Asus tf300 mode switching - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone found an easy way to switch between performance and balanced mode on 4.2 other than opening the settings to change it? The easy switch on the 4.1 launcher was nice, but the 4.2 launcher is much better, just lacking that unless I'm just blind.

microsoft office (specifically word) app

I am looking to use the infinity for a bit of writing on the go. What is the best app for this? Looking for something as close to MS word as possible, preferably with grammar and spelling check (as in underlining misspelled words) this is useful since getting used to this keyboard will take a few days. Also something that can keep up with my typing speed.
Thanks in advance.

Quickoffice pro/hd is pretty good since it does have spell check and a lot of other features. If you want office 2010 and are willing to go through a little hassle when saving files onlive desktop is a virtual desktop

thanks for the suggestion, but i read quickoffice pro is laggy, is onlive desktop fast enough to keep up?

Its only laggy if youre not on balanced mode. Try out the free version. As for on live, i only sort of tested it not really used it as a permanent solution. If you can live without spell check try the free version of docs to go

QuickOffice HD is pretty good, but I like Kingsoft Office a lot, and it's free!

I couldn't find a free trial in the market. Docs to go is 15 dollars if I want to edit, and i don't want to commit to spending money till I make sure it meets my needs.

I also tried Writer. Which is good in terms of speed, and I am fine with sacrificing the rest, but it has a 9000 character limit. Which is lame... Basically i need something that keeps up with my speed of typing -I am willing to sacrifice the spell/grammar check- has no limit to how long something can be, and can read/write to .doc/.docx So I don't have to lug a laptop around with me.

IMVHO KingSoft and OfficeSuite Pro are the best and the closest to M$ Office.
I use "documents to go", it can sync docs with Google drive too.

Does anyone know a app for docx where it's possible to rotate the insert pictures?
Quickoffice HD is a best office suite IMO. There is a reason Google bought them. If you don't need a bunch of features there is always the Google drive app.
You can do it in Kingsoft Office, which - unlike, IMO far worse, QuickOffice - comes for free.
We're supposed to get real MS Office this fall (despite denials ), so you might hold off making a purchase till then, and just live with polaris or another free option.

I haven't experienced lag in quickoffice hd since the newest firmware came out, FWIW. Even on the slowest infinity profile.
So if you want a MS Word-ish app, with spell-check (inherent to the Infinity btw), why not Google Drive?
Works online and offline, does spell check, has lots of other features, is free and I haven't experienced lag.
BTW, performance mode makes your tablet laggy-er. Performance simply means everything looks sharper, it doesn't mean the tablet works better. Balanced mode may yield better performance results at the cost of image sharpness and detail.

So I downloaded google drive, and here is what I have noticed so far.
1. it cannot read/write docx (keeps asking me to open it in another program)
2. I know the spellcheck is inherent to infinity but it does not appear to work in google drive, or at least I couldn't find a way to do it.
Thanks for the tip on the performance an lag issue.

hmmm sorry about the docx incompatibility. i was not aware of that.
as for the spell-checker, make sure it's enabled in your android settings under "language and input"
it's underlining incorrect words as i type this here, and it also works on other apps

Your tf300t seem laggy or buggy?

I bet it do, download nova launcher. You'll see what I'm talking about.
I'm sure most of you know how good it is, but it runs nicely on stock jb.

I believe thats because Nova Launcher isnt optimized for tablets. But correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah from my experience with it, it was more so for phones. Which is why I prefer Apex over Nova for my TF300.

Having no issues, the only thing different is a less buggy and smoother user experience.

not really had any problems with nova? what sort of problems you having?
My stock TF300 was laggy after the JB update, but once I installed Nova things really seemed to smooth out. I still have some issues when docked, but in pure tablet mode, it is very responsive now.
i have nova launcher and it runs good. very smooth and stable.
I like it more than apex and ofc stock launcher.
Try Holo Launcher HD. Amazing.
I'm running Nova Launcher over my new TF3000T with 4.1.1 and run smooooooooooooth.

ADW Launcher EX on Infinity

Anyone else enjoying the new update? So far, flows so much better than apex and nova. Transitions are smoother more numerous and prettier than ever. So many more options to choose from, I had to share.

I was playing with the new ADW Launcher EX last night. It is very nice. However, I uninstalled and went back to stock. Because I don't like a pop-up menu appearing when I hold on a widget. I like the JB resize handles appearing. The extra step just turned me off.
I liked 3rd party launchers in the Pre-ICS days. But since ICS forward, not so much.
Absolutely love the new version of ADW EX - they did an excellent job with it. I really like the custom fonts for desktop icons too - looks so much better than the stock font for desktop icons.
Also love the dock reflections - adds a nice touch.
Really don't have anything bad to say about ADW EX - lots of options, great performance and doesn't seem to be a RAM hog either...
Highly recommended.

One issue that I am running into is that I am a not able to reassign the function of the home icon. I usually use the home button to open and close the dock bar. So far I have not been able to do this?

How did you re-assign that key with other launchers?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
I had a hubs layout with instant transitions (that is, no transition), and was a big fan. Setting the transition speed to 0 accomplishes that in the old adw ex, but not in the new one. I rolled back to the old thanks to titanium. Not sure if it's a bug, an oversight or intentional.
Not saying it's bad, just doesn't suit my preferences.
Maybe I should try this too. I used stock for a long time until tried Nova. Omg what a difference with speed! Nova is so much faster than stock.
But if ADW faster than Nova I think I could be 95% satisfied with the speed of this tablet. (browser still has many problems)
I had bought ADW maybe 2 years ago and then it had problem not having updates so I changed to others. Might give it a try now. Thanks for headsup!
Try ADWLquncher ex the november update gave it a new life : before it was far slower than apex (my previous launcher) and now it's far faster and smoother

Icon dock for stock?

I really like the minimalist look and feel of the stock Asus theme. Nova, Apex, etc have to many bells and whistles for my tastes. But, I really like the icon dock. Any way to add that feature to stock?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
Install CROMI with the new JB launcher. You'll get stock everything and that neat dock at the bottom following you around.

4.2.1 lockscreen customization?

I appreciate the new design and utility of being able to use some of the apps offered on the lockscreen from my own tablet, but whatever happened to the 4.1.1 slide screen where you can use the camera and go straight away to Google Now. It's not a big deal, but I do miss the convenience. Is there any way to do something about it?
Thanks.
