ATT One X TWRP question - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Not completely sure how to explain it.
1. Unlocked Bootloader
2. Flashed or booted TWRP
3. Confused as can be.
At this time I had no clue that there was a simpler system by hasoon.
I just want to get back to stock or whatever so I can just root my phone. I do not want to install custom ROMs, just root.
Can someone link me to a guide to get off TWRP or something?

you still need to do everything you've done. if you don't want to flash a custom rom and just have root then flash this in twrp and then wipe cache and dalvik. UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip
TWRP is just the recovery and you sorta need it. you don't have to flash a custom rom if you dont want to.

Can you tell me how to get the SU to my phone to flash it?

You shouldn't be scared of custom roms...you're scared because you dont know what's going on...but for just having root download what he linked you to your phone.. boot into twrp click into twrp and press install and find the zip and click on it

you copy it to your sdcard. also since you have twrp installed NEVER do a factory reset from the bootloader only do it in twrp.

have you tried reboot system? while you are in twrp you could mount usb storage then copy supersu to your sdcard and flash it.
only time i ever got stuck in twrp was when i accidentally flashed twrp to boot instead of recovery in which case it will always enter recovery. did you run "fastboot flash boot <twrp>.img" on accident? the proper command is "fastboot flash recovery <twrp>.img". when you flash recovery always good to run "fastboot erase cache".

I went to reboot. System. It started my phone and just went right back to the TWRP screen.

reflash twrp and boot.img to the proper places just incase

Can you give me a link and or a small guide to doing that? I'm kinda clueless when it comes to doing this kinda stuff.

I'm not the brightest with Androids lol.

Yes I mounted it in twrp. It started installing HTC MTP Device but it failed. Is that a required drive?

[Q] I can't boot into recovery mode after rooting

Hey all,
I used the "root your phone with Ubuntu" guide from the Nexus S Development forum, and then did a "fastboot oem lock" but when I try to reboot into recovery mode, the phone just sticks at the Google logo. I never see the /!\ icon to proceed further to install the 2.3.2 update manually.
I tried an "adb reboot recovery" to see if that would get me into recovery, but no luck there either, it just sits at the Google logo.
I have to remove the battery in order to boot the phone properly.
I'm curious how to proceed.

Huh, I thought the recovery reset itself... Thanks for the info.
Ah, drag, I had already locked my nexus back up, and unlocking it is going to wipe the phone all over again.
I think if I'm going to wipe my phone anyway, I'll just wipe it back to factory and leave the phone unrooted... Too much hassle with the internal SD getting wiped every time.

Only after a successful reboot to the normal system, and only if you're on 2.3.1 or greater, and only if you've not renamed the /etc/install-recovery.sh file.

Yeah, that sucks. I don't relock my bootloader.
Incidentally, I had flashed a recovery, it was called recovery-clockwork-herring.img as suggested in the original "root your nexus s with ubuntu" guide. Maybe someone should tell that author to suggest a newer/better recovery.

i was using the older CW recovery 3.0.0.0 also, so i just decided to flash version 3.0.0.5. since im at work, i cant fastboot it to my phone. i did it via the terminal emulator on my phone. 1st time i got a bunch of out of space errors so i booted into recovery just to check, and it was gone. nothing there. so i rebooted and tried it again via terminal. 2nd time was a success. to flash the recovery in the terminal emulator, download the recovery and put it on the root of your sd card and rename it recovery.img . now open the terminal and type...
su(press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img(press enter)
reboot recovery(press enter)
well, apparently a factory wipe was a bad move, 'cause now the phone rebooted and is stuck at the Google logo, like it's trying to get back into the recovery.

Factory reset won't remover the su binary and symlinks it makes. Factory reset only wipes the /data partition, not the /system one.
An oem lock, then oem unlock might, but I'm not sure...that definitely wipes the sdcard, though, unlike a factory reset does, so back that up first!
There's some thread on here someplace about how to completely remove root.
Pulled the battery, went back into bootloader mode, did a 'fastboot oem unlock', then flashed the crespo 3.0.5 img, and then 'fastboot oem lock' and the phone reboots properly.
Thanks again!

[How To] Flash Custom recovery and ROMS after 2.20 root

I'm sure there will be a lot of people running the 2.20 root then not knowing what to do. So follow this guide.
Make sure you have adb and fastboot available to use.
Download custom recovery, TWRP is preferred: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/99
Download the ROM you want to run, plus associated gapps to your phone, place them in the download folder (look in the android development and android original development threads)
1. Put phone into bootloader mode (easy way is: 'adb reboot bootloader')
2. Run the following command:
'fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-evita.img' (make sure img file is in same folder as your adb stuff)
then 'fastboot reboot'
3. Run the following command after the phone is rebooted:
'adb reboot recovery'
4. You should be in the new TWRP recovery. From there it is recommended to do a factory reset before flashing the new ROM.
If you have the newer HBOOT 1.14 (you probably do if coming from stock 2.20), boot.img's will have to be flashed separately via fastboot. Extract the boot.img from you ROM zip of choice and put it in the same directory as fastboot. Reboot your device into boot loader and run "'fastboot flash boot boot.img' (no quotes)
You can then flash the ROM and gapps via recovery and reboot and enjoy.

More specifically I'm not sure how to connect to the device in cmd. If I run 'adb reboot bootloader' it returns "device offline"
edit - closing/re-opening cmd appears to have solved the problem.
I'm not sure what I did, but I can no longer boot into bootloader mode. When I try now, I see a phone with a red exclamation mark inside a triangle. Does anyone know what I've done wrong or how to fix this? After a minute or two the phone reboots normally.
edit - I re-ran the script for 2.20 root to create a new backup and am now back in bootloader mode.
When i wrote adb rebot recovery it did not work what happened?
so say i want to run the viper rom i just pull the boot.img out of the rom and place it with my fastboot.exe file ( i have that and my adb files from when i unlocked the bootloader in the same folder) and flash it then i boot into recovery and wipe everything and install like normal? i came from a mytouch 4g and it was as simple as putting on the sd card wiping and flashing. this has got me a little worried i may screw up somewhere
another thing, the file is just named boot do i need to rename it boot.img before i flash it?

I'm guessing the filename extension is just being hidden. Did you try typing boot.img in cmd? If that works you know the extension is there.

i booted into recovery and wiped everything and then went and flashed the boot image then from bootloader, used the volume keys to get to recovery, booted into recovery and selected the file i wanted to flash let it run and presto it worked, i did not choose to wipe again since i wiped before flashing the boot image because i was afraid it would erase it
Just let you guys know, my toolkit allows you to flash boot.img. Just place the boot.img in the /Data/Kernels folder and press "With this command" and it'll flash it!

Rooted 2.20 now cant boot my phone

Hi Everyone,
So i followed all the steps to temp root 2.20 including successfully installing TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project). I then downloaded the CM10 rom and extracted the boot.img as per posts and rebooted into the bootloader and flashed the boot.img from CM10 via Fastboot. However after doing then rebooting to Recovery mode in order to flash the ROM, i get stuck in the red text where it gives you a warning about it being in development mode or something.
I am able to successfully boot into the bootloader via Power+down volume. Additionally I am able to boot into the TWRP recovery just fine, however I am lost and have no clue how to restore my phone to either the CM10 ROM or most importantly at least to stock working condition.
When i got to mount the SDCARD via twrp normally i would get a pop up on my screen and allow me to access my SD card, now i get a pop up just telling me that i need to format my SD card first. I'm afraid some how my SD card got wiped or something.
Can someone please walk me through the steps on how to restore my phone. Please if possible i would appreciate using LAME terms as i do not have any experience as you can tell i screwed up :/ Can you please listed step by step instructions including commands for Fastboot/adb etc etc if needed. Thank you very much for your help and support.

I know you tried to help, but it appears now I have bricked the phone. Hopefully i can fix it as i still have access to Bootloader and TWRP recovery. I'll PM you in the morning, thank you.
dont factory reset in bootloader. only factory reset in twrp. sometimes evita has a hard time getting into recovery from bootloader. just keep trying to get into recovery from bootloader. also even if your phone doesn't boot all the way adb sometimes still works. so try "adb reboot recovery" while its trying to boot.
if you did corrupt your sdcard try this method to get it fixed without having to run ruu.
[How to] Fix corrupt/unmountable internal storage on the HTC One X/XL
when you get your sdcard fixed remember to wipe everything and then copy cm10 and gapps to your sdcard and flash. since boot.img is already flashed you shouldn't need to do it again.
you did flash boot.img as "fastboot flash boot boot.img"? i made the mistake of flashing boot.img to recovery instead of boot. i was freaking out. just to make sure flash recovery again "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-evita.img"

Yes i did fastboot flash boot boot.img from within the Bootlader. FYI that boot.img was from inside the CM10 zip file. I belive my SD card is corrupt i will check out that link. FYI I am able to get into Recovery mode form the Boatloader if i chooser recovery. However since the SD card seems messed up i can't access it currently. Also I tried to use the method to install the CM10.zip file using TWRP recovery. That recovery has a GUI and you can click on the INSTALL button and choose the zip file you want to install, however it errors out.
What is the proper way to flash a rom when i am in the TWRP recovery? Can you provide me with the commands/steps? Thanks for all your support guys.

install/install from zip/browse to your zip/slide to flash (they really should patent that)
now most of us, to do a clean flash, we'd go into the "wipe" menu in TWRP before flashing , factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wipe system. then we flash our rom.
hope that cleared it up!

You won't be able to flash anything until you fixed your sdcard using the method in that link.

I tried to fixed corrupted SD card as per video. however after flashing the recovery.img via fastboot when it wants me to do a factory reset instead of doing the factory reset it just goes back to the HTC brilliant screen with the red warning text and sits there. If i go to twpr recovery and click on install i can't access me zip currently due to sd card issues.
Is there a way to format via PC since it lets me as long as I am in twpr and just put stock files/folders onto the SD card? Or is it possible to install the 2.20 ruu again? I re-downloaded it form HTC's site while I am in twrp however I cannot install it won't detect my phone. Thanks for your help.
"fastboot oem lock" then run ruu. ruu gets run in fastboot.
after the ruu, reunlock bootloader and flash twrp, copy cm10 and gapps to your sdcard, flash boot.img in fastboot, wipe everything except for external storage in twrp, flash cm10 and gapps in twrp, then reboot.
If you can get into twrp and go to mount, mount usb storage and connect your phone windows should prompt you to format the SD card.
Once that's done you can drag and drop the rom you want to flash then boot into fastboot and flash the boot.img.
If you want to run the ruu you need to relock the bootloader first.
To do that you must go into fastboot usb and then type fastboot oem lock.

Make sure you have the right drivers installed, download the latest htc sync from htc's website.
Install HTC sync connect phone and let the drivers install, then make sure you close htc sync from the system tray and try again.
Like DvineLord said below make sure you're in the bootloader then select Fastboot once selected it should say in red writing Fastboot USB.
fastboot only works in bootloader btw

Send the recovery img to your xoom with fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery.img
Then press power and vol up to reboot once at the M count 1 2 3 then press volume down. Then volume up to selext recovery. Once in twrp recovery flash your su.zip (ensure its compatabile with your current os version) and reboot. Then enjoy. When you select reboot twrp will prompt u to delete two files (if your stock) these two files will reinstall stock recovery if they r not deleted or renamed.
You can get the twrp recovery from my sig

Gone over it a hundred times in my thread so before you tell me im wrong, a replace your sd card or b why put the su zip on your sd card? Put it on the internal memory.
Edit... wait your trying to flash the img from your sdcard? Thats not possible
You need to read the OP on my thread on how to install twrp img NOT the zip

Ive told you already you can not flash a recovery from stock recovery. You are not reading the op of my thread. Or any other threads on how to do this.
The same method of unlocking the bootloader in fastboot is how you have to flash the recovery unless u already have a custom recovery.
Download the twrp IMG from my op to your computer, save it to your folder where adb.exe and fastboot.exe are.
Boot your tablet into fast boot mode (just like you did when you unlocked the bootloader)
From the folder that adb and fastboot are open cmd prompt
Type
fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery.img
The tablet should read out that its flashing. In the cmd prompt it should read out that its flashing also.
Once done type
fastboot reboot
Then when the tablet starts to boot you will see the red M count 1 2 3 then press volume down then volume up to select recovery. You are booting into TWRP

thanks bud, i try
If you still need help, here is a FAIL proof way... so that there is no mis understanding
watch this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-7wfZw0wj0&feature=youtu.be
then this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koxgbdQuzOQ
then remember to boot STRAIGHT into recovery after flashing, if you fail to do so the stock rom has two scripts in it that install stock recovery on EVERY BOOT. if you boot to android your custom recovery WILL BE over written
once you boot into TWRP and have finished your flashing and select reboot TWRP will detect the two scripts and prompt you to delete them or your custom recovery will be over written and you will have to re flash ( VIA fastboot like in the first video) again

[Q] Help - Rooting gone wrong

So I got the HTC One s and try to root it with the following instruction: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427&__utma=248941774.997411949.1390324490.1394471756.1396118873.6&__utmb=248941774.2.10.1396118873&__utmc=248941774&__utmx=-&__utmz=248941774.1394471756.5.2.utmcsr=feedburner|utmccn=Feed:%20xda-developers/ShsH%20(xda-developers)|utmcmd=feed&__utmv=-&__utmk=25799614
As I thought that Step 3 was only there to install the Superuser.apk i just skipped it (mistake no. 1) and wiped the whole thing (without making a backup --> mistake no. 2) and tried to install the Maximus HD Rom which as I am still S-On of course didnt work. So I wiped again but really careless and made mistake no. 3: wiping the whole thing instead of just a few partitions like system, cache,....
So now I have my device S-On, theres really nothing on it exept TWRP but there (and in other recoverys I tried) the USB mout doesnt work so I cant get a new rom on it So I tried to push it through fastboot but I cant find a fitting command.
Any advice what I can do to either get the USB work in the recoverys or push it through fastboot and which rom works without S-Off?
If you need further infos Id like to give those!

TWRP has ADB Sideload feature. Means you can flash zips using adb. Of course you can flash a roms this but keep in mind you have to flash the kernel (boot.img) manually immediately after flashing the rom.zip. When flashed Rom.zip by using ADB sideload method make SURE that you direct go into fastboot mode and flash the kernel (fastboot flash boot boot.img) (you can extract the boot.img from your rom.zip)
May be a compatible rom this time? But you're lucky -> Infact you already deleted everything you won't have to perform a wipe before flashing lol

Ok, but I dont know with which command (fastboot flash what? or adb?)
You can use adb sideload as followed:
Start TWRP -> advanced -> ADB sideload + swipe to activate it. Connect your phone to the computer. Open "CMD Commandline" and type "adb sideload ROMNAME.zip"
Of course "ROMNAME" has to match the zip you want to flash. Thats it
In twrp go to "REBOOT" -> "fastboot"
When fastboot usb is ready use CMD commandline again and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Then you can boot android
I whished I could. As I start ADB sideload it keeps doing nothing at all until I abort it. What I think is important to know is that it is then:
"E:Unable to mout '/internal_sd'
E:Unable to mount storage.", which I think is the problem.
Flash Stock recovery And perform "factory Reset + clear storage" that will fix your storage. Then flash twrp Version 2.7 again and do what I suggested to flash the Rom
Sent from my beloved HTC One S using (most time buggy) Tapatalk
Did the exact thing which removes the mounting error, but this has no effect on the sideload (or usb mount). Still not working.

Can you acces your sdcard by twrp? Lot of poeple here has sd card bug yet and it was fixed everytime.
You're facing sdcard bug.
This is how to solve:
1. Flash stock recovery
2. reboot to bootloader and perform "factory reset + clear storage" (While in bootloader NOT in recovery)
3. Flash custom recovery again
4. Reboot recovery - mount usb storage - copy ROM.zip to sdcard // adb sideload rom
7. NOW boot android (Not at any time before! Even there is no system installed)
Please just repeat it.

I can acces it in TWRP (of course only a TWRP folder in it). Tried the repeating progress over and over but nothing changes. And USB-OTG isnt able to mount.
Thanks for your patient help!

In case you can acces the storage in twrp its related to windows or drivers. What windows version you are running?
