I am extremely new to rom flashing. I studied and was able to flash Viperxl 3.2.3 to my HTC one X. The question is: What would be the best sense based kernel to use with this rom and what would I use to control the the clock and voltage for battery and performance.

You have to flash it through fastboot on your computer if your phone isn't S-OFF.

I suggest you read those instructions a few times..but after that flashing becomes a breeze and no you would not need to dowgrade your hboot if you s off

Thanks. I will study before I attempt to do it. It took about three weeks of reading everything I could find on here before I flashed the rom. After reading all these posts, I understand the importance of doing it right the first time.

Extract the boot image from the zip file. Place the boot image and the "complete zip file" on your phones sd. Go into recovery, do wipe, flash boot image, then flash zip file. Reboot.

download the file in the link which above which will include adb and fastboot....put that on your computer somewhere you can find it.. now take the boot image out of the Rom zip and place it in that folder... Boot your phone into bootloader scroll down and select fastboot and now open a command prompt with in the fastbootbadb folder on your comp and type to command without the quotes "fastboot flash boot boot.img"...now go wipe in recovery and install the Rom it doesn't matter if you keep the boot img in the Rom zip or not

Yes.
Flash boot.img with Flash Image GUI, or with fastboot.
Flash the whole ROM zip in TWRP.
Note: When you say "the rest", it implies you removed boot.img. It should still be in the zip. The zip should be fully intact, just as you downloaded it.

Have you by any chance tried out CWM 6.0 and decided to go back to 5.5.0.4? Did you extract the "boot.img" file from the ROM & fastboot flash boot boot.img thru ADB AFTER you flashed your ROM.zip file since you are S-On?

Hasoon's toolkit is for unlocking, installing CWM & superuser if my memory serves me though. You can flash your ROMs thu recovery (CWM) but with S-On you will have to extract the "boot.img" file and flash it seperately thru ADB because HBoot will stop an unsigned file it sees as a Radio from flashing if S-On.
There ARE a couple of other versions of CWM....5.5.0.4 & 6.0.0.0. (6.0 has some REAL issues though and has bricked several phones so IF you notice it....don't USE it.)
This will explain it much better to you...... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508556

If you flashed your ROM and then the boot image after you did that it shouldn't be a problem. Did you read the post above yours and answer those question though? Did you check the link I provided and understand fully what it was talking about? That is VERY important.

if you dont you need to do this ASAP because when you are on you have to fastboot .img files to make it work im not too familiar as i am s-off. follow my first link to set up adb and fastboot then go to the link weekend posted. (which is stickied in the development section).
Move your ROM.zip file to the root directory of your phone first. Then put the boot.img file in the root directory of your computer since it's already in the windows path. that's " C:\ " Since you already have Hasoon's toolkit installed we'll use that instead of putting you thru the ADB installation right now for time & simplicity's sake.
Go to Windows Explorer & navigate to the folder you have his toolkit in and copy the name of the folder down EXACTLY. Then you can pull up your command prompt window again. When it initiates it will say C:\ sumpthin....sumpthin...sumpthin. From there type CD\ and it will "change directory" back to C:\ THEN you can type cd\ "whatever you named the folder that has Hasoon's toolkit in it".
That will take you to that folder just like explorer will do. Just let it sit there for a second.
On your phone in Recovery you wipe user data/ factory reset 3 times then you can....
Wipe cache 3 times and toggle down to "Advanced"
That will take you to another screen where you will see "Dalvik Cache"
Wipe that 3 times as well.
Then hit "Go back" & return to the previous screen & select "install zip from SD card"
Once complete leave your phone sitting & still plugged in to the usb
NOW....go back to your computer and type....
reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
Once your phone reboots, leave it alone for 5 minutes to let everything settle in and you should be "good to go".

I was on 1.85, but couldn't get it to root no matter how many times I tried. I updated to 2.2 and was able to successfully root and unlock. I decided to install this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804223. I flashed the boot img from the boot loader. After I flashed it, I tried to reboot into recovery from ADB, but it said the device was not connected. So I went ahead and rebooted the device. I got back to the boot loader and booted into recovery from there. At that point, I mounted the sd card and copied over the zip file of the rom and the gapps. I unmounted the phone and installed the rom and gapps and rebooted. Now im stuck on the Initiating swagger screen. It just sits on this screen and looks like its loading, but nothing happens. Any ideas as to what I have done wrong??
Thanks in advance.

TWRP is recovery. You don't need to flash a recovery.
Also, you are not even remotely bricked. If the screen turn on, the phone is not bricked, and is usually easily recoverable. Not knowing what to do is not being "bricked" or "partially bricked". It just means you need to read more.
You may just need to flash boot.img using fastboot. ViperXL is supposed to flash boot.img within the AROMA installer (even on hboot 1.14), but it doesn't always work for everyone.
Also, be sure to factory reset (within TWRP, not in hboot) and also wipe Dalvik and cache (also in TWRP) before installing the any new ROM, as failure to do so can also result in bootloops. Don't ever factory reset in hboot, since it will corrupt the SD card, and you will have to reformat using your computer if that happens.
No offense, but it seems you lack some understanding of basic concepts (what recovery is, how to run RUU), and it would probably be a good idea to read and learn more before flashing anymore ROMs or doing any more mods. Failure to fully understand the things you are doing to your phone can result in a real brick (which you do not have).
I stayed up till late this morning trying to help him and last I heard he installed a Rom without flashing g apps package. I have tried to correct the issue but have not heard anything else. Please take the time to research what you are doing before flashing a Rom. Soft bricks are really tricky.

TWRP is recovery. You don't need to flash a recovery.
Also, you are not even remotely bricked. If the screen turn on, the phone is not bricked, and is usually easily recoverable. Not knowing what to do is not being "bricked" or "partially bricked". It just means you need to read more.

I know the ViperXL 3.1.0 will install with aroma on hboot 1.14. Any newer version will need to a flash boot image using fastboot or gui just to be safe.
This tool will allow you to easily change MID directly from custom recovery (without ENG HBOOT!!!).
YOU MUST BE S-OFF!
Before using this tool you need to be sure you are using latest version of custom recovery (TWRP or CWM). The current downloads for both CWM and TWRP can found below:
The latest M7 U/UL TWRP can be downloaded HERE. I recommend using TWRP 2.6.3.3.
The latest M7 U/UL CWM can be downloaded HERE.
This will work for Intarnational version, GE, T_Mobile, AT&T and Verizon but NOT TESTED for SPRINT DEVICE!!!
To use this tool please copy zip file to your phone and then boot into custom recovery and choose Install. Then browse to where you copied zip file and select it. Aroma installer will begin. Choose options you want to run.
There will be created backup of original block on /sdcard before making changes.
Please save this backup on your computer (in case of restore) .
Reboot into bootloader after installing and check your new modelid (MID):
Code:
fastboot getvar mid
The echo command can be problematic in aroma, but I solved these problem.
I tested this tool! Everything works!
If AROMA Installer stops at 0% then you must to press Power button and hold 15-17 seconds to reboot. Then go into recovery and start installation again. This will help you.

any idea why the aroma installer never moved passed 0.00%? Any way I can boot up? Stuck on the aroma installer
***Edit***
Nevermind. I got out of Aroma installer
I recommend using TWRP 2.6.3.0
If AROMA Installer stops at 0%, then you must to press Power button and hold 15-17 seconds to reboot. Then again go to recovery and start installation. This will help.
Hey, thank you for your work. But i have questions why would i want to change MID? What is the difference between MIDs?

Just wanted to say thank you for your work bro. I am such a noob when it comes to changing MID's and this did the trick for me. Highly appreciate it! :highfive:
Golv, just wanted to say thanks. And I would reiterate his point that you need TWRP 2.6.3.0 for this to work.
Hello and I wanted to say it works! for me i work on ClockWork Mod.:good::good:
If I go supercid and supermid can I then get updates not intended for my country? Can I use this tool on Htc one max?

No, you can't. If you change mid and sid for another country, you must change rom and firmware for this country to receive OTA.

I don't know partition table of HTC One Max, so I can't give advice.
If partition table is identical to HTC One (M7), then you can use this tool.
Thanx Glov,

fastboot oem rebootRUU => ok
fastboot flash zip "filename.zip" It says " (remote: 12 signature verify fail") in the end cmd
What should i do now?
Thanks for reading and help me pls!!!!
Ok, first mistake is that you thought you needed to be rooted to flash the Viper ROM, you don't. All you need is an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery, which you had. You were probably stuck in the bootloader because you forgot to flash the boot.img from the ROM zip with fastboot, you need to do this because you're s-on.
The next mistake you made was attempting to flash an OTA. I don't know what made you think that you could do that but it definitely wasn't found in this forum (or anywhere for that matter). An OTA is only a partial OS, it relies on the correct stock OS to already be installed on the device to build on top of to update the existing OS. It failed for obvious reasons.
Unlock your bootloader again, flash a custom recovery again, and flash the ROM again. Make sure you flash the boot.img this time and it should boot right up. I'd strongly recommend you read the Evita FAQ thread and the How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature. Diving into modifying your device without the proper level of knowledge is a really bad idea.

Did you perform a factory reset from the bootloader at some point? If so you've corrupted your sd card, you should never perform a factory reset from the bootloader. If this is the case you'll need to use TWRP to wipe your sd card, then you should be able to mount it to Windows and use Windows Explorer to format. Once this is done you can for a ROM across again.
Exactly which build of Viper did you try to flash? What's the exact filename? Did you check the md5 before flashing?

yes, i did it more than once, now it's fixed, but when i mount it to Windows using TWRP, nothing happen, so i can't format it. and the same things when i tried to sideload. But in fastboot mode, it usual.
and i flashed the newest rom in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1868236 ViperXL 4.2 and i didn't check the MD5
back to my previous question, can i fash a custom rom without root?
I asked for the exact filename of the ROM for a reason, I need that please. Also, exactly which recovery are you using?
Sent from my Evita
Yes, you can flash a custom Rom without root. He already answered that. I strongly recommend reading up on your device before flashing anything else. I'd suggest starting with getting your phone s-off.

I disagree. I think it's a better idea for him to get his head around the simple operations like flashing ROMs before attempting s-off.

And you should always check the md5 of anything you're about to flash. You should do that now to make sure the file isn't corrupt.
