Here's the situation.
I got a second hand tablet.
They guy did root, but right before give it to me he installed the stock rom AND upgrade to ICS. Now I can't get SU in terminal emulator.
1- I can't get SU in the current os so can't flash anythin
2- I can't plug a USB cable, 3 cables and none are detected in windows OR linux
3- Can't go in recovery mode as I get the robot on his back with a red ! .
Any help here???
Can I flash a recovery from a sd without having to enter anything?
Please help me guys, I'M STUCK!
Build is : IML74K.US_epad-9-2-1-27-20120615
Is USB debugging enabled on the tablet?
If you can't get the PC to see it, I don't think you can root it
And without root you are stuck with stock everything

Doesn't sound hopeful, have you tried on another PC to rule out the USB ports / software issue ?
When you say you have tested 3 USB leads, you are not plugging it in from the normal USB port on the tablet are you?
To make a connection to the tablet, you need to plug the charger lead into the tablet and pull the USB end out of the charger and plug it into the PC

The lead you need to use to connect to the PC, is the charger cable
Pull the cable out of the charger brick and you will have a normal USB end to plug into the PC, other other end is the big flat connector that plugs into the wide port of the tablet as if you are charging it

If you have stock ICS, I don't think it is a problem with the ROM that is stopping it being recognised by the PC
Did you enable USB Debugging in settings on the tablet yet ?

Does the PC see the tablet if you put it in APX mode?
Plug it into the PC, then power OFF the tablet
Now hold: Volume Up + Power until the PC sees it
If it does not see it in APX mode, I think its a damaged port

APX mode is to help recover your tablet if recovery and ROM are dead
If the PC does not see it in APX mode I think the hardware is damaged
The tablet has to be OFF, then Vol up + Power for about 5 seconds, then let go
To get out of APX mode, you need to hold power button for about 20-30 seconds, then power on normally

If you can get it to work in APX mode, you can flash any NVFlash ROM
Here are some stock ones, if you flash a new one it might fix the USB problem
http://www.xdafileserver.nl/index.php?dir=Asus%2FAsus+Transformer+%28TF101%29%2FSTOCK+ROMS
Have a look around the Development forum for Rooted Custom NVFlash ROMs too
EDIT - What serial number does the tablet start with? Sticker near the charging port, if it is B6O or before you can use NVFlash, some B7Os too, if it is higher, then we need to find another way
EDIT - Yea EasyFlasher should work for any TF101 if you can get APX mode working

Hey. My captivate has been working beautifully with these new GB roms until about a week ago when my computer won't even recognize my phone. and all the phone shows that it charging but no notification about USB connection? ive tried different ports and reinstalling drivers all that good stuff and restarting my computer and turning on and off usb debugging and the cable still works with other devices so can anyone help?
Also can you tell me if samsung will replace my phone with a custom ROM on it? im thinking of doing this because i cant flash back to stock without the USB working!
Are you sure the cable is 100% functional? What other devices?
Try plugging it in to another computer as well

I have had that problem on a few gb roms too. Go into USB settings and change them to kies and then plug your phone into the computer using your USB cable. Just leave it plugged in for a few seconds, you don't have to wait for your phone to be detected. After unplugging the cable, restart your computer and phone. Once both are running again, go back into USB setting and change them back to USB storage and then plug your phone back into your computer, making sure you use a USB port directly connected to your motherboard. Works for me everytime.
Edit: If you suspect that your USB cable is not working, see if Odin will detect your phone in download mode. Don't flash anything, just see if it says connected in Odin.

it didnt work if i just go to samsung and give them the phone with the custom rom on it what would they do?
Download kies and see if your computer will detect your phone in kies mode. You could always get an SD card and put all the files on the card then move them to your internal SD. If you have a custom rom installed you can flash stock using cwm. Did you try connecting your phone in download mode to your computer running Odin??? If it doesn't detect it then your USB port is not working or your USB cable is broken. If it is working flash stock and start again. It could be a bad flash.
i have had the same problem a couple days ago, plugged in another captivate into my computer it recognized it. then plugged in my phone and everything was working fine again.
try plugging in anothe android phone running froyo or whatever version you have

The USB drivers for download mode are in the bootloaders and has nothing to do with the USB drivers for the rom. Even if you had a bad flash and the USB portion of the rom was corrupt, your computer would still be able to detect your phone in download mode. See if you can plug your phone into a different computer either at a friends house or at work to see if they can detect your phone with your cable. If not, you will need a new cable.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
So what if that didn't work and nothing was wrong with the cable? Would it be my USB port on the phone because the cable wiggles when I put it in.

Are you trying to connect to transfer files, sync outlook or issue ADB or APX commands?
Does your computer play the new hardware sound?
What OS is your computer running?
Do you have USB Debugging checked?
Have you tried another USB port on your computer?
Also, many of the JB ROMs show a charging indicator via USB even if it is not really charging.

Does it Charge
if it Does Try to install USB Drivers for Nexus Properly (try Googling)
