[Q] Is CM 10.1 Stable? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I was just wondering if CM 10.1 is stable. I know its under the nightly section, but I am just wondering. I use this phone as my daily driver so if there are minor bugs, please list them. I am currently running CM10 right now and its perfect. Thanks

U can always do nandroid and see it for yourself. There is only one snapshot build (M1) which CM team consider to be stable(ish), other ones are nightlies. Nightlies aren't intended to be daily drivers.
Personally, i find CM 10.1 to be pretty laggy at the moment and differences between 10 are not so dramatic to bear with the instability.

For me is CM10.1 perfectly stable. I run latest nightly, update my Nexus almost everyday I never tried CM10, so maybe it's better.

Samsung JB Source

Has the Samsung JB source dropped yet? I've been waiting patently for a 100% stable JB AOSP ROM for GS3 since I got it in June, and since we have official TW JB build now, I was wondering when we can expect to see a fully functional CM10 build, it still looks like there are quite a few bugs with CM10, I haven't tried any of the other unofficial AOSP builds because CleanROM is just running too damn good

Try 'Beans' B6, it's pretty stable and completely aosp themed, even has the aosp lockscreen. Depends on what you use but I don't see how CM10 has enough bugs to not be a daily driver.

JB AOSP has been my daily driver for months now... not sure what bugs you're having issues with. Aside from the random bluetooth issues (which don't bother me much) its perfectly stable.

100% stable?
You will never find that.

You misunderstood, I was saying that it DOESN'T have enough bugs to NOT to be a daily driver.

CM9 was incredibly stable.. wonder If we'll ever get to that point with CM10 or CM10.1 for the GS3.

aside from some quirks im going to echo what neverendingsin said.
theres no reason you should not try AOSP roms right now. theyve been 100% stable for me.
I sent a FOSS request to Samsung, they should get back to me tomorrow.

The sprint JB kernel source was released, thats what ktoonsez and leankernel are going off at the moment for our device.

CM9 for the s3? "Incredibly stable" and "100% stable" are two far different beasts....

[Q] Nexus S CM 10.1 Nightlies or M Snapshots

hi,
I have installed CM 10.1 nightly build on my Nexus s. It works find for me no issues as yet seen. But I wnat to know if the M Snapshots release is muchh better that the Nightlies. Is it okay to upgrage to M Snapshot ROM (Mostly stable is what i have heard) .
If the anwer is yes, Do i need to do a clean flash or just by updating it will work fine???
regards,
Ft.
The snapshots are for people who don't want to flash nightlies constantly. The M1 is the exact same as the 1/21 nightly. Flashing a snapshot is essentially the same as flashing the 1/21 nightly and sticking with it until the 2/21 nightly...
The M1 is stable, as are all of the nightlies.

[Q] IS CM stable worth to install?

Hi there mates,
I finally decided to dump the stock ROM and give it a try on custom one.
After reading a bit i think i'm starting to like Cyanogen, but since i want a good stable ROM i appreciated some opinions form anyone who is using it.
1st and really important: my stock ROM does not have any of the know issues (deep sleep probs, random reboots, battery drains etc...) so anyone know if CM 9.x stable have any of this issues?
2nd does everything work? In the CM forums i found no one complaining with "loosing" functionality's but i would like to ear from anyone that uses this on a daily basis. (i found a lot of people complaining with encryption problem and bad flashing but not about Wifi radio, camera, etc...)
3rd: Is this the best choice to use on a daily basis? Or there is a better/more stable/more fluid Rom?
Thanks to all.
Most of the CM 10.x ROMs are pretty stable and usable. I am a fan of the KatKiss ROMs. 4.2.2 has the best functionality, but the 4.3 variant is not bad. The only thng that does not work for me is camera on Skype.
+1 for KatKiss #226

Have you tried the stable version recommended on the CM site? Its 9.1.
The 10.x versions are not marked as stable... and i really dont want to re-re-reflash over and over again

Hmmm, if I did it was a while ago. CM 9 is based on ICS. I have not run an ICS ROM for more than a few hours in over a year. I would say that the Jelly Bean based ROMs (CM10.X) feel SO much faster due to project butter. I flashed back to stock ICS a bit ago, and it feels so sluggish.
Most of the threads on CM 10 you can see how stable they are. I know the No-Name CM 10.1 is rock solid. Joesteink has moved on, but the ROM is still rock solid and many users swear by it.

Is CM finally stable? I had it installed a year or so ago, but then it was still beta for the transformer. Since then I used various flavors and eventually stayed with the EOS-build. Very stable with all the options I ever need (like overclocking and gouvenor-changing). I'm still using EOS, since it's stable and performing very well. Katkiss seems to be the continuation of it, so you could try it yourself And if you don't like it, then you drop it for something else

Is CM Stable Enough?

So I've just been running a stock rooted flashable ROM nothing else. I want to have CM or a CM based ROM due to easy updating etc.. Anyway I'm ocd when it comes to what's on my phone I just don't want any bugs or issues.

Yes, CM and most other roms found in Android development forums are stable enough to be used as a daily driver. But obviously you will face fcs sometimes!
Why don't you try it out? If you're not happy with it, just restore the nandroid backup!
Don't use nightlies, use release candidates or releases those will be the most stable. I think the snapshot would be your best bet or read the CM thread and see what problems users are reporting if anything.
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=hammerhead
There are more ROMs besides CM. Those Devs work hard and don't want to be overlooked just because CM is the most well-known aftermarket ROM.
Depends how picky you are regarding stability/daily driver of a phone.
If you want to play it safe, just root phone and install Xposed + GravityBox.
If you want to explorer more capabilities, go with a stable build of CM.
However, from my past experience with CM/custom roms, it's really all random. I've had unstable experiences even on a stable CM build, and I've had fairly stable daily driver of a rom when using nightlies too. It's really all a gamble.
Always make backups.
But I will say from where you are coming at, I'd try the Xposed framework + GravityBox 1st before you attempt going CM.
I'm using CM11 snapshot M3 and it's working fine for me. No bugs so far. Give it a shot.

Thats what I'm currently doing... Lol. I only use the status bar signal colours and nothing else. I like stock with a little changes.

I too recommend gravity box, but give cm a shot, Just back up, play around with CM, if you don't like it just restore, good as new :good:
I'll be flashing the latest nightly right now, 3-5-14
I'm a little OCD myself, I dislike having all those Play Apps to be honest lol, :silly:
You can play it safe with multirom manager. Use it to keep your current rom and dual boot into other rom to test them out. That's what I'm doing.

I'm for GravityBox + stock honestly. Xposed gives me all the tweaks I really need.
IMO yes it is very stable. I've chosen to run PA purely because I love Pie. They are all very stable these days, only the ones which say that they are unstable are unstable.
Devs and contribs are getting pretty good
Sent from my Nexus 5 running PA 4.1 and franco.kernel
Monthly, release candidates and releases are stable.
+1 to avoid nightlies w/out nandroid backup.
for example all of the nightlies sincd 03/01 breaking google dialer and voice+.

Chose stable custom rom for my sis

Hello people
My sister is considering flashind custom rom on her SGS Advance. And because I'm not familiar with Samsung devices (I have two Sony :>)
I would like to ask you to help me chose the most stable and fully functional custom ROM.
At the moment she has stock JB installed but it has some freezes and doesn't run very well.
What can you recommend? It doesn't have to be the nevest android.
I think I would chose between SkimKat 4.4, CyanogenMod 11 by Team Canjica and VanirAOSP 4.4.4. I know those are very good custom roms.
Can you tell me if there are any issues with those? like reboots, not working features?
If you say custom ROMs, there is no ROM which is bug free but there are stable ROMs.
Stability depends on how and what you use. All 4.4 ROMs have reached to a state where you can use them for daily use.
I am Using CM11 nightly 20140614 and dont have any problems.
All the ROMs have their dev and Q/A threads, you can check them for the most stable builds and the working/non working functionality.
Try the latest vanir aosp its fast, fluid and stable...
For me its the most stable rom yet
Well SlimKat seems to be bugless.
VanirAOSP has some bugs with SystemUI
Go for the slimkat(final). It's the smoothest, fastest rom for our phone.

Test all roms to see which rom fit for you
CM 10.1
Wysłane z WOO-Phablecika 4.2.2...
Vanir is the best!
AOKP 4.2.2 by PV after uninstalling and reinstalling calendar is stable.
Wysłane z AOKP-fonika 4.2.2...
I'd have to go with Vanir. Everything just works and lag is virtually non-existent. The only downside I can see is slightly shorter battery life (could be just my phone though). One advantage that i love is it has it's own updater so it's not much of a hassle to get the latest fixes and improvements!
Another option for her would be to stay with stock JB bit change her kernel to CoCore.

More performance = more battery drain.
@lozohcum : How old is she? She want a girl theme too?
After testing almost every ROM, i think that CM10.1 is the most stable(with good battery backup)...
Liquid smooth 3.2 smooth as liquid with all customizations
just battery backup is 15 to 17 hr is matter

Yeah, you should try this. Cm 10.1 is awesome!
I think u can choose between VanirAOSP or AOSP from j.team.. The last one is disscontinued but its 90% finished and 100% stable.
U can choose one of them, or, simpli, test both because testing is the only (exactly) way to know if ROM is for you (or sister).
See all!
