I want to apologize because i think you get this question a lot, but i experience problems trying to root my HTC Sensation. Also i was not able to include images because of "To prevent spam on the XDA forums, ALL new users prevented from posting outside links in their messages. After approximately 10 posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thank you for understanding!"
I turned **USB Debugging ON** and connected phone to PC. Not sure if **Fast boot** should be turned **ON** in **Settings > Power** section but it is. (i.stack.imgur.com/Xqxdh.jpg)
My device was recognized successfully (i.stack.imgur.com/6YPWU.png)
Also it was shown in adb list
PHP:
C:\sdk\platform-tools>adb.exe devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
HT15LVXXXXXX device
Now i took out my battery, inserted that back, pushed and hold Power button and Volume Down and voila, i am in HBOOT.
I pressed Power button once, choosing FASTBOOT (i.stack.imgur.com/DZ7gv.jpg)
My phone connected to Windows, but this time device was not recognized. (i.stack.imgur.com/lXOgd.png)
I tried to add drivers for that device manually, but it failed (i.stack.imgur.com/vNxTL.png)
I even tried to add %MyHTC%=HTCAND32.Dev, USB\UNKNOWN to androidusb.inf and then add driver manually, but device was not working anyway and fastboot devices command returned empty list.
I tried same operations on my Mac using fastboot-mac for that and i got same result as on Windows - device is not recognized in fastboot mode.
I tried drivers from latest HTC Sync, tried 3.0.0.007, tried to use [TOOL] HTC Sensation 4G All-In-One Toolkit V3.1 [1-23-2013] [Noob-Proof]
I was not using HTC's original data cable, and i red somewhere on xda that this might be an issue. I bought original HTC Micro USB Data Cable DC-M410 and Windows recognized my phone in fastboot mode with new cable, but device was not unable to start. I uninstalled device from windows.
When i plugged my device back into PC, i got same behaviour once again "Unknown device"
Any ideas? One thing i did not tried is same operations on Linux
Can i just check, do you have htc drivers installed.
If yes, try the process again, but this time without pressing the power button the second time ( battery out, then in, then volume down+power button). Or reboot to the bootloader using the fast boot order (adb reboot bootloader).

so check your htc drivers again as the above user said
and if you are using 3.0 usb ports try to use 2.0 usb ports

Tried both, same result.
I found one thing. When you have fresh installation of windows 7, with java, sdk and htc drivers installed, first connect from fastboot devices is recognized with "Device could not start (Code 10)" . Second and next connects as Unknown device.
I will try ubuntu right now

I am using 32bit Win7. Tried to scan folder for drivers, and tried to add them manually. I will try to install 64bit Win7 to test, but i think i need something else.
I almost gave up! I think something wrong with my device. Tried same operations on my girlfriends old laptop, with Windows XP installed and HTC 3.0.0.007 drivers. Used her data cable from HTC Desire, and same result.
Device is connected and found
adb reboot bootloader
UNKNOWN DEVICE with USB\UNKNOWN hardware id

See adb reboot bootloader
Command worked so you have working drivers
Also from your previous posts I can see that you can go to fastboot usb that also clarifies that drivers are working.. What else is holding you back now?
You can verify whether device is connected properly by these commands
adb devices (when booted normally and usb debugging enabled)
fastboot devices (from bootloader.. FASTBOOT USB)

But few posts above you said.. Pressing volume down button would take your device to FASTBOOT USB.. So once you went to that mode.. Tried fastboot devices?
Edit: just checked the dmesg output of ubuntu
Looks like the usb slot on your device is not working properly.. Those errors are generic usb driver connection problems

I'm also facing these issues. I am trying rumrunner to S-Off my sensation but always end up unknown device. Anyone else fixed these?
This Was my Fix:
Put this in a *.reg file (with your texteditor and rename the file to e.g. import.reg
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\usbflags\0BB40FF00100]
"SkipBOSDescriptorQuery"=hex:01,00,00,00
Then import that import.reg via regeditor (as admin) into your registry. Then reboot your computer.

nope
This was my solution.
I have the same problem as you but I'm on windows 10 with my htc one v.
Device would show up as unknown device.
Downloaded HTC drivers from here.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535581
I'm on Windows 10 64 bit, so I downloaded the Windows 7 64 bit drivers.
Computer recognized it as an android device and showed up as My HTC, but it still said something was wrong with the device.
Then I applied a registry file from here.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-s/general/guide-fix-fastboot-windows-8-1-t2858337/
Once I applied this, it solved the issue.
Hope this helps. I made an account just to share this.

I've got a rooted but not s=off HTC One XL which I'm trying to do s=off and get back on the latest version of CM. The problem I have is that I can't get fastboot to work anymore. From a command prompt I can do adb devices and get a response back that shows my phone. I issue the adb reboot bootloader and my phone reboots into the bootloader. The problem is it says fastboot ac and fastboot devices shows nothing. There are several odd things which partially leads me to suspect that my phone has something wrong with it. The only device that will show my phone through adb is my wife's ancient laptop, and I get a message about the USB port slowing things down. My work laptop, personal laptop, and PC all refuse to see the phone despite downloading HTC Sync, installing it for the drivers and removing Sync. Only the old laptop gets as far as the adb devices to work.
When I boot into bootloader, Windows Vista gives a message about unknown device and the device manager updates from showing the phone under Android and MyHTC to going under Universal Serial Bus controllers and showing as an unknown device. I try to update the drivers and point at HTC driver and windows lies to me and says that the best driver is already installed.
I'm at a total loss and can't find anything else to try. I have also used two different cables with the same results, one is a generic USB cable and the other is an HTC cable. I can mount the phone as a USB drive and copy/paste files. It is only in the bootloader that the phone becomes unknown.
Try using a linux bootable usb stick or a windows vm. It's more likely that something is interfering with the driver.

USB debugging shouldn't affect fastboot status. Only ADB.
Happy to help.
USB Debbuging should be enabled, I had the same issue with Win8.1 and use USB2.0 ports only, not USB3.0 and better not even a USB2.0 external Hub device.
So I was given another HTC sensation recently but this time it's bricked and I don't know how to fix it.
I have a working HTC sensation phone to test that the driver work on win 8.1
The problem
When turning on the phone it goes to a black screen with HTC logo in the middle and 4 small triangles with exclamation point in each corner, from here I have to take out the battery to turn off the phone.
Holding Power+volume down brings up this screen as well so I can't get into bootloader/hboot using pwr+volume down, same thing with plugging in phone to usb
What I've been told
phone is s-off (I assume this means it has a some sort of custom recovery)
bricked when pulling out cable during RUU while trying to return to stock
What I've done/know
windows 8.1
plugged to USB 2.0 port
USB device not recognised when plugging in phone, in device manager in Android HTC device properties
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed.

Need help. I was using Miracle Box to flash stock ROM, I don't know how but the phone (Micromax E453) is bricked now. I tried to start phone in Meta Mode (swiched off phone connected to PC by holding volume up button), it worked once, then following some tutorials I uninstalled (and checked, Delete the driver software for this device) MTK USB COM driver under port. Since then phone is not turning on and PC is not recognizing the device. Tired changing the USB cable and even tried it on another laptop, but no go. Kindly share what else I can try. PC has Windows 10 64 bit and MTK preloader vcom driver always has yellow exclamation mark (always installs with error code 10). I have disabled driver signature verificiation.

Did you have USB debugging enabled in the device's system settings before it got bricked? If not, you might not get it to connect via USB and be recognized.

Thank you for your response. Yes, USB debugging was enabled before it got bricked. I was able to successfully see my device when I ran adb -devices command. I was also able to run fastboot commands. Now its completely dead.
