Hi I used carbon backup unrooted, and did a PC Download of all my app data for about 200 apps, so have a 2GB zip file.
I went on PC download again and tried to upload this to restore my device, but it never seems to upload, it just hangs there.
Is there anyway to convert this file so that I can put it on the device and restore from USB storage?
Thanks!
the uploading stays there for me so i am also interested in this

I have found that if you transfer the files to your PC you should find that each app has a .ab file. You then download android developer tools to your machine and restore each file individually using such a command as:-
adb restore file.ab
When it asks for the password on the phone just hit accept. If you backed up the apk originally it should install it and restore the data, if not download the app from the play store, don't open it and do the adb restore to just do your data.
This worked for me on a couple of Apps.
Obviously you need to enable usb debugging etc.

Carbon uses the native backup option included in the 4.0+ sdk so you simply use ADB to restore these files.
I am a mac / linux person so if you are using windows it might vary a small amount.
Get the Zip file created by carbon and unzip it somewhere e.g. your desktop
Download the developer tools from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html and extract the files somewhere e.g Desktop
Enable USB debugging on the phone + install drivers for your phone if using windows + connect phone to computer via USB.
Open up command prompt / terminal and navigate to the folder containing the ADB app on a mac it's in platform-tools.
Find the app from within folder containing the extracted carbon backups and find the app you want to restore. The file should end in a .ab file extension. Look at the file size. If it's quite big compared to the app size listed within the play store and when you created the carbon backup you told it to include the apk's there is a good chance the app is included. If it is too small they install the app from the play store but don't open it.
Then run something like the following in the command prompt:-
adb restore path/to/the/file.ab
A screen should pop up on your phone asking you to enter a password to restore the file. You don't need to enter one. Just click what ever the positive button is to continue. It should restore successfully. If so, open the app and your settings should be there.
Let me know if you need anymore help

Not at root. It's somewhere like clockwork mod/backup. Look for the clockwork mod folder in your root directory.

i found the clockworkmod folder but theres nothing else in there should i create my own named backup? i put the update.zip in there and now when im in recovery>backup and restore>restore it says "no files found"
Lol... well first off you should never use ROM manager to do anything except RENAME your backups. Don't use it to flash anything or backup anything.
If you did a proper backup it would be under sdcard/clockworkmod/backup and it won't be a zip file. It'll be a folder of the date and time you backed up, and inside will have about 5 files some ending in .ext3 or .ext4.
Reboot into recovery manually next time, never use ROM manager for our phone.
I'm sure you lost all your stuff from your old ROM... don't know what that update.zip could be. If anything you can try backing up your current ROM the RIGHT way then in recovery, after you back up, just go to flash zip>and flash whatever the update.zip is... maybe it's a ROM? I don't know.

well i guess i lost my CM7 :/ everything on my SD card is gone now guess im sticking with paranoid android 8 thanks for the tip though ill keep that in mind next time. and where does it say flash zip? o.o in CWM?
clicked install zip from sd card and picked update.zip and it said it installed and then when i run it it just goes too the same rom i was on but everythings erased(i cleared everything before flashing it)
If the update.zip were a ROM it'd be about 85 MBs... yeah guess it's all lost :/.
If you have the March V21Y baseband installed, try this:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/lgforum.com/...pdf?1337877028
That's a hyperlink to a pdf from LG which contains a hyperlink to its V21Y Gingerbread update utility which works with Windows 7. I tested it and it works.
1. When you run it, after the update window appears, open Windows Task Manager with Ctrl-Alt-Delete and locate the program named "Download Window" and right-click on it and click on "Go To Process".
2. Right-click on the "SmartFlashTool.exe" process and click on "Open File Location". That will open the folder "All-in-On" where all of the files for the V21Y Gingerbread update are located.
3. In that folder there's an application named "LGUnitedMobileDriver...". Run that program to install the drivers then, after the drivers are installed, close the "Download Window" which first appeared on your computer's desktop.
4. Run the "SmartFlashTool.exe" program located in the "All-in-On" folder you previously located and opened through using Windows Task Manager.
5. Follow the instructions in the pdf file you accessed when you first started this process ( http://s3.amazonaws.com/lgforum.com/...pdf?1337877028 ).
Good luck.

It will wipe CWM and unroot. I first used Titanium backup, etc. to reinstall my apps but I wasn't using an ICS ROM, I was and still am using Gingerbread with Faux kernel and some tweaks. After you run the update utility, you will have to root your phone, reinstall CWM, reinstall your ICS ROM, reinstall your apps with Titanium backup.
I've attached the pdf file from LG which is referred to in my previous post. The pdf file is what the hyperlink in my previous post is supposed to open in your browser but, if it doesn't, it is attached here. Just follow my instructions in my previous post with those in the pdf file which includes the internet address where the update utility is located.

I'm having the same problem as the OP. I made a nandroid backup using clockworkmod and I can't figure out how to get it off the Moto G and onto my computer. The above adb command just brings over two files: .recovery_version and .last_install_path.
The nandroid backup does not seem to be placed on the emulated sdcard. I can find it by using the Rom Toolbox root browser. It is in /data/media/clockworkmod/backup.
But that directory is not visible when I connect the phone via usb. I try:
E:\install\Moto G Tools\MotoG-Tools>adb pull /data/media/clockworkmod/backup
and get:
remote object '/data/media/clockworkmod/backup' does not exist
Any ideas on how I can get the backup onto my PC?
Hello guys, proper path should be as below:
adb pull /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup /designated/folder/for/backup/backup.date
JP
just use a file explorer like es and move your backup to somewhere that is visible from your comp and then just copy it over .

I tried that. With an 8GB Moto G I'm lucky to have enough space for one copy of the nandroid backup. When I tried to move the directory, it runs out of memory - I guess it is actually copying and deleting. I could try moving each file individually, but that is tedious and error prone and I could still run into the space problem.

First time when I have a problem like this, I see the backup on phone but when I conect the phone to PC I can't find it. So, I use Total Commander and move the backup file in phone in other folder, like "download". After that I seen it to PC. Now, I use TWRP 2.8.7 and I make the backup to an OTG connected USB stick. It's simple after that to move the backup where I want.

First, you may have motorola drivers installed on your PC. You can find them from here.
Another thing you need is Fastboot. Unzip fastboot on your desktop on a folder.
Charge your device above 60% battery level to avoid shutdowns during the process.
Enable USB Debugging on your phone from Settings> Developer options. If you do not find Developer option under device settings, enter to settings/about phone and touch "Build number" 7 times to enable them.
Conect your phone via USB to PC.
Open folder where you have fastboot, right click it and open a comand prompt from there
In the comand prompt enter:
adb devices
now you will see if all is ok and your device has been recognized. You should see something like:
List of devices attached
random numbers and letters device
If not, probably don't have the drivers installed properly OR you failed to authorize your computer for USB debugging.
Now you can enter adb commands in terminal and pull your backup from your phone. Commands will be something like:
adb pull /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup /designated folder for backup/backup.date
You can learn more about Backup with ADB from Here

But seems doesn't work, have I did wrong
My phone detected but when I try adb pull, it shows this messages
You not give the right command to pull out. After "...clockworkmod/backup/" you must enter the backup name not the path where to download. It will download to adb folder. The name of backup file could be, how it suggest @pacmanman something like "backup.date" (where date is the date you make it). Sry, but you must find the name of that backup file or at least guess it.

Gorgone, if its not to much, can u give screenshot on how u do it?
I'm confused
Look at your picture. As you see in green what you do till here was good. Your device is recognize. Now, what I underlined with yellow was not OK. There you must put your Backup file NAME. The name is usual something like "backup.date" where date means the date you made the backup. It's nothing to do if you don't know that name, so at least try to guess it.
I use TWRP so my path will be a little different. TWRP is better for make and restore backups, you can even make a backup on an USB stick on OTG, so you don't ocupie the internal memory space, also you can easy move it where do you want.

Do you mean you uninstalled one of the Bluetooth apps in System > Advanced Settings > Apps > All?
If so, please use some sort of root explorer app (you have to be rooted first) to navigate to either /system/app/Bluetooth or /system/priv-app/Amigo_Bluetooth and install whichever .apk that appears to be not installed. I believe this should fix your issue.

Interesting.
I've uploaded my /system/app/Bluetooth folder here. Could you please download that, extract the folder inside to somewhere, and either:
Push the folder via adb using the command adb push Bluetooth /system/app/ while your command prompt/terminal is in the same directory where you extracted the "Bluetooth" folder (cd DRIVE:\your\directory\path\Bluetooth (Windows) or ~/your/directory/path/Bluetooth (Linux) ).
or
Transfer the extracted "Bluetooth" folder to either your microSD or a USB Drive, plug it into your phone and move the folder to /system/apps using your root file explorer app.
Finally, install the Bluetooth.apk inside (which I'm assuming is the one you uninstalled since it is missing).
Let me know how it goes, thanks!

I have the exact same problem as the OP - I tried downloading the said file but my phone says the file is corrupt - can someone please send an updated version?
Same problem, file corrupt.
Bluetooth got erased because the system detected that the app was sending sms by itself (or so it said) and thus deleted it. I have the same problem as the one above, the file seems to be corrupt and can't install the .apk
Please, if there is another way to solve this say so.
Same problem...
I have the same problem as above, my phone detected the SMS permission and said it might cost you money and recommend an uninstall. I never realised I would be able to uninstall Bluetooth without being rooted but it did it anyway - maybe it's an android bug?
Anyway, I tried downloading your Bluetooth.apk and reinstalling but it said file corrupt.
Any help would be much appreciated! Sounds like this is a bug that's been going around...

Basically you want to go to Settings>Apps>Reset app settings and that'll do the trick.

So after following this procedure, is the play store supposed to just show up in the list of apps? No installation or anything?
Works!
Thank you very much. I have the SNBJR-MT5C 8GB version, which I brought from Aliexpress.
A number of things dont work as I am not located in the USA so could not enter billing information, so many of the built in apps dont work at all.
Device Rooted.
Installed the files, and Google Play works! It asked me to create/use a google account, all looking good so far!!
Thank you!
Only thing left is to figure out how to remove/hide some of the built in apps in Nabi mode which are not appropraite for my kid, or are too advanced etc, or dont work due to billing issue.

Well, to do this uninstall you may use some apps available on playstore like 'es file manager' or 'titanium backup'; the ones I use most for this task.
The problem is that I do not have much luck on restoring deleted apps afterwards on this device.
You should try to disable the app on Android Apps settings before attempt to delete them.

Yes !
Simple like that.
Play Store is available on drawer list of apps.
Bit of help
Hi,
I just picked up two of the 8 gig models for my boys. I want to get the google app store going on both so i can get the nick jr app on there. I would love to flash the nabi jr nickelodeon edition on here if possible, not sure if it is. I'd like to follow this guide. Any problems if i follow this guide and then do a system update via nabi update, or should i disable that?
I'd be willing to provide any stock files if that would help make a recovery? Should I do twrp to make a backup for myself anyways?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Kutas

This procedure will not install TWRP, just play store.
It will not allow to flash another nabi rom.
By the way, since it is a different processor, they are not compatible.
We would need to port TWRP to this device and compile an specific kernel for this device...
This made my kid very happy.

This guide is for helping people that want to install Google play store at fuhu Nabi Jr Edition SNBJR-MT5C-US that have some expert skills. It is not an automated procedure yet.
This edition is equipped with an MTK processor and is not recognized by Nabilab tools so this procedure has to be entirely manual executed.
Root your device
Root device using Kingo Root
Enter Daddy mode
Boot rooted device and enter Daddy mode
Install Es File Explorer
Allow unknown sources to be installed
Install File Explorer from direct downloading apk
Make system rw
Enter Root Explorer option in Es File Explorer and select to mount system as rw
Download zip
Download zip from link below and extract contents using Es File Explorer

I know this is an old thread with nobody paying attention to it anymore but I just revisited this topic to try again. Followed instructions (I'm pretty sure correctly). Good new is I do have play store in the list of apps but when I try to login to my Google account it just immediately gives the message "there was a problem communicating with Google servers" or something like that. Any idea what the problem might be.
Hello,
I've recently been working to backup all of Viber messages/conversations along with media files.
Came across multiple threads and solutions. Wanted to gather them up here for everyone struggling with it, so we don't waste time again.
Here are solutions:

Hi, I have been trying to restore the viber messages whenever i change phones but i never had possible solution to fix the problem.
Today i was trying something and interestingly it worked!! Try to follow the below mentioned steps it might work for you too..
1) Take a backup of the viber using Helium ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...a.backup&hl=en ). This app works both for rooted and non rooted phones. For non rooted phones you have to connect to computer to activate the backup mechanism.
2) Install Helium in your new phone and select restore and sync option and then select the old device ( which will show up if you are in same wifi) and then select viber app and restore it.
3) Now open the viber app - Viber as usual ask for activation, just activate the it. This time you will not get the restored messages.
4) Again try to repeat the step 1 and step 2
5) reboot the phone and open the viber app. dont be surprised it will again ask for activation. Activate it again, but this time you will see all the old messages in viber.
6) to get the pictures and videos, copy the Viber Images/ Viber Videos from SDCARD -- > viber --> media from old phone to new phone.
Hope it works for all

Fool Proof Guide to fix Viber crash and restore messages/data
Force Stop Viber
In TitaniumBackup folder find com.viber.voip-(some numbers).tar archive
Open \data\data\com.viber.voip\.\databases using file explorer in android or transfer the .tar file to computer and open with WinRar program.
Find both "viber_messages" AND "viber_messages_journal" files
Copy them to \data\data\com.viber.voip\databases on the phone
change permission for viber_messages to RW RW --
change permission for viber_messages_journal to RWX RW --
And change the "group" and "owner" to same as the com.viber.voip folder - these are the permissions needed for the Viber app to access those files or it will constantly crash.
Restart phone and that's it, you will have all your messages

You can do it without root access
Requirements:
Install ADB and OpenJDK 8 (I had nothing to do with security extension) by following adb backup guide on XDA
Download adbextractor
Then do
Code:
sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jre-headless
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
Now, do the following
Connect the old mobile, create backup with adb backup (disable WiFi and data and forget the old phone)
Code:
sudo adb backup com.viber.voip -f /home/user/Downloads/viberoldphone1.ab
sudo java -jar abe.jar unpack /home/user/Downloads/viberoldphone1.ab /home/user/Downloads/viberoldphone1.tar
Install Viber on new phone and activate Viber, connect the new phone and create backup with adb backup
Code:
sudo adb backup com.viber.voip -f /home/user/Downloads/vibernewphone2.ab
sudo java -jar abe.jar unpack /home/user/Downloads/vibernewphone2.ab /home/user/a/vibernewphone2.tar
Open TAR archives in an archive manager (found Archive manager for GNOME 3.14.2 on my Lubuntu LiveCD). Copy files below from viberoldphone1.tar DB directory to vibernewphone2.tar
viber_data
viber_data-journal
viber_messages
viber_messages-journal
Repack to .ab and restore data to phone
Code:
sudo java -jar abe.jar pack /home/user/a/vibernewphone2.tar /home/user/Downloads/vibernewok.ab
sudo adb restore /home/user/Downloads/vibernewok.ab
Works like a charm. I have just tested on Android 4.1 and 5.0. I run into problems on Win7 with adb so finally used Lubuntu.
You can try to edit Viber DB files with SQLite editor. Probably DB files could be restored directly but I had no time to test

Smile Fixed! Android Viber Backup and Restore Successful
Okay, thank Jesus I managed to get this fixed and this is what it took.
This solution required a Rooted device.
Restore Viber backup (for me I did this using MyBackup Pro)
Install SQLite Debugger from the Play Store
Using SQLite, try locating the Viber database files by selecting App then choosing Viber from the list (if you want to locate the database manually, for me it was under /data/data/com.viber.voip/databases)
Choose the "viber_data" database
Open the database, scroll to the bottom, choose "Create backup"
Save the backup somewhere on your SD card (not inside the viber folder or else it will get deleted)
Repeat the same steps for the "viber_messages" database
Uninstall Viber (or if you are using MyBackup Pro, go under Toolbox and "Wipe the Cache & Data" for Viber)
Reinstall Viber so that a fresh, clean working set of databases are generated by the app (or re-open Viber)
Do the usual setup of entering your phone number, letting it sync contacts etc
Once Viber has settled down, close it
Re-open SQLite Debugger
Navigate back to the "viber_data" database
This time, choose Restore Backup
Select the backup file from your SD card
Kill Viber if requested and wait for the restoration
Rinse and repeat for the "viber_messages" database
Once it is all done, reboot your device and hopefully, the next time you open Viber, the old messages & calls are all there! Unfortunately for me, presumably due to the change in ROMs, the photos sent in Viber messages are in my Gallery but NOT in Viber itself.. I suspect this can be fixed if the path is saved somewhere in the messages database - but right now, I'm just glad to have the text back.
If you get repeated errors from Viber during this process, try freezing the app using MyBackup Pro Toolbox (I believe Titanium Backup also has this option)

Thumbs up This one is gold
OK Guys this is the only 100 percent way and after restore the activation screen wont ruin every thing
first: u need you backed up com.viber.voip .tar.gz file
second : u creat an empty zip file by right click . create zip
third: you drag the data folder that was in .tar.gz file and drop it in the zip file
fourth: you rename the zip file the same az .tar.gz file
fifthpen the zip file go into "com.viber.voip" folder inside the zip file and remove everything exept "database" folder
sixth:go inside "database" folder and remove everything exept "viber_messeges" and "viber_messeges-journal"
ok now and this is the most important part
seventh: go to www zamzar com convert zip-to-tar.gz and convert your zip file to *.tar.gz file
eighth:copy the converted .tar.gz file to the "go backup" or "titanium backup" folder (be careful the name of your file must match the original name)
ok now your good to go just go inside "go backup" or "titanium backup" on your phone and restore viber
THIS GUIDE WONT DISAPOINT YOU

I have used this method many times with great success. If both the old and new devices are rooted, all you have do is:
First - Activate Viber in the new device
Second - copy /data/data/com.viber.voip/databases/viber_messages to the same location on the new device.
Third - copy the entire contents of /sdcard/Viber to the same location on the new device.
Fourth - Reboot the phone
Job done......

Thanks to everyone posting here. I tried all the suggestions and nothing worked, Viber would boot and ask for authorisation then crash every time after i had copied files into the databases folder.
What eventually worked for me was...
- Back up with Titanium and restore as normal in your new device
- Let Viber go through the activation code procedure
- Unpack the com.viber.voip.xxx-date-xxx.tar.gz in the Titanium Backup folder using ES FIle Explorer
- Unpack the subsequent com.viber.voip.xxx-date-xxx.tar file with ZArchiver
- Use File Explorer to copy the "viber_messages" file from the newly created data/data/com.viber.voip/databases folder into the main /data/data/com.viber.voip/databases folder on the device
- Change "viber_messages" permissions to rw- rw- ---
- Change owner from root to the same as it is for other files in the folder (on my device this was changed to u0_a142)
- Change group from root as well (on my device this was also changed to u0_a142)
- Restart Viber

That's a fine collection. Thanks!
I was hoping to find something that would backup and the messages and convert them to some other format to read them without Viber...
In 2018 we should not have to root our devices and jump through hoops on PCs to have something basic as an automatic backup-restore of app data. Viber is bad, and its developers should feel bad.

That's easy: burger menu -> Settings -> Calls and Messages -> Email message history
But, since Viber now for some time has a backup option (to Google Drive), did anybody succeed in restoring messages and afterwards having images/pictures shown inside the conversations?
