achieved S-OFF with JuopunutBear (including me), but others have reported that it bricked their phone. This is usually because they do not follow the directions that say not to touch the bare wire. Check out the JB S-OFF threads here and here for other users’ experiences.
Confused about S-ON vs S-OFF? S-ON, Revolutionary S-OFF, and JuopunutBear S-OFF are described in detail here.
Revolutionary S-OFF is for HBOOT-1.44.0007. JuopunutBear S-OFF is for HBOOT-1.45.0013. Got it? Good.

This is a step-by-step guide for rooting the MT4GS, designed specifically for new users (aka NOOBS), by a noob. The process is slightly more complicated than rooting other devices (i.e. Samsung), but it is well worth it.
The MT4GS is one of the best qwerty phones on the market and has some of the best developers. Don’t let the process discourage or intimidate you. Just FOLLOW EACH STEP IN SEQUENTIAL ORDER and you’ll be fine.
Here’s a breakdown of the process:
1. INSTALL HTC DRIVERS ON YOUR PC.
2. INSTALL ADB AND FASTBOOT ON YOUR PC.
3. REGISTER AT HTC DEV.
4. UNLOCK BOOTLOADER THROUGH HTC DEV.
5. INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY.
6. ROOT YOUR DEVICE.
7. USE JUOPUNUTBEAR TO GAIN S-OFF (OPTIONAL).
-PREREQUISITES-
Before getting started, please visit the MT4GS Compendium and read over Section One to learn the XDA Lingo. You really need to know this stuff if you’re going to tinker with the MT4GS.
Also, all information in the guide assumes you are using a Windows PC and a MT4GS with the STOCK ROM AND HBOOT-1.45.0013. If you are not on the Stock ROM, please use Blue6IX’s post “How-To: Restore to Stock.” Be sure to use the latest OTA (1.63.531.2). Once you're all set, let’s begin, shall we?
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. You assume all risks associated with modifying your phone.
-1. INSTALL HTC DRIVERS ON YOUR PC.-
Install the HTC Drivers on your PC from here.
Before connecting your phone, make sure USB Debugging is enabled (Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging).
Tip: to save time later, turn off your phone, hold down Power & Volume Down simultaneously until you reach the bootloader. Use the volume buttons to navigate to FASTBOOT and select it with the power button. Connect your phone via USB and the bootloader should now say FASTBOOT USB mode. Allow your PC to install the required drivers automatically. It may take a few minutes for your PC to search for and install drivers, so be patient.
-2. INSTALL ADB AND FASTBOOT ON YOUR PC.-
Installing ADB and fastboot on your PC is easy. Follow this guide and you’re good to go. To confirm that you have successfully installed ADB and fastboot, connect phone (with USB Debugging enabled) to PC via USB, open command prompt, and type “adb devices”. Your device ID number should be listed. Here are some useful commands for ADB and fastboot.
-3. REGISTER AT HTC DEV.-
Self-explanatory. Visit HTCDev.com and sign up with a valid e-mail address, as you’ll be receiving your Unlock_code.bin from HTC through this e-mail. Use an alternate browser such as IE, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox if HTC Dev doesn’t play nice with your current browser of choice. Personally, I had to switch between Chrome and Firefox to get the HTC Dev website to cooperate.
-4. UNLOCK BOOTLOADER THROUGH HTC DEV.-
Make sure you’re logged in to HTC Dev and follow on-screen instructions to unlock bootloader. FYI, our device is listed as “myTouch 4G Slide (T-Mobile US)”. You can skip HTC’s instructions until step 5 since they're just telling you how to install ADB and fastboot, but you should already have ADB and fastboot installed .
After you finish unlocking the bootloader, the first line in your bootloader should read “*** UNLOCKED ***”.
-5. INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY.-
Download official ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7 from the ROM Manager website or download another custom recovery from the MT4GS Development section. For instruction purposes, I will assume that you use official CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7. Save the img file to C:\.
Put your phone in bootloader FASTBOOT mode and connect to PC. Go to command prompt on PC and type “fastboot devices”. Once your device ID is listed, type “cd\” to get to “C:\” directory. Then type “fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7-doubleshot.img”.
After fastboot finishes, disconnect your MT4GS, go into bootloader, and go to “RECOVERY.” You should now be in ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7. The first thing I would do in CWM Recovery is make a backup of your stock ROM for safe keeping.
NOTE: Use volume buttons or trackpad to navigate through CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7. Select items by pressing the trackball. Power button may make your screen go blank and Back button returns you to the previous menu.
-6. ROOT YOUR DEVICE.-
Now that you have a custom recovery, you can flash custom ROMs. These custom ROMs are already rooted with Superuser and binary files.
NOTE: If you are S-ON, installing a custom ICS ROM will require an extra step in fastboot. You will have to extract the “boot.img” from the ROM and flash it with fastboot after installing the ROM in CWM recovery. More information from Limewirelord.
HOWEVER, if you want to root the STOCK ROM and/or continue to step 7 to achieve JuopunutBear S-OFF, you’ll have to root the device yourself. This is very simple. Download Superuser ZIP from androidsu.com/superuser. I can only recommend version 3.0.7 efgh because that is the only one I have tested, but newer versions may work.
Place the “Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed” on the ROOT of your SD card. Go to CWM Recovery and use “install zip from sdcard” to flash the Superuser zip. If installation aborts or fails the first time, try to flash the zip again until installation is complete. Reboot your phone and check in your apps to see if Superuser app is there. If so, congratulations, you have successfully rooted your stock MT4GS!
-7. USE JUOPUNUTBEAR TO GAIN S-OFF (OPTIONAL).-
Achieving S-OFF will make your life a lot easier if you want to flash custom ROMs, especially ICS ROMs. Follow instructions for JuopunutBear at unlimited.io and check out the JB S-OFF thread for other users’ experiences.
As I said before, if you are S-ON, flashing ICS ROMs will require an extra step in fastboot. You will have to extract the “boot.img” from the ROM and flash it with fastboot after installing the ROM in CWM recovery. More information from Limewirelord.
If you are S-OFF, you can bypass this step. For this reason alone, I highly recommend JB S-OFF if you have a half hour to spare and some courage for the wire trick. In this post, Indirect explains why JB S-OFF is superior to S-ON and Revolutionary S-OFF. Also, S-ON Unlocked, Revolutionary S-OFF, and JuopunutBear S-OFF are described in detail here.
However, if you plan on staying on stock-based/Gingerbread ROMs, S-OFF may be unnecessary for you. There are pros and cons to staying on 2.3 Gingerbread vs. upgrading to 4.0 ICS (like the stock HTC camera), but I’ll let you make that decision for yourself.
JB S-OFF NOTE: Users have reported that certain SD cards prevent JB S-OFF from working properly. If the wire trick doesn't work for you, try using another SD card and make sure it's formatted to a "FAT" file system and over 512mb in size (thanks to demkantor for this tip).

Hopefully this guide has helped you in some way. XDA has helped me out a lot and I simply wanted to contribute to the community that has given me so much. Feel free to share this guide with noobs in case they have questions about rooting their device (for the millionth time).
It is my hope that this guide aids in answering MOST noob root/modding/”this ROM broke my phone” questions. Noobs, please use the search function and many of the resources at your disposal BEFORE posting another thread. Everyone is here to help, so do your best not to annoy the MT4GS devs and vets.
We all were or still are noobs, so we understand your plight. However, we have seen WAYYYY too many threads that ask the same question over and over. Please consider the devs and XDAers that help you for free. Use the search function and remember to hit the “thanks” button. Thank you!

P.P.P.S. Thanks to ac3theone for this tip. If you begin experiencing an intermittent data issue on any ICS ROM (where your data turns on and off rapidly with a the 'H', '3G,' or data symbol flashing), try going to CWM Recovery and doing a wipe cache/dalvik and FIX PERMISSIONS. Hopefully this solves your intermittent data issue. This issue is ICS specific, so flashing back to a stock-based Gingerbread ROM should also fix the problem.
hopefull we get this sticky'd so that we gett less questions how to root. Nice guide tho
Nice topic and very helpful informations!thanks for the guide .
John9, how many phones do you have? I see you on every forum
i was originally s-off with the rev method and i followed blues how to on how to return to s-on then i updated all the way to the newest ota. I followed this guide and every link posted in the op and a couple hours later im back to s-off ( wire trick ). this guide should really be stickied! im very appreciative that you took the time to lay this out for new users! even though im not i still dont know it all

Thanks for getting this stickied guys. If you think some info or links need to be added, let me know and I'll be glad to update the OP.
Nice guide! Thanks a lot!
Thanks for this guide, there are a lot of threads explaining how to do this but they were all over the place. Until last night, I was S-ON, unlocked but I decided to brave the wire trick and after about a million attempts, am now S-Off. I used this page as my reference starting point throughout since I had to go back to stock. Much appreciated!
I was going to unlock my device and get Clockworkmod installed, but hold off on anything else for the time being. When I went to HTC's website to obtain the unlock file, they indicated that unlocking the device would also wipe it clean. Is this the case or can you use the HTC Unlock and retain all of the current data on your device?
I was hoping to get CWM installed and then do a full backup of everything on my device as it currently stands before starting to play around with any custom roms.
HTCDev factory resets your phone no matter what. You need to do it in order to get CWM on your phone.
If you absolutely need to backup stuff that isn't on your SD card, look into finding an app that can do a backup without root (i.e My Backup). I can't personally recommend one because I've never used one.
Once you're rooted, you can use CWM and a good backup app like Titanium Backup (paid version is definitely worth it).

Alright, I figured that was going to be the case but I was hopeful that maybe I was wrong.
Thanks!
What about mytouch q non-slide?
Does this work for the new tmobile mytouch q that DOESN'T have the qwerty keyboard? Since there's no forum for this phone yet...
This won't work for the LG/Huawei MyTouch Q's. The MyTouch 4G Slide is an entirely different device made by HTC.
on HTCdev under Unlock Bootloader is doesn't show myTouch 4G Slide?!?!:crying:
It's there, I just checked. It's listed as "myTouch 4G Slide (T-Mobile US)."

I found it now thanks, but none of the links for either custom recovery are working? What's with that? I'm doing this for my friend and unlocked his bootloader last night, but when I went to get the custom recovery none of the links work?

I just checked the link CWM Recovery link in step 5 and it worked for me. Download from here if that doesn't work. Recoveries are in the first post. WeekendsR2Short was kind enough to host most of the dev-related files so make sure to press the "Thanks" button for him.
had to thank you for this well written/up to date guide
things went smooth until the wire trick, tried like 5 times and kept sober!
funny thing in the warning it said may fry sd card, so hell i had an old 128mb sd
from like 8 years ago that i have no problem throwing away. guess i need to use a
bigger card! swapped to a 4gb class 2 (next worse card i own)
worked perfect the first time! maybe add a note with the smallest amount of space
required on card (almost 100% certain the card was to blame as i didnt do anything different)
thanks again for the tut, and thanks to the unlimited.IO team, Fuses and hyuh, WeekendsR2Short and whomever else helped!
*side note, flash crashed at the very moment the phone rebooted after the successful wire trick... strange

I'm glad the guide helped you get root and JB S-OFF. As for the minimum SD card size, I'm not sure why your 128mb card didn't work for the wire trick.
It probably has more to do with the way a card is partitioned (FAT32, NTFS, etc.) rather than size. I'll add a note about the SD card partition to the guide for anyone else that may encounter the same issue.
Now that you're S-OFF, enjoy flashing all the awesome ROMs from the Dev section!

[GUIDE] How to Root & S-OFF HTC Sensation - HBOOT 1.27.0000 & Firmware 3.33!

Hey Guys.
Due to the lack of simple NOOB Guides I've decided to make one for all the noobs out there.
(Including me. The amount of help I needed was unimaginable!)
This is the way I gained root and S-OFF. I thought I would help others by telling them my own method.
I HOLD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR A BRICKED PHONE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
STEP 1 - Unlocking the Bootloader.
Visit - www.htcdev.com and pick the Sensation that YOU have.
Here's how you can find out which Sensation you have.
Sensation 4G (T-Mobile) will have a 'customised' T-Mobile case saying 'T-Mobile' in the corner.
Sensation - Vodafone - Will have come with 'branded' firmware. (Vodafone symbol comes up when booting up phone.) Another way of spotting is having random apps. e.g. Music Store.
Sensation (Normal) - Pretty self-explanatory. No symbol when starting up phone, no apps just plain and simple.
REMEMBER TO CHECK USB DEBUGGING
Once you have chosen your correct phone follow the steps for unlocking the bootloader.
When you have completed all the steps on www.htcdev.com you will notice that when you hold 'power' and 'volume down' it says:
***UNLOCKED***
Which obviously means you have unlocked the bootloader.
STEP 2 - Gaining 'S-OFF'
Follow juopunutbear's guide on gaining S-OFF here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614617
I know - using a paperclip? Trust me, worth every bit of time. If it doesn't work then try and try again.
When you've gained 'S-OFF' you should notice that when you hold 'power' and 'volume down' it says:
***UNLOCKED***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT: 1.27.0000 S-OFF
Which is great!
STEP 3 - Flashing a new recovery
REMEMBER TO CHECK USB DEBUGGING
The way I flashed a new recovery was extremely quick and easy:
Download this AMAZING Tool-Kit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497404
All credit goes to hansoon2000!
Power on your phone.
Check you have USB DEBUGGING Enabled.
Plug your phone into your computer.
Make sure you have drivers enabled. (Unlocking the bootloader should of made you download 'HTC SYNC' for the drivers.)
UN-INSTALL HTC SYNC.
Unplug your phone from the usb cable so it enables you to power off.
Hold 'power' and 'volume down' and press power on 'FASTBOOT'
You've entered FASTBOOT.
Plug the USB Cable back into the phone.
Do not touch anything on the phone.
Go onto your computer and open up the HTC ALL IN ONE KIT.
In the top right-hand corner you will see a list of recoveries.
Click 4-EXT.
I've done a picture to help in attachments.
Your phone will go through numerous screens etc. but don't worry! It's flashing your new recovery! So long stock recovery!
When it has finished remember to check if it has worked!
When it has then congrats! Now onto root...
STEP 4 - Gaining Root
REMEMBER TO CHECK USB DEBUGGING
Use the All-in-One-Kit that you downloaded earlier for flashing the recovery to gain root. Read the instructions below.
Assuming you're doing this straight after the last step then you will not need to enter fastboot again, etc.
If not read through the last step again until OPENING THE HTC ALL IN ONE KIT.
This time in the bottom right hand corner you should see perm-root.
SEE ATTACHMENTS FOR A PICTURE.
Click it and let the program install Superuser and gain root access.
You should see SuperUser installed!
If all goes well then Congrats! You have successfully rooted and S-OFF'd your phone.
Now! Who wants a nice new ROM!?
Check this thread by walidhazem for a list of every ROM being developed for the Sensation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613295
Hit thanks if I helped, this post took a lot of time and effort!

after SOFF ..either the person wll have LOCKED hboot or Juopunutbear HBOOT (if he said yes to eng-hboot after soff is done) but no way it stays UNLOCKED
also after doing HTC-DEV unlock and before doing SOFF ..the person should have ROOT too (actually juopunutbear requires root access only which then can be granted via HTC-DEV unlock only )
ROOT is a per-requisite to SOFF
and to just root ..no need to have recovery (unless the guy wants to flash some custom roms) ..he/she can use my one click root tool ..link in my signature (works if the guys just have HTC-DEV unlock too )
and lastly ..there are enough guides already i think ..auggie2k soff guide (which you have linked ) covers the standard SOFF process which has HTC-DEV unlock ..and my guide covers NON HTC-DEV method of SOFF
and for root ..my guide covers it and there is a old guide by VIPERX i believe covers rooting by flashing su zip, also kgs aio tool and hansoons tool covers them too
just my 2 cents here

no you have to do htcdev unlock method first
but you can do S-OFF without htc dev unlock.see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
but as i said before may not be supported with usb 3.0 ports

I was using a method which was in Bahasa (INA), its also similar to your guide, but for ROOT, thats the different. It looks like using old method. But the final result is SuperUser app.

did you got the phone back from repair and motherboard got changed ?
then HTC-DEV unlock might not work
you should try SOFF non HTC-DEV one ...guide link in my signature
On the verge of giving up...
Ok I have followed this guide, looked at multiple others and tried a variety of restarting, uninstalling, re-installing and a myriad of other methods to get this to work and now I really am starting to become frustrated. I wouldn't class myself as someone who is a complete noob, I did manage to root my HTC Desire so I have some understanding of the whole framework, however, I am a noob to these forums so be gentle please
I have a HTC Sensation, I have managed to unlock the bootloader using htcdev guide, I have also managed to flash the touch version of ClockworkMod. Now comes the problem of S-off, the guide that you link too says that you must be rooted before attempting, so I scrolled down and read your method on how to root. I can not find the 4-EXT in the recovery list so I got the touch ClockworkMod, now I don't know exactly what the difference is between these and nothing comes up in the "Attachment Thumbnail."
So my problem here, running Windows Vista 32 bit, I plug in my Sensation, USB debugging enables, open the HTC One X All-In-One Kit and highlight "Perm Root (GB/ICS)". Click Run and so my phone boots up into ClockworkMod, now this is where the problem begins, my laptop then starts looking for "MTP Device" driver and just keeps searching, never finds it and never stops until I unplug it. When I unplug it or restart the phone, the little pop up states "MTP Device installed" however it hasn't because it stills says "Searching preconfigured driver folders". Now the problem with this is that when I start the rooting process on the Command Prompt it just tells me there is an error and it can't find the device.
Now I have tried uninstalling the htc drivers, unistalling other drivers, restarting the laptop, the phone, factory reset the phone, all sorts. So if someone could please shine some light on this for me because I can't see where I'm going wrong with this. Just to add some factors in case they matter, my phone is UK branded from the company "3" it has the 3 logo when it boots up an various 3 apps on the phone. Much appreciated from anyone who can help me with this, I will use the "Thank" button to all those who answer with a valid point so please, any ideas would be grateful.

i totally lolled at the bold sentence of your post
anyways you just want root right
ditch the HTC-ONE-X-TOOL completely its for ONE-X
the same dev made a sensation all in one tool kit too ..its one of sticky thread in sensation development section
anyways as you just need root
use my one click root ...link in my signature (you just need to have drivers installed ..if you dont have drivers check in per-requisites section )
thats all
also you can use kgs super utility for root too ..its a sticky in sensation development section too
Problems with Step 2 - HELP!
Hi Guys,
Im having significant trouble getting through the below instructions - im completely new to this so apologies if i have missed something obvious!#
I have completed step 1 of this without any issues and can see my HTC Sensation is *** UNLOCKED ***. However, i dont seem to be able to complete step 2 point 2 successfully.
Id appreciate an idiots guide to completing step 2.2 onwards if someone could oblige? With special focus on 2 - Restore to Stock 3.32 Rooted ROM & 3 - Flash boot.img from Stock 3.32 Rooted ROM in Fastboot.
Cheers!

Hey Guys.
Due to the lack of simple NOOB Guides I've decided to make one for all the noobs out there.
(Including me. The amount of help I needed was unimaginable!)
This is the way that I found out just by pure luck.
The way I gained perm-root was pretty amazing.
Download this AMAZING Tool-Kit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497404
All credit goes to hansoon2000!
Power on your phone.
Check you have USB DEBUGGING Enabled.
Plug your phone into your computer.
Make sure you have drivers enabled. (Unlocking the bootloader should of made you download 'HTC SYNC' for the drivers. UN-INSTALL HTC SYNC.)
Unplug your phone from the cable so it enables you to power off.
Hold 'power' and 'volume down' and press power on 'FASTBOOT'
You've entered FASTBOOT.
Do not touch anything.
The way I gained perm-root was pretty amazing.
Download this AMAZING Tool-Kit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497404
All credit goes to hansoon2000!
Sense 4 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671547&page=430
Best ROM (In my opinion): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849

[Q] HTC sensation Orange UK S-off and Root

Hi XDA
I have posted a new thread after reading various guides and threads to S-off the sensation.
My problem is that i dont understand some parts in some guides so i cant use that guide.
1 st problem
Unlock bootloader : I have a Htc sensation Orange UK but it isnt listed on the HTC dev website so what do i do ?
2nd problem : I would prefer not to unlock my bootloader via HTC dev because i dont want to void my warranty.
3rd problem : I am running windows 7 32 bit and control bear support has been stopped for it .
4th problem : I dont have any wires to use for control bear so i want to use a paper clip but i dont know if this is correct so can someone verify please ? : (Image attached to this post)
5th problem : I dont know if the method i am understanding for S - off is correct
What i think i need to do ,
Htc dev :
Unlock using htc dev
root using temp toot .bat
run control bear
do wire trick
install h boot
Install recovery
Ganeshp ver
Run temp root
run control bear
do wire trick
install H boot.
Install recovery
6th problem :
I believe you can flash roms with only unlocked bootloader but there is only 1 guide for it and its not very clear.
7th problem : Im afraid about bricking my device
Thanks for helping guys !
Hi, all the questions you have can pretty much be answered with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26280760
S-off by ganesh's guide does not require an unlocked bootloader.
Concerning the wire trick... I used one piece of paperclip so I can verify that it works (I never insulated the paperclip with anything either, so it was just a naked paperclip)
By the way, you never mentioned your bootloader details, but if you have 1.2x bootloader you can use the guide that ganesh wrote about, but if you have an hboot that is a lower version, then you have to use revolutionary's s-off guide.
You can flash ROMs and a custom recovery both s-on and s-off, but if you don't want to unlock your bootloader like you said, then I would try to s-off your device.
Since you are running windows, you probably need the windows version of controlbear.exe. pm me and ask about it, otherwise, ask someone else who has the file.
Good luck! And I hope I answered the questions
I wouldn't worry that much about bricking your device. Just flash the right ROMs and you'll be fine. If you follow all the instructions step by step, then there's nothing that can go wrong.
After you finish tinkering with your phone, I would flash albino's ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37121632
It's silky smooth, has basically no major bugs, and I think the battery is better compared to other ROMs.
Sent from my HTC Sensation
Be careful and do more research on unlocking the bootloader via HTC Dev.
It is not the complete unlocking sollution that HTC leads you to believe it is. It unlocks the bootloader in a very limited fashion, and prevents some full s-off methods from working at all without starting completely over and flashing an RUU (which wipes everything and restores the phone to the way it left the factory)
Meanwhile if you run into warrenty issues later, having used the HTC Dev website tells HTC that you messed with the phone and they could actually deny warrenty service based on that. But if you use other means to unlcoked the bootloader HTC wouldn't know anything about it, so if you flashed an RUU later to return it to bone stock it would be an S-On phone with a locked bootloader again. Warrenty shouldn't be affected.
Also keep in mind that you've got a 2 year old device. The warrenty probably isn't going to last much longer on it anway.

1. I am on 3 mobile and my phone is also not listed on HTCDev. But I chose Sensation (EU) which worked fine. I believe its for all devices issued in Europe.
2. HTCDev voids the warranty as well as wipes off the data. But if you are gonna flash custom ROM or overclock then I guess you would eventually say good bye to your warranty anyway!
3. Burn a live CD for Ubuntu 12.04 and use it for Controlbear wire trick method. You dont need to install Ubuntu if you dont want to. There are guides here which give you controlbear tool for windows but word of advice... use the live CD and follow unlimited.io website only. They have made their tool safer over the time. Trust me its worth every hassle.
4. I am sure you would have a spare network ethernet cable lying somewhere at your place, use that one. Otherwise, people have reported the paper clip to be working but make sure you insulate it properly.
5. Here are the overall steps for everything.
- Unlock bootloader via HTCDev
- Use controlbear tool and wire trick to gain S-OFF (the tool downloaded from unlimited.io for Ubuntu will install custom hboot itself)
- Install custom recovery
- Obtain Root by flashing the zip package via this custom recovery
- Flash custom ROM for ICS (Try Androidrevolution HD... its good)
- You can download apps from the market to overclock your cpu.
(Ofcourse you can install custom ROM without being S-OFF.. use Asskicker's guide, its comprehensive and easy to understand)
6. Read through Ganesh's guide properly and you may be able to flash custom ROM without unlocking bootloader.
7. Everyone should be afraid of bricking their device, I was too. But if you do everything as it has been mentioned in the guide, then you should be confident that everything will be fine.
A few days ago I S-OFFed my device and was scared to my bones that I would brick my device but once I did it, I am feeling so good about it now. The guys here have helped me so much.
I presume you are on 1.2x hboot version.

Ok so i tried it , What i did :
I plugged in my phone and then i clicked root.bat
after temp root i clicked on control bear and it backed up my device etc
Then it told me to do wire trick so i tried my best and the phone went off
I then **** it and looked for flowolfs video on youtube , (the phone plugged in and control bear still running)
Control bear was telling me to check adb drivers and that it was waiting for my device .
I looked at flowolfs video and i unplugged my phone and then i plugged battery back in .
The phone works fine but i had to format sd card.
I went into bootloader but unfortunalty it shows s-on.

Slow down a second, buddy. You're 1 step ahead of yourself. Though I respect your excitment fro this process!
You don't flash firmware in recovery. You flash firmware in bootloader.
Read this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767&highlight=firmware
In it you will find the how to flash firmware (it's REALLY easy. Just make sure to follow the directions.) And you will be able to download the firmware files.
Short version is that you download the firmware file which will be caleld PM58IMG.zip, put it on your SD Card, and reboot into bootloader. Bootlaoder will install the new firmware for you. Don't watch it. Just walk away for 5 minutes, or you are liable to freak out when the screen goes blank during the process. More than one person has gotten scared when that happened and pulled the battey to stop it...which WILL brick the phone. So let it do it's thing in peace. It takes 2 mintues.
When it reboots you will have a shiny new firmware with a fancy updated bootloader as well.
And someone else please answer this...do Kohr-Ah's firmware packages have 4EXT recovery already included? Or perhaps CWM? So that they flash with the firmware? It's been too long sinc eI used one I can't remember.
@Skipjacks
I don't think kohr-ah's firmwares have a recovery installed. Just the radio, adsp.IMG, hboot patch and other stuff that I don't know about. I don't see a recovery.IMG in the zip file. Unless the recovery is rcdata.IMG...

No I don't think that's it either. It must have been the firmwares for my old MyTouch 4G that had recovery included. Like I said, it's been a while.
Just see the 4EXT recovery thread AndroidSupporter posted earlier. It has the recovery download links.

The CID is how HTC locks down the phone so it can only get the updates that they want your phone to get. Each region and carrier has different CIDs, so you can't use a Europe firmware or official ROM on an America phone. Each firmware file contains a list of the CIDs it will install on. If your CID isn't on the list it won't install. But there is a super CID as well that is like a master key. With the superCID on your phone all firmware packages will install.
Read this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
See Step 4 to get Super CID. It's insanely simple as long as you have ADB installed.
Also the 3.33 firmware package may already include your CID. If it does you don't need to get Super CID. But it's easy, so why not?
An MD5 is a code that is generated that shows if 2 files match. If they match, the codes will be the same. If they don't, the files are different. With Firmware, ANY variation in the file can brick your phone. So you ALWAYS want to check to make sure the MD5 of the firmware file you downlaoded matches what it's supposed to be. That's why Kohr-Ah has the MD5 written under each download link.

First link at the top. It's the only 3.33 firmware there for download. (The one at the bottom is just the same file from a different download location)
Here is the same thing cut and pasted from that post. This is what you want.
Firmware 3.33 Universal:
DOWNLOAD:http://d-h.st/SuC
MD5: 07cc2a2ea4473e8fe8d6fe844c4020a1
Just put it on the root directory of the SD Card (don't put it in a folder) and boot into recovery. See if that works. If it doesn't then you have to Super CID. If it works, great. You're done. Flash recovery next.

i have been worried about bricking so much that i didnt try to many weird procedures. i had even tried to go through with the android revolution installation procedure but failed right on. because revolutionary does not with with my device even though thr hboot is supported.
i badly need to move to a newer jelly bean based rom or later else my device is like a stone-age crap. i sincerely request some straight forward process / guidance of getting through this without weird, wire trick etc.
i really want to keep this device instead of buying a new device for no reason. but i dont know how to start and how to end. kindly help me out.

This is definately not the place to ask for "all inclusive help".
You should at least do some own basic researches or leave your phone as it is,
especially when you're worried about bricking your device.
There are so many excellent descriptions here, that could guide you to flash a custom rom.

If you are on hboot 1.18 you don't need to do the wire trick for s-off, just have a look at this.
If you searched a little bit, you'd find out yourself.
But even the wire trick is nothing "bad", I did it on 6 devices till now.
I'd like to encourage you to simply read/search a little bit more here in the forums before coming back and asking for help.

This is definately not the place to ask for "all inclusive help".

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751187 to gain S-OFF. Don't worry about the htcdev part.
I did it on a complete stock sensation xe with hboot 1.27 or 1.29 (can't remember exactly).
Just use the temp root and rumrunner.
For any information read the thread first, before asking.
Also this thread should be moved, because it doesn't belong into the development section.

i went through the thread again and again but still find it somewhat confusing. I cant seem to separate the temproot process start and end in there. can someone outline just the temproot procedure and the pre-requisite for it ?
Does temproot require controlbear files ? rumrunner site says it requires a htc dev unlocked device. is that a must ?

I'm not 100% sure about the exact steps anymore, but you don't need Controlbear, you just need the temp root.
When you have temp root, run rumrunner and follow the instructions.
I said read the thread, cause it might be possible that you get the message that it didn't work, while it actually did work.
You'll get everything needed in the thread. Otherwise just ask.

if revolutionary.io method doesn't work then try to update officially
see this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672425
then try with juopunutbear or rumrunner method again

One thing you could do is:
- get your phone updated to ICS (OTA over device settings) to get the latest firmware/hboot on it
- HTC Dev unlock your device (nothing complicated, you need to have fastboot running)
- Install/flash latest 4ext recovery (once more via fastboot) and enable smart flash option
Now in recovery with updated firmware/hboot make a nandroid backup and flash almost every rom you like.
In first place I'd not flash a CM12 rom.

since you update to ics you will be able to flash every ics/jb/kk/lp custom rom you like
so should i go ahead with the official ics update?
It's up to you.
Might be you're just satisfied with your new ICS firmware.
If you want to go further, unlock and custom recovery is an quite easy step.
For custom rom s-off is not necessarily needed.

If you do the update, try again with rumrunner after it has finished.
Thanks. I updated to ICS and did a full factory reset. The device seems to be quiet smooth compared to GB though. The next update i do will be using what you suggested. Without SOFF flashing a custom rom.
When i get there i will message back on this thread. Going to test drive this ICS now for a while.time.
