[Q] Dual Booting - General Questions and Answers

I would love to have multiple roms on my HTC EVO 3D gsm I read some where that I could boot up to 10 roms :good: but unfortunately I couldn't find any step by step instructions for this process any help will be appreciated...

Not sure there's is a way, but I know you can just alternate through some nandroid backups, but the can be a bit of space hog on your sd card...

HOW TO install Nebula ROM epic 4G

First I want to thank the Dev. For making nebula Rom and xda for these awesome forums, which saves us epic 4G users from the bloatware on stock epic ROM.
Well onto my question I'm somewhat a newbie to this process and I would appreciate if someone can with somewhat detail explain the process..
I want to back up the current stock Rom and know I need to Root my phone I'm going to using z 4
Root or is cwn better? Then I will back up with clockwork.
After would I have too wipe my current installation (how??) Then I know put nebula Rom on my SD card and need to know the button combos to hold on startup.. and I guess install from the bootmenu?
Am I missing anything?
Thanks again!

Both rooting methods are extremely watered down have you tried downloading either of them?
I am not trying to be rude, but if it is hard to understand, then I would recommend reading more before you root.

If you're unwilling to read, learn, read some more, research, read even more and try, then don't do it.

Not trying to pile on, but... Seriously?
There's nothing difficult about the guide. The rooting techniques have been simplified as much as possible, for this phone.
Customizing this phone is going to require a little bit of effort on your part, it's not going to root itself.

yeah I know how you feel about rooting O/P but I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406 also androidcentral.com is another good site too if you have not been their already.
Also I would look into how to un-root the htc inspire just in case if you want to go back.
I had to watch the video a couple of times but it was not to bad but I do recommend this make sure your updated I know I had to do a wifi update then your good.
But if you have your phone all set up root will rest your phone all over again contacts will be their just if you added or did anything to it. It sucks it took me like 30 mins to set everything back up lol
Ok, I understand rooting gives you access and you have to downgrade your phone for rooting and then get a custom rom to pyt to a rooted current or future version. Am I right?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Well from what I read on roms, roms will give you customs look and some better features I have not added and Roms yet really just wanted to remove bloatware Im still reading about Roms and how to install them...Also I was just reading through the steps about rooting I think by far bubbys root is the easiest way to root.
lol I ask a lot of ?s ha http://forum.androidcentral.com/inspire-rooting-roms-hacks/88094-rom-t-stock-rom-sense-unroot.html
just in case you need it.. Cause I did root back to stock..which now Im thinking about rooting today.. Just cause I dont like the bloatware but which is nice about root it gives unknown sources thats if you DL and app rather then the market place right now I use Side Load Wonder Machine its a pain to go through the pc but unknown allows you to DL 3rd party off a site. but other then having bloatware removed and having unknown sources thats all I did for rooting. Helpful hint is also looking into how to make a back up of your phone just in case something messes up.
Thank you so much for your support everyone... so one final question... what is bloatware?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
bloatware is all the pre install apps and like the blockbuster ATT nav, yelp etc. even though this is for droidX it works the same just copy and past this -----> Droid X Bloatware Removal How To Android 2.2 FroYo <-------- in youtube and its the 1st, or you can use titanium backup Pro to freeze the bloatware which makes the OS of the phone think its not their anymore and you can unfreeze it later if you need it.. over all its to save some memory on the phone..
So how do i save all memory to my sd card before rooting?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
what do you mean memory? like in apps, pics? their is an app called app2Sd in the market https://market.android.com/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd&feature=search_result
that may help also heads up if you root you can do a back up with titanium back up and it restore your apps on that half Im not a 100% sure just google it one of the things I miss from my iphone is the itunes for backing up my apps.Still have not found a program thats like itunes for backing up apps fully and add them back if needed.
to bad you can just drag your apps to your Pc and save.. =(
But what will move my pictures and music to the sd card?

They should already be there. The phone stores that kind of stuff on the SD card, because internal storage is limited.

Ok, and one more question... Where do I find the rooting program for the htc inspire? Can someone please post a link?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
for moving the pic and music I would just move it to your PC and when your doing rooting just transfer them back.
Im about to root my phone again in like 15mins Im using this again

Both the hack kit and CyanogenMod guide will not work. Both require you to go to that goldcard site, which is down. Those of us trying to root are out of luck.
I think i might have stumbled upon a goldcard maker program. See if this works (havent tested(used revskills)) http://android.modaco.com/topic/308798-pc-application-goldcardtool/

You still have to use revskills.de with that app.

I used the hack kit,it worked great!

wifi won't work
I got everything installed, but now my wifi won't work.ive tried too diffent networks. logs in but not internet. only cell phone data internet works
You are on the downgrade rom. You need to flash a working rom thru h-boot. With a custom rom, rom manager will be included. With a stock rooted rom, you can download it from the market.

Slow Transfer Speed (USB)

Hi,
using MIUI rom right now, and I noticed that copying data from PC to phone is slow as hell (200KiB/s). It was OK while using the stock HTC rom. However when I go to the recovery and mount sdcard, transfer speed is relatively good (4MiB/s-10MiB/s). Does anybody know if it is a ROM related problem, because nobody from MIUI has posted similar issue.
Thanks for any tip or advice.
What is the sd card cache size on miui? Stock htc rom it was limited to a poxy 128k! I use this app to bump it to 2048k.....
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.sdincrease.it
See if that helps.

Most custom roms have had this tweak as standard for a while, and I've not heard of any issues with cooked SD cards. My class 6 SD card can be written to at 6MB/sec, so I shouldn't expect a cache of 2MB to push it too far. I've had the same 16GB card for 2 years on custom roms with this fix. No problems here.
I'd say make sure you don't have the cache any larger than your SD card class. For example, if you have a generic class 2 card, I'd perhaps only raise the cache to 1024k. That's still 8 times better than stock!
Use an app called "SD Tools" on the marketplace to run a 'before' and 'after' speed test.

No, it doesn't help. It's still the same.
I'm afraid that I can't remember where I've read this, but I believe that I've previously read somewhere in the forum that this is kernel related.
So possibly try stock kernel and try again.
