[Q] Which ROM's don't have black screen of death - T-Mobile LG G2x

Which ROM's here do not have the issue with the black screen of death? (When the phone will sometimes just not come out of sleep mode sometimes, often when charging or with wifi turned on)
I know that Cyanogenmod has the issue, but what about other ROM's? I'm looking for a nice GB ROM that wouldn't have this issue.

Reborn doesn't do that for me.

Latest baseband, mokee with stock kernel and I never get bsod. I'll have to try with mazouts kernel.

I have not had a BSOD on PA CM10 Build 9, v21y, and Mazouts latest kernel yet. Battery performance could be better though.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried CM10 and didn't like the lack of hardware acceleration. So I'm waiting on CM10.1 for that. Hopefully some of the BSOD issues will be resolved there. In the mean time, looks like I have some ROM's to look at.

+1 for a lot of truth in it! It's also phone-dependent. Not all phones experience BSOD's with all kernels. It's an art to mixing and matching the kernel to your phone that gives the best performance. For example, my phone is SUPER-PICKY when it comes to Kernels. I can't OC my phone above 1.2Ghz or the phone will just randomly reboot. Also, ALL kernels cause my phone to BSOD while charging. I have to enable the preference to never let my phone go to sleep while charging. Before you start suggesting solutions to this, I have tried everything from increasing the voltage of the lower frequencies. I have tried eliminating the lower frequencies while sleeping. All of it. My phone is just a PITA when it comes to charging. I can live with it being on all the time while charging.

Yeah being on while charging is no big deal. How do you do this though? I only found a setting to keep the display on for 30 minutes tops in my G2x running CM 7.2.

your welcome
"Well, bust my buttons! Why didn't you say that in the first place? That's a horse of a different color!"

The "Settings-->Applications-->Development->Stay Awake" trick works for me as well. I'm running cm7 -20130201-nightly on the v21y baseband with the 2.6.32.60-mazkrnl.GB kernel. Without the stay awake setting enabled the phone will still freeze but I haven't had the a problem since enabling the setting over two weeks ago. I also have a Titanium Backup schedule set up that alternates between backing up new applications and saving modified data at 3:30am every night with a device reboot for good measure.
This is the first time in the almost two years I've owned the phone that I've been fully satisfied with it. I feel like I can live out the rest of my three year contract with the phone now without a problem. I guess the note 2 (or a sony xperia device, I can't decide) will have to wait, my G2X still has some fight in it yet.
I must also note that I have never had an issue with any of the ics of jb ROMs. The last ROM I was running was "[Dez 30] [P999][ROM][CM10] ParanoidAndroid v2.56 Hackfest JB [build9beta]." I used it for over a month but the lack of a decent camera, no video recording ability, wifi drain, general battery drain and battery indication problems eventually became too much. The ROM itself was stable as a rock but the small issues become too much after a while.

Rom or Rom+Kernel with best battery duration known?

So ye, maybe tonight or tomorrow a storm will come and probably will have no electric power, I have 3 batteries but just in case it takes long to get electricity back I wanna know what rom or rom/kernel combination has been proved to be one of the bests battery saver.
I know I might get shot by the search police but I made this new topic cuz roms get updated everytime and old searches can point me out outdated answers, plus I need a quick response since the storm might start tonight, thanks.
There's no definitive BEST. It's all about what you do and how well you manage it. I get pretty great battery life with CM7 and LordMod's kernel. But some people have battery drain issues with cm7 nightlies. It's more about you and your phone. Experiment, try stuff out, see what works best for you.

I recommend using the Nightly builds, it intimidates some people who are new to CM7 but they are really good and for the most part very stable.

YO Thanks again, CM7+BFSLordmod with the stable puv gave me 10 hours (data/sync off and screen most of the time off) and it was still at 91%!!! thanks a lot.
Im surprised how leedroid and other sense based roms now drain a lot of batteries! maybe cuz of the new sense, I remember leedroid gave me better battery results in the past similar to cm7.
I'd go with ninja its got better battery life and is even smoother

I have done some research into the Android OS draining the majority of the battery and didn't really find anything with the SGS4G, however found the issue in the Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy SL i9003, Galaxy Note GT-N7000, and the Samsung Infuse 4G forums, and I am sure there is probably more..
Out of all those forums this is the only one that seemed like it could have a solution linking it to:
1. Google backup transport
2. Organizer widget

My only problem, I have neither of those on my phone.
I was hoping that maybe somebody here could help me diagnose the issue. For the longest time I just have thought my battery is getting old and isn't holding a charge as long, or I just use my phone too much. However after watching my Battery Usage over the past couple days makes me wonder if there isn't another issue here.
I am currently running RaverX3X's amazing Valhalla BlackEdition Final with the Booster and FBis251's bhundven's SMS KJ6 v0.2.0 Kernel. I also have installed the BraviaHack and am using the KG4 Modem. I am able to post logs or anything that can possible help. I have used thomas.raines 1-Clink Gremlin Remover following each step to the "T" with no luck of fixing the issue.
I have attached more Battery Usage Stats as well in case they might help.

Thanks guys, I have pretty much resolved the issue as I have switched Kernels and am no longer experiencing huge battery loss from anything other then the Display which is just plain normal. I still plan to update over to FBis251's version of ValhallaBlack as I have been keeping an eye on it, and debating when to make the switch.
[On a side note] I'm still not hundred percent sure why the Kernel was giving me this issue to begin with. If I had more experience with Android development debugging I'd love to dig deeper into this issue. However though since it doesn't seem to be a huge issue among other users in the SGS4G forums, and it is easily fixed by using another Kernel I don't really see the need.
Thanks again FBis251, and m0bstr.
Problems with Android OS with Gingerbread and Froyo
I have now encountered battery drainage problems on two different Samsung phones. For a long time my Samsung Captivate ATT running Froyo 2.2 was killing my battery. I was about to buy a new phone. I touched base with Samsung and decided to back up my phone and do the factory wipe.
After the reset and the loss of my apps, the phone seems to be working ok. Even a battery which constantly appeared to be dead, is now working fine and holding a charge.
Today another phone the Samsung Glide ATT running Gingerbread seems to have caught the problem and Android OS is using 25% of the the battery. This is ridiculous.
Normally, about 75% is for display and OS doesn't even show up.
Another person at work had an Android exhibiting similar problems today. This problem seems to be pretty widespread if I know three people with this problem. Feedback appreciated.

Telus SGS4G battery life and ICS

I've tried many of the SGS 4G ROMS after convincing my Telus SGS 4G it was a T-Mobile version. I really like both remICS-UX and UltraGen ports, but battery life is quite disappointing. 3G/4G was not as good on remICS-UX ans UltraGen.
Any Telus phone users out have suggestions on other ROMS to try, or settings to try for our phone (yes I searched the forums, very few Telus folk here).
Cheers,
BHTM
Flash with hefe kod kernel over your Ultragen rom. You should see a big difference in your battery life. Also turn off wifi and GPS if you r not using it.

The Telus phone is actually the T959P or something and it's reallynot the same phone as they use different bands than Tmobile/Wind does, so I'm surprised the ROM actually works but there could be many things that are draining the battery that are due to the fact that's its not the same phone, and that also would explain why things don't work right in terms in wifi/4g/battery, etc.
Yeah I am totally surprised it worked too. But a few kind Telus users here give easy instructions on how to make it think it is a sgh-t959v. Just hoping they will continue being kind and share there tips and tricks.
Anyway busy thanking and donating to all you kind folks. I'm a happy noob, having fun great fun trying all these custom roms.

Just curious what you did to make it think it's a 959V ?
When you say battery life wasn't as good, can you clarify that? How long were you using it, how long did you have the screen on for, did you change governors to one better suited, can you take a screen shot of your battery window in the settings like this

Whatever app is listed at the top, in my example, Screen, click on that and take a screen shot, This will show how much time that app has used
If you run something like CPUspy, it will show you the different "states" of your cpu, IE, what speed it's running at. If the phone is in standy, it should run mostly in deep sleep state. If something is keeping it from sleeping, that will affect the battery.
I just took my phone off the charger, but you can see it used 1000mhz for the bootup at full speed, then when I shut it off, it went to deep sleep mode. If there is no deep sleep, then something is keeping it "awake" and that is the cause of the battery drain. Sometimes installing app's can do that.

There is more coming... btw.
someone is sending me a verizon fascinate, and there is some common code between sgs4g, verizon fascinate, and T959P.
The bigger part is cg2900 gps driver, different digitizer, and a few other odd ball differences.
I also have an SK4G that I'm trying to port as well.
A lot of these devices share the same drivers, and our phones are just a little bit different then aries.
Fascinate even has some problems in the aries kernel, although I think they have work arounds for most of them.
So, as soon as I become available (not busy with work from 8am to 3am daily...) and get the verizon fascinate from... someone, I'm gonna start looking at t959p as well.

My daily usage is like this: Get on train, use phone to Netflix, read news (Currents, Flipboard, et al), listen to music from Google cloud or Rdio, screen on the entire time (1 hour 15). Don't use phone for 8 hours. Reverse the train ride. Charge phone when I get home for next day use. Rarely have GPS or Wifi enabled. No media on SD card. Only half dozen extra apps (Currents, Flipbord, Google Play Music, Rdio, Google Maps etc).
The stock ROM from Samsung/Telus did a good job of lasting through day and have enough charge to finish the nightly train ride.
Had a chance to play with CPUSpy and try a few things, no deep sleep on remICS-UX or UltraGen and they would not last through the day (unused, screen black) without being charged. I haven't changed the default ROM performance settings or governors (tried to OC but phone got really hot, didn't really notice any difference is application performance, so set it back).
I've just started trying the SlimBean 3.1 ROM seems to be deep sleeping according to CPUSpy. Fingers crossed it behaves closer to stock ROM as far as battery is concerned (deep sleeps when not in use)
Anyway thanks to mcmerrit for the instructions on how to get this odd variant working with the mod community ROMs. Feels like I have a new phone
I've never been able to get more than 10 hours on a charge with 2+ hours of screen time on any ics roms with the stock battery. I do have wifi on pretty much the whole time though.

[Q] Rapid battery drain

Hi all, I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus GSM version (maguro)
I've flashed many roms before on this phone, including some unofficial kitkat roms.
After flashing one of these roms, I noticed a big impact on battery draining: down to 0% in a matter of 10 hours.
I decided to reflash the stock android rom 4.3. You know, like a total wipe, reflash everything from scratch.
Battery life remained the same, so I bought an original Samsung battery for my phone on ebay.
While I saw increase, it lasted now max a few hours more than my old battery. So the problem is not fixed.
I've tried to depict the problem but haven't found it. BetterBatterStats & co don't report a problem nor an app that is misbehaving or eating battery. Neither is network connectivity the problem: I use 2G only, and the connection is stable where I am.

As far as I am aware, it is not your typical "bad app" or connectivity problem, but something else.
Does anyone have an idea what I might have done wrong when flashing that could cause this?
Could it be a hardware problem I inflicted by flashing?
Should I follow a particular guide and reflash again?

Okay fair enough, but flashing new roms is useless if I don't have any idea of the cause.
Also, does flashing a rom also flash other radios etc? In that case you are right this might help.
I've noticed that battery drain is equally worse even when in airplane mode btw.

But to no avail, the battery drain is constant and very high.

3. I'm liking it a lot. Fast, smooth, and a lot better screen, sound, and feel vs my beloved P2. I do miss the FP sensor and led light, but oh well

Those are the 2 things I miss too. Definitely. But, screen refresh is super nice, vibration, screen (colours, no blue shift) build quality, camera, machine learning AI (caption etc) all better thank P2XL. Still loved that phone, I mean, gees, I loved my N6P too but, things have changed haha.
