[Q] Homebutton doesnt work - HTC One S

Currently on Liquid rom with Bubba kernel:
My middle button is mapped as short press home, long press menu. However, I noticed that sometimes after not using my phone for a while, it changes to short press menu. The home function just disappears, regardless of long press or short press. A reboot gets it back to normal, but I'm just curious as to why this happens.
Thanks ahead of time for any feedback!

just wipe cache reflash rom and clear settings data it should fix the problem!

Been a while now and I'm currently on Rootbox (after full wiping etc). The problem still comes back from time to time. It seems that no matter how short/long you press back, home, or recent apps button, it will always be interpreted as a long press. This happens with volume rocker as well sometimes: even if I just tap it quickly, the sound will change by a lot of steps. Anyone else have this problem?

It popped up a couple of times, im on Liquid Smooth. Normally a restart solves the problem. You cleared the cache as well?

Yeah rebooting helped. Was wondering if there's someway to prevent it permanently though...

[Q] Power Button Not Working

Hi guys,
I have a little problem where my phone's power button will not function in any way, long presses, short, almost embedding my thumb in it, all to no avail. This is doubly dissapointing as I have just installed the latest dexter plus patch to fix the problem. I still had the problem on the previous version and I thought a clean start may fix it. The only way I can get the screen on is to press the media play button! Which of course isn't doing anything on dexter.
Hunches:
I have been playing with a light sensor program and using a 3 second press to turn the phone off, I am only thinking this is related as when I re-installed then turned off the phone using a battery pull, that now the media gallery button will now not work at all, so that is a change.
Second, the power button is buggered. Seems unlikely as everthing feels normal, no big drops have occurred from heights, and the button is travelling in and out as usual.
I have also noticed that as soon as I re-insert a battery that the phone starts immediately, the M pops up as if it is already posting. So maybe it is stuck down?? Again, I don't think so, as the mechanism is working per usual.
If anyone can help it would be fantastic, you guys haven't let me down yet, and this thing is purring, but unfortunately I cannot use it lol. Just my luck.
Thanks in advance
another thing, still not solved
Another thing is happening, the phone screen turns on "after" pressing the power button, it may be once or a few times, and then pressing the gallery button.?!?!
Also, at random times it plays a podcast on my phone, the exact same podcast, and from the start, though the duration may be a few seconds then repeat, or it may go for ages, its quite a rude podcast too which has caused me to throw my phone under the car seat to shut it up when people have been trying to talk to me, as you can imagine its quite embarassing.
There are no services or apps running that I can find related to music, it may happen after pressing the camera button, or opening a website.
It is still going really fast though. And I have also reinstalled the light sensor program so I can turn it on and off without causing damage to the power button.
Thanks again everyone.

please clarify
sure, so the only way I can get the screen to turn back on, after turning off as per display power saving preferences, is by pressing the power button, maybe a couple of times, then following that up by pressing the gallery button next to the shutter button, pressing the gallery button doesn't seem to be working to turn the screen on now, but this combo is.
I hope that helped.
Cheers.
EDIT:::
The gallery button alone is working again. sorry guys.
You might just want to reflash it to stock to see if this resolves the problem.
Yeah I think I may have to.
Before I do., I was reading a post on a different forum where another person was having a similar issue. They seemed to solve the problem by using rom manager to boot to a manual restore menu where there was a button tester section, after using it the power button worked for them. I tried but after resetting it displayed a triangle graphic then rebooted.
Is there any way to do this with our open recovery program or any other utility to test the functionality or maybe reset the button or apply a patch etc.
Thanks again :-D

Getting Frustrating
Alright so I followed your advice on your videos on how to reflash to stock, so of course my bootloader does not show up the same as yours on the video. I can get to the bootloader fine, using the button combo or by using quick boot > bootloader, both have the exact same result, the boot loader screens as follows:
Bootloader Fastboot mode
80.89
and that is it....
Also, my computer using rsdlite does not acknowledge the phone, not omap drivers loading etc. Followed your instructions exactly.
This is frustrating me to no end lol.
I am guessing that because I can get to the bootloader with combo no problem, that the buttons physical connections are working.. At least thats a positive.
Can I flash to stock with openrecovery? Or maybe to an earlier version of Dexters froyo? Other ideas?
Any help would be much appreciated guys, trying to use this phone at work with light sensors to turn off screen is not as easy as they say. OMG....
Thanks so much

The fastboot bootloader isn't the right one. So... if you hold volume up + camera shutter while powering on you end up in fastboot? That's really weird.
Maybe your keys have been remapped somehow? Does anyone know a chord to boot fastboot? Perhaps check to see if your USB port is clean?
Lmao
Just my luck to have a weird problem. I thought it may have been remapped so I have been trying the program buttonremap. It doesn't seem to let me do anything except stop the buttons I re assign doing anything :'(
Does anyone have a proper key mapping file that I can replace with my faulty one to hopefully fix it?
Or any other ideas?
Cheers everyone

Ok installed anyunlock it allows you to use any physical button to unlock the screen. It doesn't respond when the Power button is pressed, it responded fine to volume rockers, gallery and shutter though.
Anyone know if this would mean for sure its a physical problem before I crack it open and try and fix it.
Thanks guys.

Breakthrough!
I am pretty sure I have fixed the problem, I tapped the phone fairly hard on its sides and back, and lo and behold after a battery pull and replacement it didn't turn itself on, I waited, nothing, so then I held the power button and it started up!!!!
But....I have another problem that happened before that, I am stuck in the boot animation that open recovery uses before going into its program (i.e. where you can load nandroid, wipe dalvik cache etc).
I was about to load a new rom, and was in open recovery, had installed it and about to do the reset and the phone turned itself off, and thats when I got the problem with the sticking boot animation.
So just to be clear, I am stuck in a boot loop, but not with the M logo, the restore logo.
I hope the power button solution can help someone else, as random as it is.
If anyone could help me get out of this boot loop without flashing stock that would be great. ( i can get to the real bootloader now btw)
Thanks again everyone.
Solved it all
Just took the sd card out and rebooted. And the power is getting better after banging it.
Thanks to all.

So, is your conclusion is that the button was stuck and the banging freed it? It doesn't restick?
The Button is not perfect still. Sometimes over sensitive Occasionally it will not even work but it works most of the time. I am just wondering what cleaning solution I could use to free it some more.
It has certainly been a trying problem. Cheers for the help.
Now I need to figure out why I have this strange ghosting on the top of my screen.....

Samsung Galaxy S2 Power Button Not Working
Hi Guys,
Any solution for the power button problem? Current latest Android 2.3.3 Samsung Galaxy S2 also having the same power button problem. Most of the time I can't use my power button to turn on/off the screen (wake/sleep) and there's no menu for long tap as well. Luckily it does wake when i press the only physical Samsung center button.
What i have already tried: Factory Reset, disable Power Saving Mode, Spare Part+ (apps), Screen Off and Lock (apps), and all won't help.
Is there any current updates or patches to allow the power button to work as usual?
Thank you.
take it to the samsung technical centre

[Q] evo 4g disable button? stuck on hboot

I have a evo which I had rooted and left everything stock on.Suddenly the down volume button wants to engage at any given time and for extended periods of time...in call, while on home screen, when the screens off...doesnt matter engages volume down and doesnt stop..
So I thought maybe unrevoked wasnt installed so clean, since this happened the first time soon after rooting.I hoped totally wiping the phone(caulkins) would fix this button issue, which is HELL in the bootloader....AFter a full wipe and stable cyanogen7 all seemed well! the problem was gone...So I figured cool, must been some software issue. Now its back a week later,I walkd in room to see screen on battery drained and phone just vibrating away.
So I switched to armons recovery, wiped dalviks and caches...no luck so I decided I would remap the key.I got a remapping app and it didnt have a way to DISABLE the key only remapp it to another function.Needless to say any such function being pushed 100 times a minute isnt much a fix.I tried a volume blocker app which just popped up every ten seconds asking if i confirm the volume change....
I am debating on opening the phone up and seeing if its a physically stuck key...However due to the fact that I can make it happen by turning screen off then on to me says its not an actual hardware button issue...
I have an evo I use for cellular service...which I dont much mess with, this one is wifi only and running cyanogen7 and latest godmode kernel...its weird how it worked great for a week never a problem and now Im stuck in a scrolling out of control bootloader...because when i powered off lol the down button engaged while turning back on....very frustrating...
Can I DISABLE this key?
I have the same exact problem. My phone boots to HBOOT but I can't push the volume buttons to select nor can I push the power button. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Power Button Issue

I have been having odd power button issues since updating to 2.3.4. It is almost like it is getting stuck or something.
Sometimes when I hit the power button to turn off the screen, the screen goes off for half a second then comes back on. This also happens when going from off to on (i.e. flicker on then back off), but it seems rarer.
Sometimes when I hit the home button (and just the home button), it takes a screenshot like I am hitting the button as well even though I am not.
All of this is fixed by just hitting the power button a few times.
Needless to say it is annoying. I thought it might be something mechanical, but I took the case off the back and the issue still occurred. It also seems like the button is clicking then unclicking (i.e. not getting stuck). I had no issues prior to updating to 2.3.4.
Anyone else had this happen or know a fix or workaround?
Yes! I have the same exact problem after the update!!
Glad to see I'm not the only one.
It's very annoying.
My backlight turns on by itself randomly and often if you press the power button to turn the screen off, it goes off then comes back on or flickers on and off. The power button doesnt always turn the screen back on either.
It also gets stuck where I press the home screen and it keeps taking pictures.
HTC better fix this!

I have the exact same problem too since upgrading! I have disabled the screenshot function in build.prop but that only stops the repeated screenshots part of the problem. The main problem with the power button still persists.
I'm having this too, its come and gone to different extents - pretty sure it was happening a bit before the update though.
I'm worried it is mechanical, I couldn't get it to happen with the back cover off but it could have just been coincidence. I can live with having to press the button again every so often but the screenshot thing annoys the hell out of me!
Since the update I've experienced an issue with my power button as well. Sometimes when I hit the button to turn the screen on, nothing happens. At first I thought it was just me but it happens at least a couple of times a day and never happened before the update.
I don't normally turn my screen off by pressing the power button so I can't report on that. Guess I should count my blessing that the screen shot function is not acting up.
Thanks for posting cause was beginning to think it was just me.
FIX!
I found a fix for this, in your build.prop remove the framework line for screen shots and then go in recovery and whipe cache partition twice as well as dalvic twice!
Cheers!

I was having the same problem with the power button and was thinking it was hardware thanks for the heads up..
am I like the only one without this problem >.< lol. lucky me
I have this same problem too, I believe its connected to the screenshots but i don't know how to turn it off easily (how do I get into build prop?)
This is definitely after the update, I had absolutely no problems with the power button prior to the update.
I don't have any power button isues at all on my European Sensation (2.3.4 still S-On yet). Playing around it just for a week. But the Screenshot thing is a feature not a bug!
Just press <power button> + <Home> to take a screenshot. I like it.
I just starting having this issue yesterday too. Thought it was my power button getting stuck but good to see it's not a hardware problem and hopefully HTC fixes this.

I think you're right. As a test, I used AntTek App Manager to freeze "Scribble" which is also known as com.htc.mysketcher and I haven't had the issue yet. I believe this component is responsible for monitoring for the key combo for taking screenshots. Certainly, after freezing it, the Power+Home combo no longer works for taking screenshots.

I have just tried this but I still have the issue. Sometimes the power button won't wake up the screen and sometimes when I power off the screen it only stays off for a second and then lights up again.
I have this issue too, but I don't think it is software related problem.
It is, as the phone sometimes recognize a power button click as 2 clicks (screen goes off and on).
To see what I mean, go to Recovery and try to navigate through menus - when you're clicking power to enter any menu, sometimes you jump back, as if you were clicking "Go back"...
So, if the issue is even in Recovery mode, so it is not software related. I even restored my stock 2.3.3. soft and the issue is still there. I think it's a mechanical defect

The strange thing is, I even downgraded to 2.3.3 and I still have the problem. I have even flashed stock HBOOT and Recovery but the problem remains. I just don't understand it because it certainly wasn't happening before I upgraded.
Add one more person to the screenshot-club. Haven't had any other problems, but sometimes the phone just keeps taking screenshots when I'm pressing the home key. Extremely annoying, but luckily this is usually solved by tapping the power button. Ofc afterwards you have to clean your gallery of useless pictures... Argh!

Sensation ICS bugs & issues.

A couple of weeks ago, I installed the ICS update on my sensation.
Initially I was impressed, nice look, New features and so on.
Now I'm really starting to regret performing the update. So far I have found the following issues.
1. On boot the "Upgrading Android... Optimizing applications" message appears every time
2. eBay app forgets login details & settings
3. Internet browser is slow, zooming & panning is choppy and random browser shutdowns
4. "Process system is not responding" error message often shows after booting
5. Ringtones & notifications keep returning to default
6. Backlight becoming stuck at max, this still occurs with log graph brightness tool
7. Battery life is considerably worse than before, I'm now lucky to get a through an 8 hour day with the phone just idling in my pocket plus the occasional call or email.
8. Sometimes phone will just shut down when battery charge is around 50%, will not fully restart, when plugging in to charger and booting battery level is 2-5%, this often happens when launching Draw Something & sometimes just web browsing.
As you can imagine this is somewhat annoying. Having owned HTC phones for a long time, having had bad experiences with a touch pro2, I started to loose faith in HTC, then I got the sensation, it was brilliant, now since installing ICS I'm beginning to loose faith again.
Anyone know what I might be able to do to sort this out?
My handset is for the Asian market and I'm on orange UK, it has the stock Rom & has never been rooted or anything else like that.

My mate had exactly the same issues. I advised him to do a factory reset which he reports has resolved all the issues.
I advise you try the same.
Thanks, today the phone became almost unusable unless plugged in to the charger so I called HTC support, they advised the same, which didn't fix it, so I called again and was advised to clear the cache partition. It seems to be fine now, although the browser performance is still a bit poor.

Ok its been a while since the problem first happened & I should probably have posted my findings. I found the problem to be caused by using cheap aftermarket batteries from eBay, on switching back to the genuine HTC battery the problem seems to have been completely solved.
I've since tried to use the aftermarket battery & it started dropping out again.

The reboot issue may be solved by sliding a piece of paper between the top of the battery an phone. It's a loose connection issue. Aftermarket batteries tend not to fit as well. There are guides as to how to do it. I can't link them as I'm on my phone. That *should* solve reboot issues.

Home button+vol down=reboot?

I don't know if I discovered a new thing or this is already a feature but, here it is.
Since I first time using this phone about early 2012, sometimes, my phone reboots itself when I take it out of my pocket. Sometimes, it reboots while in my pocket.
Today, I was facebooking in landscape mode(for the first time, cuz i hate landscape mode), I accidently pressed the home key+volume down and it reboots!(Using CM10a3) Tried it again and the phone reboot again.
The question is, is pressing both keys are a shortcut to reboot or its a phone failure and is it exist in stock rom or cm only?
If you can try, please reply with your rom. Especially if you have explanation to this.
Sent by my Galaxy $
First, check my signature for my phone setup.
Secondly, I just tried home button+vol down(in landscape mode), no reboots.
FYI, The only shortcut which I know for reboot is power button+home button.
Did you overclock ur phone?
Sorry, cat see your sig cuz im on mobile.
OC? Yeah. Revolution Kernel. 300-1200. SmartassV2 governor.
Sent by my Galaxy $
Tried it again just now with 300-1000 conservative, the default one but still reboots when pressed both at the same time. I don't hold one of the button and press another. I pressed them both at the same time.
My phone have exactly the same Rom, governor, clock speed and mods as yours in your sig.(exept task manager mod)

This random reboot happened since you first use the phone? even without flashing or modding?
I just confirmed that it works. I'm on cm10 a4. It DOES reboot when you press volume down+home button. I'm not overclocked.

Yes but its not random actually. After that day those reboots happen,(the early 2012) no reboots ever happen. I think maybe i accidentally pressed the keys by mistake that time. I was riding motorcycle in long range. thats when it happen. The next day and forth, no more reboots. It happens when i press both keys.

This is old trick, even in stock rom.
Yes this is reboot short cut.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, it's a shortcut for reboot.
But need to press and hold home button first before pressing vol down button.
No wonder why it didn't reboot just now.
Thought that I can mess up with the sequence.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda app-developers app
It's a key combo to force a crash, a kernel feature.
This should be what does it if I'm not wrong (it's not happening to me and I unset SAMSUNG_KERNEL_DEBUG_USER in my kernel)
EDIT:
Good or bad you might ask. I don't know, I didn't like it and disabled it. Surely it's not a normal reboot.
And yes, you need to build a new kernel to disable it.
