Noob Question- How to Unbrand Htc One S - HTC One S

Hello guys, as you can tell by my post count I'm a noob, so please go easy on me.
I'm interested in getting rid of the Tmobile RUU on my phone and putting in the Euro version. I'm sick of the pace of T-Mobile USA updating their phone. So I was hoping I could get help with this procedure.
Warning, I have never unlocked a phone before. Anyone want to take this quest?

there are topics galore about this.
unlock your device (search 4 tread)
change your cid ((via supercid method) search 4 tread)
relock (search 4 tread)
run a ruu.exe compatible with the cid ((you can do a older ruu, then update via ota) search 4 tread)
why search 4 tread??? if you dont understand what your doing, dont even start.

Thank you. I read through most of them but I got confused with the super cid. If I used that that means any ruu file will work? Also does that mean I won't be able to update ota?

you dont have to change to supercid, you also can change to a HTC-cid that will allow you to run a ruu.
there is a list here on xda with all htc cids from countrys (branded and unbranded)

AW: Noob Question- How to Unbrand Htc One S
Yes, but only if you are not on supercid.
Supercid + ota = brick

Just use HTC__001 (for almost every www rom) or a unbranded EU Cid (for example the UK version).

What if I'm on 1.84 after OTA? Where can I get the 1.84 RUU?
There isn't one unless u pay for it. Try an older Verison ruu for your country might still work
Edit
Use this link and try download the latest ruu update there is on that page make sure its your country if you do download the wrong ruu don't worry nothing will happen it will just come as an error on pc saying you got wrong ruu does not Mess your phone

I thought I can't use an older RUU because the 1.84 OTA on T-Mo upgraded something?
Also, I've already looked at that. No 1.84 RUU.
What other choices do u have ? As I said if it does not work ull just get an error won't hurt to try
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
I believe there is a stock nandroid of 1.84 floating around. Flash that and relock the boot loader and then delete any superuser apps, that should cover you.
Edit: Also the fact that was stated above about someone charging for the 1.84 RUU is f*cking ridiculous. This is supposed to be an open source community and it sickens me when people do that crap.

Use the all in one tool, relock the bootloader, then run the RUU.
I was on 1.53 ull need to wait until 1.84 becomes free its true google and HTC would be very annoyed if they found out people selling their software football is the dude that has it ask him

There is also a nandroid in dev section for 1.84 OR I'm sure Football has it in his signature. Its HTC man... not that difficult

How to un-root HTC One S

I Want to un-root my unlocked HTC One S. The original carrier was Telus (Canada) But i have been using it on Bell. I have read a couple forums on here and none seem to help me. My phone was rooted with a stock rom. But i have deleted all Super user data and relocked my boot loader And re installed the stock recovery but i still cannot get software updates (The reason I want to un-root) Can someone tell me what i am missing?
Did you try the full unroot option within SuperSu's settings?
Edit: nevermind. You said super user not supersu

I have downloaded the Rogers ruu. But haven't ran it yet. Will it lock my phone to rogers if i run it? Or do i need to find a ruu the is for my appropriate carrier?
Get then Run the Telus RUU.
There's few threads about that on XDA with easy steps.

Unless you got a SuperCID your phone is branded as a Telus phone and require the Telus RUU. RUUs are linked with the CID of the phone, not the SIM inserted, you can't run a Bell RUU.

If this is for Unlocking the Bootloader then you don't need to do this at all as we can Unlock without it. If it's for another reason then yes as far as I know you can use this tool which has a Telstra edit here.
Gday mate thanks for the reply will unlocking the BL allow me to flash other RUU files also? Or will the cid still block that
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Don't know why you would want to flash another ruu as after you unlock the bootloader you can flash any rom for the foreseeable future...
After you unlock the bootloader then flash Twrp, then you will be able to flash ROMs.
I think I need to write a guide on this I've answered this a few times recently for telstra users.
Any more questions let me know

Actually, you can't flash a RUU if your device is unlocked.
It will allow you to flash roms.

You can't root but you can unlock your bootloader then flash a recovery then flash a rom that's rooted already.
Sent from my HTC One XL
You just have to unlock to root. AT&T devices have to root first to change the CID.

You can only run the RUU which can match with your phone's CID. If you want to run any RUU other than your CID, you must super CID your phone..
Have you read that guide thoroughly? Are you S-Off..??

Then you should supercid your phone. Flash the ruu and you should be sorted pal.
Edit: hang on what error are you getting? If its 131 I believe that is cid if not then its another issue.

[Q] Should I restore my original CID?

Hi all!
I got superCID to complete the s-off procedure, and everything went fine.
Now can I stay with superCID or it is safer to restore the original CID?
Thanks
I stayed with scid without problems...
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I'm wondering the same, although after changing to super cid, I haven't continued to s-off. At the time there was an unanswered question regarding a few of us whose phone model is PJ04011000. I'm not sure this was ever answered in the Face Palm thread (post 818). Or ... what would I need to do to obtain s-off via Moonshine method. Appreciate any help!

Future updates on stock, i would advise to check twice before doing it on supercid.
Updates on custom roms is no problem.
Depends what your original cid and mid was/is. ( assuming s-off is done)
If its a branded eu device. Then i would unbrand it. (even when not on s-off)
There should not be a mid conflict.
If its a unbranded eu device. Change back to original. Or compatible with a common/general wwe ruu.
Most usa devices have a different mid then the eu devices and are almost always branded.
Fully unbranding these is still troublesome.

That's some insight into CID.
I don't have an RUU of JB for BM_001 and want to change to some other CID using s-off.
Can I receive official updates after S-on and flashing the new RUU? or will there be a problem?

If you just want jb and dont mind that your on stock bell rom.
Just s-off, then change back cid to original (as far is i know always 8 digits, check via fastboot with getvar all command)
Then run a older bm ruu. And just do the otas till, your on jb.
Afterwards you can always, change to a unbranded one if you want. there are guides enough on this forum.
