[Q] I finally rooted my HTC explorer, what now? - HTC Pico (Explorer)

what made me root my explorer was the fact of the low internal memory and i after i found out i could use a partition on my sd card to use as internal memory i started to search for more info.
But its too confusing what ROM do i use if i need one how to setup the partitions etc.
what do they mean to wipe everything before inserting a new rom do they mean the phone the sd card.
I could use some help lol
thx in advance
brigas

Partition your sd card and create ext 2/3/4 partition using mini partition tool in computer.
Wiping everything means to format everything thing like cache partition, dalvik cache, system, boot, data partition SD ext ..... In recovery.
Don't format SD card.
Here you can select ROMs, scripts, kernels and tutorials for much more.

yeah i am currently checking that thread i used one of the links to root my phone. but now i kinda nervous on doing the next steps. i already did a backup of my sd card and my rom i think with the ClockworkMod recovery, So correct me if im wrong the next steps are:
Delete data from sd card and partition it into 4 partitions. with that partition mini tool
do a factory reset on the phone( i suppose is how u wipe everything)
and then use recovery to put the new Rom of my choosing.
is this right?

Follow this for creating ext partition.
Create only Only one ext partition.
http://www.noypigeeks.com/android/tutorial-a-guide-to-link2sd/
For flashing ROM, follow the instructions given on the thread of the ROM.
Basic method is
Reboot into recovery.
Format/wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache in advance(menu)
Format SD ext, system, boot, in mounts and storage.
Now select install zip from SD card/chose zip from SD card/navigate to your ROM's directory/select it and yes to confirm.
Wait. After it says install from SD card completed. Reboot the phone.
You are done.
First boot of every ROM may take a little long. Wait and don't panic.
Some ROMs needs mounting ext, data, cache etc. Check the thread for that. I hope it'll help to get started.
Hit "THANKS". If this helped.

thx a lot man. Finally an explanation i can follow, thanks a lot guy i really appreciate it.
And if you dont mind me asking, what ROM are u using or had best experience with?

I Am using flyROM v3 here. But I suggest not to go with it as it lags and have random reboots.
I suggest use jaggy ROM by jaggy/danceoff.
If you've rooted your phone using jaggy's tutorial, you are already on "yannou's recovery". This recovery is perfect. No issues At all but you can change it to TWRP for touch support and some more features. But I suggest be on yannou's recovery.(because some are having problems with TWRP flashing sense 4 ROMs )

Have a look at this too.
You'll get some sense about working in recovery.
How to flash ROMs.
The method for flashing is almost the same for every ROM.

cool guys i did it. thx for all the help, i sucessfully Put jaggy ROM working. Now that i understand the process involved should i try and a better rom v4? what apps are cool for rooted phones?

Now after getting some sense about flashing. You can try other ROMs as well. Just wipe everything and flash.
Use titanium backup, root explorer, must have apps for rooted one.
Hit "THANKS". It encourages me.

Try
Cm 9,1 build11 man
or
cm9 Xperia fusion (Looks great)
This is best for u start with lag less Rome

[Q] Samsung GS+ - 1st rom install

Hi guys, first post from me. I wish i could post this in the proper thread, but since i am new i am not allowed, so excuse me for the inconvenience.
I want to use custom roms to enhance my phone, i've been reading up in this forum and some video's on youtube. I've already rooted my phone before, so that part is out of the way.
Now here is my phone setup:
- Samsung Galaxy S Plus
fw= 2.3.5
baseband= I9001BOKP1
kernel= [email protected]#1
build= GINGERBREAD.BOK4
carrier= T-Mobile
- External SD Card, 486 MB
I just used the SD Card from my old Samsung phone (G-600)
The thing is, i have used Apps2SD to set apps to my SD card (the external one)
1.A: So if i am going to backup will that also be stored back to my SD after i format it?
1.B: Or is external SD card formatting not required for a fresh clean install?
The ROM i want to use is Cranium RC9
As i understand this ROM comes with a kernel as well, so..
2: should i do anything kernel related? (since it's my first time to install a ROM and all)
And finally..
3: What is the correct method for a 1st time/clean ROM installation?
If i look at the 1st post of the Cranium ROM thread, then i see install methods if you already have RC8. And the other method is for installing RC4. Please don't tell me i have to go through all the RC's to get to RC9 o_0
Thanks for at least reading this and hopefully some one can help me further on this
1.A When you backup, choose internal SD since backup has about 1GB of size if you have lots of apps. Go to feamod recovery 1.4, backup and restore then backup to internal sd card. When you finish ROM flashing restore your apps only in advanced restore.
1.B I don't think you have to format external sd, anyway you can back it up too.
2. I don't think so. The rom comes with a kernel..
3. For fresh ROM installation, Format system, data, and cache. You can also wipe dalvik cache. Then flash using ODIN or CWM, depending on the file. Reboot system and you can restore data only after going to cwm again.
You can also read fabsau's starter guide in our forum(i9001)..
In my opinion, try broodROM, comes with skyhigh kernel, ICS theme, beats audio, smoother scrolling and more..
If this helped press THANKS

Thanks this was helpful to me

4. i read that partition can also be done with recovery menu.. is that true. if yes. how to do that.. i read partition for s2e(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859691- here) what about link2sd.. can we partion for link2sd by(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29724634&postcount=3 ) with that can we do.. will it work for cm9.1.
5. i read instruction for for flashing cm9.1 rom. there are two different methods which one to follow.
Installation
First time installing CyanogenMod 9 to your Htc Explorer/Pico, or coming from another ROM:
- Make sure you're running a proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery
- Copy GApps and CM9 ZIPs to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM9 zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Reboot
- Don't restore data using Titanium Backup! they might cause FC's
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible! (metioned in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29938916) or (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33608084&postcount=2897).

Guide
Hey there
1. The battery life depends on how you use your phone. If you’re connected to a 3G network all day while playing or watching videos, the battery won’t last that long. For casual everyday use, the battery is great. I didn’t charge it for 2 days once
2. Yes, you can flash through yannou’s recovery but it would be ideal if you flash CWM recovery since it’s recommended. If you partition your sd card, it will be automatically formatted so its best if you back up your data, partition the sd card and then copy all the files. You can partition using CWM and then install Link2sd which, when opened, it will prompt you with the file system of your sd ext. Choose ext3 and reboot. The partition itself isn’t needed for cm9.1 but you can you a2sd scripts if you’re partitioned.
3. To flash it, download the rom and gapps. Put them in the sdcard. Then boot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset, go to advanced -> wipe dalvik. Then install zip from sd card and find the rom. After you flash the rom, flash the gapps and reboot. Give it a few minutes since the first boot takes some time. And there you go

No, no, stick with yannou's! Official cwm sometimes give's mounting issues with our phone, and sometimes if you drain fully your battery you'll get in to adventure.
Yes flashing process is the same, basikly everything is the same as cwm
Install ROM Manager on your phone and the first option should be to install Clockworkmod Recovery. Follow the instructions on screen. I'd use yannou's recovery though.
Yes, the instructions are the same for yannou's recovery.
And yes, I've used cm9.1 for over 2 months. I'm using HTC sense 4.0a rom by derefas right now

its depends upon Ur need man. If Ur going to use internal memory increasing script u must have an 2nd partition in Ur SD card. ext2/3/4 is depend upon the memory script and ROM Ur going to use..
My Suggestion:
Try m2sd script with ext4 partition its work like a charm.. but i read from some post ext4 will damage SD sooner. but perform better. i am always need performance. but i am sure that till now no damage or performance issue occurred in my SD card as well as phone.
before or after partition is ur choice when u need partition u do it. But some ROM need 2nd partition while flashing be careful on that but cm9.1 doesn't need any support from sd card

3.install ROM zip then install GAPPS zip.
4.Then reboot..
5.wait until u get the home screen.. first boot take some time so be patient
6.After that leave Ur phone for a minute then once again restart Ur phone.
7. final but important click thanks to the Developer and other who help u to install the ROM successfully..

thanq u all.. but i have some clarification about partiton only.. can anybody give me guide about partitons for CM9.1 . which is best, simple and error free, wheather to go partition then flashing or flashing then partition.. and plz give me guide thru recovery.. and where its pre or post flashing.. pls do needful..
edit :
im unable to figure it out abot s2e scripts, int2sd scripts.. so please tell me actually what are those and how the linked with ext2/3/4 partitioms..
Its simple if ur using recovery for partition u will lose all the data in SD card. So use mini partition wizard tool for make partition.. after or before flashing is does not matter if u going to add memory script then partition memory card... then add the rom zip then flash it..

As much as i remember, Older builds of CM9.1 had battery drain problems. It has been rectified in the latest builds (Aleast have been rectified in build 10 and 11)
I say you go for CM9.1 Build 11 by ayushrox. I am using it right now. I run my phone with extensive Music usage for 1 and half to 2 days. I have once kept my phone running without charge for 3 days. Right now as i type, i am off the charger for 12 hours, still i have 55% battery remaining, this is good for me, as i use an always on internet.
I never used CWM. I use a different recovery (i dont know its name), and i flash using it successfully.
I use Link2SD with a partition i made BEFORE the installation. I use Minitool Partition Wizard to create partitions. It is for Windows.
I always ask people to do a clean install. This would eradicate any issues in the future.

When you create a partition in your memory card, open Link2SD. Link2SD will ask you the partition type, select and tap ok. The app creates mount script by itself.
Link2SD is a 500KB app at the Play Store.

I never used Mount2SD and never will, cos link2sd works well for me.
Here is what i did:
1. Partition microSD with format ext2. (I used Minitool Partition Wizard for this. A freeware program for Windows)
2. Insert it in the phone, download Link2SD from Play Store.
3. Open Link2SD, it will prompt you to select your partition type. Select ext2.
4. Link2SD will create a mount script and ask you to restart the phone. Do so.
5. After restart, go back to Link2SD, press menu button to open menu.
6. Open "Settings". Make sure "Auto link" is ticked.
7. Exit Link2SD, do a restart.
Thats it! now whenever i install an app, Link2SD sends it to the partition automatically.
Sometimes you may get a phone memory full notification. In that case power off your phone and on it again.
EDIT: all this was done with CM9.1 previously installed.
So what are steps to install cm9.1.
Is it necessary to clear dalvik cache.

Now i plan to install the JaggyRom 4.0.3 on my HTC Explorer. Do you think its a good idea ?
I only have a 2GB SD Card , is there any requirement that i have to convert at least 1GB to ext partition before installing the ROM.
Any other things which you would suggest i take care of before proceeding ?
Thanks a lot
Give link to rom which you wan't to install.
Especially Jaggy 4.0.3 was GB with sense 3.5 I THINK, so you don't need 1gb ext, even 512 will do. If it's ICS with sense 4 you need 1gb ext.
My advice: Don't worry if first time it stucks on white htc screen, if this happens, just try wiping everything again and flash again.
And another thing you can download this http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?lim1od8qrjdbblp you flash it before you flash the rom, it wipes everything by it self, I'm not sure how it works with sense 4, but for every athor rom it's fine.
Hi,
sorry not allowed to post the links yet.
androidforums[dot]com/explorer-all-things-root/656605-rom-sense-jaggyrom-4-0-3-12-10-12-a[dot]
please edit the link
I think i shall try this one now, and once i get the knack of it , i'll buy myself a bigger memory card and try ICS
Please let me know if i should go forward with it.
Thanks for the help .
Uff ya, forgot about links restriction, with this one you don't need more than 512mb of ext. Just don't forget to flash 'wi-fi fix' after install and follow the instructions.
With this one you also can use the 'superwipe.zip' that I've posted in the previous post, instead of wiping everything manually, whichever suits you best.
Also if you wan't you can check out cm9, it's ICS and its stable, for it you don't need 1gb ext partition. Well that's it, have fun

If you want to keep your Rom pure stock then flash the one by immortal_yash with ext support. It's smoother then jaggyrom 4.0.3 for me or you can flash cm9.1 build 14 . It's your choice so try and use the one which is best for you...

I have installed the JaggyRom 4.0.3 as of now (will try ICS, next after a while) . What i wanted to know if what next can i do with my phone?
I had created a ext4 partition , but can't see it now. Should i install link2SD ?
Also can i overclock my mobile (rather should i do it ? ) and also can the internal memory be used as RAM
Sorry the questions are pretty novice but then i am one

1. Make ext3 partition
2. Do not overclock... you can /rather will cause permanent damage
3.you don't need to use internal memory as ram ~if you do, it may reduce life of SD card

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
What i observed was that the phone started restarting after i had run the following command (to enable ext4 to be used as part of internal memory):
Code:
su
m2sd rmount enable
so i again ran
Code:
su
m2sd rmount disable
after which it stopped restarting. Any pointers what could be the reason for this ? I have a 2GB card, not sure which class , but since it came with the phone i believe it should be class 2 or class 4
Type in terminal emulatur 'm2sd status'
It will show what is enabled, answers will come.
And did you used superwipe.zip, or manually wiped everything. And normally it's better ext partition to be ext2 or ext3.

Well have you removed the sd card while the phone was on?.....If thats the case then you may have to reflash the rom....
Also download roms from xda itself because it is posted by the original devs themselves and you get better support.
Consider using jaggy 4.1 by me....

No i did not.
After i ran this
Code:
m2sd rmount disable
the phone stopped restarting.
Okies , i'll try jaggy 4.1 ,
but are there any limitations of the memory card that i have to take care of ?
And will i loose the data again ?
Thanks.
Edit : Not sure if its releavant, but i can't connect to the memory card by using the "Disk Mode" from the mobile.
Can someone shed some light on the differences between JaggyRom and cm ??

thanx buddy i done wid this now can u tell me how to flash custom roms
Flashing ROM is pretty much easy .
Take a backup of data first , as you'll lose data on internal memory.
If you have flashable zip then put zip file in SD card, reboot into TWRP or CWM, wipe cache and data.
flash zip file from SD card, and wipe dalvik cache. Done.
One thing don't say thanks on post, just press thanks button if i help you

Dont forget to flash a gapp too that is for your google play.
I had no problem with CWM until now but I needed an ext4 partition for a rom (slimkat) and CWM failed.
I then installed 4ext and everything worked. (except the ROM on my phone hehe)
So if you need an ext4 partition for your rom, I would not recommend CWM based on my experience.

It's an HTC Sensation. I tried first with CWM and rom manager. But the partition was not recognized when installing (Slimkat) .
Then, I found this about creating partition: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2125513
Where you can read:
These two methods are the best ones to use. Other means could result in sd-card damaging, or other problems. Do not use:
ROM Manager, CWM Recovery, Windows Minitool Partition Wizard etc.

And for me it happened to be true
(The SD was not damaged, just the partition not working).

PM the OP for that version.. I guess the thread's already closed because there's no links.. And I also found that your device has no support (officially, at least) for CMW v6.x.x.x. Sorry man.

The "partition" you're talking about there is SD partition, right? To use that partition you must format the partition's file system to ext4, not fat32 (default SD file system). Maybe it "didn't work," just the in the wrong file system.

Yes, correct. The conclusion is that I was able to make a correct ext4 partition with 4ext recovery only, I thought it could be useful to the OP regarding his question about CWM.

Except that all phone partitions are ext4 by default. It's the phone partitions OP is concerned of, not SD partitions. I think..
Are you saying that some recoveries have different file systems other than ext4?

He asked if the steps to install kitkat are the same and more info about CWM. I just explain the problem I had when I did exactly what the OP wants to do, in the same situation.
It would crash during the install because there was no ext4 partitions on the sdcard. I don't know why, this part I don't understand. I never had to do something like that until now. So after investigating the matter I realised that I had to create an ext4 partition (1GB) on my SD card. (it had 1 Fat32 partition)
I tried with different tools. CWM included. They failed. I stepped upon the post I mentioned before. I installed 4ext. I created a 1GB ext4 partition on the SD Card. The install was successful and I enjoy my phone again with KitKat. (but in the end I removed Slimkat due to some bugs and installed this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2530073, which works perfectly so far)
That's all about my experience installing a kitkat based rom which is the OP goal. As mentioned before, I don't know why it needed this ext4 partition for the installation. My knowledge does not go that far, but the result is there.

since u flashed kitkat in ur htc sensation and u hav done it right, u can guide me to do so......
here is what i understood regarding the kitkat rom
i have to to do partition of my SD card (the link was helpful !!!)
CWM version does not do any help for kitkat rom (i guess !! am still confused about CWM recovery because the link for one v's CWM 6.0 is dead and in Kitkat rom's link it does not say anything or about the CWM version how to flash it )
my question is
after partition, did you completed the "using the ext partition" and then you flashed it using CWM and what version of CWM did you use ?
and my CWM version is 5.8 should i use it to flash kitkat (without getting bricked) ??
Sorry for asking so many question. My roms thread does not have the details that i generally find in other thread. I want to flash Kitkat so badly.
It does not matter if the rom works or not, still its worth a shot. just want to make sure i do everything right from my side without damaging my handset.

Sorry.. Even I don't understand the question anymore. But as far as I know, ext4 partitions on an SDcard is never related to flashing ROMs.. It is only used for Link2SD and such..
Yes, so, somehow it looks like during the installation, these Kitkat roms were expecting an ext4 partition on the SD Card.
If you look in Internet, you can find things like that for example:
(Damn, my xda noob account does not let me post links, search youtube and use this video ID: ?v=bUMhn6geaUM
They talk about this ext4 partition on the SD card, why they do it and what they use to do it. (Partition Magic)
Maybe if I had just removed my SD card , the install script would not have tried to use the SD card, but let's not add more confusion
As I said, CWM (I had 5.8) did not work to create a correct ext4 partition on my SD Card. (the install failed again)
The funny thing is I even paid 2$ for CWM xd
I replaced CWM by 4ext recovery. website: 4ext.net (install the 4EXT Recovery Updater)
Then I created the ext4 partition on the SD Card and both kitkat roms I tried were installed successfully.
(In 4ext recovery, install from zip, select your rom zip, go.)
btw, I backed up everything before (but I guess it's obvious) , once, I had to reinstall my backup from recovery because it would not boot.
