I have been trying my best to figure out how to make custom wallpapers and photos fit the screen. This is what I came up with after trial and error. Open new document in photoshop and make the size 300X600. Open the wallpaper or photo you want to use. Place it on the 300X600 background and scale it down to fit. Open a new document and make the size 1000X1480. Place the 300X600 image in the center and save as png. Move it to sd card in the pictures/screen shots folder. Now when you open the picture to set as wallpaper, the cropping tool window should fit perfectly over the image.

I was gonna look/figure out those dimensions but was always too lazy to do so myself. Thanks!
Isn't the wallpaper on android the same height and double the width of the screen resolution of the phone? The one xl is 1280 x 720 witch should make the wallpaper size 1280 x 1440, not 1000 x 1480.

You're absolutely right. Here's something that I posted on Reddit a while back:
http://www.reddit.com/r/androidthem...papers1440_x_1280_ive_been_scouring_cropping/
I just cropped/resized to 1440x1280, the originals are in my comment.

For the resolution you need an app that allows you to change the density of your screen. There are a few in the market.
Be warned though, changing your density can cause some apps to act up or not install at all even.
*insert sig here*
You will need an app that can edit the build.prop files and change the density from the stock 230 I believe to something higher.
You can use something such as...
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.n00bware.propmodder&feature=search_result
or
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.canvs2321.absolute.system&feature=search_result
My density is 160, and everything looks great, but I want to change the wallpaper size, as well. Everything is small, but the wallpaper is friggin' huge... like normal. I have nosense script, so I can't do live, plus live wallpapers is not used by GoLauncher. Wallpapyrus won't load and I has this other app that puts the whole wallpaper, but it does it by width, not hight. Wouldn't it be nice if a wallpaper could be set to hight and just adjust to width or drop off excess from width?
For example. Using a 1024x600 res wallpaper on a device with 480ishx800ish screen. Make the hight fill/stretch to the 800 and scroll the excess or cut it off but leave the hight at 800. Of course, you would have to maintin the aspect ratio of the image, no stretching the width to fill the screen, you know. Instead of cropping an image to...
Even of excessively large wallpapers with a hight of 1024, it takes it and supersizes it, but only allows a crop bix of 480ishx800ish. I just want to fill a high def wall paper on this screen and have it scroll left to right accordingly.
If anyone knows of an app I can get my hands on to do this, please let me know. Also, there is a line in build.prop that says ro.product.display_resolution=4.3 | 480x800 WVGA Resolution... Would it be possible to change the resolution from there?
Golauncher can most certainly use live wallpapers.
*ins>rt sig here*
So, what is the issue? Why when I load wakkpapyrus and click the "Set Live Wallpaper" button it crashes? Everything else works fine except that.
I have a feeling that the issue is your screen density. Alot of apps will not work when you change your density. I just tried wallpapyrus and it works no problem. Another app you might try is multipicturelive. Change you're density back and try again..

Gonna give it a shot... Get back with you tomorrow night.

The posted images are not the correct resolution. The zip file linked below contains all of the XTZ's stock wallpaper images at the correct resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels. If you want, you can add the link to your original post, after which I will remove the link from this post and edit it to say "Never mind."

Because when you swipe left or right to view additional home screens or switch from viewing home screens in landscape mode to viewing them in portrait mode, the tablet floats the 1920 x 1200 pixel viewable screen area (actually 1920 x 1128 in landscape mode, 1200 x 1848 in portrait mode) over the 2880 x 1920 pixel wallpaper image. Reading my post Wallpaper Template for Xperia Tablet Z may help you better understand why the XTZ's wallpaper image needs to be 2880 x 1920 pixels.
If you want to keep a fixed view of a 1920 x 1200 pixel wallpaper image (again, 1920 x 1128 in landscape mode, 1200 x 1848 in portrait mode), you will need to install a third-party app like Simple Image Wallpaper Free.

Thanks for explaining. So i understood that i should manually resize all wallpapers, i want to use on tablet to 2880 x 1920 for pixel to pixel sharpness. But what will happen if i use for example walls from macbook with retina display with resolution 2880x1800? Will tablet stretch them one side to 1920 and therefore no px2px sharpness?

There are several different ways you could handle your situation. Without seeing the image you are talking about, here is what I think you should do to change the image from 2880x1800 to 2880x1920 without stretching the image.
Using your favorite image manipulation program (I use GIMP), do the following.
1. Set the image's background color to black.
2. Crop (not scale) the image's canvas size from 2880x1800 to 2880x1776 with X offset set to 0 and Y offset set to -12. Doing this horizontally cuts off 12 pixels from both the top and bottom of the image.
3. Increase the image's canvas size from 2880x1776 to 2880x1848 with both X and Y offsets set to 0. Doing this adds a black bar 72 pixels high to the bottom of the image. This bar will not be seen in either landscape or portrait mode because the tablet's lower opaque status bar covers it.
4. Increase the image's canvas size from 2880x1848 to 2880x1920 with X offset set to 0 and Y offset set to 72. Doing this adds a black bar 72 pixels high to the top of the image. This bar will only be seen in portrait mode but will be covered by the tablet's upper translucent status bar, so the bar being black is a good thing.
I hope I have helped you and good luck.
Another interesting thing is aspect ratio:
2880x1920 has an aspect ratio of 1.50 - 3:2
1920x1200 - 1.60 - 16:10
in many tablet reviews aspect ratio is wrongly defined as 16x10 or 16x9.

I forgot to ask: where do I have to install the wallpapers?
I cannot find a folder called like that.
Once I know where, should I upload the full.zip or the individual images as I wish?

Anybody knows?
I don't have stock rom installed, so i can't tell you the exact path.
Look in this direction -> /etc/customization/content/com/sonyericsson/wallpaperpicker/wallpapers
Just wondering what size wallpaper I should use if going with a 1 screen homepage.
It has to be 2160 wide by 1920 tall even if you have a single page on your Home screen. The content you want to actually see (if you intend to keep just a single page) needs to be left justified meaning it's on the left-most 1080 pixels (half of the 2180 total). Kinda weird but apparently Kit Kat works that way...

Or you could just go somewhere like interfacelift.com, find a wallpaper you like, select the resolution as 1080x1920, save it to your phone, open it in the Gallery, and set it as your wallpaper from there, which allows you to pan/zoom the photo and pick exactly what part of the picture you want to use as the background.

Just to confirm this is correct. I cropped the stock Wallpaper to 1080x1920 and did as explained above. The crop tool lets you select the whole image so you get what you want on the homescreen,
I am downloading 1080x1920 pics and then cropping them in portrait mode (for 1 homescreen) like you guys said but many of the pics are losing there sharpness in the process and no longer look hd cause I am basically zooming so much.
Can someone just tell me what size one homescreen page is?

its absolutely necessary to have 2160x1920 wallpapers when using stock way of applying wallpapers. you can use image 2 wallpaper to make it so you can use 1920x1080 vertical wallpapers though. The way android does wallpapers is ridiculous.
So Who else is having issues with wallpapers? After about 5 tries my wallpaper randomly decided to semi-work but the ends are still cropped but it's usable.
Can't find too much information on what the default 4.4 wallpaper crop thing does or how to use it (got mine from random luck).
For example the image i'm trying to use is 1920x1080
images6.alphacoders.com/419/419916.jpg
Managed to get it to center but it only shows this (from full left to right on my 3 pages/homescreens)
postimg.org/image/nl9r0o42l
So basically -
1. Anyway to resize or anything to show the full image on my nexus? (Have 3 homescreens/windows). I tried image2wallpaper but it only showed the same as above
2. How the hell does 4.4 kitkat's wallpaper settings work? Sometimes it would choose full left (So only cloud was shown), othertimes full right(So only sephiroth) and from random luck it centered with the edges cut like i said above.
Or is this simply just the limitation because of the devices size

Some images, based on their file type and size and how you crop it, will try and push itself behind your Google Now home page rather than only behind your custom home screens. The best way to probably do this and resize your image to the same size as the default wallpapers included with KitKat to give you a better understanding of where they need to be.
Test cropping - apply a default wallpaper and get used to the crop pattern and then try that with your re sized image to apply to your custom lock screens.
Just a thought.
Seems like what i'm looking for is the "proper" wallpaper size rather than the resolution
So I noticed that with the Nexus 5 image that's on the box (like this one http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/787373KitKatWallpaper03copie.jpg), except I don't think that's the actual one, if I zoom out from Google Photos, I see the red bar at the top. Android lets me set it as my wallpaper, but when I reboot, the view is zoomed in again. It seems Android resizes wallpapers on its own.
Proper wallpaper size is 2160 x 1920.

What is the resolution for the N5's viewable screen area? I want to make some custom wallpapers but I'm trying to find the best wallpaper resolution for them... the portrait size.
Thanks!
At the risk of being enabling, 1080x1920.
I'm not sure if the stock launcher lets you set static wallpapers though. If you're trying to fit it in that cross, you're going to have to make it bigger than 1080x1920. Sure you can find a template somewhere. Or use a different launcher.

Still have no N5, but I might tell you about another android device I have.
I made double width size wallpaper and it asked to trim it. So far, so good.
To make jpg I used imagemagic remotelly with something like:
convert -size 2160x1920 xc:"#color" background.jpg
If this method fails, you could always try again.
Best regards.
I just run a bunch of tests on my Nexus 5x (the screen size is the same as Nexus 5) using an image with a grid and I thought I should write down my findings here.
I have icons on two screens, so it is asymmetric: I have my main screen and a screen on the right, there is no screen on the left. The image has to be a little larger so that it scrolls nicely. The thing is that my phone shows _the middle_ of the image on the main screen. So the main screen is 1920×1080, when I scroll right 60 more pixels on the right become visible. Since there is nowhere to scroll left, 60 leftmost pixels of the image are never visible.
To sum up: one needs a 1920×1200 image (1200 = 60 + 1080 + 60). Leftmost 60 pixels are never visible.
