I have just recently found out and realize that below is happening to me.
"Notification bar icons (Wi-Fi, network coverage bars, etc.): Turn green when you have an uninhibited connection to Google, white when you don't. Hint: if you're in a hotel or airport using Wi-Fi, the bars won't turn green until you launch the browser and get past the captive portal."
quoted from http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/some-cool-android-tips-and-tricks.html
when the phone is put to sleep, it often turn white. meaning it got disconnected from google services.
this also resulted to not receiving any push notification (especially on gmail).
when i turn it on again, it will then try to connect to google services and after a while, you will see that the signal bar turn green again.
then only suddenly you receive all the missed notification (this includes gtalk).
anyone has experience similar issue?
(note, i am testing this on mobile data only). going to try it on wifi later.
you seriously have to search the forum, cause this has been covered in a million page thread already in a few different places

hi, do you mean that this is a known issue?
but this doesn't seems to happen to my N1 which is on stock 2.2.1
and guide/direction on where the original discussion is much appreciated.

It's a known issue for the nexus s with a huge thread discussing it.
Unless I'm confusing the issue? Can anyone tell me if I'm thinking of something else?

so, cookie, this is happening to you as well, right?
Hey guys, I'm new to the Inspire sub-forum.
I was handed down this phone by a friend of mine, (phone only. no box) and it is a bit banged up. Enough so the wifi hardware is failing. (I'm assuming so because it doesn't work.) My question is, how do I go about repairing it? Should I take it to an AT&T store? Also, I have not yet rooted it.
Thanks in advance!
Try to reflash the stock ROM. Look for RUU in the inspire 4g forums.
Or, you can call HTC and see what they say. They might be able to do a warranty swap. Not sure if it'll work since you are not the original owner. Worth a shot though.

Thanks Kirk! Although flashing the stock ROM didn't fix it I appreciate your help. I will try calling HTC and hope for the best.
Is the battery cover damaged or broken in anyway? WiFi connector is bridged or built in to the battery cover as an external antenna I think ..
Whenever I removed the cover I get no WiFi..and you can see some gold colored contacts

There is some damage there actually. My volume rocker won't toggle down only up, but I can't really see any physical damage. Any ideas for a fix or am I SOL? D:
I'll post pics in a sec, camera is charging.

It will not let me. A box pops up and says "Unable to scan for networks"
By the way I really appreciate you guys helping me out!
Edit: I should mention WiFi automatically turns itself off after it says "Unable to scan for networks"
Try bridging those connectors with a piece of coppee or a paper clip. See if it changes.

Then that might be serious internal problem that might require taking the phone apart to see whats broken.
Also, HTC will not honor the warranty cause of the fact that theres physical damage.

Considering the phone will not have warranty, I probably will take it apart later and find out what's going on.
Also, it's time to root and flash a ROM.

Thank you, now I just need the tools!
Also, I managed to connect to my router some how.. perhaps that smack I gave the phone did the trick
There is still an issue though. I just ran speed test and am getting low speeds so I'm not 100% sure it's using my WiFi connection. I'm not familiar with sense at all so can you tell me if data connection in the notification bar disappears when WiFi is connected?

The wifi indicator on the Inspire looks very similar to the iphone wifi indicator.

Easy enough, turn on airplane mode then turn wifi on. Let it connect and then try to browse the internet. That will 100% tell you if the phone is using wifi and not the cell signal.

Ah ha! I see now. And surprisingly my WiFi is now working 100% right now and I am very happy! Thank you guys again for the help! Now I'm just paranoid about every little bump that might disable my WiFi somehow
This could just be extra precaution/I'm not sure if HTC would help you out, but you could ask for another battery cover. I hear on these forums that you can get replacements pretty easily...
Yo
Anyway, I have so far used hydro 4 and cm10- both ran nicely and initially connected to home wifi. However, I took it on holiday for 2 days (and meanwhile was connecting to other networks) and when I returned I could only detect wifi from other houses, not my own. This has happened twice, as soon as I go anywhere different, and then come back and try and connect, I cannot detect my homewifi.
A reflash will sort it, but the problem will come back if i use other wifis, then return home.
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks

Did you go back to stock and test? I would assume it isn't a hardware issue since you can connect to others, so I would then troubleshoot your home wifi, and see why it isn't connecting to it. And the reason you are taking a beating over this, is it has nothing to do with development, so don't post ****ing stupid questions in this forum.

LOL I like the fact that its also **URGENT**. hahaha.
That's why we have the General and Q&A section, for this type of questions. Please, lets keep the development section for the developers who contribute(I am so thankful).
Let's try to keep this clean and organized.
Just forget all networks then reboot and you should be able to connect again.......
Throw your router in your trashcan and buy another one..
or ask your ISP, I think this has nothing, seriously NOTHING to do with bad fw or anything else on the device itself.
(and to be honest, I don't like the "Yo" at the start of the thead, find it out by yourself you irrespectful ***hole..)
There are few rules I'm a fan of, but come on people, simple organization.

I have he Nexus 5 since the past 5 months now! I never faced any battery problem. Now since 3-4 days, i have terrible battery drain. I charge my phone to 100% and sleep and in 8-10hrs sleep, the battery is down to 50% . Android OS and Android system are using 30-35% each. I'm on stock and not rooted. What should I do?

I did! It shows PowerManagerService as the main culprit. wlan_rx_wake and wlan_wd_wake aer also equally responsible. But i dont know what that means. Any suggestions?

It's likely your wifi. Did you recently switch to a different router? Some routers cause excessive wakelocks which in turn cause bad drain. If I leave my wifi on overnight I can sometimes lose 10-15%, if I leave wifi off I generally only lose 1-2% overnight.

Do you know if your wireless network is using 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz? Selecting one or the other and not using Automatic seems to fix speed issues and might also help with wake locks.
Otherwise you can try setting Locations to Device Only instead of Battery Saver and also disable Wifi always scanning if it's on.
why don't use both?

Whenever I restart or shutdown my Hauwei Mate 9 USA version the bluetooth turns off and I have to go back into settings and turn it back on I am running the latest firmware. Is bluetooth an issue with this phone? I use android wear watch and it sucks to have to to turn on bluetooth after every restart or shutdown. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
How many restart you do per day lol.
I have the same issue, but it's random. I'm on C568 USA, rooted on SHEILD ROM.

I think it's a problem with Android nogut since I can't pair more than one device with the phone.
I can connect more than 1 device to my Mate 9 no problem, but cannot get a Pokemon Go Plus to connect.
same with mine... iv'e downloaded a toggle to control BT when needed... way easer then pulling down and going into the settings

This apps don't do nothing for my problem.
Maybe it's a software problem.
Any progress on this?
I have my international Mate 9 now since november and it's a blast.
But somehow since a week my Bluetooth switches itself off during shutdown or boot. It's off after switched on, very annoying!
Anybody found the cause, or a solution?
For me the bluetooth takes about 6 minutes or more to connect to my car. My old P9 used to just take 20 seconds.
I also have the issue that bluetooth doesn't remember the setting after a reboot. It won't automatically switch back on. I rely on my watch to alert me so if I forget to turn the bluetooth back on I can miss a dozen notifications over the 5 minutes it takes for me to remember.
