Making Original Apps Work on JB??? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

I have searched but am coming up empty so I started looking into the apks but I am not sure what exactly I need to change to make this work...
I would like to make the original FM radio work so I pulled the apk from the original, factory boxed ROM and tried to put it on my Paranoid Android 2.99. It installed but it just pops up with "Unfortunately, FM Radio has stopped"
I want to use the original email app as well because it has the peak/off peak feature.
I can get the apps to install but not run. I tried to remove the app that came with PA and then move the factory one into it's place but that did not produce any different results.
I am not afraid to open files and edit code but I really need some help as to where to start, if this is even possible.
Thanks to anyone that can help!

Thanks for the quick response, I'm still trying to learn and it is appreciated!
OK, I will check out the radio app. Is there an email app that you could recommend that would allow me to control the times that it checks for emails/ accepts push notifications?
Thanks!

I believe k9 has that feature but its been a long time since ive used any other than stock gmail so someone else may have a better answer

Thunderbolt apps htcconnectedmedia.apk and htcdlnamiddlelayer.apk

My buddy got a HTC Thunderbolt and was showing off its ability to stream video to the TV via windows media center using this connected media app.. he stated it also used the dlna to connect as well. Any chance these can work on the Evo?

I haven't tried it with these apps but I believe this feature is already available on the EVO via a similar app called iMediaShare Premium.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/imediashare-premium/com.bianor.amspremium
[EDIT]
I just tried to install these apps on my EVO running CM7 RC4 and it won't let me install them. I then tried to use root explorer and placed these apps under system/app folder and did a reboot. Once it rebooted, I tried opening up the app(s), it just opens and closes up again. I think they might be something going on with the lib files or whatever. Maybe someone can try them under a sense rom.
I believe those very apps are on warmZ and mikZ roms.
No dice on sprint lovers
Do they have the libs?
You shouldn't be able to install via root explorer I believe you have to push.
They come with and work on mikz
Thanks for your replies and info. I ran WarmZ and MikZ both and never even noticed this app on there. So I guess what I am wondering is if they can work on the Evo, what do I need to obtain from my friends Thunderbolt to make them work on a "Non Z" ROM? Or is it even possible for them to work on a standard Sense 1.0 ROM?
@mazdaraider23 Thanks for the recommendation of imediashare.. pretty cool program, but I'd still like to try and get this Connected Media working.

So if I could talk one of the Devs into including these apps with a Sense 1.0 / AOSP ROM they could cook in into it and it would work that way?

My recommendation would be if you're going to see about a Dev including these apps in a rom is go and find Virus and PM him about how to get these apps up and running. If they do require to be added on to a specific rom then he would able to tell you. The guy is very knowledgeable in this kind of stuff! Stop wasting your time talking to random people including myself.......GOOD LUCK bro!

Try virus inspire 4g port or bos inspired i've seen that app on both of those roms for sure
sent from a EVOlved device modded by the Borg.
Since it's an HTC app, it most likely requires the HTC/Sense framework. That means it would be a no-go on most AOSP ROMs because they don't include that framework.
OTOH, if it only required specific libs, you could possibly work it into an AOSP ROM.
I have PM'd Mik and Virus to see if its possible to get an installable package made for the app but have not heard back yet.

Help with T-Mobile music hub

Tomtomyoshi said:
Hey all, thanks for the forum. Quick question. How would one go about getting T-Mobile music hub? I believe, not sure, that it was removed with my rom. I'm using the old cm7 2.3.7 eaglesblood with Trinity kernel and have a g2x. I know this was probably bloatware removed by the rom but is there a way to flash or download it somewhere? I checked market, and if I'm searching for the right thing its not there. I'd like it so I can buy (which is really rare) music from my slacker account. Thanks for all info in advance. -flakkattack

Adding a specific app to a ROM

Ok I'm in the process of building my first ROM for the shift. I am starting with an AOSP, but am wondering if I can add an app to it that is sense specific, from what I've seen. I use the fm tuner app on my shift everyday at work and want to put it on the ROM I'm building. Does anyone know if this will work or am I stuck in try it and see mode? Thanks

Nope, unless you are extremly talented, but it won't work to just drop the fm radio app into system, but search the market, you may be able to find a free alternative that would work with AOSP. I would really like to get the HTC music app on AOSP but it is not that easy.

Sense Apps will usually not work on AOSP unfortunately. If it's possible, it will take some work. But if your looking for an FM Radio Tuner, the Port I did has one. You can try it, and see if it will work for you. Bilgerryan I'm with you on the HTC Music App. It's the one I like the best.

Really?? Do you know how to use the market at all? How to search and download apps? Or did you just want someone to spoonfeed you?
Here comes the airplane, weeeooww(airplane noise), open up! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jb.gosms
That's probably going to be your best free solution. Has quick reply and a ton of theming. Another choice might be handcent, tho I don't remember being impressed with it on my Droid X.
Sorry if I sound like a jerk, I just see a TON of people not use the search option on here at all or even the market.

You may be unfamiliar with Android but usually there is an app in the Play Store that can do whatever you want whereas in iOS that may not always be the case. Need a new gallery app? Search the Play Store. Need a file manager? Search the Play Store. Need a calendar app? Search the Play Store. You should get my point now.

Handcent is the best hands down IMHO
I would agree with Handcent unless you use group messaging, then your going to want GoSMS. I wish SOMEONE would release a non bloated app with group messaging that does not suck
I guess I should have given more details to my question, yes thanks for the replies and no I dont need to be spoon fed lol I have used all of those sms apps but I was wondering if anyone knew of a a custom mms app like the stock one that had quick reply built in. I remember seeing something about one but dont remember. Thanks anyways guys.

Sorry for earlier, I was at the library dealing with retards. You're looking for a mod then? Like CM10's mod to the messaging?

CM10 is pretty good, I'd still be running it now but I was having issues with battery life. I'd lose about 15-17% or so overnight with my phone in deep sleep. I'm on AOKP now and stop far it's better on my batt with the majority of the same features, more even. It does have the sms mod too.
Paranoid Android has the same features too, as do the majority of AOSP roms. I personally like PA and Liquid Smooth, and on my phone PA is the more stable of the 2. I for some reason just didn't like CM10, even though that's what PA and Liquid are based off of..... anyway, the jist of it is you ought to just test em all out, cause what's stable for one person may be extremely unstable for another.

Turns or I was wrong, AOKP doesn't have the popup, but neither does this one. It did give me an idea to which seemed to work for me. I just extracted the mms.apk file from a CM10 nightly and installed it.
I'll Dropbox it in a minute since Tapatalk doesn't let you attach anything except pictures.
Use a root browser and find system/apps/mms.apk (or secmms.apk if you're on TW) and rename it with a .bak on the end. Put the new file in the same place and make sure it's got the she permissions. Reboot and you should be golden.

Wow thanks so much for the help this is indeed exactly what I was looking for!

I installed it but is keeps saying messaging has stopped will I keep the name Mms or change it to SecMms.apk which is what my original was named also what was the she permissions you were talking about thanks?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
You will re-name it to whatever was originally in that folder. I believe all AOSP ROMs it is called Mms.apk and Touchwiz is SecMms.apk.
Far as the permissions, which it sounds like what might be causing your problem, depending on the root browser you are using(I use the one in ROM Toolbox) the format of the permissions you will want it to have are either "rw-r--r--" or "read" for 'Owner', 'Group' and 'Others' then "write" for 'Owner' only and "execute" for none. Or the final format would be 0644
Those are the three different ways that permissions are displayed.
---------- Post added at 02:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:50 PM ----------
I was just thinking, if the whole permissions thing is still confusing after my last post there, I might have thought of something that will do it for you fairly simply.
Replace the apk file as mentioned. Reboot. Then reboot again, into recovery tho. Then go to advanced and click on fix permissions.
A) Not sure 100% if this will work, B) the two reboots may be unnecessary, you may be able to replace and reboot directly into recovery and have it work.
Thanks man ill give it a shot.

Sounds like paranoid should have it.
What ROM are you trying this on? What file browser are you using? And what steps exactly are you taking that's giving you the errors?
I am using cleanrom 3.0 and esfile as my file manager. I first add. Bak to the original SecMms.apk. Apk and then add the file you gave me and renamed it to SecMms.apk and reboot, the permissions are the same as my original message app. Once the phone boots back up it will get to the loading conversations screen then it tells me that is has stopped working or something like that I am lost and thanks for the help.

Big CM10 + Sense question

I'm not sure if this is possible but its worth a try to ask. I really like the phone app built into the CM9/10 ROM. Im using rebellMOD and love it but i was wondering if there was a way to extract the phone app either to replace or work beside the sense one (replace would be nice, but anything would be sweet) Viper rom would be the one I'd like to use. Also would it be possible to get the standard Mail app (the yellow one) from CM9/10 to work on a sense rom? I like it over the one built in?
Any help would be sweet! Or just info to how or why its not possible. Thanks!
Anyone? Mail app is not as important

Well, if you take viper for example there's an aosp dialer and contact list THEME. Not the real $h!t, but it looks pretty close

I think Scott tried to bring the AOSP dialer into Clean Rom dev a long while back and had no luck getting it to work. You could try theming it though.
And I have no clue about the mail app. I always delete it since all I use on my phone is gmail.
