Unable rebuild Galaxy Note2 LTE (N7105) - Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S III Developer Discussion

Hi Experts,
I have tried to rebuild the kernel for Galaxy Note2 LTE (N7105) from the source downloaded from opensource.samsung.com.
The kernel can be compiled without error and I use ramdisk from latest firmware to create boot.img. After that, boot.img can be flashed without problem to the phone and it can reboot correctly.
But, the two button (MENU and BACK) does not work and exFAT module can't be loaded.
I have no problem doing this for Galaxy S3 (i9300) and Galaxy Nexus (i9205) but only this time I always fail.
Can anybody point what are the things I missed out?
Thanks in advance.

IIRC, the sources for touchkeys are missing for some reason in this release. There should be a thread about this, at the beginning of this development section.
What's your error with exfat module?

Thanks for pointing that...
I do comparison between 7100 source and 7105 source and I found 1 folder missing under /driver/input/keyboard/cypress...
The error message I got while trying to load the module is Exec Format Error as attached.
Put this command "if(!strncmp("exfat_", mod->name, 6)) return 1;" under kernel/module.c (original code by AndreiLux) seems doesn't help..
Sorry for this noob questions...
EDIT: Found something interesting reading about FTRACE... going to test it tonight...

No success
After playing around with N7100, I manage to make the capacitive button works again.. but no succes to load exfat module
Any idea highly appreciated...
Thanks..

There also is a thread here already: trying to load proprietary kernel modules, like exfat.
There are already some information.
Also, what did you change at the kernel already?

Yes. I read that thread yesterday. I also got the same message as mentioned in that thread.
I believe something is wrong with the source as I tried to rebuild the kernel without any change to the code. This is normally what I did, I mean, I will try to rebuild the kernel without modification to see if it is working. If yes then I start to modify the kernel based on cherry pick enhancement and recompile it.
So when I tried to rebuild this N7105 kernel, I found that the kernel is not working properly.
Anyway, thank you very much for your respons. Really appreciate that.

Had no problem rooting mine after update. I am getting a message in titanium about non journal su access, it offers to fix this but fails. Any ideas on how to solve? Touch screen sensitivity is perfect now.

Are you sure you executed the batch file in the right folder (ICS_rooting)? Because adb.exe (and the required dlls) are included in the download.

Edit : ok, done. I used "execute with admin rights" and runit-win not works.
Executing "normally" works. Thanks

Yes i'm germanischen.
This Version was preinstalled on my tablet when i got it.
When i update now, i would use the offered update when i check for updates on my tablet.
Is this the right way?

Well, I don't know whether Germanic is available as a language , but yeah that's the easiest and safest way to proceed.
My language on the tab is german.
So i have no problems and nearly all works fine.
But the touch sensity coult be better, so I hope that the update will bring better sensity than now.

As I got my hands with a full listing of Acer firmwares, I think those datas could interest some members here.

Looking for a couple of fixes

Hello all,
I recently compiled my own version of CM10.1 from source on my Ubuntu dev machine. I absolutely love it, and the fact that I am running my own ROM!! I only have a couple issues, and I've searched high and low, but can't seem to find any fixes (that work anyway). I would greatly appreciate it, if someone could point me in the right direction.
-Bugs-
1. Camera fc's when changing ANY setting, requiring a reboot.
2. GPS is ALL KINDS of jacked up..
3. Bluetooth doesn't work, or if I try to use speech to text I have to wipe/install in order to even be able to type a message.
Thanks in advance for any assistance. It will be GREATLY appreciated! I'm also sure that I could find my way to that infamous "Thanks" button. I could maybe buy you a beer, even.
Is it the unmodified cm source you are compiling? Did you extract the prebuilts?

I'm unsure of exactly what you mean by "unmodified."
Yeah, I extracted the prebuilts, and pulled the device specific code/drivers from the phone.
Vielen dank for the timely response!!

This could be your problem. The prebuilts we use are specific blobs from the different builds and many probably are not longer valid when pulled directly from the phone
Instead of using prebuilds, use the "TheMuppets" repo (https://github.com/TheMuppets/proprietary_vendor_samsung)
EDIT: Just realized I was looking in the wrong forum. These blobs should work with the developer edition but i'm not 100% sure.

Ahh.. Okay, sorry.
No, I didn't change anything at all. I just wanted to get a good, clean build first, then I will start customizing more and more. Thanks again. :good:

I really appreciate you looking into this for me. I read in a few forums about TheMuppets repo, but I haven't gotten around to trying it out. I am in the process of moving at the moment, but when I get my machine set back up I will give it a shot. Thanks.
Maybe really just try the muppets.
How did you get your device specific repos? Did you clone them manually, or did roomservice grep them for you?

Immediately after running "./get-prebuilts," I cd'd to the root of /android/system, and ran "source build/envsetup.sh" to first get all of my cmds working, then I ran the breakfast cmd.
After the device specific code downloaded, I then ran the "extract-files" script with my phone connected via usb to pull the proprietary blobs.
I REALLY hope to get my Ubuntu machine up soon... I will then try TheMuppets repo. Thanks again.

[Q] Strange problem installing certain roms

Hi all
This is my first post here, although i've been using your resources for some time now - and they've been very helpfull
I can't however, seem to find an answer to this issue i've ran into.
First of all, let me say i'm fairly new to rooting/custom roms - i understand the basic concept and i've been using my Galaxy Tab 2 7" as a test device to experiment with.
So Heres my hardware details from what i understand:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.0 7"
GT-P3110
I'm using: CWM v6.0.4.5
I've managed to install the following rom with no issues whatsoever:
aokp_P3110_jb-mr2_unofficial_2013-11-04.zip
now i'm trying to find a more up-to-date version (i would prefer something based on 4.4 or later as i miss the ability to install apps onto the SDcard rather than the internal memory (its my understanding they removed this feature, then re-added it in 4.4?)
so next i tried:
aokp_p3110_kitkat_unofficial_2013-12-24.zip
which during installation gives me the following error:
This package is for "p3110,GT-P3110,p3113,GT-P3113,expressowifi,espressowifixx" devices; this is a "espressorf"
Click to collapse
Which to me doesn't make sense as i'm fairly sure my device is P3113 EspressoWifi.
Am I missing something here?
A little nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I think you need to check for shure what you have. You started by saying you have a P3110 and ended with P3113.
Look for the serial number on the back of the tab and compare with the serial number in About device in settings. If they are the same on the back of the tab where the serial number is is also the model number in small letters and numbers.
The other is to boot into download mode in the second screen it tells you the model. but if you have flashed the wrong firmware it might have changed it. hope this gives you a start.

Thanks for the reply
3113 was a typo, its definetly 3110 (stamped on the back of the device)
To confirm i booted to download mode:
Code:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-P3110
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD:L YES (1 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
sorry about that, my mistake
So all the rom's ive attempted to install have been for the P3110
It just seems strange that some of them are telling me my device isn't a P3110 yet other roms for P3110 work perfectly?
I got same problems too, about 2 days ago, but in p3100 device
All you have to do is switch back your recovery to the earlier version, now im using GT-P3100_CWM_6.0.4.6_Swipe-Edition.zip. Maybe you can try the p3110 6.0.4.6 ver.
The one that cause error like you said when installing rom in my device is "GT-P3100_CWM_6.0.4.7_Swipe-Edition.zip". I'm sure i download the right files because i never renamed the files and it says so.
Maybe @Android-Andi should see this..
=====
looking at the errors you gave, maybe android-andi has swapped the name accidentally. i got an error "this is a expressowifi"
thanks for reporting guys, i'll take a look on it, maybe i renamed my files wrong and switched P3110 and P3100
i'll report back later
Edit:
I build new recoverys and upload them later

First thing i noticed obviously is the swipe feature, while i can see it being nice to have, i wont be using it since i've become used to navigating using my volume up/down- still a nice idea though.
Do you have a changelog i can take a look at?

Could you provide a link? I do tend to struggle to find all the latest roms as they seem to be scattered all over the web (or is this just me? lol) I usuaully just do a googlesearch for [device model] [Android version] [rom title] which more often than not takes me to a blog post where i download the file directly (probably why i ended up with an unofficial build)
The AOKP Site says there is no release for my device (p3110) hence my google search for unnoficial builds. - Is there a better way to find what i'm looking for ?
Thanks again

Why are these link broken? I've been struggling for 3 days to get the right root and recovery for my S.G. Tab 2 GT-P3113, but everyone who posts links, posts broken links...

YES THIS!!! So many times over... EVERY download link is dead EVERY SINGLE ONE. I found a version of cwm but this gives the "espressorf" error no matter what rom I try, yet the device is a p3110
This is driving me nuts CM 10 works fine, cm 11 along with other kit kat roms fails with this error.

F2FS and Encryption

I've been trying to figure out if f2fs encryption is actually supported in android 5.0+ according to this website:
https://source.android.com/security/encryption/
Every time I try to encrypt my phone and the data partition is f2fs, the encryption process fails and android cries about me removing all data and starting over. Is there some sort of condition that I'm missing for encryption to work or is there a method outside the normal procedures that needs to be done in order to achieve success? I have no issues using adb to issue the commands if need be and I'm familiar with basic linux commands to get the job done (I am currently using Arch Linux as I'm typing this up). Is this something that the kernel has to support or is it on an OS level? According to Google, it should already be supported and I believe that document implies that the Qualcomm chip should also be used for speed with the file system.
Thanks for any help that can be given on this quest of frustration.
I'm actually using f2fs and encryption (official COS12.1.1 fastboot factory image's data and cache are f2fs formatted) without any problems... no idea what's wrong on your side :/

I doubt it would work with erorcun's 3.10 kernel because he never got encryption working even with ext4 and ended up abandoning everything and getting another phone. Is this kernel developer actively improving the 3.10 kernel for our device? Because there just seems to be a lot of sadly abandoned/out of date projects for the opo these days

My fault, but fixed i wasn't fast enough since i had issues syncing sources... you can replace the boot.img before flashing inside the 27 zip with previous one i think to fix it.
