I have been using clockwork mod for a long time, now suddenly my recovery is called ext4 and looks completely different. Have I gone insane or what? I can't imagine that flashing a rom could also flash a new recovery... right? Thanks for any explanations...

You prolly installed it, by mistake I assume. Don't know what Rom you tried bt I know sensay comes with it, but you would actually have to click on the icon and then proceed to install it so maybe you dint know what you did?

I guess. after installing roms for 2 years you'd think I'd notice that but aparently not. Just weirded me the hell out.

ARHD comes with 4EXT.
Gesendet von meinem Sensation mit Tapatalk
Haha I had the same experience. It was ARHD. Totally weirded me out at first, but now I'm glad it happened. 4ext is seriously amazing, especially if you get the paid Recovery Control app to go with it.
Ooooohh, MAN I did not see that in the arhd op, but then again its a frickin novel. Thanks guys. What's so great about it? I don't see squat of a difference from clockwork mod.

Oh man, look deeper is much better. If you buy the app you get touch screen recovery!!!!
I'll say it again, Touch screen recovery!!!!

I was surprised by this as well. Out of nowhere, my recovery was changed because I installed ARHD. It's not something I would've done intentionally, and it seems like a weird thing to include in a ROM.
I guess it's not a huge deal since it seems to work, but Clockwork Recovery has been around a lot longer and the slightly cleaner interface of this new recovery doesn't IMHO make up for the possible decrease in reliability.
Just so you know, this recovery is based on clockwork recovery and there has been lots if testing before releasing. The developer team is very active in xda as well.

I'm not sure what version comes with the latest ARHD, but you can use the Recovery Updater app to upgrade your recovery to the touchscreen version.
Or if you feel like supporting the dev, you can get the paid Recovery Control, which lets you automate flashes and wipes before the reboot so you never have to navigate another recover menu again.

4ext is really nice. Many more features. You can charge your phone while in recovery, and it has a battery meter. Also, if you get the paid control app, you can get 4ext touch, and it has touchscreen interface while in recovery.

Most don't NEED to buy the program. Some like I would like to "pay back" the dev for making such a great app for us. Just my .02.
It's only a few bux. Less than starbucks coffee latte.
I had found the same, and honestly was a bit disturbed that it was flashed automatically. I had a wtf moment when I first saw it as I like you have always used cwm since jf 's was replaced in my g1 days and immediately flashed back cwm. After doing some research I am now, and have been for a while on ext4 and haven't had any negative impressions
G1 days? that was all about Amon-Ra recovery! wish he still made them :/, i always used his recoveries, until i got a HTC G2 and only recovery was CWM, and i always had issue with it, till this day the g2 still has Recovery issue,i respect Koush, and his hard work bring his recovery to SO many phones but after flashing 4ext and playing around with it i say i like 4ext better, already has better features, and the paid app is lot cheaper to buy than ROM manager

Lol same thing happened to me.I like the ext4 recovery..the only annoyance I found is that it doesnt mount my SD while in recovery. The option to mount is there, but it doesnt do anything. If they can fix this it will be the best recovery i've ever used.
I use 4ext works great no more using the volume and power button with the touch version seems to restore and back up faster too
wheeeeeellp I'm addicted to ext4. hated it at first, now I'm addicted.
What's the best rom?
Epic touch phone of xXHELLBoy91Xx
it depends on what you want, in my opinion newSENSE is the best (so far)
I'll second the vote for newSENSE. Supreme Sense was pretty smooth for me and the animations were nice. I've tried many ROMs but tend toward the sense varieties and nothing has been quite as snappy (IMHO) as newSENSE. Especially with the ICS theme (hint, hint, wink, wink, somebody)...

I did do a full wipe, did dalvik and everything multiple times. Even left it trying to boot for a good 20-30 minutes, it never takes that long on a first boot (or didn't before anyway lol).

Actually i may hit you up to test. Its almost ready for release. I just added a terminal emulator and a file manager (copy, move and delete). The SuperWipe allows you to select 1 to 5 times and its automated. I've gotten rid of the no,no,no,no,no,yes,no,no thats common in cwm to do anything with a simple no and yes lol. Ive added 0mb to sdcard partition so you can remove sd-ext now also when adding one, you get to select ur fs (ext2, ext3 and ext4). Added option to upgrade/downgrade existing ext fs without losing data. Ive re-organized the main screen - now theres a wipe menu for all the relevant wipes. Other stuff I forget lol.

it is errror. If i get to "on" it goes back to "off" and error.. I never see any connectionpoints etc. Its just dead

I'm on my phone now, so can't check the links, but this sounds like the non- standard panel issue. If so then use search as there is a different kernel which may work for you and a way of testing for this issue.

The issue of the none standard panel only reared its head recently, within this last month I think. Look for 77n kernel in the forum, if you have a panel issue though I'd suggest you hold off for a short time until the problem gets sorted, it will you just need patients

Indeed - I believe it is an issue with all the ICS/JB ROMs having been updated to use v3 kernel and this is where the problem has come from. Have a look at this thread as they mention the way to check which panel you have and also the 82n kernel built by Andromadus which seems to fix the problem.
The kernels won't work with the newest builds, nk111 its looking at the problem next I think.

Thou can't"fix" the problem unless you know about building roms. I suggest you wait till nk111 has a fix, its next in his list so you won't have to wait long. Just keep an eye on the thread.

Thanks everyone for your input!
I have flashed new kernels and an old CWM... neither gets rid of him (her).
My two cents: We are all here to have independence from people putting crap and bloat on our phones! We want our phones to look, smell and act the way we want them. Thanks so much to the dedicated developers and open source that we have this available to us!
I think that if i wanted an alien in a splash screen, I would put him there... BUT I don't!
So I say shame on whomever put it in there.
That is what Big Red does too!
