This is more to bring an issue to light than to ask a question about it, but I recently tested out a few other roms while waiting for a carbonrom update (crackflashing addiction got the better of me, don't judge) and I noticed something on a couple of them that was really worrying. My home button stopped working. I have no idea how it happened, but it wasn't really a big deal since I use the navbar anyway on my phone. That was the really strange thing though. When I activated the navbar the home button on the navbar stopped working. Tried a couple of things and tweaked around a little, but nothing worked. So after restoring my nandroid I installed the carbonrom update and my home button worked again. I was just wondering if anybody else has had this issue with 4.2 roms at all and if so, what do you think could be the culprit behind it? Thanks for the input.

Did you do a full wipe before flashing a new ROM? If not then you should do that next time.

I occasionally get into a mode where the hardware keyboard is non-responsive. Nothing on it works. I'm not sure if this is a defect on my particular phone, or if I've accidentally enabled some "feature" that causes the keyboard to be locked out. A soft reset will fix the issue, but that can be very annoying...
Has anyone else seen this?

I have experienced this before, where the backlight wont even activate from pressing a button, and the keyboard certainly isnt typing anything on the screen either. Although usually i can fix this by sliding the keyboard back in, and then out again.... annoying yes, but its only happened twice in the month i have had my ATT Fuze, and i havent had to reboot like you mentioned.
When running my stock AT&T rom, I had this happen almost daily. Now that I flashed a new rom, I have yet to experience it again. I had to turn off/on my device in order for it to go away before.
Same problem here.
Sliding in and out does not work any more.
Resetting doesn't work anymore either...
Time to flash to original Roms?
Keyboard lock up
This happens to me too. I noticed that it happens more frequently when I set my wifi to best performance, and then try to type something. Keyboard becomes completely unresponsive. I usually have to soft reset.
I had the problem with stock ATT rom, NATF rom, and now with RRE 4.5SE Rom. I have tried the T9 dissabler, but it also did not work. My Fuze is only a few days old...
I notice this seems to be a common problem... No one seems to have answered this in any of the posts I've read. Is there a cab or patch or reg tweak that some one has come up with to deal with this? Can some one look into this???
Thanks so much in advance!
Mitch
*Edit*
Forgot to mention that this my second Fuze, sent the other one back because it was doing the same thing...
same unsolved issue here (wants me to crack my fuze)
Ive noticed this too... but what I do to correct the problem is hit the window key. It then activates the start menu. Then press it again to exit the start menu and the keyboard magiclly works again. At least for me anyway.
I have this problem occasionally, maybe twice with the ATT stock ROM, an once with the RRE 4.5SE ROM, mine rights itself after the application is closed and re-opened after a minute or so, so Im not that bothered, it is annoying though.
Nice, I'll try that..
Try the NATF ROM
Since I've switched over to the NATF ROM I haven't had a single problem with the keyboard.
tried NAFT v4 already with the same hq keyboard lock/die/shut down issue

Same issue here, happened with both stock rom and NATF 4.1
It goes away after doing some random things like others have mentioned, but still annoying.
My search button is flickering, firing itself off in bursts, and I want to completely deactivate it. The flickering was/is apparent in Clockwork recovery --> Key test as well.
It first happened using a 2.3.4 deodexed rom (been using it for a month or so, but all of a sudden it started firing off), then I flashed a CM7 based rom which completely killed the button. I figured it was a hardware issue, but to be sure I flashed an ASOP rom (ZuluZulu) and after a couple of hours of use the search button button started firing off again. Between the periods of bursts, the button is as dead as ever, meaning it's lit, but does not respond (haptic feedback, opening the search app) at all.
Since I don't use the button at all, deactivating it completely would not only resolve the issue but save me the trouble of accidentally hitting it once in a while as well
I've searched a bit and found this answered thread over at Google: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=49e8ca84071d51a4&hl=en

I have a nexus s running 2.3.3 and I will be using it normally and all of a sudden it will start a voice search without reason but, it opens and closes it really fast for as long as it wants. It only stops when I lock the phone and it does it in all my apps. I don't want to have wasted my money on a p.o.s phone just cause i can't stop it from wanting to search. Help it happens all day and more than ten times a day.

Hello again everyone,
Good news -- we've identified the source of this problem which is entirely software based. We're developing a fix which we can deploy with an over-the-air update. I don't have a timeline for when that'll happen yet, but when it's ready I'll let you know.

I don't know if it has anything to do with anything as not even wipe + re/flash different roms changes it though.
I've got a stock evo shift with the most recent OTA update (Android 2.3.3 Sense 2.1 Software number 2.76.651) and my Sense has been restarting ALL THE TIME. I'll be using an app, hit the home button or the back button to get to my home screen, and it'll show a white screen with the green HTC then show my home screen with a loading message for 5-10 seconds. This only started happening after updating and it's starting to get pretty annoying. Anyone else have this problem/know of a solution for it? I've tried reboots and it usually seems to make it happen less for a little while but it always starts to happen again.
Since you said Stock. Does that mean unrooted? It is a known issue on Stock Gingerbread. The Memory settings are to agressive. You can try AutoKiller Memory Optimizer to change the settings. But it will only help so much.

yup, unrooted unfortunately. waitin for the root to come out. that's pretty stupid that HTC/sprint would put that out without fixing it. devs these days

I had the same problem - got to where almost every time I switched back to the home screen from doing anything, it would have to reload. I tried disabling fast boot and it didn't do anything for me. I did a factory reset, re-downloaded the apps I wanted to keep, and that seemed to fix the problem. Very rarely happens anymore, only seems to occur when I am in the browser for a long time or playing a game for a while. Hope this helps.
I'm rooted, on the stock rom, and sense would re-load. I use Launcher Pro now, and while I still get a few reloads, the launcher refreshes much quicker than sense, and it does have widgets similar to Sense. I had paid for LP Pro last year, with my Evo, so I figure I'd use my paid app.
*Double Post*
I am having a major issue with multi touch, and it happened on stock so I don't think it's the rom I'm running (CleanRom Dev).
If I let go of my second touch, the screen loses the first touch location. So, if I am playing Minecraft or Shadowgun, I'll use one touch to move forward, that works, then I'll use one touch to move the screen, that works, but as soon as I let go of that second touch, I stop moving; even though the first touch is still being held on the screen. This happens in any game I play, even with the HTC Gestures off.
I saw a couple other people were having issues with multi touch, but I'm wondering if this is a problem with the kernel or the device. I saw that h8rift mentioned that the kernel's multi touch is a hacky implementation.
Any information is appreciated,
Thanks.
Hmm, appears to have gone away after powering off then back on after turning off HTC Gestures.
Edit:
Issue keeps coming back a few minutes after rebooting.

Yeah, same here. It took me forever to figure out that it was HTC gestures that was the culprit

Same thing happening to me! Been trying all day to figure out why Gameboid was acting weird. Just tried Minecraft and something is definitely up. This wasn't a problem on CleanRom 4.1. Since flashing 4.5 I've been having this issue. Strange that you've had it since stock...

Hmmm, maybe this should be under CleanRom development then. I may not have had it on stock, I thought I did, but I wasn't on stock for very long
thats the same issue that we were having in AOSP ROMs which is weird since Clean ROM isn't AOSP based.
We fixed it in kernel source though.

Good to know, I was just worried that my phone was jacked up D: lol
Do any of you guys use WidgetLocker? WL is known to cause issues with multitouch; I use WL, and my workaround is to simply disable it, turn my screen off and on, and reunlock with the stock launcher and multitouch works in games again. Then I turn it back on when I'm done.
I use Holo Locker does that cause issues?

Wow, that was the problem. Disabling Holo Locker, then turning the screen off and on resolved the problem. Weird....

You're a genius! Holo Locker was causing the issue. Thanks so much.
Yeah I had that problem too, it was being caused by HTC Gestures. I just turned it off because I didn't ever see myself using them.
now me too..but..
Hi, i am having the same problem that described in here but with a twist,
i noticed on my HOX on "HTC gestures" check button, it behaves the opposite from what it actually ticked.
I factory reset the device, the problem solved although the "HTC gestures" check button still behaves the opposite, after a while (hour or so) the problem with the touches repeats. i test it with the Multitouch Test app. (the only app installed).
I haven't rooted or changed the rom on the device only updated it with the official updates. last update on November, 4.1.1 , but it was great since so i don't know what triggered this.
please help...

GOT IT. :silly::silly::silly:. (after alot of factory resets)
The trigger of the bug is If you select:
Personolize -> Lock screen style -> No lock screen
Try it.
you want to uncheck HTC Gestures. it is used for another purpose not what you think it is only used for when your phone is connected to tv.
Hey everyone, I'm having a weird issue with my GS3 SCH-I535. On any AOSP rom I try (CM10 Unofficial and Official, AOKP) my physical home button doesnt do anything except wake the screen when it's off. It wont return to my launcher. This doesn't happen on touchwiz roms (Synergy, stock).
Any ideas?
Isn't there an option to change hardware key functions? I'm not on CM10 yet. I will be tonight.

I saw an option for changing the long press function and tried that, but even long pressing still doesnt work. the button is completely unreactive except for waking the screen
odd.. I tried flashing another kernel but it didnt support CM10 and wouldnt boot, so i reflashed CM10 without full wipe this time and everything works fine now.
my notification bar was also completely empty and that's fixed as well. maybe it just wasnt flashing correctly before?
either way problem solved

seems like i'm having the same problem. home button only wakes on screen off, also returns to home from notifications and recent apps ... but that's it.
Worked fine on a CM10 nightly 20121004 then flashed the 20121006 and it broke. Reflashed 20121004, and still broke.(just flashed the latest nightly, and still not luck) Tried what seems like all combinations of CM10/Nova Launcher/Trebuchet settings. Tried fixing permissions, wiping cache as well.
It randomly started working again last night, but again stopped working on a reboot.
I feel like this is possibly related; at the same time my Menu (long press) only works when I'm on the Homescreen
I have no legitimate answer to your issue, but on the galaxy players there is a variation in the us/international versions that require a home button/soft key patch built specifically into the kernel. Whether that can point someone to a solution, I don't know...

In case anyone stumbles on this thread;
I seemingly found out how to replicate this on a consistent basis. On reboot, home button will not work (except for above mentioned features)
Using the "Toggle Lock Screen" Notification Drawer Widget once or twice seems to restore complete functionality until next reboot.
I have no idea how/why, but it does seem to work for me.
