Re :
I'm a happy user of CM10 !
At the first glance, I was skeptical about losing stock recovery to CWM since I have always been depending on sammobile releases stock ROM to update my device be it from my own country or others. (with this being said, I already did some research on how to get back to stock ROM )
But, I must say CM10 is the best ROM I have ever used so far :good:

But sir.. as i have read from the CM 10 thread.. there a problems that comes with it.. i wont specify it all but can you enumerate some problems that you encountered so far.. thanks!

I have used both CM10 and Paranoid Android 2.50 but both we're not as fast as Stock ICS ROM.
CM10 made a lot of things laggy including applications and games that were pretty much seamless on stock.
Paranoid was faster than CM10 in terms of navigation and usage as a normal phone/tab, but when it comes to intensive use, both CM10 and PA2.50 suffers.
So I suggest you use the Stock ICS ROM with some tweaks. PIMP MY ROM for example is a good choice. Seeder is a nice addition and Greenify will take you all the way to the top.

Well, apart from the smoothness is slightly slower than the stock ICS when playing games as per what's the above reply, i havn't encounter any major problems.
A few things that i can highlight so far are :
1. Wifi is more stable than stock ICS. I can stay connected from 6pm all the way to 8am the next morning. Back then using ICS, sometimes the wifi will just lost and I have to reconnect to the router in my house.
2. Despite the stable wifi, the battery consumption using wifi is worst than using stock ICS.
3. Data connection is a little unstable when it comes to changing HSDPA mode to EDGE mode. Sometimes have to restart the device.
Anyhow, apart from the above issues I am happy with this ROM currently. I'm just bored using stock ICS anyway. Haha.

Stable OS replacement for stock froyo?

I have been using froyo since I bought the phone. I have been resistant to replacing it with a custom ROM because that always led me down a road of instability on past phones but from what I see of ICS, it looks like a very good upgrade.
That being said, the current jelly beans upgrade still has bugs (namely gps) so I was wondering if there are any previous OS replacements of gingerbread or is that are stable and fully functional?

"gingerbread or ICS"
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Most stable and completely functional would be GB roms like Emancipation or Aeon.
ICS is also quite stable and functional, except for the 720 video recording being choppy, but if it is something you don't use then this could be the one for you. I would recommend cm9, uniyumaporn or remICS-ux
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
most stable and smooth would be stock samsung gingerbread. but cm9 is also a very good choice(smoother than stock actually but no mhl). and gapps in ics are much improved. voice search in particular is way more usable.
I would suggest Aeon for stability.
There are still a handful of bugs on CM9 and CM10. Nothing that stops us early adopters...
if GPS were fixed JB
For stability I loved Emann. Then switched to uniporn until cm10 got GPS up and running. From my experience, as of now Scotts cm10 8/8 build with 7/26 gapps is running perfect for me. I haven't moved to the 8/10 build yet because I don't have use for the mtd partitioning as of yet. I've always had the mind set of don't change a running system. If new features come out in a later build I will definitely update to it. But right now my phone is running super smooth. With working GPS

Don't go JB for at least a couple months. The builds are unstable and they come frequently.
I would go for Entropy CM9 as even if a new build is released you can just flash it on top with no wipe (keep your apps/settings)

In my opinion, it works far smoother than stock ever did for my phone. =D

Go to the development threads and seek your stable rom, stability is up to what you do with your device.
As these threads are way too similar to "best" rom threads, and they always become arguments over what rom is best/stable - This thread is closed.

[Q] Most rocksolid ROM for non techie use.

I love my TF101 and I have always had the cutting edge ROMs on it and just accepted any bugs that it may have knowing I can flash a different one later.
Due to my dad going out of town for work and me not needing my TF, I said he could take it to use to browse the web.. He doesnt need it for anything other then that. He has a GNex so knows the basics of how to run ICS/JB. but he is not about to go root anything..
I want to know what is the best and most rock solid ROM to put on my TF for him.. Like once I hand it off to him, everything should work 100%.. No SOD, RR, or any other issues like the dock not charging, etc.. I need to be able to hand it off to him with a Rock solid Daily Driver ROM that just works.. I dont need any crazy customization or anything fancy..
I personally had ran CM10 and AOKP on it and loved both of them, but they both had bugs that wouldnt fly for him..
Would I be better off going back to stock? Is AOSP rock solid? any other ROMs out there that have 0 issues that a nontechie could use?
I recommended you to flash back its stock firmware. As you see, your dad using a stock rom on Gnex. It will lot more easy for your dad to use a stock firmware.

Makes sense.. Just crushes me to take it from JB back to ICS, even though he wont know a difference, it makes a difference to me.. I was hoping someone had a rocksolid rom to avoid me flashing back to stock, but I will probably end up doing just that.
Go rooted stock ICS with G, s 22.6 kernel. Little OC'd to 1200.
I put both the oldies on it and no drama.. Been 5 months..
I just did a trip back home as OS
And checked it.. All good..

Usage isn't the problem..It's bugs in a Rom that he can't deal with. I will flash back to stock and rock a different kernal. Thanks for the help guys.

I recommend Revolver 4 Rom by Gnufabio, it's rock solid and with Guevor kernel v23 it really flies
Jelly Bean: Team EOS Jelly Bean #74 (With K.A.T kernel)
Has all the good stuff like trackpad cursor, launcher buttons work(and notify when they have been used), very smooth
ICS: Revolution or Revolver
Just as solid as the stock firmware, just faster.
CyanogenMod 9 Stable is what I use and found it to be stable as the developer says I understand the desire to test out the latest and greatest but not to actually use it as your main operating system since it's still in the testing phase and has bugs such as crashes, locks ups, random shutdowns/reboots etc personally I would prefer to just temporarily test out the latest and greatest then go back to what's stable.

??

Well I've had my xoom wifi for about a year, its been good but since upgrading to 4.1.2 its started to get slow,
Opening links take a while and clicking things are a slow, takes a while to show keyboard and links don't work sometimes (takes a few clicks)
I know this has probably been asked 1000's of times but I'm thinking of installing a ROM and need a suggestion,
I need a stable ROM where just about everything works like SD card etc etc and few extras won't be bad,
I like to select my own quick settings but not important
But it must be quick, I can't handle this slowness.
I've seen a few ROMs but not sure what is solid, how are teameos or cm 10.1 ? Differences ?
And are 4.2 Roms worth installing even though they are not official from Google ?
I usually install a ROM and stick to it, I don't like switching between roms,
Thanks in advance
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
You have to try them out. No one can tell how a ROM will perform on your hardware or if you will like it. However, I prefer Team EOS over CM10 because they have their own custom kernel and I like their overall customization options.

Are 4.2.1 roms ok any issues ?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using Tapatalk 2
4.2.1 is ok, but there are a few issues here or there. But they have pretty much been resolved for me, that may or may not be true for you. I prefer 4.2 over 4.1 but that's my preference.

I have been using [ROM][4.2.1] My Android 4.2 for Xoom Wi-Fi - for some time now. It is very stable and I have noticed performance increases over the stock rom.

A Stable rom with 4.1/4.2 (P3100) [request]

I currently use with the cyanogenmod 4.1 (Cyano 10) .. but it has many bugs, the tablet turns itself off, sometimes hangs .. That really leaves something to be desired .. then an application if any of you know of some friends rom with android 4.1 or 4.2 and that is stable, please let me know
- Thank you - Translated by google translator.
You can find many in the development forum .. Personally, I'd prefer CyanogenMod roms , it is stable and receive proper updates and continual developments. AOKP is awesome too .. Should give them a try. Sticking to stocks may be useful sometimes, but if so, we wouldn't be here in the first place
Anyway, I think the best thing is that you try almost everything and then decide by your own

Definitelly try Slimbean. You will be amazed how awesome it is. The last build has a little problem with maps aplication but there is a patch in slimbean thread that solves it. Rom is very stabble and smooth and the battery life is uncompareable to other roms i've tried. For P3100 it's the best non stock based rom that you can get I think(it's my on personal opinion).

Make sure you get the April 29 build and not the may 1st as it has some bugs.

LoL i would like to know to. one method i use is i flash xxkpe, root and wipe data etc... install rom...wipe data, cache and dalvik and reboot but it only seems to work with cm10 A9 builds :/ Current rom slimbean 10.2 A2. epic but hate the batter drain. i wonder if using the media sync, battery database from stock GB rom and merging it with JB builds is possible. then again im a newbie and i dont know **** lol

what i mean is:
Use XXKPQ stock firmware as base (then root)
Calibrate battery apps from playstore (dunno if that works)
install custom rom EHNDROIX which is excellent on battery life but has a few flaws
all in all i dont think custom roms + good battery life go or else samsung wouldve updated our phones with ics/JB but our phones are too poor to handle the newer software so if u want good battery life then stick to stock firmware or gingerbread-based custom roms
10.2 A2 10 hrs. Still good. Sometimes it survives only 6 hrs. I fall down to 10.1 A9 Liquid smooth only for the battery. Tonight gonna test the A3. Let's see what is waiting with A3. Hope the best.

Very long battery life with CM10 Alpha 4 with Alpha 11 kernel v4 about 12-16 hours, but CM10.1 Alpha 9 only 6-8 hours. (Not sleep, Wi-Fi, gaming, 3G, calling)

how long does it last?
I am also looking for a stable Android 4.1 or 4.2 ROM for my i9003, I don't want too-many features but the ROM should be light and should have all basic features like wifi / calling / keyboard working.
I have noticed that all 4.1 or 4.2 ROMs heat up the phone as our hardware is old and the basic hardware requirement for these ROM is higher.
If a lighter ROM can be prepared with basic functionality then the battery should also last.

You won't have the same battery duration with a custom ROM. ICS and JB needs more resources and battery drain faster. If you need battery duration, try with a GB ROM.
