Or you could rename this thread to 'How to flash RUU zip for X920D'

Does this include stock recovery?

So why do we have 2 threads .. ?? Just confused
Also when I tried fixing the zip, I didnt see any boot image in it.. can someone who has restored confirm that their kernel also actually reverted ?

you dont have to fix the zip file. let the internal RUU flash everything for you including the boot image. as i said never try to fix the zip file even though it saying its corrupted. only RUU will can open the zip file properly. this guide is a step by step procedure. alright? i confirm that this is working. this where the steps i used to revert my butterfly back to stock.

Agreed on that , whats baffling me is that boot image doesnt come up in the zip listing at all ... anyways, I am not in need of this , was just clarifying for others

Yes this will revert your butterfly back to stock. and relock your bootloader

I guess this is a sort of side question, but is this the latest current software available for the X920D or is there an OTA available?
EDIT: Also what languages are available in this RUU?

Found solution for this......
Need to relock back the bootloader
1.) On bootloader, type "fastboot oem lock" (I got the message mentioned locked successful or something but end of the process FAILED)
2.) Just don't bother bout the message, ur phone may restarted now.
3.) Boot back to Bootloader (Hold Power + Vol Down)
4.) Follow back all the steps as mentioned on the thread.
Hope this help

Your bootloader is still unlocked. You didn't relock your bootloader. Relock your bootloader using this command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock

[GUIDE] Get Stock Recovery/Install OTA Updates without losing data.

Installing OTA updates while having Custom Recovery (ex. ClockWork mod) is not possible. You need Stock Recovery to install the OTA update.
I'll be showing you how to install Stock Recovery, and how to get back to ClockWork mod, without the need of flashing a total new stock ROM (RUU).
Please read this very well before starting:
* I'm not responsible about anything that may happen to your device, please don't follow this guide if you don't know exactly what you're doing.
* This guide is for Windows users only. If you can get the official "recovery.img" or "recovery_signed.img" from somewhere else, then you can follow the guide (b) and start from step 5.
* If you're on Custom ROM, this will not work for you. Go flash an RUU instead.
* Please download the OTA update zip file before starting.
* If you deleted any system apps before, doing an OTA update will probably fail with Status 7. In this case, you'll have to restore the deleted apps as they were. If it still doesn't help, you'll have to flash an RUU and then do the OTA update.
* After flashing the OTA, you'll need to run Revolutionary to install custom hboot giving you permissions to flash recoveries and other things through fastboot. (IT IS A MUST IF YOU WANT TO USE "Android Recovery Manager" to flash ClockWorkMod after updating)

To start, you can either follow guide "a" or guide "b". Following guide "a" is easier, safer and faster, I personally recommend it.
(a)
Getting stock Recovery using Android Recovery Manager1. Download Android Recovery Manager.
2. Open the application.
3. Click on Start!.
4. Click on Download a recovery
5. Select your Software Version from the list.
6. The application will tell you what to do next.
7. When the application finishes flashing, press <No> which will reboot into recovery.
Installing OTA Update8. When you see the (!) hold <Power> button and Press Volume UP. (If this doesn't work Press Volume UP then <Power> button)
9. Go to "Apply update from sdcard" and press <Power> button.
10. Choose your "update.zip" and press <Power> button.
Click to collapse
(b)
Getting stock Recovery manuallyDownload your stock RUU from here or here.
If you don't have adb, please follow from step 1 to 3 in Step 4 in this thread.
1. Once you downloaded RUU open it and wait until you get to the "View Readme" page where there is the picture of an HTC device.
2. Go to your temp folder (Generally on Win 7 it's in "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp")
3. Look manually for folders that have lots of characters in that format: "{XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXX}".
4. One of them should have another folder in it and 2 files, this folder should be in that same format "{XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXX} too.
5. There should be in that folder something named "rom.zip" or "firmware.zip", open it up, and extract the "recovery_signed.img" or "recovery.img" to your ADB folder which is usually in C:\adb
6. Go to C:\adb and make sure that "recovery_signed.img" file is there. If not, repeat step 5.
7. Open command prompt (Press the start Logo on your keyboard + R, then write cmd and press enter) and type "cd C:\adb" {without quotes}
8. Ensure your phone is switched on (regular home screen) and connect it by USB in charging mode (Ensure USB Debugging is On by going on your phone to Settings -> Applications -> Development and Check USB Debugging).
9. Enter the command "adb devices". This is to confirm your phone is connected. (It should come back with list of devices attached and your serial number)
10. Enter this command "adb reboot bootloader" and wait until it reads on your phone fasboot USB.
11. Then enter this command "fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img" or "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" depending on the name of the .img you extracted and wait.
12. Enter this command "fastboot reboot-bootloader"
You should have something similar to this.
Installing OTA Update13. After doing step 12, you'll be on fastboot and have BOOTLOADER highlighted. Press on <Power> Button.
14. Press Volume Down, and highlight RECOVERY, then click <Power> button.
15. When you see the (!) hold <Power> button and Press Volume UP. (If this doesn't work Press Volume UP then <Power> button)
16. Go to "Apply update from sdcard" and press <Power> button.
17. Choose your "update.zip" and press <Power> button.

Run revolutionary and then ClockWorkMod can be installed using ARM (Android Recovery Manager), just choose ClockWorkMod x.x.x.x from the download page and click "Download and Flash".
Hope it helped

I suggest using WinRAR. Don't use update.zip, this was not designed for that.
Just use winrar to extract the file, and then follow the guide.
Probably because it's in use. Copy and paste the zip file to another folder and then extract that copy.
I only took rom.zip and renamed it PG58IMG.ZIP and put it on sd-card then restarted phone in vol down + power.
I was on rom 1.45 but wanted to go back to rom 1.35 and this worked for me

Yea, it should work. But you got the stock ROM and lost root.

I've tried this a few separate ways. I have followed your steps to the T. All I get when I restart is a disc logo with the sync image. Then I get a picture of htc phone with a red triangle and !. I BELIEVE it's looking for PG58IMG.. and not finding it at which point it gets confused. I'm on stock rom- S-Off using revolutionary method. Any ideas?
I think your OS might be corrupt... Have you tried restoring your old ROM with the revolutionary recovery...?

Did you have this problem before following the guide? I believe there's a problsm in you OS as vslnweb said.
You may flash an RUU, and I believe everything will be okay.
Or, if you're not able to get into recovery, you may flash the ClockWork mod to your device and perform a nandroid restore.
Extract the recovery.img from the PG58IMG.zip to your adb folder and follow the steps in the thread, just instead of writing "fastboot recovery flash recovery_signed.img" write "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img".
You'll be on clockworld mod again.
Edit: I re-read your post, are you getting this red ! when you get in recovery? Just a question, what are you trying to do? If you already have the OTA update, go into recovery and press vol.up and power, it'll show you an option to install an update from sd card.

I do not recommend using terminal but you can try this at your own risk.. I just got some commands, which seemed logic to me and ended up with those:
Code:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery_signed.img
reboot recovery
As you said you are rooted so, this may work for you I believe?
Just make sure you added the right recovery_signed.img to the main folder of your sd-card

Yes you need to update your boot loader. Download the RUU from HTCDev. run the ruu and check for the rom.zip file in temp folder. rename the rom.zip to PH06IMG.zip and update the zip file through bootloader(power + volume key method). Then your bootloader will be updated. Revert if any errors.
Dont use the patch, try the official version. It will work.
Hi hrishikol ,
i did a deodex to my phone app and now the chacha is stuck at the HTC logo,
can you please give me ideas on how to solve this problem?
i have installed CWM,in order to flush a ROM ,
but it is not functioning properly
The Guides above are incomplete ( missing a few steps ) and will result in boot loop most of the time. the correct procedure is :
Part 1 : Setting up Fastboot.
1. Make sure you have java installed, if not get it from here : http://java.com/ and install it.
2. Download the Android SDK manager from here : http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html ( get the exe download )
3. Install SDK manager, then run the android SDK manager.
4. Once launched it will show you available updates, choose ONLY these two "Android SDK Platform Tools and Android SDK Tools" and update them.
5. After update is complete close the sdk manager and go to the SDK manager platform-tools folder, normal path is : ( C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools )
6. Copy the following 3 files from this folder : "adb.exe" , "AdbWinApi.dll" and "fastboot.exe"
7. go to your c drive ( c:\ ) and make a new directory called "fastboottools"
8. copy the 3 files above into your fastboottools folder.
9. so now your should have a folder like this : "c:\Fastboottools" with the following 3 files in it "adb.exe" , "AdbWinApi.dll" and "fastboot.exe".

2. Extract and copy the system.img AND boot.img to the same directory as your fastboot tools "C:/fastboottools" ( make sure to copy both files )
3. Enter the fastboot mode on your phone by pressing volume down + power button after the device has been turned off.
4. Choose fastboot on the phone by pressing power button, and then connect your phone to your PC
5. Using fastboot tools, open the Command prompt and navigate to "C:\fastboottools" then run this command on cmd: "fastboot flash system system.img"
6. Dont reboot, Using fastboot tools, run this command on cmd: "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
( The two commands in step 5 and 6 are different, make sure to type each one correctly and to do them straight after each other )
7. Reboot phone. let it boot up, you will still get bootloop or error message.
8. Take out the battery.

Stock Rogers Ruu...anyone have it?

Anyone know where to get a stock Rogers RUU. I need the .exe file to get myself up and running again.
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27882810#post27882810
Finally got it working...the above linkis what worked. Here is the summary...
I was having this same problem and it took a while before I could get it to work. Try opening a command window in the same location of your adb tools.
First, make sure you're in fastboot mode, then type 'fastboot oem rebootRUU'
Next, make sure you have the .zip RUU file in the same folder and type 'fastboot flash zip XXX.zip' (replace XXX with whatever it's called, of course)
Now, you can see what is actually happening when you are flashing the RUU. In my case, there was 2 points where it told me to "re-flush image immediately" or something like that. When I ran the last command again (fastboot flash zip XXX.zip) it went a bit further each try, but it took until the 3rd try before it was successful.
Hopefully this helps you out!
I'm stock right now (rooted) , but the updates keep failing, so i want to reflash stock rom.
I'm lost as to how to do this.
I downloaded ARUwizard and the stock rogers rom (PJ83IMG) but its still failing. I dont get all this adb tools stuff.

do this:
1.Put Rogers stock zip (keep it in zip form) in your platform-tools folder (you need to download Android SDK). This is the rogers file I downloaded...http://rapidlibrary.com/files/pj83i...elease-254934-signed-zip_ulc8eyefx8i89on.html
2. Boot phone into fastboot (hold power button and volume down key)
3. Used command window to relock bootloader by doing the following:
use command window to get to location on your computer where you have saved SDK stuff, continue with command window to the platform-tools folder then enter the following commands:
fastboot devices <enter>
fastboot oem lock <enter>
Phone will restart and reboot into fastboot again
4. type 'fastboot oem rebootRUU'.
5. Next, make sure you have the .zip RUU file in the same folder (see step 1) and type 'fastboot flash zip XXX.zip' (replace XXX with whatever the rogers stock zip is called, I changed it to "rogersstock.zip")
Phone will reboot to a HTC screen. If you see "re-flush image immediately", repeat fastboot flash zip XXX.zip command. You may have to do this 2 or 3 times.
After doing this, I was able to download and install the Rogers firmware update
BTW...I didn't discover any of this stuff on my own...I researched a bunch of different posts and put it together. Hopefully, someone else finds have all this in one post useful.
I do all the above steps but then i get this message:
FAILED (remote: 44 hboot version check fail)
I try to update the RUU in windows but I get Error 154 Image Updating error.
Any ideas?

[Q] boot loop cannot get PC to read device

Okay I was flashing a ROM for the S4 version and the phone began rebooting in the middle of the flash. I realize my error so lets not focus on that Im just trying to fix the boot loop issue. Im trying to use fastboot to fix it but when the phone is connected to my windows 7 PC it makes the connected sound but the device cannot be found by fastboot and it is not shown in the sidebar tree. I cannot get into recovery the TRWP splash screen is displayed for 10 seconds then it goes to the HTC developers use only screen. Please help. Are there any options to repair the damage?

well don't give up then, it isn't bricked.
I'm guessing the way you worded it, you have a villeC2 (S3) version and you flashed (S4) ROM? So just make sure you have the S3 version of TWRP flashed and flash a boot.img and rom. wipe caches and you should be fine.
Never mind that if your phone is S4 and I misinterpreted that.
With phone in Bootloader, (fastboot USB) try and check fastboot devices again. Opening your folder with fastboot in it and shift right click, pick open command window.
fastboot devices
(should show a serial #)
flash recovery again, since it was bootlooping. That will probably allow it to be stable again so you can mount USB storage.
If you are in bootloader (fastboot USB) and command window on pc is ran from the correct folder but it still shows device cannot be found then reinstall fastboot drivers. That should fix it for you.

Im on the S4 variant my error was not flashing the boot.img separately
Im needing to run the cmd as admin so Im opening it up from the start button and changing the directory to the folder fastboot is in. I did get a serial # HT251W408295 fastboot. as shown
Just to confirm my next step is to flash recovery so my command line should be C:\Android fastboot flash recovery twrp2.1.6-ville.img
Correct?
Im using an older twrp cause I read that the newest one is not the best for HTC one S devices.
Thanks

That would work, BUT:
I see Maximus HD in that pic. For Maximus and any other ROM that uses 2.16 HBoot you can only use the recovery provided in the Maximus original post. It has been modified to work with the new partitions.
If you have moved back to or are still on HBoot 2.15 older firmware, then yes go ahead and flash like you are.
---------- Post added at 07:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:04 PM ----------
oh, and usb storage (mount sd card) will not be available on this new recovery.
Easy way to move a ROM onto the phone while in this recovery is adb push
put ROM.zip in the adb folder and type in command window:
adb push filename.zip /sdcard

Sorry, you need to extract that zip on your pc and put the recovery.img in your folder. Or I guess just extract it in that same folder you are using.
then depending on the name of the recovery.img flash that. But I think that extracts to recovery.img
so
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

One of the possibilities with that error is a bad download. You may have to redownload the ROM.
Another is if you change the name of the rom, just in case you did that.

Help me

I am new to htc
i am flashing a custom rom for first time on htc
what do i have to know?
and what is needed?
and i am stuck on soft brick and cant mount internal storage
i am using
hboot 2.15
it shows tampered
and twrp 2.8
Tampered is shown because you probably unlocked your bootloader on the HTC dev site (which is the first thing you should do anyway)
Now, taking in consideration what you said in the Candy thread, can you enter in fastboot mode? You can do this by entering in bootloader (with phone off, keep pressed the vol down and press power). On the bootloader screen navigate with vol up/down and select with power button. Enter fasboot from there and while you connect the phone to pc via USB you should notice on uour screen a line saying "fastboot USB"
After this you shoul be able to flash the kernel in that mode. You should have ADB installed for this on your pc (it is done by installing the Android SDK) and the ADB/fastboot drivers working.
Let us know how it goes so far then we can go further

Do i need to s off
and ive noticed that even after flashing rom system folder is empty except for bin and by the way my device is t mobile
S-off is not mandatory but is good to have as the whole flashing process will be much easier. Is it somewhere in the bootloader screen written UNLOCKED? Above or below the "tampered"...

unlocked yes i did it but i cant flash the rom it wont be pushed into system at all
please my mind is not clear can you give me a link for kernal pleaseee
Kernel that you must flash in fastboot is the file boot.img located in the system folder in the ROM"s zip....that is, you'll have to open the zip you're flashing, go to system and extract that boot.img file. Save it on your pc in the same location where fastboot and adb are installed then open a command prompt there. You can flash it using the "fastboot flash boot boot.img" command
Edit: Here's an XDA tutorial how to do it in detail

În order to properly s-off, you might need a certain ROM to be installed. Have you tried to get s-off having that stock ROM you got after RUU?
