[Q] Color distortion and no touch capabilities - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive had the Asus TF101 for over 2 years now. Excellent tablet. Dropped off bed and went boom. Have no touch functionality and color distortion. Oddly enough when the battery ran down to 14% I got touch screen functionality back but color distortion still persists. Anyone know what cables inside the tablet control the touch screen? Ive done the reset a few times. Tablet is also rooted but doubt that will help with screen color problem. Unseated and reseated the video cables a few times. At first I had the black screen of death until I reseated the video cables. Then I had the screen work but color distortion and no touch capabilities. Once I let the battery drain down until the waring came on and beeped, then the touch screen started working again. Any help is appreciated and here a few pics of the problem. After reading a ton on this subject I tried draining the battery by restart after restart. I have no idea why that did eventually give me touch screen functionality back. This tablet has been dropped more times than I can count and it certainly does not owe me anything after 2 years of perfect service. Cant insert images but the screen is pixilated like a 640 x 480 resolution in 8 bit color and is halloween green if that helps.

cant insert images or links but the color is a greenish Halloween color and very pix elated like a 640 x 480 8 bit screen.

If you take a screenshot (VOL DOWN and POWER for 3 seconds, key above the 6 on the keyboard dock or hold recent apps key if you enabled it) and email the screenshot, does the screenshot look the same or normal?
If it looks the same, it is a sofware/driver issue. If not, it is a hardware issue.
My guess is that the video cable is loose and some pins don't have contact.
The video cable surrounds the battery and if dropped, the battery may dislodge the video cable (wide grey one on top of the big black battery):

It looks similar indeed. Oddly enough once I pulled it off the charger I lost touch screen functionality. Running clock work mod to reset. Do you know what cables control the touch screen?

narrow gh
factory reset and know Im back to square one. No touch screen functionality and stuck on welcome screen. Any ideas??

I am not sure which cable is the touch screen.
I would try disconnecting the battery cable, wait a minute or two and then reconnect.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I wound up chopping it up and selling off the parts on eBay. Thanks again for all the responses.

Got a Problem with the screen (Very Unhappy)

Hello all, i have myself an 02 XDA Exec, but during the light of a soft reset
the screen is now working with fault
it looks like there is some sort of high contrast or the in could be bleading on the inside, but the touch feature works, will display pictures
Notice how the screen has different shades, but also patches in the corners of the screen, as ive mentioned the touch sensetivity works fine but the screen looks to be a bit pixelated and and in a different sort of contrast (i am currently reading up on the dis-assembly of it so if its something internal please say something about it)
and no i havnt banged it, smashed it, tried beating it up etc, i honestly dont know whats happened to it.

this is my today screen after a hard reset, basic windows mobile default, look at the different tones of colouring, the sort of slashes across the screen and the shades in the corner of the screen, and im not sure why, although i dont think it really can be ink bleading as when the phone is turned off the screen is as it should be, just off.
Now i will try out the camera on both sides, from the phone and from my camera
Camera's Side
Notice how the screen is in a sort of negative/contrasted style, not one im enjoying thats for sure, but coming from the phone the results are different
Exec Camera
notice how the camera still processes the image properly
which leads me to believe something is wrong with the screen
maybe some part of the frame is being pressed against it or something like that
i will be monitoring this thread closely and please help
With Many Thanks
Exemike
Does it have this pink tint in reality too? (not only on the shots?)
If it does (and a hard reset doesn't help), then, one of the color transfer wires may be dead or have "only" developed a contact error (or, plainly, they have just been removed from their socket. This happened a lot with other models.)
That is, I'm pretty much sure it's a cheaply fixable problem. Try disassembling your casing and try to rearrange the wires.
pink/purple tint, but the screen apears in perfect shape
any guides on getting into the screen,
thanks very much.

there are several; see the "smashed my Universal screen" threads; some of them link in the official HTC disassembling guides

acer s200 touch syntetizer (the clear plastic over the lcd)

Hi i have to change the touch panel due to a big scratch, anyone here know if i have to disassembly all the phone?Or else someone with a service manual?
My phone was out in the rain for a bit so my digitizer is all messed up. Only thing I can do is touch the bottons on bottom. Not much function in the touchscreen besides that. Have ordered a new digitizer and will hopefully get it by the weekend or next week. Can report back how it goes with the disassembly or have you already done yours? Please give a report on how to do it if that's the case.
I m still waiting for mine from hong kong.look s like someone else had changed the syntetizer in the forum, but i had no reply to my question
Ok. I guess we'll have to wait and see who gets his first. Whoever does though it would be nice with a report on how it went.
Hi i ve received the touch panel, but i tried to disassembly the phone, but i can not get the cover to open.I unscrewed the 5 screws on the rear but the cover is as strong as before.Have you ever tried to disassembly our phone?
And the touchscreen i received it s not the new one but the old engineering example,i think it s the same but i want to try the respone so i can give the seller the positive or negative feedback. The panel differ from the classic one for the acer logo on top right, not at the bottom center,and...there is the trasparent hole near the headphone for the front camera as you can see from this old sample picture

And this is mine
I read in the screen replacement forum. There are two more screws at the left and right sides of battery house.
Hope that helps. The guy in hongkong that sent me the digitizer sent it by registered air mail first but sent another one by EMS so hopefully i'll have it this week.
Ok i ve found the way by myself,it s not so difficult,i ve seen the two screws after...You have only to pay attenction to not force too much the plastics when you try to open the cover and when you try to detach the touch panel. The best way is to use a guitar plectrum and start to open from the bottom right, for the touch you have to go carefully. Now i ask in the forum if they need a guide with high res photos, because i ve taked pictures with my nokia n95
Well I would be really interested in seeing the pictures. Please do share. How's the new touchscreen working out ?
You can see my guide in the general section, maybe will be sticked. The panel is working good, but it seems a little less sensitive than the official oem one.Maybe the engineering sample is a little different. In plus the light from the touch keys is not diffused good, and i have an hole for the front camera, wich is not present in retail s200.But if you go to the guide you can see pictures
I have now changed my digitizer and thanks to your guide it went pretty smooth. Was done in about 10-15 mins. I got the oem one but the buttons on the bottom is diffuse as you said yours was. maybe i can move the white from the old one to make it nices. Probably won't bother though. Don't really find a difference in response from before the change.

Uneven screens?

I want to get this phone, but I've been hearing of uneven screens on the net. People have been saying the bottom of their screens are popping up. has this happened to anyone?
and also, in this picture,

Is the fact that you can see the light from the bottom of the screen mean that the screen is uneven?

some people have this issue but im not sure if its as severe as in the image...
but mine seems to have a perfect screen
I think I'm having this issue.. where have you read about this?
I'm not sure about this problem, but I noticed that mostly users with Desire S from Asia have the screen popping issue. UK Desires seem to be fine.
From Asia here but no problem with the screen. I think it's random.
No screen mounting issues here on german Desire S.
On the picture it's a reflection on the metal edge.
Hi my first post on XDA but have been skulking about.
I'm in the UK and have had my DS 3 full days perfect no floors and set up with current OS and skinned.
Though day 4 bottom corners lifting by Home and Search keys and also have the smallest gap between unibody and screen near Volume rocker and touch keys, the gap is enough to see back light coming through in the dark/dusk.
Hope this helps i have a new replacement coming first thing tomorrow will report on that with any news.
Ok so brand new replacement handset and i still have these issues the bottom right corner is already showing that it's raised in comparison to the bottom left corner and there is still a visible gap on the left of the screen can see the charge port through this and light still shining through in the right light.
Looks like bad quality control from HTC will be contacting orange in a mo as i'm still in my cooling off period. I am really disappointed Android OS is great for the customisation but this handset seem's to have been rushed in the build quality.
Hope this helps.
I have a friend with this issue.Mine it's ok.
Greece.
Duplicate post sorry.

[Q] Graphic problems with p5100 10.1"

Hi,
I got this weird problem and im not sure is this a hardware problem or not. For example. when using menus with white background, the background goes partly blue. Sometimes the graphic error is only blue lines in some part of the white background.
but when checking one option in same menu the background turns normal or atleast there is some change in the background. So these errors reacts only when changing options. And theyre always in the same position when going the same menu.
Also when using camera. the view is messed up a bit. there is a clear line somewhere in the picture when going dark to bright. With my english its hard to explain especially when i dont have any idea what is causing this problem.
Below are two attachments that explains the problem much clearer than i can write:

And before you ask. Yes, it has dropped and i have replaced the glass. But i got it with broken glass so i dont know was it like this before it dropped and the previus owner couldnt tell either.
Any possible solutions?
Thank you in advance!
Sounds like a hardware issue, just for the heck of it I would open it up and check the ribbon cable to the digitizer/screen, it could be loose.
Pp.
Checked it. Same problem. Tried to change brightness level, hard reset, rooting etc with no luck.
Its just so weird that in some situations the screen looks totally normal. only these few situations cause errors in the screen.
Hmmm, there are dialer codes that are used on phones that run a series of tests to check screen performance and output, don't know if this can be done on a tablet, but I would research it.
The only other time I heard of this was on a phone that recovered from falling in a toilet, the phone was dismantled and cleaned and assembled and it worked fine for over a year, the only glitch was an occasional color spasm on the screen similar to what you discribe.
Pp.
Thanks for the tip! Need to look for those codes when i get back home. I removed the logic board and cleaned it with denat. alcohol. No visible damage at least! trying to assembly it back later today. I decided to order a new LCD flex cable. Its the cheapest part to change.
No luck with the codes i found. after cleaning still same graphical problems. Now i can only wait the new flex cable and hope it will fix those errors.
Anyways thanks for replys and suggestions. :good:

Broken GPS/Cracked LCD – (Blue LED)

In Vietnam they replaced my front/back glass and the metal frame. The phone looked like brand new, but my GPS wasn't working so I went back. They fixed it but when I got my phone back my front glass was sticking out a bit.

2 weeks after the GPS wasn't working again I tried flashing back to factory image, various different ROM's/GPS fixes without luck. The apps from Google play all didn't find any GPS signal.
After a few weeks the back glass was coming loose. I took it out and found out they had used superglue instead of adhesive so I had to scrape the paint from the frame and glass. I figured the GPS problem is a bad contact between the GPS and the frame. (like described here: LINK)
When I pulled out my front screen it cracked because it was also super glued to the frame. I bent the pins on the motherboard up a little and but it back in the frame. When I powered it on my GPS was fixed, but I had flickering lines over the screen. When I screwed it back the LED started pulsing blue and the phone is completely unresponsive.

I see the LCD's are expensive so do you guys think the problems would be solved by buying a new LCD and frame or does the light to dark blue pulsing mean something different?
Thanks in advance!
Hi just now i dropped my wife's s6 and now the screen is dead, (well, not totally dead cos periodically maybe every 12 seconds giving showing white screen only on the left hand side portion of the screen) and the notification led is giving off dark to light blue light. Other than that, the phone is completely unresponsive.
I tried the hard reset method and try going into download and recovery mode to no avail. I was thinking it maybe caused by the cracked screen. The phone has had a cracked before i dropped it and it was fine. When i dropped it, there is no new crack.
So did you replace the screen and it solved the problem? Thanks in advance.
