Audio distorting/scratching - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Running viper 3.2.4, elemental 4.5.
I'm getting audio distort scratching sound. Only when it comes out of the speaker, headphones are fine.
Is this a Rom, kernel, or hardware issue?

There's also Beats and Voodoo sound. Those seen like the most popular to b included in ROMs from what I've seen.

Also some roms include DSP manager, which has separate built-in equalizers for speaker, headphone, and Bluetooth audio. The built-in speaker just sucks though, so if you try to increase the levels on the lower frequency bands you'll just hear distortion since the speaker just can't go very low.

Menu buttons?

So at night time when I'm texting the buttons at the bottom are too bright and hurt my eyes, how do I turn them off and what are they even called?
Sent from my 2nd HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
They are called capacitive buttons, and many mode deal with them. My favorite is leedroid tweaks which has many other great features.

For cm9 you can use the app called ScreenFilter. There's an option, which could enabled/disable the capacitive buttons.

Is there a single rom that doesn't have that high pitched ringing on recorded video playback that isn't sense?

Are you sure? So when you record a video, you can't hear a very faint high pitched sound on playback?
What kernel are you using?

Stock kernel man, yeah I'm pretty sure but I'll test later.

I believe this is a feedback issue between the Mic and the external speaker. Do you get the whine if you record with headphones pulled in (during record)?

Looks like this is a known issue to the CM10 team.
Please star this issue here so that it gets more attention.
