I connect a digital camera to my Note 10.1 (jelly bean) using a Samsung USB connector. The USB device is detected and a window opens with the contents of the device. Works great. When I'm finished, I tap the USB icon to safely remove the device. Later, if I reconnect the device, the USB Connected message is displayed, but no window with the contents opens. The file manager doesn't list the device. I can't get to the contents of the device unless I reboot and try again. This is repeatable.
Is there a way to reset the USB connection, find the device in "My Files", or get to the USB contents without rebooting between uses? Thanks for any ideas,
K.

You may have to re-boot the tablet.
Correct, rebooting works, but is that the only way? I hope not.

Try to connect the camera to the adapter first then connect to the tablet. I've had the same issue with some other devices and that fixed the problem.
I have the same problem and i get around it by running USB host diagnostics app. It an app from chainfire and its free on the market.

Thanks. I downloaded the USB app and I'm still having the same problem, I'll keep trying. BTW, turning the USB on before connection made no difference.

Problem solved. I uninstalled Avast Mobile. Now, I can reconnect the USB as many times as I want and the file window opens up each time. This is the behavior I expect.
Thanks all.

I'm on CM 10.1 RC5. On CM9, I thought I was able to plug my phone in via USB and have my computer treat it as a USB hard drive. Now it thinks it's a media device.
It's not a huge annoyance, I just am out of space and want to run spacemonger on it to find out what files are taking up so much space, but it won't do that now.
Edit: It used to connect as drive "F" and "G" if I had an SD card in. I'm guessing it's a change on the phone's end, since this behavior seems to have changed with updating to CM10.
I think it used to be "connect as mass storage device" or something similar
Edit 2: This did not work either, nor did USB switcher. I tried USB switcher first, that did say "connected as installer" but nothing showed up on my computer when connected. Having deleted USB switcher, then tried the terminal command has the same effect: it says it's connected as an installer but nothing shows up.
They removed that option from cm.

Are you aware of any way to put it back or work around? Neither of the two workarounds I found worked.
Did you try mounting it in recovery?

1. Can't send files to unpaired bluetooth devices.
2. First 4 letters of every unpaired bluetooth device are missing.
3. When connected to computer, device only charges. Doesn't even show the option for USB Storage. Doesn't work even from recovery.
4. After a reboot, notification panel's background resets to stock transparency.
Please provide solution.
it is normal thing with all roms

So this is very strange. When i use to plug my G2 into my mac and use Android File Transfer everything worked fine. Recently, I went to transfer some files over and I plugged my G2 into my macbook and it automatically chose the "PC Software" option and says "Installing PC Programs, check your computer." I go to select Media Sync (MTP) and it just automatically goes back to the PC software option. When i click Android file transfer it just tells me to plug in my USB. I have my drivers installed for my Mac and i've even tried it on my virtual terminal and the same thing keeps coming up. It's so annoying bc it use to work just fine.
Someone please help me
Have you tried a different USB cable?

Ya and same thing keeps happening. I am using the cable that came with the G2 when I got it. The same cable that I used when I use to be able to send stuff back and forth between android file transfer. It's very very strange
I downloaded SideSync for my Windows 10 computer, I've set it up. I can connect using the USB cable, and using USB it works fine. However, when I try to connect wirelessly the computer gives me a notification saying that the program must close, and then it closes. Does anyone have any information on what the issue might be?
