[MOD] [ZipTHemer] Flashable Softkey MOD - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

This MOD works with the following ROMs:
CleanROM 6 (may work with 5.6 but i havent tested)
Eclipse v1.2
Jelly 'Beans' Builds 10 - 12, 13
Synergy 373
This rearranges the softkeys from the stock ((menu) recents home back) configuration to the AOSP (back home recents (menu)) configuration. It also changes the images to match AOSP. Because it a ZipThemer theme it can be applied to a themed ROM without messing up the theme. IE: you can flash Beans + a Wasabi theme then this without messing up the Wasabi theming.
In addition to rearranging the softkeys you can also change the softkey style simply replace the images in the zip with the ones you want to use. Below is a zip containing the stock style softkeys. Follow the same process outlined below. Flash the MOD for your ROM first then the stock keys after.
Procedures:
1. Add the following to your build.prop in /system/ Do not reboot yet.
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
2. Download ZipThemer from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDEsImtlbGxpbndvb2QuemlwdGhlbWVyIl0.
3. Download the zip that corresponds with the ROM you are running and the UpdateEdify.zip. See attached files below.
4. Open ZipThemer app, hit the settings button and select Update Edify. Then browse to the UpdateEdify.zip you downloaded in part 2. Then select configure. Then hit the back button.
5. Press [+Theme] button and add the ROM specific zip. Ex. beans12softkeys.zip
6. Click [Build it!] button, the app will ask you whether to make an undo zip, I recommended yes or always.
7. The app will patch your SystemUI.apk and pack into an update .zip.
8. When done, reboot to Recovery, install the *-update.zip from the root of your sdcard. Ex. Eclipse1.2Softkeys-update.zip
9. Reboot and enjoy!
10. If you want to go back to the way it was just boot into recovery and flash the undo zip (because you selected that option right?).
NOTE: If it doesnt take you need to go back to step 4 and select a different zip.
Thanks to camblue for letting me hijack is softkey mod thread. Also a thanks goes out to Detonation from Rootzwiki for his writeup about how to add keys and rearrange them.

Looks really nice man! Nice to see you here too. Awhile back you and I exchanged words over on the other dev site about switching up the soft key colors. Also, was this the original thread (that I quoted) you were referencing about?
As it stands, nice thread dude.

No the thread that camblue started was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2110134
The one about rearranging the keys was in the GNex forum on rootz. I should look for that now...

How do I theme my phone to look like that? Just push the systemui.apk from one of those ROMs?

Like the screenshot? No, don't push another ROMs sysui. That would be bad. I believe that the status bar icons (other than the battery) are located in the lidroid-res.apk (/system/framework/). You would have to transfer them to your ROMs lidroid app. Why not use Eclipse? The theming is already done for you. Another plus is it has the aosp dialer and contacts app that scale with the presence of the softkeys. Also native tethering is enabled.

i pushed the lidroid apk and it just changed the lidroid appearance...the 4G/wifi/time stayed the same. Any other ideas on what to push?
I might try eclipse as it looks pretty cool, but i wanted to stick with cleanrom because i heard it has the best battery life

hey man i flashed eclipse, but your method is not working for me because it says theres no update script. Can you send me a zip of a modified systemui like you did for cleanrom? if not ill have to go back to cleanrom which is a shame because i like this rom so far

Did you follow the instructions in the OP? You need to update edify in the ZipThemer app.

Hey I just flashed this mod however the stock nav keys you used are low quality. I can see pixelation in them, especially on the roof of the home. They aren't nearly as sharp as on my gnex. Is there anyway you could redo this with higher quality images? Thank you!

Yup it worked great on cr6. Could you make one too if you ever have time that uses the stock Samsung icons but has back and recent apps flipped and removes that blue/grey line At the top of the nav bar? I kinda like the darker grey of the Samsung icons but not sure if I can stand that blue/grey line Samsung added to the top of the nav bar. All I know is I definitely prefer back on the left and recent apps on the rightPlus not having to push the physical home button is really nice!
If it will help, I can upload the nav icons from my gnex

The images I used were from my gnex. ill have to see what image enhancing I can do tomorrow. I did however upload the sock keys. Check the attachments. Follow the same steps as before. Flash over the other file. It simply puts the images in the apk without any other modifications. In fact all that ZipThemer does is open up the apk like a zip file and replace the tw_navi_bar.xml that I modified into the app. Id look into higher res images tonight but I have work early in the morning.

Just to clarify what I wrote above, when you complete step 4 from the OP you are adding the update script from whatever zip you select. ROMS or themes that use aroma seem to have a different META-INF that makes them incompatible with this MOD. If you are going to use Eclipse I also recommend the Circuitry theme ported by o0Blackness0o. The themes zip works perfectly for step 4 too.

Oh ok well tha's weird bc I thought the gnex had the same resolution so I don't know why it looks so much different.I just extracted the systemUI.apk on my S3 and was surprised to see in the res folder, in several of the drawable folders were the stock ics/jb nav icons.
Maybe they are higher resolution?

I just flashed the stock keys one on top of the clean rom one like you said and ended up with recent apps on the left and back on the right. Uninstalled both and then just installed the stock keys file and got the same thing. Can you flip the recent apps and back too And it will be perfect. Thanks so much!

That is strange. It worked for me. Try doing it again. First the cleanrom specific one then the stock images one. The stock zip shouldn't change the order.

Make your own theme with uot kitchen

ALL CREDIT FOR UOT KITCHEN GOES TO MENDOZINAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted to start this thread because i notice in one thread it says that UOT kitchen will not work with twframework.res file, and in all of the themes threads i repeatedly see people asking "if i flash this can i still keep my gingerbread theme battery" or "will this theme work when flashing over this theme" ect....... I think u get the point. Everyone likes bits and pieces of all the themes but feels like they can't "have their cake and eat it too" Well with UOT Kitchen u can have your own personalized setup unlike anyone else and unique to your device. I am no dev and do not claim to know everything but i will list some instructions to the way i have used UOT Kitchen to make my phone one bad mofo!!!! Now i have a nandroid backup via CWM of several different themes of my KD1 deodexed from whitehawkx.
IF U FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF U MESS UP UR PHONE!!
EVERYTHING THAT FOLLOWS HAS WORKED FOR ME!!!
U must follow this procedure to cook your framework-res.apk file and then do all the same stuff that you did to your status bar on your framework-res.apk to your status bar in twframework-res.apk file because our phone uses these in conjunction and if you only cook framework-res.apk then all of the changes wont stick! If u know how to open these files and see whats exactly in them then u will know exactly what to change in both twframework.res and framework.res but i'll leave it general for the noobs. Before u upload the twframework.res file to UOT u must rename it to framework.res and then when it is done and u extract the framework.res to push u must rename it back to twframework.res Write down your colors from the first file if u set any so u can apply them to the next file when u cook that one. It doesnt matter which one u do first just make sure u select the same changes for both files and don't forget which zip is which!
Now u need to use root explorer or the like and make a copy of your twframework-res.apk file and framework-res.apk file so u can cook both of them. They are both located in system/framework.
Place the copies of these two files on the desktop of your pc cause u will need to upload them to the kitchen when u are ready to cook.
EDIT: Try leaving twframework-res as twframework-res when uploading to the kitchen to cook. If u error then try changing the name to framework-res and then uploading to the kitchen and cook. Either way when it is done rename back to twframework-res.
1) Go to search engine and search UOT and go to the website for UOT Kitchen
2) Click on kitchen then battery then click the box that says use this mod. U can pick a predone batt. or select custom battery and start selecting and customizing the way u want your battery to look and u can customize what colors u want too!!!!!!!!!
3) Click on icons next and click use this mod again. I have not had any luck changing my emoticons so let me know if anyone has success.
4) Click on status bar and click use this mod. This is where u can really make things look sick. Also remember to the top right there is a button to click to see a preview of your work. ALSO it says that the transparent status bar is only for gingerbread but it has worked for me!!
I have not tried the category GLOWING because im almost possitive it wont work.I also did not use the window animations because launcher pro has those settings in it.
CORRECTION: The window animations do work!!!EDIT: THE GLOWING OPTION DOES WORK!
5) Next click on font pack and click use this mod. Select the font u want for your phone and remember this will change every # and letter that your phone displays to the font that u select.
THE BOOTANIMATIONS CAN ONLY BE CHANGED IF U HAVE A KERNEL THAT SUPPORTS THIS!
6) Now click on file upload and do not change any of the settings on it!!! This is very important! Just click on system files and select the framework.res file and the kitchen will auto upload it. Follow the status bar and wait till the upload finishes.
7)Now click on summary and if all your mods are highlighted green then you are done and ready to cook! Click the button at the bottom that says submit work to kitchen. U will then see your pickup number for your file and u should write this down. Next click the link to go to pickup and once there u just wait for your file to show up and then click on download. The file will come as a CWM flashable file and u can use CWM to flash this file but clean catche first!
HERE COMES THE TRICKY PART SO PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!! U can only flash the zip that contains your cookup of the framework-res file!!!!!!!!! Then reboot and u will see that only some of the changes have taken affect. Now take the zip file that contains the twframework-res file cookup and extract its contents to your desktop. Click on the res file and u will see that the twframework-res file was changed to framework-res so u WILL need to rename it as twframework-res and then place it on the root of your SD card. Use root explorer or the like again and move the file to system/framework and overwrite the existing twframework-res. Now reboot and u are golden!!!!
EDIT: u must rename twframework-res to framework-res and then when its done cooking u extract the .res from the zip and rename it back to twframework-res before pushing it to system/framework.
DO NOT MIX UP THE TWO ZIPS THAT U CREATE!!! U MUST KNOW WHICH ONE CONTAINS THE FRAMEWORK-RES FILE AND WHICH ONE CONTAINS THE FILE THAT WAS ORIGINALLY TWFRAMEWORK-RES AND NEED TO BE RENAMED AS SUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REMEBER FLASH THE ZIP CONTAINING THE FRAMEWORK-RES WITH CWM AND EXTRACT WHAT WAS THE ORIGINAL TWFRAMEWORK-RES FILE OUT OF ITS ZIP AND RENAME IT BACK TO TWFRAMEWORK-RES AND PUSH IT TO THE PHONE MANUALLY!!!!!!
I hope this helps some of u that want to create a theme of your own or just change certain parts of the theme that u already have. If u don't want to change something in your theme u have or on your stock then just dont use that mod in the UOT Kitchen and it will be unaffected!
Much love to all my Android Galaxy S 4g brothers and sisters!!!!!!!!!! I can smell those custom roms coming right around the corner now that drhonk has a phone to rock on. Thanks everyone that has helped make our device what it is and let me know how this works for yall. Im going to figure out how to take screen shots and post my setup cause im excited to show it off!!!!!!!!! PEACE!!!
Well guys i think i finally figured this screenshot stuff out so here u go!!!!!!!!!!!!!Dope huh??!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are different than LPP's transitions. Launcher Pro gives you nifty transitions between launcher screens. The window animations give you cool effects when you open and close windows. Here's a YouTube of the Fold effect, for instance.
Thanks for the effort to put proverbial pen to ink! UOT Kitchen is a great bridge to customizing our SGS 4Gs while we patiently wait for custom ROM goodness.
I love cooking up my own themes, thanks for this post fatherof4. Very detailed and your screens are off the hook. Just so I understand this a little better, I have to upload both files framework-res and twframework-res under the same option which is upload framework-res.apk under system files?
ok man this isn't working for me when I upload twframework-res.apk to the kitchen. I don't need to delete the tw??? I keep getting erros like with battery mod, it says not correct mod. With the framework-res.apk it works fine, I've cooked battery mods and windows animations just fine, but twframework is giving me issues. Any ideas what could be??
You did explained whatever you do to framework-res.apk, cook up the same to twframework-res.apk. correct?? thanks for your help
I am very sorry for not updating sooner! I have found that sometimes it works with twframework.res and some times i get the error. The fix for this is to rename your twframework.res file to framework.res and then when it is done and u extract it from the zip u must rename it back to twframework.res before u paste it over the original twframework.res. Hope this helps u all and again srry for not ivestigating further until now. Remember dont get the zips confused! Remember which one was twframework.res so u rename and paste the right one!

Also I am really curious to know as to how you went about in changing the colors of the controls at the top when you pull down the status bar down you get like the controls at the top and the notifications right underneath. Not sure if you know what I'm talking about, but right now they are green for me but I would like to change them to blue bars like you have it on yours. Thanks for your help.

The way i got those green colors to be blue was to extract it out of the more honeycomb theme by blckphenix and i swapped the files manually. I believe if u use the framework.res from this theme and cook that then u will also have it because UOT cannot change this so i assume it will stay the same. Just make sure u download the right one for the rom you're on or ur gonna have some problems once u push the wrong file back to system/framework.lol Hope this helps u get your setup how u want it!!!

You don't have to rename it to cook it you just have to rename it back to twframework after you unzip it.

I all depends on the size of the icons. You can use xhdpi icons, but they'll be to big for the status bar. I haven't found away to adjust the icons in the xml's as of yet, still looking. That bugs me as well especially the "3G". All in all unless you have ICS the icons will continue to look this way.

No, i dont think so. You have to consider that each icon has a designated space mandated in the XML's or smali about 38x38 or so. You want to find that line and change it to read something like 38x20 or what ever you want. It would read something like <FrameLayout android:layout_width="20.0dip" android:layout_height="25.0dip". I've tried changing "status_bar_icon.xml" to no avail.

I've tried changing "status_bar_icon.xml" to no avail.

Because 2.3.4 is broken. You can't connect to Google's server.

Hmm, I can't seem to get this to work right. I'm using the R800x locked bootloader, 2.3.3. I have the file on my sdcard and renamed it update.zip. Through the CWM recovery, I flash the zip file. It runs and finishes rather quickly. When it reboots, I get stuck in a bootloop. Am I missing something or doing something wrong that might be causing this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

You don't need to rename it , just choose "install zip from sdcard" option. Sorry, I dont know why your bootlooping
EDIT: i just downloaded the theme from the link and it installed just fine.
Are you downloading from your phone?
If so please download from a pc, and try again

Downloaded the file from my PC and transferred it to my sd card. Installed from the zip file in CWM recovery. Appeared to install. Restarted my phone. Bootloop again. Beyond me why it's not working. Could there be anything that would interfere with the theme? Apps or anything of the like?
Thanks for the help

None that I'm aware of , all the apk's in the theme are stock, just modified. I pull them from the 2.3.3 system dump. I have to admit that this is a bit baffling to me.

Yours looked like it may have corrected the minor visual problems this one had. I'll give a shot at re-installing this one and putting yours on top to see if that works. I'll let you know.
EDIT: Ok, the old ICS theme still works.
Out of curiosity, I checked out what the difference between the two themes were. What are the apks in the app folder within your zip?
EDIT2: Worked! You were right. I had to install that old ICS theme down first before yours worked. Wonder why that would work...oh well.

One thing I've noticed is that using my music players (built-in music and playerpro), the text of the song title in the notification bar is black, so it's unreadable.
But so far, awesome job, man.

1% Battery, Soft Key, Toggle, & Lock Mods[ZipThemer] HowTo

Most of these directions will work for both ICS and JB, Batt mod and Toggles need to be updated for JB
These mods are for the stock Photon Q. How to install and make your own below.
Special Thanks goes to Rangerbry, without his work here, none of us would be enjoying toggles or 1% battery.
Thanks to mrvirginia for his collection of battery mods here, as well as all the authors of these mods listed there.
As always, I am not responsible if your phone blows up. Always nandroid before changing anything in the system.
To install:
These will work on Odexed & Deodexed frameworks.
Download Zipthemer from the market
Open ZipThemer, open menu and select Update Edify
Select a flashable system zip using the browse option (Rangerbry's deodexed works fine, he also has an odexed zip posted there if you are odexed)and select.Find his work on JB Here
On the main screen press +Theme, point it to where you downloaded the modded zip file from this thread.
You should be back at the main screen, you can select other zips if you would like to flash multiple skins in one flash. When you are done press: Build It. ZipThemer will ask if you would like to create a zip to return to stock, that is up to you.
After it is done boot into recovery and flash the file, unless you changed the settings, it should be on the root of your internal sd.
Reboot your phone and you should have a new shiny skin.
Make your own:
Traditionally, you would adb pull your SystemUI.apk or framework-res.apk from system/app or system/framework; decompile, make your changes, recompile, and push back to your phone. I still do this, well I keep a copy of one on hand that I have already recompiled and use 7zip to move the files around.
Zipthemer does this for you, it pulls the apk, pushes the changes to it and packages it in a nice zip file for your flashing pleasure. The real advantage here being, it is easy to share, anyone can use it because it depends on the apk located on each specific device. Also, it can be used to change any number of files across multiple apk's, in a single file. Or several smaller mods can be combined into a single flashable zip..
The mod file works in two parts, first the control file holds the description and general location of the files to be edited:
HTML:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<themename>MophoQ 1% batt CM9 Circle Mod</themename>
<themeversion>1.0</themeversion>
<author>fallnSaint</author>
<phone>Photon Q</phone>
<rom>Stock</rom>
<themedescription>CM9 Circle Mod 1% Batt Icon For Photon Q</themedescription>
<item>SystemUI.apk</item>
<path>/system/app/</path>
<description>changes the Stock 1% Battery Icon to A CM9 Circle Battery Icon</description>
The important bits here are item and path. Item tells the program what to edit and path tells it where to find it. I use Notepad++ to edit these, it is a nice, easy to use, and free program. When you are done editing, rename the control file to what you are going to name the mod.
The second part of the zip file is a folder named after the item, since most of these mods work in SystemUI/res/drawable-hdpi/ the folder would have to be set up in this manor as well. The modified content would be placed in a folder named drawable-hdpi, that folder would be placed inside a folder named res, which would be put in a folder named SystemUI. All the file and folder names have to be identical, down to punctuation and capitalization.
Once you have all this set-up, use 7zip or the like to create a zip using the control file first, named after the control file. Then add the SystemUI folder to the zip and you are done.
Feel free to use one of the existing mods here to play with it.

You shouldn't have to unzip anything unless you would like to manually add these to your SystemUI.apk, Just download the zip and follow the directions in the op with Zipthemer. Make sure you have updated edify in Zipthemer using one of Rangerbry's Odexed or Deodexed zips (depends on your framework).
Let me know if this is still an issue.

Fresh install may be the best, I doubt if trying to flash the unzipped files would have messed anything up, but you never know.
If you haven't wiped yet you could try clearing data on zipthemer, uninstall, delete zipthemer folder from sd, & clear cache. Then start fresh w updating edify...
Lemme know how it goes.

This is my second of, I hope, many themes for the GS3. This was tested and based on CleanROM 2.5 using TWRP. If you try it on any other ROM based on the G7 modems, let me know. If you do try it and it borks your phone, though, I'm not responsible. And in general, I'm not responsible for anything that you do to your device. There have been issues with SystemUI crashing with some themes on Scott's ROM, either due to the fact that it is odex or because of certain recoveries. No one is responsible for what you do to your device besides yourself. Make sure you have a nandroid. The app icons that you see are from a paid Apex theme in the PlayStore. Just search for Black Go Apex Theme Pro. I'll be making some of my own eventually.
Please do not use any of my work included in this theme without permission first. This stuff takes time, and I would be happy to help you if you just ask first.
Works On:
CleanROM 2.5
What's Themed:
SystemUI.apk
framework-res.apk
SecSettings.apk
lidroid-res.apk
To Be Done:
Tons of more images that I want to change in framework and systemui as this is just the first release. Anything that is not red and white will be that way soon enough.
Various other apks
Other roms
All I ask is for thanks if you like my themes. If you want to donate to me, save your money and donate to Scott, thisiskindacrap, who MIKE D, or rcw95 on my behalf. That's where I'd use the money anyway for all of the help they give me.
Changelog:
10.08.Rebuilt
Rebuilt by thisiskindacrap to fix crashing (THANK YOU SO MUCH!)
10.03
Initial Release
Thanks
-Huge thanks to Scrosler for the awesome ROM
-Thanks to thisiskindacrap for his mods that Scott uses that I have changed around for my themes.
-Thanks to who MIKE D for all of his theme help
-Thanks to rcw95 for helping me find some images and for helping figure out the crash issues.
Installation Instructions
-Download (if on mobile, make sure you choose "Request Desktop Site")
-Place on ext SD
-Reboot to recovery
-Perform nandroid (not required, but a good idea)
-Wipe cache and dalvik cache
-Flash zip
-Reboot
-Enjoy
All downloads and additional info will be kept in post 2. Wallpapers in post 3.
Again, I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. I will, though, try to help as much as possible to make it work for you.

Still geting system ui crash.
If someone can test a theory for me about the systemui crashes, send me a pm. Anyone who has had issues with this theme and my black pearl. Pm me your set up including recovery type and if you've ever used another recovery and if you flashed the ROM clean or dirty. I just need one tester and will post here when I have one. When I made that one zip a few days ago on the black Pearl theme I took all your mods to the systemui put them in the stock one recompiled it and made it flash the odex back and that guy said it worked fine with just the systemui. But it crashes with the rest of the theme installed. I wonder if something else is causing the crash other than the actual systemui from the theme. Hope this makes sense it kinda does to me lol. But it doesn't make sense that it works fine for some people then not for others. The people who have the crashing should check and make sure the odex files are getting deleted with root explorer or a similar app. Maybe the script isn't erasing them for some people. Just a thought.

That's what confuses me the most. And the systemui was the only thing that I had to recompile. The others are just image switches. No clue though, but I was going to have them flash the theme without the systemui to see if it still crashed. If it didn't then I could go from there.

Yeah that's the same as my theme just recompiled the systemui all others are image swaps. Are u putting the original android manifest back in after recompiling? If not that might be it. I recompile then use 7zip to put that file back from the original systemui.

Actually, I'm not even using a recompiled systemui. I just pull the resources and layout folder from the recompiled one and put it into the original to keep the sig. Maybe I'll try your way of using my recompiled version and pulling in the manifest. Probably not the issue, but it's worth a shot. I'll see if I can get someone to test that later to see if it works.

All APKs are modified and tested and working
but BACKUP your system (NAND) or original apk before replacing, it is your choice and your responsibility
Files are from I9505, do not know if it works on I9500 or not, give it a try, or upload your SystemUI.apk 3G or 4G , JB or Kitkat and I will theme it 4 u 4 free:angel:
some replies asking if files working with xxx or yyy , when I ask them to try or upload their files 2 theme it 4 them, I get no reply!!
If any one can do it as flashable zip file, his help will be highly appreciated
I don't have the phone, so all the credits go to alkhamisi99 from another Arabian forum (since no one helped here!! [REQ]S4 Kitkat or JB SystemUI.apk required), who gave me the KK apk and tested it and shared the screen shots from his mobile
all the credits go to filipelima27, who gave me the JB apk and tested it and shared the screen shots from his mobile
I must thank Pille_S5830 for guiding me how to do Themeing
I must thank _alex74_ for providing The flashable zip file and guiding me how to do flashable theme
Credits to Pille_S5830 and BoBCatRoM for using some of their icons
