I don't think windows 8 limit the amount of things you can do.. I found that out the hard way.. Idk what to tell you but use a friends windows 7 cpu or something

Windows 8 has compatibility modes just like XP & 7 did. Also Windows 8 Pro has a virtual server built in. It's called Hyper or something like that. From within that you can install an older OS.
Also try uninstalling kies and load Samsung drivers instead.

I agree with this 110%. I spent a day reading and trying to make it work. Took me 10 minutes on windows 7. if windows 8 should update on its own or run an older version, its really a hassle just to figure out

You'll need to get android sdk for mac and use the equivilent of adb.exe.
I am in the same boat as you.... waiting... with a mac...
I've rooted it successfully using Parallels (win7) on Snow Leopard.

The main issue here is the lack of flashing tools for the mac. So far both Omnious and the Flash Tool are windows only.

I have.
If you have an Intel based mac, use Parallels (or VMware).
You might be able to get away with Qemu or bootcamping windows will work.
Just dont try to root from the desktop (virtual folder! the script wont work) but from root (C:\).
Also (maybe also on native windows) you have to connect the phone in 1 second or the script wil quit with error. Start the script, connect the phone, press any key to continue..
Btw, I did this on a normal laptop (Dell XPS m1530) running OSX SL 10.6.4 (99,9% native install), virtualizing Win7 to flash

One of those times I feel like saying "get a real computer" will fix your issue
First time i couldn't root my phone (also mac with parallels on).
I used the root files from the Bin4ry, Each time step 2 won't work.
Than reading the whole guide i saw Proyaz bunch of files with recently new firmware for x10i, an R2b020 (i think),
This time i had to try three times the root.
First time step 2 wouldnt' work, after retry of step 1 step worked. But then after step 2 i had no sudo rights?, again tried this time, in the meanwhile i was changing clothes for a party, Tada, after third time it worked flawless.
So yes, you can root from mac xD

I installed and didn't had any problem for my LG thrill. Only disadvantage was you will be with 3G speeds. I just did by checking the instructions from the website..

Anyway, i have a similar problem but that's because i am trying it on win7 64bit. In fact, there's people reporting that it works on their win7 64bit. It seems to be different no matter what OS you are using.

I have a question for you. Did you just follow the O3D instructions and did you flash baseband? I'm also curious what your experience using the leaked gingerbread roms?

change com to 41, open lg program extracted within replace .exe and run the extracted as administrator =)
And remember to remove BATTERY, SIM and SD CARD.
That's the only way I managed to make it work on Windows 7 X64.

If that doesn't work either, try using the windows XP mode. You can get it for free on Microsoft.com just Google for it. That was the only way getting it to work on my win7. Only XP seemed to recognize the OMAP drivers and installed it. After several attempts it eventually worked.

If you install every single driver with administrator privileges (aka Run as Administrator) you won't face such problems.
What baseband did you use for your Thrill. Thats where I stopped, I wasn't sure if I should use one of the Euro ones, and which.
I am on W7x64 and doing the battery out SIM out thing worked for me. PC saw it and the LG Flash Tool looked like it was going to work. I just had second thougts about the baseband.

Nexus 5 windows 8.1

Hi, I will receive my phone on Wednesday. Someone who have the phone can tell me if he can use fastboot on windows 8.1 ?
With my old xperia arc I get device failed enumeration error (no problems with windows 8, only 8.1)

I don't have the N5 yet, but fastboot works fine with my N4 on Windows 8.1. I would imagine it works fine though.
It may also be wise to update to the latest platform-tools rev.19

Ok Thanks, this is what i want to hear:laugh:
My arc S also has the same issue on 8.1, whereas my Xperia Z works fine. An issue with the arc S it seems, not a universal issue.
Using a Nexus 5 and Windows 8.1 and I can confirm that both ADB and Fastboot work with no problems.

It works fine with Windows 8.1 once you get the drivers working. I had a bit of a delay getting Windows to let me install a driver it didn't trust. I had to run some command lines, reboot and try the install again. If you run into the same problem, I can post the commands.

Im on Windows 8.1. I used the wugfresh toolkit to install the drivers. That worked fine. I like the toolkit for it because it has usbdeview built in.

I know you posted this a while ago but I would love to know what commands you used. My Nexus 5 (and now for some reason Nexus 4) have stopped being authorized devices in the ADB. I've tried everything, every driver and update I could find. I'm getting desperate now! :silly:

If something doesn't make sense to you that's doesn't mean the idea is wrong.
You are not installing driver TO A tablet. You are installing drivers to a Windows for the Windows to be able communicate with the device in ADB mode.
Win XP is a no-go. The drivers I provided in my link work with your tablet 100% when installed in Windows 7 32/64.
This is a proven fact.
So try them on a Win7 computer
Got it. I guess I'll be visiting my friends house soon I really hope the drivers work, I'll report back as soon as I can. Thanks.

Sorry to bother again, but can't seem to find anyone in town (It's summer vacation where I'm at right now). Would it work if I installed the drivers using a windows 7 virtual machine? And are there really no drivers that would be compatible with win XP?
ur answer is simple

[Q] OPO Root problem. Device not found

Hello everyone,
I've been a member since the I had my Sony Xperia X10 and Samsung Galaxy S3 and both phones were rooted using xda forums. I greatly appreciate this community and should contribute more but I'm not that advanced as most users here. I do have a little some experience tinkering around with the computer but I'm mainly a hardware type of guy and know only a little on software.
But here is my problem. I tried a few methods of trying to root my One Plus One and had little success. I came to a conclusion that it's a driver issue. When i use the command adb devices, it wouldnt show any devices. When I look in the device manager with my OPO plugged in, the drivers are missing. I tried to manually download android sdk and install from there but still no luck. I tried using the GUI toolboxes which has the adb and drivers to install. But still came out with no luck.
Can anyone assist me with my situation? When I turn on Developer Options and checked Android Debugging and USB Debugging Notify, I would not get the message to confirm and give access to the computer. I can open all folders in Windows 7 of my OPO and I use the original data cable supplied with my phone.
Thanks in advance!
Try manually installing the correct driver in device manager. Chances are that Windows is picking a matching but incompatible driver from your old device or tries to be smart.
