any way to "format" my phone (Telstra XL) and start all over again? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I've been having problems with AOSP-based ROMs (always perform a factory/system and dalvik wipe). It's just not stable at all. symptoms usually starts with 3G/wifi connection going down (the icons turning gray) and all sorts of problems follows like blinking screen, pressing app drawer and it goes back to home screen and etc.
My phone was running JB OTA before and thus was on hboot 2.14. I have since use the s-off trick and have use the earliest ICS RUU I found for Telstra XL to get it to the hboot 1.09. I've tried installing AOSP-based rom using hboot 1.09 and hboot 2.14 (use OTA to update ICS to JB) and nothing seems to help.
The problems I'm experiencing is not present in ViperXL at all (on hboot 1.09 and 2.14) which lets me to believe it is AOSP related or phone just doesn't like AOSP. :/
I really wish to use AOSP so if you could suggest solutions/workaround, I'll appreciate it very much.
thanks!

FWIW I had similar problems with ViperXL. The "network tweaks" that are installed during the Aroma installer was my issue. I installed viper and everything was fine until I decided to switch to another ROM (CleanRom 5.1) to be exact. And then I switched to CM10. My signal was absolutely **** network icon would gray out and the button to turn on mobile network was stuck in the turning on phase at least %80 of the time (didn't happen in viper for some reason). Couldnt figure it out so I flashed Viper XL again and selected generic network tweak and everything's been fine since.

if you meant the telco-specific selection during install, I picked "stock" on my mine as the telco I'm with is not in the list.

this isn't really a solution but more of a test. try this rom i had the best network connection ever on this rom to this day, it is also a good rom and you might even use it as a daily driver.

Random reboot nomatter what i do ??

Hi sensation forum...
I am new to sensation, but not new to android or HTC, as i have 4 different phones with custom firmware on them...
But the sensation give me a lot of problems for some reason...
I have tried ARHD 5.0.2 and Insert Coin 4.0.4, i have also tried Virtuous Inquisition v1.3.0 and HyperSensation CM7.1 v1.2.
The last one is not even ICS based...
All of them give me random reboot cycles...
I have tried 3 different radios also...
Nothing have helped me so far...
I still have a lot of random reboots...
(about every 2-10 min)
When i flash the firmware i use ARHD´s super delete script, but to be shure, i also format everything from within Recovery...
What more can i do here ??
Pleace,if your phone is stable, can you tell me exactly what rom/radio/kernal/ril you use...
My phone was rock stable with factory firmware....
Hey,
When installing roms on the sensation, make sure you follow the guides in the particular thread. It is also important to match recommended radios and rils that go with the specific rom. Make sure you are S-off and cid 11111111. When you are switching roms, you should only have to run the superwipe script, it will set all the partitions for you so that you can flash the rom you choose. Also, before you install ICS, it is recommended that you superwipe BEFORE installing the actual rom to prevent unwanted isssues. Before you do anything else, give me a rundown on what you are currently running.

I have exactly this issue.
I installed ICS Revolution. I had successfully got S-OFF, Installed ClockWork Recovery (updated to latest version), permanently Rooted & obtained SuperCID. I updated radio as recommnded by mike1986 in the ICS post, and wiped the phone with Revolution Super_wipe_Sensation first.
It seemed to run fine apart from Doplhin HD which refused to run properly (so switched to Opera Mobile). However I started to get random reboots.
After a bit I thought to try Insert Coin ICS instead.
I have noticed no real difference in performance and have the identical issue with Dophin HD (back to Opera mobile again).
However I also still have the identical random rebooting issue with this ROM. What else can I do?

I did that with Revolution as well as with Insert Coin this time around. Running the latest version
I'm having the same issue. Did a text book install of AHRD. Everything went super smoothly, but getting these reboots. I have tried to swipe everything, have the latest radio and recommended fw and keep getting these crashes. Not only it's driving me nuts but it makes the phone unuseable... I can't believe we're just 2 to have these problems... Isn't there some king of log we can pull to see what's causing the crash ?

I suspect it has to do with processor speed that's been tweaked in these roms, but can't seem to find a way to tune it back to stock on the ICS rom...
sorry for the late reply, been busy with holiday stuff.. anyhow, make sure you are NOT installing any mods that are not compatible with the current ICS build. I have had no problems switching between ARHD 3.6.10 and ICS 5.0.2. As long as you have s-off and CID 1111111, you should be good to go. When I changed up from 3.6.10 to ICS 5.0.2, I turned off my phone, went into bootloader, selected the option for recovery, then flashed the superwipe script. After it finished flashing that, it rebooted back into recovery. Following that, I went to install from zip, flashed the updated RUU, cleared cache and dalvik, then flashed ICS 5.0.1 and the 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 update. Everything installed smooth from there.

That's exactly what I did. Can't find anything different between your story and what's I did, up to when I switched to Insert Coin
I also don't think it's related to CPU speed. My phone is the XE model which ran at 1.5 Ghz on stock ROM and only did about 3 random reboots in 3 months; (now it's every couple of hours).

Good luck. Hope it helps. Let us know the outcome. My nandroid backup is corrupted so will need to do full wipe of my SD card and phone I think. Then add in a stock ROM

I'm still getting the reboot on the nand backup (OrangeFR), this sucks big time. Now I'm thinking it may be due to the fw I had to install to use AHRD (PG58IMG) and the new radio. This is where I'm lost. How can I return everything to standard ? If I understand well the ROM doesn't contain those files, they are separate ?
Was thinking that my random reboots were radio or firmware related.
Strange thing is mine have stopped, and all I did was reinstall revolution ICS 5.0.1 then upgrade to 5.0.2. Didn't even wipe first. So even my apps & settings all of which I had installed & configured since I had installed Insert Coin ICS, are all still there. Haven't had a reboot since.

I switched back to ARHD 3.6.9, did a factory reset+wipe, flashed radio 10.59 and all is fine, I'm somehow reluctant to try again...
I found a solution that worked for me... At last...
I am REALLY sorry that i didn´t answer here before, but i have been really bussy, and actually forgot all about it a few days....
NOW, i also thought that i had some CPU spped issue with the roms, becource i can actually get the same kind of reboot problems on my DHD when i run it over 1500 Mhz...
So i thought that i would lock my sensation to max 900 mhz, and then see what happens... NO change... Still random reboot... Strange...
I then installed a Android 2.3 rom, just to get my phone running again... STILL random reboots...
hmmm....
Now i was confused...
At last i tried to flash a different radio one more time...
I found a radio in some other sensation thread... Flashed it and now my phone works stable...
At least with Virtuos Inquisition 1.3.0... (Proberbly the 1.4.0 will also work, but i have not tried it yet...)
The Radio i had the problems with is the one from mike´s thread...
I actually don´t know why, as i have allways had great success with his roms and his releases on my DHD...
The Radio i use now is 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035-02_2...
But sorry, i can´t remember from what thread...
Ok, this is what i have discovered on this reboot issue...
I hope it make some sense, and that this perhaps can help other with the same problems...
Try turning your phone to recovery.Backup if you havent already....Wipe Data/Factory reset then turn the phone off....
Remove the back cover and the SDCARD.Turn the phone back on and see if it runs ok without the SDCARD, if it does reformat the sd using 4ext recovery and it will also align it.
I spoke too soon.
My phone didn't reboot for a day after I switched back to Revolution ICS 5.0.2 for about a day, then today it began doing random reboots every few minutes. I had not changed any software, just the area (which might have changed signal and frequency the cell tower uses). So I figured it was time to change firmware and radio.
I had previously (prior to installing custom ICS ROM) flashed the radio to 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 as recommended by Mike1986 in the Revolution HD ICS thread, and had HBoot 1.7.1111 on my device.
I then downloaded the firmware he posted on his thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
This has put the phone back to HBOOT 1.20.0000 and radio 11.15.3504.16_M
Now it's working well and no reboots yet.
Here's hoping.. time will tell.
No matter what radio or Rom combo I get random ass reboots
Super annoying. I did notice the battery goes from 100% to 10% during this reboot
I have calibrated battey. Wiped stats. I'm lost.
I have even tried a new battery. Wtf. Any ideas?
i cant even flash stock ruu I get a 171 error!!!!
Im gonna throw this phone at the f-ing wall in a min
if you flashed newest radio 11...x.x..., you have to have newest hboot also (1.20.. , i guess). otherwise, you will get random reboot. I had this issue before, and i just flashed order radio( i don't want to update hboot version). problem is solved

[Q]Viper XL 2.1.2 random reboots

G'day everyone,
I have searched the forums all around for someone with a similar issue but am coming up with no relevant information.
Basically my issue is that my phone will randomly restart at really random intervals and sometimes continually restart and also other times will just restart once in the day. I have tried re flashing ViperXL without any apps and the stock kernal installed to try and trouble shoot the issue but it still seems to want to restart every now and then. I have had this crazy thought the other day that my phone only seems to restart when I am at home and also trying to connect to my WiFi network??
I have also tried other roms and for the most part the Paranoid Android rom and CM10 stock seem to run fairly well albeit with the occasional restart.
Can anyone shed some light on some things I should try to work through the problem and to solve it, I understand the basic principles of rooting and using adb but have not delved that far into the rabbit hole. :silly:
Anyway if anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers Skete
P.S Sorry if I have made a major error posting in here, just this was my first post and felt like I was running out of options
Try this:
Goto Settings->WiFi(Click the word, not the toggle)->Menu->Advanced
Change option "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to "Always"
That worked for me. I've seen this problem before on other phones I've had. This was a real problem for MIUI back in version 1.
Theoretically, your battery life would suffer, but I have not experienced a battery life change. ViperXL battery is pretty great.
I had these reboots with the kernel that comes with ViperXL. This setting fixed the problem. I have since changed kernels to BeastMode. I left the setting on "Always" and I do not get reboots. Not sure if its an issue in BeastMode, but why change it if it works.

All he has to do is flash a new kernel. Beastmode v4.2 or elemental. Never used the WiFi always setting.
Just go flash a kernel for sense ROMs and you'll be fixed. Don't have to kill your battery.

I'm a newbie that recently rooted the At&t One X on 2.20 firmware. I have twrp recovery 2.3.1 flashed and installed ViperXL 2.1.2 rom. After a few days I noticed that when I turn off wifi and attempt to turn it back on, it will not turn on and display an error. When I reboot, the phone would hang on a white screen until I force a shut down with the power and volume button. Once I turn the phone back on, it boots back into viper and the wifi works as normal.
When I just keep the wifi turned on and move to different locations where I have a wifi hotspot saved, the phone will occasionally reboot.
Is this a kernel issue? If so, is there one preferred with ViperXL 2.1.2?
Still rebooting

[Q] Wifi stuck on "Obtaining IP" on all roms except ViperS

Hi all;
First of all I want to say that I already spent a week or so reading different guides, flashing radios and kernels trying to fix this issue.
My problem is that the WiFi is stuck on Obtaining IP and can't connect to my home network. This happens on all ROMs except ViperS.
This issue started for me after flashing ViperS 1.5.2, before that I was using ARHD 6.8.0 without any Wifi errors.
About a week ago I decided to leave the ViperS 1.6.0 because of a low batery life, but when I switched back to ARHD 6.8.0 I got the wifi errors.
I tried stock roms, ARHD, different RUUs, reflashing radio and firmware, custom kernels without any luck...
The only setup that the Wifi worked (except the ViperS) was after installing RUU_Pyramid_LE_HTC_Europe_1.73.401.4, but when I installed the OTA that upgrades it to 3.32.401.105, the wifi errors came back.
ViperS changelog says that it messes with the WiFi to force 801.11n or something...
Please help me, I just want to go to the previous state, before installing ViperS.

[Q] HTC One XL GPS Problems 4.2.2

Hi, I was previously running Android 4.1.1 Venom XL ROM. I saw 4.2.2 Venom XL and decided to upgrade. The upgrade went smoothly, but I have two problems
GPS:
As soon as I reboot the phone everything works. After a few hours, suddenly the GPS will not work anymore. When you bring up programs that require GPS like Maps/Waze, it will not even look for satellites (no GPS icon shown). Once I reboot, things will be ok for a little while. I tried installing the GPS Status & Toolbox App and even when I open that App, it is the same behavior. It works after a reboot, but the GPS lookup does not happen after a few hours. It is big problem for me since I moved to a new state only 4 weeks back and have been highly dependent on the GPS to take me around. Anyone face this problem and have any suggestions? I tried the different options the GPS Status & Toolbox offered but none of them helped. Thanks for your help. Never had any issues with 4.1.1.
Weak signal:
I have seen suggestions of installing BeastMode Kernel or update the firmware to fix this problem and am yet to try this. Do I need to be S-OFF to install the kernel?
My HTC One X is rooted and I have supercid, but it is S-ON.
Thanks for any help in this regard.

No, you do not. The kernel solution is a good option, if you do not have S-off.
Although you should consider s-off, as its easy to do (especially if you already have adb set to go) and gives you more options for recovering (if you are SuperCID and S-on, a Jellybean RUU will brick you). As long as your understand that s-off means all security checks are off (and you therefore need to be careful of what you flash) s-off can be a very good thing to have.
Also, your GPS issue may be related to the signal issue, so kernel or 2.15 firmware fix might solve this as well as your weak signal issue.
Thanks. I did S-OFF, installed the new firmware, reflashed viper xl 4.2.2 rom and I am back in. So far so good. I hope GPS works ok. I was trying to download the latest 4.2.2 beastmode kernel form the following link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/m53u563v2ql3818/beastmode_tester2.zip
posted on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45089267
Is this the official BeastMode kernel for 4.2.2? It says tester and that is why I ask. Also, I see no specific instructions of how to flash it. Is it just as easy as copy to sdcard and use recovery to flash? Can anyone please confirm?
EDIT: Found the updated link http://nosroms.com/?developer=Evita. But, if someone could still confirm the way to flash the kernel, that would be great.
Wipe cache/dalvik and flash kernel via recovery.
Sent from my One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks. All set now. Looks like my GPS is working great :victory:
I hope that my the kernel does its thing and no signal drops.
Thanks for the help.

[Q] KitKat ROM WiFi reconnect issue

I have read and searched through numerous threads trying to find a remedy to my WiFi issues. While mine are similar to some, I have some uniqueness. I can flash and set up a ROM and phone successfully. After leaving WiFi range and returning I can neither connect nor access any WiFi settings. While accessing the WiFi settings the phone hangs and then settings crashes. After turning WiFi off and rebooting, everything is fine and I auto-connect to the network after boot.
I have tried a few different KK ROM's: KarbonKat, SlimROM and another whose name escapes me. All provide the same reconnect issue. I have also tried three radios, AT&T 2.20, 3.18, and VODAPHONE 5.06 with no difference in performance. I have successfully flashed Candy5 LP ROM (and all is working fine) but I love the customization of KarbonKat and would like to hang with it. Does anyone have any insight on the problem or any WiFi tweaks that I am missing that could help? I am HBOOT 2.15 and S-Off. Thanks.
