Hey guys,
hope this is the right forum.
I am searching for the name of an app, which is quite similar to the Sidebar (Pro) app. And by searching I mean I know that this app exists but I just forgot what the name was.
It installs a sidebar on the left/right side of the screen with a list of categories with every app you have installed inside. Afterwards you could put the apps in different categories and as far as I remember you could not create custom categories (at least at that time I was using the app).
I really hope someone knows the app I'm talking about.

There are a bunch of apps on the play store that add sidebars. Apart form the one you mentioned, here are a few- Swapps, Glovebox, Unity launcher. Hope this helps :good:
Unfortunately no those named are not the one. And yea I know there are alot but its quite hard to just search with "sidebar" :/
Edit: Alright I found it under "My apps" in the play store haha.
For those interested its called ReLaunch https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fiveprimes.relaunch

You can install a launcher i think. They are faster with their sidebars.

Here's something for you devs. How bout an app that can hide apps that are in the app drawer. (the tool bar at the bottom). Because right now if someone was to want to hold my phone they could get right into my email, pics, astro, bank account, market, anything! You know what I mean? if we had an app that puts those icons inside of it then that would be a good start. You could call it Drawer Mod or something like that.
Sure they could get to them from the application set up option, but thats not so easy to figure out. First someone could work on that, then they can work on a password lock feature for it or something. I'd pass my phone around more freely if I had a little more privacy than just the pattern lock. (that can be bypassed if you know how anyway). Is it a good idea?
No. Either don't hand your phone out or use pattern lock. If I could use your phone I would dial long distance out of spite.
I been looking for something like this but for a different reason Its cramped lol, I just want to be able to organize the apps in folders or something my games clutter everything. May add password protect to certain folders

Wow you're just awesome!!! Yeah you can sooo borrow my phone and call all the long distance you want. If you gotta call then call. lol I didn't think generosity could be misguided into hate like that. Go back to your cave hermit! What's your problem?
Now back on topic with civilized people.

Folders would be good.. it gets a bit cluttered in there.
Hmm actually displaying folders might be difficult but as for hiding apps I think the easiest way would be to effectively move them to a hidden folder on the phone... using shell commands someone could accomplish this... consider these shell commands
Hide an app
Code:
mv /data/app/APPNAME.apk /hidden/
Run an app
Code:
mv /hidden/APPNAME.apk /data/app/
*figure out some command to run the apk*
*figure out how to wait for app to die*
mv /data/app/APPNAME.apk /hidden/
Make the icon of the app be a folder and the interface copied directly from the app drawer and it might actually act like a folder
Nice! So it's feasable. Now all we need is for someone to apply the info above into an easy to use app, or I learn how to be a pro with terminal commands. lol
yeah i really need that app. in my rokr e6 there was a menu where you could pick different user setups Games:Office:and Custom you could put watever you wanted inthem

That is a nice find! Now there's a visual. Would really make the phone less cluttered and more like a desktop. I wonder if its coming to the phone version of android. Anyone up for making a set up based on that?
Based on the appearance of alternate home apps, some with multiple app drawers, Id say someone will do this eventually.
yea i dont know if its just me.. but i wish that there was more editing and revamping of the normal apps.... like browser/messaging/dialpad/contacts the default. I would like to download replacements for them... not steel/acontacts/chompsms (not saying they arent good cause I use the last two) But with Ahome replacing my home screen.. its not replacing it.. its on top of it. I think everything would work alot better if we just focus on editing the normal features instead of having like 20 differnt versions of contacts browsers and all that.
I hope im understood I sometimes have an issue typing my complicating thoughts.
Me too! This is an app or mod that i have been waiting for. I've been using Advanced launcher with my dounut roms. But now with eclair, it wont run. Im not so much worried about adding folder to the app drawer, but more into hiding useless icons to clean things up a little bit. Do i really need 6 different icon pack icons? when they come up as needed anyways. whats the point in icons for apps that are primarily widgets? PLEASE! SOMEBODY! create an app or a mod that allows me to do this. I would pay for it!!!!

in case i loose my phone i bought App Protector:
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-carrotapp-protectpronew-Attn.aspx
You can define apps which are password or lock pattern protected. This app has to be excluded from a task killer of course. I also protected market, root explorer and terminal.
There is another free app (ad supported) which does the same but only with a password. no lock patter (the lock pattern was the reason i bought app protector).

I'm pretty sure about 6-8 months ago there was an alternative launcher on these forums that had app hiding as a feature. I think it was discontinued quite a while ago, but yeah not only is it possible, but someone's already done it.

Don't go ask AndersWeb, he's already on record about implementing it (in summary, "no", though offering a patch might convince him otherwise.)
And yeah, Advanced Launcher is much more than two months old. At least since August 2009 (when I showed up), probably earlier.
Vault
theres an app called "Vault" that hides the applications in your app drawer
you need root to use it though.
i use it to hide the sms app
then use handcent....so i can blacklist certain senders ......obviously i also have certain adult 3g apps hidden as well
advanced launcher is the only thing i can think of, too. works pretty well on donut roms, i just wish someone would port that functionality into a 2.1 rom.
the ADW/almostnexus launcher that most devs are throwing into their builds now has some of the same functions as advanced launcher (drag n drop uninstall, compressed columns/rows) but no app hiding, which is a real bummer.
this was done almost a year ago
Download panda home app has had an option to hide the apps in your app drawer for almost a year. also to make customer slide out drawers in your homescreen. if i remember, long tap on the home screen then go into the drawer option, it works remarkable well actually.
is there any applications that allows you to start any application you want by doing a gesture in the screen?
i remember seeing something like that around the forum, but i cant remember the name :/
i guess you mean LMT launcher, here is the link

kudos to you my friend! that's exactly what i was looking for
This, I am *sure*, has been asked before, and answered. In fact I'm fairly sure I already know the answer, at least according to the official reviews... but then XDA people have a habit of changing the "official rules"
Anyway, I was wondering if it is possible to customise the apps that appear in the pop-up folder, that comes up when you remove the s-pen from the holder.
Im pretty sure you can't, and that its mentioned as such in a review I read before buying the Note a couple days ago. (On ICS at least... I dont know if this has changed for Jellybean?)
But I figured, if anyone has found a way to change this, you guys would have!
I did try searching for the answer in the forums... but my problem was I didnt really know what that pop-up menu/folder thing is actually *called*, which made it difficult. I'm sorry if I missed something obvious!!
Thanks for any help
Should I take that as a no? Or at least a "not yet".
No, not the side folder however a lot of apps have been added to the pop-up menu at the bottom of the screen, in the themes section there's a thread with links to apps that have been modified to work in this.
Theres also a thread floating around that tells you how to alter an apk file to make it capable of this. The downside is that since you altered the apk file you can no longer update that particular app without then editing the files in the apk file to once again make it pop-up menu compatible...

Yeah I knew about the multiview menu alterations already, its a thread I've been following for a while. I was only asking because, after deleting pen physics, there is a gap in the pen folder I would have liked to make use of.
Too bad

If you go into Settings, and select under System, 'Pen', the last option is called 'Options after detaching pen'. You can pick one or more things to show up. Not sure if this is what you mean, but there you go...

Nah, I did know about that one. One of the options in that settings menu is "Open shortcuts toolbar". Thats the toolbar I am talking about.
Problem is, the toolbar has like 5 or 6 default apps in it.. only about 3 of them is any use. It would be nice to be able to change them to apps of my own choosing!!

Ah, ok, I know you can choose to have only a few or just one, but as far as I know you can only select or deselect the ones shown. As of right now you can't add any others. I think I read somewhere that possibly with 4.1 or 4.2 that may change. :fingers-crossed:
Hi guys,
it is my first thread so please apologize inconvenience upfront, thank you.
I own a Pixel 2 since a couple of days and I really like it. But since I'm coming from a Huawei device and need to use iOS devices in my company I'm really familiar with the 'no app drawer' thing.
Yeah, I know that this is something most of the people love, but I really can't get used to it.
Is there anyone who maybe know how to disable the app drawer?
Already tried different launcher and the only one that I've found was the Mi-Launcher.
If there is the emui launcher somewhere outside, I would prefer this but I've looked already day after day for it.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thank you all.
cheers

Give it some more time. It's really nice to keep your home screen clutter free and all apps sorted alphabetically in the drawer. You wouldn't want all your computer find at work sorted randomly on the desktop, would you?
But if you must change it, I'm sure there are a bunch of iOS themed launchers in the play store. That's the beauty of Android... Choice!
You could use Nova Launcher. Just disable swipe app drawer and hide the drawer button. Make sure the setting "place newly installed apps on home screen" is enabled.
An essential application launcher for Android TV that does not replace the default launcher of the device.
Offers a simple interface to see and open all installed applications even those that are not native for Android TV.
Does not requires any permission to run.

You can see the information of an application by long clicking on it.
You can hide an application by long clicking on it.
You can delete an application from the list of recent applications by long clicking on it.
You can select not to see hidden applications. You can protect this selection with a PIN.
Bug fixes and minor improvements.
This is fantastic and really useful. I thought there would have been a discussion thread about this? I just wanted say thanks and also ask why the icons went from normal size in v1.3.9 to super magnified in v1.4, will there be a way to change this? Also I can't seem to navigate the new app information options very well, there are no highlight changes in the menu when you move up and down. The screenshot looks very different

Honestly, I don't remember what the size of the icons were in version 1.3.9
If there's a popular request I could add an option to choose the size.
Can you add a screenshot with how the context menu looks in your device? What version of Android TV are you using?
@easyjoin after some more testing I found that App Launcher v1.4 works fine and displays the same as your screenshot.
There seems to be a glitch that occurs when launching the app after install, confirmed on multiple devices with both versions, which I had mistaken as "super magnified" icon changes in the v1.4 update.

This screenshot shows the version of the app for phones and tablets. It seems that the Play store instead of using the Android TV activity when opening the app, as it should have done, uses the one for phones and tablets.
Good to know even if I couldn't fix it since it's a Google problem.

Well that makes sense then, and I found after testing that it's not an issue once you re-launch it.
Thanks again for such a great app !!!

Now that it's clear what the problem is, I can try to find a workaround.
Fun fact: there is a one star review on Play store of someone who complained about the size of the icons. If he had contacted me, via email or here, as you did, giving me the chance to get more information about it I could have tried to find a solution long ago. Unfortunately, many people don't know that the Play Store, as it is structured, can't be used to analyze bugs and the best thing is, after leaving the review, to contact the developer by email.
