Customising email and calendar - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

I know there are other programs I could use but is there a way to change the color for the stock email and calendar programs? I know I can change the color of the emails but haven't found out how to do the whole program. Any ideas?

I think you would have to modify the Email (or calendar) app itself, i.e. the .apk (and the .odex file, if you're on Stock)
I don't know how to do it, but I do know that some Android Programming knowledge is required.
Google it.

So... too hard to do then. Back to Touchdown I go, I guess! That's OK. Its a great program. Just thought I'd streamline a bit. Thanks folks!

[Q] the only gripe... very slow Email app with Exchange

The only gripe i have with the Galaxy Tab is the abominably slow Email app with Exchange integration. On any app start or when return from reading an Email it takes a full 30 or more seconds to load the Email list (i sync 1 week) and more often than not the screen / app becomes unresponsive and force closes.
I discovered that unlike Touchdown the in-built Email app simply downloads all Emails (1 week horizon) in all sub-folders (i have many, organization freak...). With Touchdown i can pre-select the folders i want on the Phone/Tab, which obviously makes the number of items much smaller.
By now i don't want to change from Email to Touchdown, because I like the integration of Emails & calendar entries, etc. native, but I have to work with the tab on work Email,... can't wait for every mail for 30 sec to load
Does anybody experience this too, and are there any remedies?
thanks
That isn't the case with me. I have 27 subfolders (really), not counting Inbox, Sent, Junk and Deleted folders. I need to manually refresh all but the main Inbox.
Response time moving from folder to folder is also a non-issue, and I sync back a full month (which is thousands and thousands of emails). I don't notice any extra delay when leaving Email and doing something else on the tab either.
I'm using Push, not timed polling, and no "peak schedule" so that may make a difference.
Sounds like you might have some database corruption going on. Try going into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/All/Email and then "Clear data". This will nuke the mail on your device without changing your account settings. Sync up again and see if you still have the problem.
If you do, go into Accounts and Sync, click on your Exchange account, and click Remove Account, then reboot the Tab. Once you've done that, set your account back up, resync, and see what the situation is.

I will try clear data
I did see the issue reported (with no solution) on other forums though
Thanks
Edit: cleared data, same issue. I am hesitant to re-setup, because others have reported that that didn't help them either. I am on JM6, interesting that you don't hv the issue

Same here,
have 50 subfolders
use Countdown actually.

Same with me. Very slow!!
It was the same on the original firmware/rom, on JK5 and JM6. Also performed full factory reset but it makes no difference.
Using the eval of roadsync at the moment and it works pretty well but it does not integrate very well with the calendar and contacts apps. I will probably configure roadsync for email and the built in app for calendar and contacts to get a working solution. Annoying and very disappointing!!
Search for the port for Galaxy S of the email app from galaxy tab, it solved the slowdowns and it removed the security pass.

This worked for me no lag when opening up my corp inbox. Tab now 100% perfect.
Had to change the galaxy email app shortcut as it was set to open the previous account by default. Even though they were called the same it always opened a blank mail box . I then had to change to all accounts. Now resolved

Be careful, it's a very OLD email.apk, from a pre-release leak of the Tab ROM.
It's missing a few features, and it has a lot more connection issues. I tried it just to bypass needing a PIN, it was not reliable.

yeah, i can see that in the referred thread...
so is there a newer version that works AND is not taking 30-60 sec to load?

It's old but is usable, the stock one is impossible to use... maybe in future updates samsung can solve this huge problem...

ok, this thread needs to be updated a bit, because just simply referring to the link is bad advise.
it broke my camera (driver crash), probably because the email.apk posted in the other thread linked does not have an *.odex file
i reverted back to the original email.apk and email.odex and my camera is working again.
scary
haha
now i am still stuck with a very slow email app

You have to use only the email.apk and keep the original Email.odex, then the camera works fine...
The only problem i found is that the version of the port is from an old version... anyone have a more recent version?

There seems to be a new firmware from samsung out... Wonder whether there is a new email client too...
Last time I tried to pull it from the fw, but didn't succeed.
Any solutions on this?
I think the problem is related with security from exchange. Because when I use the stock app I have to assign a pin to access the system, and the mail app works very slow, but when I use a modded version without the security it works normally...

Am also looking for solution still newer fw's like JME have not solved it yet
The implementation of Exchange on Android is screwed... I use an Exchange 2010 server and not all my folders show on my android device. And even the ones which show dont update ona regular basis (My Sent folder updates once in a while... Right now it hasn't updated for 2 weeks)
On top of it it doesn't update all the features/items. For instance impossible to have birthdays for contacts. Or impossible to modify an event from the exchange calendar (It's only possible to delete it)
Not much to say. It's disappointing on a phone. It's ridiculous on a tablet (you expect at ;east the email client and the calendar to be perfect on a tablet)
Same happens to me since the beginning, anyone has found a solution???
I think it's unacceptable
Thanks

Stock email app

I just got my phone a couple days ago and love it but couldn't figure out how to change from different email clients when using the stock email app. It allows you to set a default but are you able to go to a different email account besides going to the message app where is takes you to texts, email, fb, etc.
Thanks in advance and sorry if I sound like a noob.

I don't know your answer but if the "other" email account you want to use has an app in the market (most of the big ones do) I would suggest using that instead. Most stock android apps are pretty much just there to get you up and running until you install something better. I only use the default for exchange access for work.
OK that is probably what I will do then. I just would like to have all my emails in one place so it is easier to check.

Oh it's certainly capable. It's just nice getting "native" features like proper labels in gmail and such. If the stock email app isn't to your liking and you want to stay with an "all in one" app then check what the market has to offer.
Messaging App gives you Universal Inbox

Use the Messaging App instead of the Email App - Messaging gives you a Universal Inbox, or option to open any individual email account, Text Messaging, or Facebook.
(I haven't found an email app in Market that looks any better or does any better, for me)

Best email app on CM7 / Boca

I switched recently to Boca and could not be happier in terms of performance and battery life.
I am missing one thing though: the well designed / slick / beautiful email app from Samsung (probably the only touchwiz thing I miss I would say)
Which email app are you guys using? Kaiten, Moxier, Enhanced email look interesting. Any advice?
I remember a post a year ago explaining Samsung's email app was just a derivative of another one but I cant find the ppst anymore... Could be interesting to explore this as well

Email
I tried Maildroid, it seemed okay. I prefer Samsung email over the Gmail app too...
I really like the Samsung email app on my 8.9. I use that for my work email and keep my personal email in the gmail app. On my galaxy s and my (former) evo I use the enhanced email app. The developer for that app was really responsive when I first got it (back when it was $0.99, and had less than 50 downloads). I originally got the enhanced email app because it was the first one I could find that offered exchange phone lock password requirement bypass.
Thank you, I will have a look I checked K9 and Kaiten mail but I can't believe they still don't support Exchange 2010
I lve the Samsung app, definitely my favorite but I haven't found anyway to install it on a non Samsung ROM. I tried restoring with Titanium backup, I tried installing through ADB, but then got some certificates issues... Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]
Couldn't find anything on the web with people able to go around and install it
If you want the samsung mail then you need to use a Touchwiz based rom. Boca is a CM7 based rom. Other than that if you need trie exchange support then touchdown is the best. Or just use imap and kaiten.

Yes I know that you need a Samsung Rom to have the right certificates for Samsung's apps which is definitely not the case with AOSP or CM ROMs
I was just wondering if some people had found workarounds
Touchdown? It's not gonna happen the application is bulky and ugly...
Thanks anyway
But there is some hope...
Unfortunately not yet for exchange accounts

Its not even about certificates more so than the whole touchwiz framework that needs to be there. If you are just after two pane email.for your gmail, run 160-182 dpi and set browser for ipad and you will get the gmail ipad site. On the other hand, Touchdown is not ugly once you fiddle with it but is the only working EWS client next to ICS I believe, unless you want Good for Enterprise (shutters at the thought).
Lemme know what you end up with.

Already using Good Enterprise for my Work email on my tab. It's not bad actually but eats a lot of battery
I am not looking for an app for GMail, but my personal exchange email. It looks like the one tat messes the least with your overall Android experience is Enhanced Email (And it does support Exchange 2010 accounts). Only downside is it doesn't seem to add any proprietary calendar and to be honest the default Android calendar is relly... ugly... (And not very practical)
Forget about Enhanced Email... It looked interesting from everything I read... BUT I tried the eval app. It resets all the sync emails every time I get over a few days emails... (Could be an issue with the trial version though, but if you make a trial version, you make it good....)
Besides it doesn't allow you to input from your device more than the name, number and email of a contact. Forget about birthdays, etc...
The developer seems reactive but it'snot going to be enough. Aaah I miss my Samsung's email client !!!
So, not I wont get this and I may very well stay on the stock app even though it misses pinch and zoom as well as search...
I hope ICS will be better. Anyway K9 is getting close to a good working solution for Exchange 2010 so I will probably wait until then..
Now I am using MIUI rom but missing Samsung stock email app. I tried pasting apk and odex to system folder but it is not working. Is there any way to get this application on miui. I tried. Different market mail like k9, Maildroid bit nothing comes close to samsung mail app

Happy to find someone who shares my opinion
If you follow my link above you will find a version of Samsung's app hat installs on MIUI but is a bit buggy (Will not easily allow to attach something to the email and will not support Exchange accounts)

Alternate SMS application

I'm looking for an alternate SMS app that is almost the same as the stock app but allows me to attach an APK file.
A lot of apps I get my fiance wants and it would make it easier to be able to grab the file from a file manager inline rather than having to open ROM toolbox and send it from there.

You can share any app you want from play store directly from the share button in play store and text it to her
Sendt fra min HTC One med Tapatalk2
Umm you can't attach files to text messages I'm prey sure, so no app will be able to do this (if im right). UNLESS the app also has its own messaging service on the side that can attach files, but then that would defeat the purpose because whoever you trying to text will have to have a smart phone, (they might even have to have android if the developer doesn't support other mobile smart systems like iOS or Windows Phone), because having a smartphone is the only way to get this made up app that doesn't even exist.

But since you said she wants the same apps, I'm assuming your both using android. So in that case I recommend an app called App Info XT because it has Holo Design, and can send apk directly from the app without the need of another file manager. But you will have to email it to her, since she has android she probably has gmail account. App Info XT can attach the apk to an email client directly, also, so thus is probably your best bet.

Multiple FB Apps?

Is there any way to alter the FB app so that I could install a 2nd or third alongside the original with different FB accounts? I've tried changing the package name and such with apktool but can't get it. Is it even possible? Any help is appreciated.
Just use FriendCaster for multiple account
