I have a MoPho Q and have the bootloader unlocked through MotoDev's site, flashed CWM recovery, and am running Arrrghhh's kernel v 0.10. I have set my screen resolution to 180, it's nice have more virtual space to play with. However, I noticed that the sizing of the Virtual button bar and Notification bar have not changed (only the icons inside them). I read somewhere that this is due to these settings being contained within certain system files (I will describe these files in next post).
I am curious if there is a simple way to reduce these bars' pixel heights to free up valuble screen space, or if any devs out there are aware of any apps or flashables to fix this issue. Thanks.

There is a special prop for that (see the build.prop, don't remember it now, but it's easy to figure).
Well, easy nuff, but I am using ROM Toolbox to edit build.prop and I think that particular tool only reads and edits one of the many build.prop files (I've seen a few different build.prop files in the system). Any idea which ones to find, access and change?

Is there a way to disable the automatic screen rotation for specific applications? I thought I'd seen a settings app that did this, but haven't been able to find it on xda or anywhere else. Are there per-application settings that control rotation or is it just the global setting that's available? I've seen mention of doing this by editing an app's manifest.xml file, but am not sure if this can be done if all I have is the apk or not...
Yes i too would love and app that does this. Hope someone writes one soon
still looking for this :/
Its called PerApp... ill post a link soon

One solution...
I recently discovered the Xposed Framework and am using the App Settings module within it to control a variety of per-app settings, including orientation.
So I've been trying to use ninjamorph to change the icons for regular apps I download (for example, the game alchemy). I load up a new project, and swap the icon.png with one that is identical in size. When I finish up the project and reboot, the app is no longer there - I can't seem the get it to work at all! All I did was change an icon. Is there something I am doing wrong or missing?
NinjaMorph can be finicky ... If the "replacement" .png's are not on the Root of the SD they "sometimes" won't load properly.
Also, when asked if you want to ZipAlign... say no.

I had problems with Ninjamorph, took me a lil to figure out, but I had my new icons in a folder called "Red Icons" and the icons wouldn't change. I removed the space and haven't had any other issues.

Its always best to move the pngs to the Android Themes folder created by ninjamorph. And don't put them in another folder. The icon will disappear after editing it but should return after a reboot. Try putting the pngs you want to use in the Android Themes folder though and I know it will work.

PERFECT!!! It worked.... I just had to move the icons into the root of the SD... THANKS!!
Okay so I've looked around at couple different places and there no real way to explain how to get my status icons to stick. I'm trying to add a battery mod from my phone majority of the icons come from ROM tool box that auto flashes them to the device however some icons are missing like 20% battery icon.... so I go into ninjamorph open systemui and edit the icons as normal but when I go to finish the project its like the setting don't stick I'm running Jedi jelly anybody help or input on this

The goal is to be able to change small things in some apps.
For example, there is an app called SnapChat which allows you to send a picture for 3 seconds and then closes the picture. In this scenario, I would like to be able to edit the .apk file to allow to stay for 4 seconds. Would this kind of this be possible?
How so?
Um....you can do this within the app.....stock....

post this in android hacking. it is not a verizon gs3 topic. you'll find more support there.

I know, it was a poor example. But I'm just wondering if it would be possible to do small changes like this to apps?

You can change alot of things in apps just by playing around with them. Using Apktool or another decompiling tool, you can change alot in the res/values folders Theres alot of stuff you can play around with in the various xml files

So you are saying I can't decompile or recompile apks on my phone? I have to use adb to push/pull and then use a program to decrypt the XML then I can change the values to what I want?

You're gonna have to adb push/pull unless you build your own ROM.
You can get apktool from here: https://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/

You can swap out images but you definitely can't change app settings like animations and such without the right tools and procedures.

OK. I don't want yo change animations just yet. I want to edit app icon colors widget colors. I pretty much want to theme everything.

use 7zip on your computer to swap out png's. change app's name from whatever.apk to whatever.zip then move it to your computer using 7zip open the archive. don't extract or unzip. navigate to res folder and open it. find the png files you want to change and insert your png files you want. make sure they are the correct size, in the correct format (png) and are named correctly. exactly as they are in the zip file. then close the zip transfer it back to your phone and rename back to whatever.apk i do suggest doing some more research before doing this. there are a lot of threads dedicated just for this. use the search engine at the top of the page. XDA provides it for this exact reason.
Remember how, in the older versions of Android, there was a button to get to Settings where the status bar was when you pulled down the notification shade?
Now, you can dedicate a whole tile to it, and it simulates the same affect, except... I don't like it.
See attached picture. There's plenty of space up there to have a little settings button. I hate having to swipe over to the tiles to get to it.
Anyone know how I can get this beloved retro feature back?

If you decompile SystemUI.apk and then make smali edits you can add in the Settings icon and function like you want, check out this guide as a starting point for what you want to do and I would adapt it to fit your needs.
