I have question about rooting android device. I searched all formus but i didn't find any answer. I'm trying to root my device Coby Kyros MID1060
Mobel nr. MID1060
Android verison: 4.0.4
Kernel verison: 3.0.8
Build number: 20121205
I tried a lot of rooting solutions: Z4root, SuperOneClick, Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry....Nothing works -.-
Z4root suddenly stop working when i click temporary or permanent root, SuperOneClick doesn't work after 5# step, I don't know why....Bin4ry root also doesn't work.. first there are a lot or errors, sometimes when I click "restore data" 2nd time, it doesn't do anything; but when it does, a lot of errors and "permision denied"...
I also tried to root it myself under linux with adb... I successfully copied all needed files, but when I tried to run ./psneuter i got this "failed to set prot mask" and nothing works again....
I'm noob in rooting world but how coul'd this be possible, that nothing works on my device??!!! I searched all web and there is no root.
any help?

Hi guys. I have this device too. This is using an AMLOGIC AML8726-MX chip. Got my device rooted using the instructions here in JBolho's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146226. Glennski's kyros was rooted using this method too.
Regarding GApps, I don't know if it will work for everybody but I got mine to install GApps by first changing the model info and fingerprint in the build.prop after I rooted the device. I used a Google certified device. But I suggest to backup your build.prop first. Then I downloaded the latest universal ICS package in http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps. I'm new at this so I placed the zip file in an external SDCARD and tried to update from recovery same as the rooting steps. But it didn't work, so extracted the gapps zip file on my SDCARD, copied the files in the system folder, and then pasted them on my root's system folder. Restarted the device and that seemed to do the trick.
Anyway, try at your own risk.
I'm currently looking for the build.prop file of the Kyros MID1065. The 1060 and 1065 seems to have the same hardware but the 1065 is Google certified.
I have stock 1060 files.contact me on privat and give me mail and i will send you file.

Hi Global, if you know a way of copying the original rom can you tell me? My coby got wicked and sent it to warranty, they changed everything inside. Now I've got a completely new tablet with original software.
If you know a way of backing this all up tell me how and I'll share it with you

Hello! I've a backup from other MID1060, but after restore, the tablet only turn on with light on, no image. I have image only, when a put the sd card with the recovery, the tablet full restore the update.zip, but after reboot only have backlight, no image.
I've tried several roms with usb burning tool, but is the same, no image. I need a stock rom MID1060 to flash with usb burning tool.
I need the correct u-boot-orig.bin, usb_spl.bin, uImage_recovery, update.zip, and correct config_progress.xml. I tried mix several u-boot-orig.bin, usb_spl.bin, uImage_recovery, and correct config_progress.xml, from other roms, but after flash with usb burning tool the tablet don´t turn on. The only rom i can turn it on and went to recovery is the stock rom of Viewsonic VB 80a PRO. I go try find the ViewSonic VB100a Pro stock rom and flash it, to view whats append.

Hello, can you pls send me ?
hello,
I want to root my Acer Liquid E1 but the super one click is not working, are their any other tools?
Frank
You might want to give Bin4ry's rooting tool a shot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Also, make sure you have installed the correct ADB drivers for the device. I couldn't find any specific drivers for this device, but you might want to give these a try:
http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Acer_Liquid_E
Please let me know if you manage to root this beast. I have ordered it myself and would like to know.

I had download the driver from the acer site (http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...E1&Step3=V360&OS=a10&LC=nl&BC=Acer&SC=EMEA_18) and the tool is telling me theat after a reboot the phone should be rooted, but he is not
but thanks alot for you replay
Have you tried Bin4ry's rooting method? he has made it to work on ICS/JB devices, and the E1 gets shipped with an next to stock JB rom here, I'll try it myself tomorrow and let you know what I find

Too bad this device isn't that popular yet. I believe it's one beast of a phone, there really should be more serious dev's, I don't know much about it all. I'll play with the adb drivers and see what i can come up with.
Hey I was thinking. Do you have flashtool installed? and with proper adb drivers that come with the install package (they can be found in for example C:Flashtoolrivers). I don't know about your experience with rooting and such, but you just might need to install the ADB drivers manually. If you want me to I can break it down into a few steps.
Brick3d
Ok I'll post what ive found so far now.
Recovery mode can be entered by powering the phone off, then hold volume + button and power button untill it vibrates.
how to get through menu's is self explanatory, and the recovery menu looks alot like CWM.
I have tried both SuperOneClick and Bin4ry's rooting tools, none with succes. Also have I tried to root it by using zip files and trying to flash them, but all said 'installation aborted', so no luck. I've found a chinese rooting tool for 4.1.2, I'll try that now.
If someone reads this, and is more experienced in system editing, cooking roms, and all other dev stuff; please leave a message and or try to get this one to succesfully root...

Rooting
Another message to everyone having this beautiful phone and willing to root it....DON'T!!!!
Really, don't even try the stuff i've mentioned here. Somewhere in the process I managed to brick my device and I can't do anything due to no other developers for this phone. Just wait.....
Follow the guide made by Paul from Modaco for the Gallant (SuperRecovery part) but use this package. (Include updated flash tool, repacked recovery for E1 and right scatter file)
Vache, the tutorial on that part says to pull out the battery, then connect the phone, then install usb. I did this, installed the mediatek blabla drivers you provided, clicked recovery, then used the recoE1-superuser.img, then clicked download. at this point im stuck because now the program keeps saying 'Loading'
Thank you
Perfect. Acer Liquid E1 rooted. Thanks and gratitude to Paul.

HI,
First of all im new to this android world.
I brought LG E455 two months ago and i rooted it successfully by using a chiana tool
and replaced the super user of china version into english version.
But when i tried to install any custom rom or even if i try to enter into boot recovery using the command "adb reboot recovery"
i end up seeing a red triangle over an android symboll..
how to solve this?
Is it possible for my device to install custom roms?

Just to clarify, is this what you are seeing?

If so you probably need to reflash your recovery.

I apologize, my previous advice was generic for any phone. After looking in to your model I did not see any custom recoveries available for it, nor have I found anyone claiming to have a custom recovery running.
Can you post a link to the recovery that you flashed? Obviously it was not from the ClockworkMod site: clockworkmod.com/rommanager as there is no official recovery for your model. Of course, you might have found an unofficial testing version somewhere else. If so let me know and I will help you look into reflashing it.

I could not find any. To my knowledge, it is not possible to flash anything but stock firmware to your phone, nor are there any recoveries aside from the one already on it.
Your phone is not too old, so someone might still develop a custom recovery and eventually 3rd party ROMs. However, it is worth noting that might never happen. If you wish to flash ROMs and such, it is generally a good idea to purchase a more popular device. More users = more devs = more customizations made.

You are welcome. Does it claim to be incompatible with your device? It might not be able to physically work on your chipset, which means it will not work on your phone unless the devs release an update. If you would like to purchase it anyways just to try it out, you can download a modified Play Store APK that removes device/region restrictions. I have not used such an APK, so I cannot help much beyond linking you to the last one I saw featured here on XDA. That is a pretty old Play Store, so you might Google around to see if you can find a newer version like version 4.x or so. While I have not had much success with the application personally, Lucky Patcher might be able to remove the region/device checks from your current Play Store. If none of those options work, the only route left is illegitimate and not spoken of here.
I have the same E455 and I just want to enter that stock recovery. how do I do that?
I've tried every key combination possible . it just wont enter recovery.
LG site is no help at all about this. just look at the other south Korean phone maker.
the difference is day and night. everything is available for sammy devices . oh,well

Hey Axims,
I`m also ended up on a dead end for this problem.
But yesterday i accidentally switched on my mobile by holding volume UP + quick access button + Power Button. I`m entered into recovery mode but i cant use that mode its only allows LG service representatives to use. Do u know anything about it??????...
It would gives us a clue to enter into our recovery...
If u know anything about it please reply......,
Thanking you.
Hmm, I'm becoming more and more suspicious that it's just a mock screen and not a real recovery.
otherwise, why we can't enter it?
why lg is so tight lipped about it?
some senior member here tried couple of days helping me make a cwm for it. he was always
complaining about the odd size of boot.img and recovery.img that something is not right there.
maybe he's right and lg screwed us . who knows

Hi guys
if you are still following this thread, then I have started to work on the device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48936664
If you have any new news let me know, I am still learning..

I know this isn't a top phone right now so the available dev work will be VERY limited but I need to install custom recovery on this phone. My device isn't listed and shows it has no support for it so can I force a new recovery image manually? If so do I need to back-up my old recovery image first? I did some researching and couldn't find a clear guide on how to install it manually or if there was any risk involved. I appreciate all the help

MTK DRoid tools will help you to make a recovery... it's on the forum....
Thank you I'll check it out.
Just got a new Lenovo s5 (k520 running ZUI 3.7.177 ST) but can't root it (tried KingRoot and Root Genius so far).
It has a nasty little OS (ZUI 3.7) which keeps killing apps it doesn't like. It took me two days to find an adblocker which would work (AdClear) after trying Dns66, Blokada and a couple of others which I can't recall. It's tightly locked down.
* Anyway, my question is... Has anyone had any luck with rooting this phone or OS?
* Or, has anyone any suggestions for apps or rooting options which might be more successful?
If there's any other people out there with this phone, I would seriously consider chipping in to buy one for a dev to work with... give me a yell if you're interested.
Cheers,
Specs:
OS ZUI 3.7 (based on Android O)
CPU Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 2.0GHz Octa core
ROM 64GB
RAM 4GB
Edit: Hmmm, I was hoping that the latest Magisk beta (16.6) might help, but no luck. It does seem to get further along but fails with an 'unable to find boot image' message (my apologies for not being able to quote that accurately). Nothing seems able to find that .img. Can't back it up either as no app can find it. Yes, I need to brush up my adb skills ...my last effort ended in an error reporting lack of appropriate key, as I recall (sorry, have a bit of a flu just now). Anyway, has anyone else been able to look at this phone? Anyone have any ideas (or just thoughts) about what I can do here?
Thanks.
Just to update.... I have tried every simple rooting option I can find -with no luck.
I have found one reference to installing twrp & rooting this phone, but I'm unsure how legit it is ...it just looks a little like its put together by a script; but maybe they just copy/paste a lot when writing tutes? (I have written to them but have had no response from them in a week). The tutorial makes reference to a dev/group in China successfully installing twrp, but only on a Chinese release, not international.
Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows of the group or people referenced at
http://tutoraplikasi.com/cara-root-lenovo-s5/
or if anyone might have an idea of the dev(s) in China working on twrp & lenovo?
Just a shot in the dark, really, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
Cheers.
OK, looks like time for some more serious reading and brushing up of old, much neglected skilz... I will probably close this thread and open another ( if there's no objections) in the xda twrp forum.
If anyone is interested, I'm looking to compile twrp for this device with a view to flashing magisk. Hopefully, it will work. Seems that adb & unlocking the bootloader is the only way I'm going to get to actually see the partitions holding the IMG files etc. (Though I do have one or two ideas about escalating privileges/permissions, but that's a whole other bunch of research -and time which is always short.)
Anyway, if you have an interest in rooting this phone have a look for a thread under twrp Q&A.
Cheers.
Seems like it was just a matter of waiting... XN Logos has come up with a solution, it appears --
https://www.stupdroid.com/2018/07/root-twrp-lenovo-k520.html?m=1
At least I managed some in depth reading in the meantime. I'll report back on success of the procedure.
Hi I have also a Lenovo s5. I hated zui 3.7 too and I succeded in installing Lineage OS 15.1 by phh using only fastboot mode... I tried rooting It but unsuccessfully. Now I want twrp and if it would be possible even root. Did you succeed with XN Logos?

Haven't actually tried yet. After all that looking for a root solution I now have been too busy. Will probably do it this Wednesday. I'll keep you posted. Did lineage work well? Any bugs or other issues? ZUI is a dog.
Yeah everything is okay... In the previous updates there was a problem with the audio in ear but now is solved. The only thing that is a little (but not dramatically) worse is battery life because in zui the fact that the os kills every app in background makes the battery last longer.
Hey guys, I know it is no the perfect thread for this yet this phone almost doesn't exist anywhere on the internet. I have the same issue with apps closing as you do. I wanted to install Lineage OS yet as there is no official release for lenovo S5. I would really appreciate some guidance on which release would I install and how. Would it be via the twrp? Thanks in advance.

I'd say its this one, maikelos27...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...evice-development/lineage-phh-treble-t3767690
Should be able to use twrp, or via fastboot as mentioned.

Hello, I'm a lucky owner of this beautifull beast, the Lenovo S5 K520, but with the horfull ZUI3.7. I always have been using Cyanogen and after lineage OS.
It did not luck for me to install it on the Lenovo S5.
I manage to install TWRP-3.2.2-0713 with the help of the S-Droid toolkit for Lenovo S5.
From there, I did try every rom from phh on this page : https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development/lineage-phh-treble-t3767690
but the best I did get is the first logo of lineage OS going on and never stop for hours. I also did try AOSP treble Rom from this site : https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development/experimental-phh-treble-t3709659, but there I'm getting the Android text changing of ligth theme, but bothing more.
Could you please tell us the procedure and the version of the software you are using so that you are able to use Lineage OS on a Lenovo S5 K520?
Thanks a lot.

Hi i did in this way...
1)fastboot -w
2)fastboot erase modemst1
3)fastboot erase modemst2
4) fastboot erase system
5) fastboot erase boot
6) fastboot erase recovery
7) fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
8) fastboot flash boot boot.img
9) fastboot flash system {systemname}.img
The only thing you should do firstly is download the firmware from a video in YouTube whose name is like "ROM Lenovo s5" or something like that and extract the firmware in order to have both boot.img and recovery.img. Hope I could help
P.s. I used phh lineage latest build
Lenovo S5 global version stock rom
Hi everybody!
I was wondering if any of you have a copy of the original ZUI 3.7 non-Chinese stock firmware. I had trouble with my phone and contacted the customer service. Unfortunately, they've sent me the Chinese version (K520_CN_OPEN_USER_Q00011.0_O_ZUI_3.7.355_ST_180412_qpst) and now my phone is almost unusable as the rom only contains crappy Chinese stuff... :crying:
All apps are Chinese and it contains no GApps... I cannot even restore previously save config.
Please help me and send me a backup or the original non-Chinese firmware.
Thank you very much
I didn't even know the existence of an original firmware for non Chinese phones indeed when I bought it it came with a horrible chinese firmware with few translations. Did you find it? Because I want to try it too. If you didn't find it I'm also going to look for it
