This has nothing to do with Terminal Emulator, it's working fine ->
adb stands for android debug bridge, it's meant to be a way to do stuff with your android device from your computer over the "bridge" that is USB. It says "waiting for device" because it needs a USB android device to be connected. As far as I know, even with OTG you can't use adb actually on an android device itself with Terminal Emulator. If all you want to do is uninstall an app, you shouldn't need adb anyway.

Unfortunately, this isn't working for me - still no play store, but there's an entry for com.android.vending in Manage Apps with a grey icon (generic app icon with a little SD card in the bottom right corner) and a size of 0.00b. Anyone know what I missed?

Try run the following in Terminal Emulator:
Code:
pm uninstall com.android.vending
* You must find out the vending apk and delete it first (If the apk exists and is a system app).

As mentioned by @HTCDreamOn, adb is for you to run commands from Windows and since you are working with Terminal Emulator you do not need to deal with adb related command.
Also mentioned earlier that you MUST manually delete the apk first before you can uninstall the app if it is a system app.
To do that first find out where the vending apk located. assumed that you have busybox/grep installed, run the following in Terminal Emulator:
pm list packages -f | grep vending
You should get something like this:
package:/system/app/vending.apk=com.android.vending
Click to collapse
* Actual filename & path may vary depending on device
Now that you know where the apk is, eg: /system, mount the /system rw and delete the vending.apk manually.
Then you can proceed to uninstall using the following command:
pm uninstall com.android.vending
Success
Thx!
I dont want to make new thread so my another question is why i cant go to ini.d folder when its exists?
Look at my screenshot

Some of you are familiar with the adb install command.
Is there an equivalent of it in the terminal emulator?
Hi,
Adb is used from the computer and terminal emulator is used from the phone.
What are you trying to do?
I'm trying to install an app without using astro.
your best choise would be
cd to the location of the apk file and use
adb install appname.apk
or adb install C:\folder\appname.apk
think thats the correct way im not sure how you can install it in the terminal i knwowho to remove it.. but not install :/
Install .apk via Terminal EMulator
1) Place the .apk on the root of your SD card (for simplicity)
2) Type "su"
3) cd into the destination of your .apk (in this case it will be cd /sdcard)
4) Use "install "name of .apk" /"destination"/"name of .apk"
su
cd /sdcard
install com.makemobile.coursepro.apk /system/app/com.makemobile.coursepro.apk
further example:
install "space" com.makemobile.coursepro.apk "space" /system/app/com.makemobile.coursepro.apk
This will install the app on your phone using the Terminal Emulator. The destination location can change as well.
Additional help: http://www.busybox.net/downloads/BusyBox.html
On the flip side, could you uninstall from the ext2 partition this way?
install on/from ext2
not sure...I'll looks into this. I had my apps and data on my sd however, it seemed a little buggy and inconsistant. It may have been due to using original G1 1gb class 2 card.
-let me know if you find out first.

cd is a command, meaning "change directory". Which is used to move your location on the system.

it depends on what the app is
your best bet would be to get an app called 'Astro file manager' from the market
Its quite easy, so I won't go into further detail
Which to be honest is a fair trade

Some people have mentioned the `install' command from BusyBox, but this won't quite do what you probably want. To invoke the full Android package installation experience--the complete equivalent of `adb install'--you're looking for `pm install'. It takes the same arguments that `adb install' does, checks signatures, creates the appropriate user accounts, etc. so the package is installed the Android way. You can also use `pm uninstall' to remove a package (and as with `adb install', the "-k" option keeps its data around).
The `am' and `pm' commands are both underdocumented, but can be terribly useful. `am' can issue arbitrary Intents, including some Extra values. `pm' has other features not mentioned here, but which are shown in the help text.

'pm install' often fails with [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE]
which used to frustrate me no end ..
simple shell script
Code:
am start -a android.intent.action.VIEW -t application/vnd.android.package-archive -d file://$1
just pass the full path e.g
sh /sdcard/installapk.sh /sdcard/theapp.apk
and it pops up the Android Package installer

Interesting. I wonder if that's related to A2SD or a particular implementation, and pm getting confused as a result? Still, I like the idea of sending the VIEW intent to bring up the package installer. Good snippet.
I just cp the files to /system/sd/app/
from Windows Command prompt, and after switching to the folder containing the .apk file, type:
adb install filename.apk
if it is a reinstall:
adb install -r filename.apk
you could also push the file to the app folder. I use this method to push system apk:
adb remount <<<< you have to remount since you're going to mess with a sys folder
adb push filename.apk /system/app
seriously useful thread... especially after for some weird reason certain apps fail to install using the default Android installer. *cough* Radiant *cough*

I'm sure i'm not the only one that has noticed that you can't update terminal emulator with modded firmware, i did a mild look through the searches, and didn't find what i was looking for, is there a means to update this, i've tried takeing it out of white list and then updating, but no go... Not that its a big deal TE works, its just an annoying knawing thing in the back of my mind, knowing there is an update on the market, and i can't have it

It'd probably be best to use adb.exe (available in the android SDK) to remove terminal emulator rather than using terminal emulator.
Also, in order to change anything in the /system partition, you need to remount it as read/write.
With adb this is easy:
Make sure your android has debug mode enabled (which I think is by default in all JF releases)
Hook it up to your computer with the USB cable
Open up a command prompt in windows (or whatever other OS you're using that has the Android SDK) and go to the tools directory in the SDK
Type "adb devices" to make sure adb sees your phone, if it doesn't, well uh...it's not working right, and you'll have to figure out why
Type "adb remount" to remount the /system partition as read-write
Type "adb shell" this will give you shell access to your G1, from there you can delete stuff from the /system partition. I think you might also be able to use "adb uninstall" but I don't know if that works for the /system/app folder.
thanks for the info TM will play with the sdk tools and see what i can do, they have been giving me a headache on linux, but then i haven't played with linux in about 6 years.. its come along way. Thanks again for the info wait 2 secs to reload the image
I've noticed that, too. I don't see a reason why I need to update TE, the one I have works just fine.
here your answer in the link below
this will allow you to remove the terminal and install the new one from market

Hi all.
Everyone here on our forum wants to help devs by testing different stuff but devs wants testers to send debug info to them so they can resolve bugs. Notifying bugs without logcats is useless and some users don't know how to collect these debug data.
To collect debug info there is a tool named ADB (Android Debugging Bridge). we r very small community and there are not plenty of sgr users around here so we have to worry about knowledgeable testers. so i m making this basic instructional guide to ADB. about how to set up ADB on windows and some basic usage.
Setting up ADB on windows.
Know this first.
> ADB requires usb drivers. So first of all install kies so that ur pc detects ur phone and ADB can recognise ur phone.
> Android is linux based and in linux commands are case sensitive so while typing these command use propare case otherwise commands won't execute.
> Windows uses back slash [\] and linux uses forward slash [/] so while typing file locations. For location of file in ur pc use back slash and for files in ur phone/sd card use forward slash.
there are two ways to setup adb on ur windows pc.
1 > download the android sdk, it includes the adb
u can download latest android sdk from HERE.
2 > only download adb package, no need of downloading the whole sdk.
look at the end of post to find the zip file of adb package.
now after downloading:
if u have downloaded sdk read this:
> after downloading sdk, extract it to ur desired location.
> after extracting, open that folder and goto "platform-tools" folder.
> now hold the shift key and hit right click in that directory
> click "open command window here"
> u will see command promp, type "adb" in command prompt. if adb executes means u have successfully setup adb on ur windows.
if u r using without sdk:
> just extract the package
> hold shift key, hit right click and choose "open command prompt here"
> type "abd" in command prompt and check if adb executes.
now as we have successfully setup adb lets begin to some basic commands.
first of all connect ur phone using usb cable. make sure u have checked usb debugging in settings>applications>development>check usb debugging.
now open adb as mentioned above and type
Code:
adb devices
u should see
Code:
list of attached devices
xyz device
xyz will be name of ur device, as default it will be some number.
Basic usefull ADB commands
1.
Code:
adb pull
this command can be used copy files from ur device to ur pc.
for eg.
Code:
adb pull /system/app/Camera.apk
this will copy the camera app to the directory where adb is extracted.
if u know the path u can copy anything using this command.
2.
Code:
adb push
this command can be used to push files to ur phone.
type the command, drag and drop the file in command prompt and than type location where u want to push that file and hit enter.
for eg, if i want to push image named android.jpg stored in my C drive.
Code:
adb push C:\android.jpg /sdcard/
this will push that image to sdcard.
sometimes we have to push some packages in specified folders. just type the location after file name.
for eg
Code:
abd push C:\sanim.zip /system/media
3.
Code:
adb install
with help of this command we can install apps to our phone dorectly from pc.
for eg. type "adb install" than leave one space with mouse choose apk file of app u want to install and drag and drop it in command prompt. path of that app will be displayed in command prompt. like this.
Code:
adb install C:\adb\Camera.apk
by executing this command u can install the app u have dragged and dropped in command prompt.
As i have written for windows but these commands can be used on ADB on linux/MacOS as well but i have only mentioned the set-up guide for windows only.

Getting Debug Infos (Logcats)
1. logcat
logcat is a report from android logging system which runs in background from the moment u boot ur phone. and it haves all the info what went wrong with system.
generally we can see logcat by typing
Code:
adb logcat
but that will show the constant data flow so better save it as file so can be sent to dev or u can study it later.
Code:
adb logcat > log.txt
this will store the logcat to directory of adb and collect log in text file.
2. bugreport
Code:
adb bugreport
bug report prints dumpsys, dumpstate, and logcat data to the screen. which can be used for bug reporting.
3. Java Debug Wire Protocol
Code:
adb jdwp
this command prints the list of available JDWP processes on connected device in command prompt.
Logcats On Mobileu can directly generate logcat on ur mobile using Terminal Emulator app, there are many terminal apps in market. CM comes with pre-loaded Terminal Emulator.
some terminal apps:
Android Terminal
Terminal Emulator
RomToolbox
u will need root access to generate logs
open terminal app, u will see following screen
Code:
$ export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH
$
now type su and hit enter.
allow super user permissions.
now to get a logcat type following command.
Code:
logcat > /mnt/sdcard/logcat.txt
this will generate text file named logcat.txt on root of ur sdcard which is containing logcat.
to get DMESG (Kernel Debug)
open terminal and type following command
Code:
su
dmesg > /mnt/sdcard/dmesg.txt
this will generate text file named dmesg.txt on root of ur sdcard which is containing kernel debug log.
Kernel Debugging.
we can use adb to debug kernel issues.
Code:
adb shell
dmesg
this will generate a log which is very helpful to resolve kernel issues, we just have to send this log to dev, he will look after it.
sometimes after flashing kernel we go into bootloop in that cases generate logcat using this commands and send to dev it will be very helpfull for dev to know and resolve reason causing bootloop.
Code:
adb shell
cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg
this command should be executed immediately on reboot otherwise it will be over written by new kernel message. the file will be stored on root of ur sdcard named last_kmsg. send this file to kernel dev it will help him great to resolve the problem.
Read this if u dont know how to get files from ur sdcard even if ur phone is not booting and stuck at bootloop.
u must have CWM to do this.
>boot ur phone in recovery mode (by holding VOL UP and HOME key together on boot)
>goto "Mounts and Storage"
>Select "Mount USB Storage" and plug in your data cable.
>Now u can access ur sdcard on ur pc, after ur work is done click "Unmount"

I think I might have found the issue. I think I forgot to copy the 'su' executable from /sdcard to /system/xbin. I've copied the correct 'su' executable to /system/xbin now. I'll have to test it later, I'm connected remotely at the moment so I can only do the shell stuff, I can't run Superuser.
What is the difference between the nativesu and the su copied from the attachment on this thread. There is a significant difference in size. Is the native su crippled in someway?

Please send a log to the error to the developer" and no matter what i tried it wouldn't work, so i just downloaded the OUYA toolbox test version and it took me less then 1 minutes to have superuser apk and busybox apk running and rooted, i didn't know you were connected remotely, i had mines connected straight up with the usb cable and it makes it easier for me..."What is the difference between the nativesu and the su copied from the attachment on this thread. There is a significant difference in size. Is the native su crippled in someway?" <----yes, i'm 90% sure that the native SU is crippled in some type of way, and i've heard other people confirm this.

Yep. That was the problem. I guess I thought I'd copied the correct version of 'su' across without checking properly.

Sweet!!...glad you got it fixed... I knew that the native SU was crippled the first time i tried it...that's why i tried the OUYA toolbox cause i knew people had success with SU on that toolbox, so i gave it a try and SU was workin...tha's how i knew something was wrong with the native SU...
I turned off Auto download on WiFi, but I'm not confident it will stop update to Oreo.
Anyone know if/what I need to do to prevent the update?
I found in Developer Options an auto system update option that I turned off but it still updated. Dammit!
No help from anyone here either. Maybe it can't be prevented.
I have deactivated network access for the app „System Update“ and deactivated the search for updates from within the update app.
Seems to work.
I'll keep that in mind if it happens again.
Update on turning off updates in Developer options: I have since found this to be what happens after turning off auto update in dev options:
It downloads the update
It puts a notice up that it has upgraded and I need to boot (that was when I posted about it still updating)
But turns out it does not actually perform the update.
It is a bit annoying. I get that notice and it remains in the notifications, even though I have gone in and turned off that notification. As long as it doesn't update, I guess I can live with it.
As it's already downloaded, I'd say your options won't help me at this point.
To get rid oft the notification, open Settings » Apps and delete data an cache oft the Systemupdate app. Then continue restricting its network access ( all three options) and notifications. To be sure, disable its ability to change system settings.

I presume I disable network access under networked apps menu. The only access listed there is mobile. I would think it could still get there when hooked to Wi-Fi.
Do not see an app called update for which to disable search. But I have applied all of your other suggestions, and appreciate your help.
without root : adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.hwouc
Done !
I was surprised...just got another prompt to update. Wanted access to photos. I denied and cancelled. I haven't had that particular promo for a while. I bet outs prompting now because I deleted the download. Although I have auto update turned off in developer options.
use my command and you'll never get this update again

Ok. Thanks. I'll have to get the appropriate stuff installed on the PC to do that. Since moving to this phone from Samsungs, I've not used any of that stuff, or done any rooting (I do miss root a bit).

So I have just finished a fresh reload of the original ROM, and now want to trh the command you listed
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.hwouc

But I can't get ADB to recognize the phone. I have USB Debugging turned on. I have Hisuite able to see it. But ADB does not see it.
When I search Google for how to do ADB on the Mate 9, I keep getting led to info about installing fastboot. When I go to the Huwaei site to download the fastboot / adb stuff, the site freezes.
Any suggestions?

I don't know what was going on. AFter posting, I was chasing USB drivers. But I was having problems finding them to download too. I tried it again though, and it is now working. Not sure what was going on.
Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.huawei.android.hwouc
For me it's better to disable/enable this app:
adb shell pm disable-user com.huawei.android.hwouc
adb shell pm enable --user 0 com.huawei.android.hwouc

To disable System Update, use:
adb shell pm disable-user com.huawei.android.hwouc
If you ever want to enable it back, simply go to Settings, Apps, check to show System apps and services, scroll to System Update and Enable

So I did a list of the command parameters, and do not even see anywhere that -existing would be used.
Can someone please provide me correct command to re-install the com.huawei.android.hwouc?

Correct re-install command is as in the Post #15:
Code:
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.huawei.android.hwouc

and attachments (batch script - rename to bat, and screenshot from PC)
Code:
ECHO OFF
CLS
adb wait-for-device devices
PAUSE
ECHO List packages
adb shell pm list packages
PAUSE
ECHO Disable System Update
adb shell pm disable-user com.huawei.android.hwouc
PAUSE
ECHO List disabled packages
adb shell pm list packages -d
PAUSE
ECHO Re-enable System Update
adb shell pm enable com.huawei.android.hwouc
PAUSE
ECHO Uninstall System Update
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.hwouc
PAUSE
ECHO Re-install System Update
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.huawei.android.hwouc
PAUSE
Make sure to have ADB USB debugging enabled in Development menu. PC must be granted for debugging (from the phone side).
Ofc, drivers, etc must be installed to the PC - Minimal ADB and Fastboot package (search on XDA) will do
Problem is, I have already run the delete cmd from earlier in the thread (a reply to my original post here.) Now I need to reinstall. The post I quoted supposedly is how to do that, but I'm getting the errors noted. Going forward I will do it per your suggestion.
Hoping someone can give me correct syntax to revive the update functionality.

There is no ADB delete cmd - could you be precise and quote exactly the command you originally used?
And the ROGHT commands for ADB re-enabling and re-installing are e.g in my previous post, there are no other 'correct syntax' commands (Google search is also your friend)
If your ADB does not recognize
adb shell cmd package install-existing ...
then something is wrong with your ADB installation on PC or settings on the phone.
Follow the first link in my previous answer and set/install ADB exactly as described in the XDA article
Ofc, if you rooted the phone and you really DELETED hwouc, then you can not reinstall by ADB - but then ADB would not complain that it did not recognize the command but would complain that package did not exist
