I'm in the process of setting out how I'm going to do the full works on my Telstra HOXL (root-bootloader-soff).
My question is. Unlocking the bootloader without HTCdev. Can it be done?
No...why wouldn't you want to do it through HTC dev..that ensures nothing wrong can really happen
Early FW versions you could spoof htcdev so they didn't have your real imei and s/n.
For Telstra you need to have FW 1.81 if you want to try this. Be sure you read everything carefully and you're confident as many had issues with this process by not reading the instructions carefully.
It doesn't work on any later versions well not until you're already BL unlocked though so anything else you'll need to use htcdev to unlock, change your cid then S-Off which is a fairly simple process.
Good luck

You have to be able to root without unlocking for it to be practical. Use it as a guide to update a more current method. Links may be dead by now. I'll have to check

I havent followed newest info for some time, but I noticed that at htcdev you can get HTC One S kernel code.
Have this made us anywhere closer to unlocking without htcdev to keep warranty?
I want to root, but I dont want to avoid any kind of warranty (technical service guys here are assholes)
Just do it with HTC dev say to them if anything does happen that I got my token id and everything to unlock bootloader but thought about it and in the end didn't do it they can't say u did then

If you unlock the phone, it will be flagged AFAIK. Even if you don't do anything and relock it, it will be flagged as "relocked". If you flash anything, it will be flagged as "tampered" as well.
I am new to the whole android modding scene but from my understanding, you can NOT get rid of any of those flags without S-OFF which the community hasn't been able to achieve yet.
I've tried every bootloader unlock and I keep getting that error. Any thoughts? The supposed non htcdev bootloader unlocks still take me to htcdev and the same error. I'm rooted

Please read my post before telling me to read. I know that it won't work strictly through htcdev. I'm trying the bootloader unlocks in android development and am still getting that error. Do you have some information I need to know about?

I managed to unlock the bootloader for my AT&T One X. These are the steps that I took.I think that the problem I had was that my root wasn't done completely. SuperSU was installed, but whenever I tried to use an app that required root, it would ask if I was rooted.
1. I factory reset my phone through the bootloader. (For me, this removed root).
2. I uninstalled the HTC drivers on my PC, then reinstalled.
3. Re-root, using this root.
3a. USB debugging enabled3b. Disable fastboot.3c. Make sure HTC sync isn't running.3d. If using desktop, plug USB into the back of the computer.4. Check and make sure root is working properly. You can go into SuperSU and it should update SU binaries.
5. Use this tool to unlock the bootloader.
That is what worked for me. I took every precaution I could think of and it worked. Good luck!

Sounds like a CID or MID error.

I'm running 3.18 on my att one x and having zero luck unlocking my phone via htcdev... keep getting error 160. I also cant find any one click roots for 3.18?? Any special steps I should know about?
That's because htcdev blocks AT&T phones. You need to get SuperCID first. You can't have looked very hard, because there is a 3.18 root method in the General section of our phone's forum. Also, you probably need to do some reading, because you should have known these facts before attempting to alter your phone.

You can't find any 1-click roots for 3.18, because there are none.
The "special steps" you should follow, are to first start looking at my Index thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Find the root method for 3.18. Then you will need to SuperCID. Then, and only then, will you be able to unlock the bootlaoder. Read read read.
Has anybody had this issue with the HTC One M4
To anybody that knows about these forums,
I have been trying to unlock the bootloader for the new HTC One from Verizon, I went to the HTcdev website, and I follow all the instructions step by step, I paste the code into the box, then it tells me some code error 160 mid not allowed, so now I have no clue what that means, I check out the websites and they all have similar instructions on unlocking the bootloader, but they all worked and none of them got the error 160 mid not allowed, I check out the error forums, and they are just as frustrating because they get detailed into what the reason in the code is, but considering that the need for the code to be all 1111 doesn't help when the phone won't even unlock through the htcdev site.
Has anyone else come up against this particular error and if so how was it resolved? Any help is greatly appreciated:fingers-crossed:
You're I'm the wrong forum buddy, this is the HTC One XL forum.

Can someone help me out here? I've been trying to root my HOX running 2.20 and I have read many threads on how to root the HOX 2.20. But what I don't understand is that when I read a thread on rooting, it says to unlock the bootloader first. So I go to a thread on unlocking the bootloader because it can't be done through HTCDev. Those threads on unlocking the bootloader tell me I need to be rooted first. Nothing is making sense with all this.

your on 2.20 there is not working method to root in 2.20 atm and this is in the wrong section should be on Q&A
How do these even get to the dev section? Read the Q&A and general sections and all would be answered.
Lol yeah sorry just read a bit and you'll see 2.20 out of the box is a no go

Dude, based on your post history, you've had this phone for 2 months and you still haven't figured out this basic information???
On any other version of the One X besides the AT&T version, the carriers are allowing the bootloader to be unlocked. For those versions, you just go to HTCDev.com, unlock the bootloader. Then you can flash a custom recovery, and use that to flash a rooted ROM to obtain root.
The AT&T version is a different situation. AT&T is blocking the bootloader from being unlocked. Therefore, the only way to unlock the bootloader is to spoof the carrier ID (CID) and make it SuperCID (basically a "god mode" CID that bypasses the CID check). With SuperCID, you can use HTCDev.com to unlock the bootloader. Unfortunately, getting SuperCID requires root. So its a bit of a backwards situation from other versions (any version but AT&T). For them, its unlock bootloader then root. For AT&T, its root then unlock bootloader.
If you are looking at root guides that say unlock the bootloader, then root; you are looking at guides for other versions of the phone. Either Rogers, Telstra (other carrier versions of the Snapdragon S4 version), or worse, you are looking at guides for the international (Tegra3) version of the One X. Either way, stick to information that specifically for AT&T, or you may do irreparable damage to your phone.
For 2.20 firmware, no root method has yet been found. So you're stuck with no root and no unlocked bootloader until one of the following happens:
1) A root method is found
2) AT&T allows the bootloader to be unlocked via HTCDev.com
3) S-Off is acheived
I was wondering, if now that the CID exploit was found if there would be any attempt to unlock the bootloader without using the HTC site. (i ask cuz i see most questions like this not answered, but people routing others to current x-factor exploit which requires htcdev.)

no. you need SU, and you can't get SU on 2.20 without an unlocked bootloader. You can only get superCID on 2.20 (from temp root)
Is there anyone out there still looking for a non-htcdev way to root? and does anyone know why the x-factor exploit cant be used to gain the temp root? is there a thread where this is discussed. i cant seem to find it.
You don't need to use x-factor because you are still superCID even after an RUU (I think, correct me if I'm wrong)
So all you have to do is re-unlock with htcdev

Xfactor does give temp root.. it uses temp root to change your cid

There is currently no way to root on 2.20 firmware, without using HTCDev.com.
If you want to prevent HTC from having your IMEI (and possibly knowing that you unlocked your bootloader), then you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734558
Still have to go thru HTCDev.com but spoofs the IMEI and SN.
Really not all that useful, as the bootloader will only read UNLOCKED or RELOCKED anyway (if returning for warranty purposes).
I have spent hours on here reading and looking.. Everything seems to be outdated or questionable. I'm sorry if this is something I should of been able to find. I've looked.. Just send me to a link if you need to.
Questions:
If I root the phone will it be carrier unlocked?
If not.. What do I need to do to get it carrier unlocked?
What I've already done.
Unlocked the boot loader with HTCDEV.
HTC seems to be more so complicated than most. Sorry.
Neither rooting nor unlocking the bootloader will unlock the SIM card. That needs to be done separately. I've never used it, but I think AAHK2 does unlock the SIM.
