Ubuntu for Tablets and the Transformer Infinity - Asus Transformer TF700

I noticed that Ubuntu Touch is build for armhf devices, how long would it take to get it to work on the Infinity?

But seriously, I think it won't take long before someone gets the job done. Lets hope so.

Considering we already have Ubuntu 12.10 available for run on the TF700 I would imagine it won't take much to get Ubuntu Phone/Tablet running. I am going to give it a shot once the porting guide is released tomorrow.

I hope it'll be here soon.
but the question is, will it work with the keyboard dock?

Of course it will work. Keyboard is just another text input method, the software just needs to hide the onscreen keyboard.

i hope this update solves my camera issue i really dont wanna return this
im told it will start rolling out first of next week, as soon as monday
I don't 100% love the transformer, but it is awesome. I do love how Asus is really putting a solid effort in. I've been pretty impressed at them staying on top of stuff.
for my 2nd gen tablet, I'll want something with a little less bezel... aka a tablet that isn't designed around a keyboard dock
Good work Asus!
yeah they been pretty good about the support I also like how they been puttting the updates on the asus website
I am not 100% impressed with honeycomb. But Google is willing to roll the dice and figure it out after release. I am sure 6 months from now we will all be very happy.
Lol that's how everything is now. Manufacturers so eager to get to the market half the time the roll off products halfway done and fix things as they go.
Must be close to done if they're sending it to the press.

I think you mean released, at least when I hear the term "dropped" it means it's been cancelled.
I thought it's canceled
Same here. I have just read the other thread in General about 3.1 and then I saw this one on Dev subforum and thought... Have they already dropped it? But if it's not still out...
Until I opened the thread and read it.
Regards.
Id love for it to come out monday but as a working man, in all reality, monday is memorial day, wtf would they release it on a holiday?

They should review the fixes that were applied.

Dropped in the younger generation means it is released. This comes from the music industry..
i thought it was cancelled as well, but phew! im very glad to see that asus is right on the ball with the updates, worse thing is when you get a beautiful piece of hardware and then find out you have no support for it, good on ya asus!

Burning CD's with Android

So I've pretty much replaced my laptop with my transformer. Yea my laptop has a 17 inch screen, but to be honest with you its so big I never wanted to take it anywhere! Isn't a laptop supposed to be PORTABLE? I feel like I can (and should) take the TF everywhere. It seems tiny when docked, but just right when used as a tablet.
I love it.
The only thing stopping me from selling my laptop at this point is that I need to burn CD's occasionally. Is there any app out there that can access an external burner so that I can make CD's from music I have stored on my external drive?

Probably more a matter of time, at least if there's interest in it, but might be a long time. Didn't Honeycomb just add USB host support? I don't think it would've been possible before that.

Not necessarily at all, not all manufacturers provide Linux drivers for their hardware (Android is linux underneath it all). As well, I'm not sure exactly how Linux drivers work, but each CD burner might need their own set of drivers
If the iso drivers are in the kernel, the system will know about cd/dvd disks and drives. The issues is a program to do the burning.

So I plugged in my external DVD writer, and the kernel currently is not reconigzing it.
So that is step 1, someone adding the drivers into the kernel.
After that, it is simly a matter of re-building cdrecorder and mkisofs for an ARM target and writing a little UI on top of it.

I would dust the laptop back off......There are not enough devs or support for at least another 2 yrs to have a bug free Android OS. Also you have the first model of about 15 major tabs in the next 2 yrs! Just because it has a docking station means nothing. Don't get me wrong i love Android.....but leaving windows 7 and coming up 8????? Not to mention all the bugs because its a "beta" product. Actually i wouldn't even call this Alpha..Android OS should of release a GOOGLE laptop first with all the correct hardware specs and almost bug free before letting anyone put there OS on a tablet and sell it...Every Honeycomb tablet that has been made has issues. And its the hardware not being fully compatible.

If you replaced android with another operating system on your post, that can apply to any OS system on the planet. Be it windows, osx, Linux or what ever a company puts out. Not one OS or hardware is immune. Perfect software only happens when it's on the drawing board. The longer android is out the better it gets..but honeycomb has been out a very short time and is only on 5 percent of the devices running google OS. There are more then enough developers for it.
I'm looking for an external dvd burner to work with the TF also. Seems like a lot of TF owners are looking too. Hopefully someone with xda will develop the software...
Not exactly what you want but it might help
Check out this product.....It adds an extra step and it would be kinda kludgy at best.......It is a standalone cd burner.
http://www.cyberguys.com/product-details/?productid=11177
They also have a DVD burner. There may be others out there as well. I have been wanting this as well and don't really want to spend extra to get the capability right now at least.
Awesome! Definitely a solid solution. And a great idea in general! Thanks for the info

technically you don't need any of those things you listed to burn a cd in linux, all you need is the command line.

I don't think he's looking to reboot into a full-blown Ubuntu environment (where nothing else works) just to burn a DVD... The whole point of this thread is to get Android-native tools to do the burning - not setup some half-working OS to do the task...
I don't see what the Unix "cdrecord" and "mkisofs" utilities can't be ported over to Android. Although, I don't have the skills to do that, so maybe it's not such a trivial task...

[Q] Asus Eee Pad Transformer B80 root

Hello everyone.
I know there have been many threads concerning this topic but there does not really seem to be any improvement. My question concretely is, is there anyone currently working on a root for the b80? Or is it impossible to hack the root key?
If there is someone working on the rooting, is there an estimated date available.
Just so you know, I did actually search many many many topics on this subject but nobody seems to be able to give something concrete.
Anyway, I hope someone has some solid answers
Sincerely,
Incapable
Actually, I wasn't able to root it and though to return it back before 14 days pass, so got the Samsung GT P7510 instead and rooted it in 2 minutes , got the HDMI adapter and getting the USB stick adapter soon. IT is better screen resolution, brighter and lighter. 2 days running (without charging-only one charge) only 10% (interrupted use with stand buy mode) of battery life used. The transformer , B80,will be hard to root, so be patient.
...and any breakthrough in development will certainly be revealed first within the eee pad transformer forums.

Ok, great, but i don't see any reason to replace it with a samsung, the resolution is actually equal to the transformer, cannot agree with the brightness. I can run it for 16 hours full operating and that is more than enough for me. Anyway to stay a little on topic. I know the b80 will be hard to root, that is exactly why i created the thread.

Most probably, but maybe someone had found something somewhere else. Since there has been no update in 2 months about this I thought it might be time to just ask once more.
Here is a comparison table, 7510 has better color depth and Screen Readability in Bright Light is better.
There is a table at displaymate.com/Tablet_ShootOut_1.htm#Recommendation_3
Have a look at it.

Agreed, our friend incapable is asking if there has been any news on rooting a B80 Transformer, s/he is not asking for advice/comparison for acquiring another tablet.
It is unfortunate there hasn't been any updates floating around or any indication that it is still being worked on even. Let's just hope that we'll see some news soon. I wonder if the TF Prime will have the same SBK and if it does that should actually benefit us because there will be a flurry of new Devs attempting to root it.

Indeed, my first guess will be that the TF Prime will indeed have the same bootloader since, as far as i have seen, did not actually change anything about the software at all. It seems to be they have only made hardware changes.
Let's just hope for the best.
I don't know if I can wait for that release...
I may have to resort to flashing an older version like B70. I think there is a way to go backwards.
Have had stock rom for long enough!
Which developers are working on this? Is anyone? I'd hate to think that everyone was standing around waiting on something that no one is working on
I have a locked transformer as well, and I'd like to contribute... who should i talk to?
Razorclaw v1 to root
hey guys, today i found new way to root asus transformer ( B70/80 ) . That's Razorclaw v1 in androidroot.mobi ( i'm new user and can't post link in message, plz google it )
It works well on my transformer but it needs firmware update ( 8.6.5.19 OTA update ) . i'm not expert about android and so if you interested, check the link for further information. good luck guys...
A little hard to root it.

Razorclaw is available on the Android market. It is a simple, 1-click rootingt tool for the Asus Transformer. Installs SU and busybox. Confirmed working on my B80—WW

[Q] Should I buy an Infinity or should I wait?

Long term lurker here, first time posting.
I want a tablet for school but not necessarily to write notes on it and such. I want to read my textbooks on the tablet or do homework problems from the PDF textbooks. I also want a tablet that I can have fun with during my downtime.
I remember watching the Prime to see if it would ever get fixed. I know the GPS on that didn't work and the wifi would drop off. I don't really plan on using the GPS feature on the Infinity but I'll end up relying on the wifi a lot. Is the wifi feature fixed with one of the updates?
I know some about android since I rooted my old EVO and I flashed ROMs constantly. I wouldn't mind doing that with the Infinity since what I've read is the CleanROM+Data2SD+a kernel makes this tablet pretty snappy.
I've read that in order to flash a rom, one has to get the boot loader unlocked and that voids the warranty. How long should I wait for physical problems to arise from the tablet?
What kind of problems have you had with your tablet?
Got my tablet this summer ..only problem i have with it is the squeaky sound it makes when i squeeze it. Other than that the tablet is smooth ! I saved 100s of dollars on textbooks. I dowloaded pdf versions and put then on my tab. I love this thing wouldn't trade it for anything. Except maybe a surface pro

As in flashing roms or is it stock? Do you have any physical problems (pixels are messed up, casing is falling apart, etc)?
I use mine for Uni. It doesn't fully cover everything I need it to do, but that's just because it can't run the adobe CS5/6 package. (PS touch is all fun and well, but highly under-qualified for a graphic designer.)
For documents, reading, internet and entertainment, it's excellent. The massive storage and keyboard are a definite plus. I have two 32gb MicroSD's, one in the tab and one in an adapter in the dock, so I can exchange them when I need something from the 2nd one without connecting the dock.
I'm one of the lucky ones in this board, as mine's flawless.

Yeah, it sounds like it's barely even able to work as a phone. We'll have to see how quickly they are working on it. Hopefully it'll be actually usable before too long.
Unfortunately, I'm STILL trying to pull the source. I mean, it's ridiculously slow. I'm under 100 KBps now. I was hoping to get something running today because I don't know that I'll have time to work on it over the weekend. We'll have to see.
Update: Yeah, some 5-6 hours later we're STILL downloading. Nothing for today. I'm going to try to get back to it tomorrow or Sunday if I have time. Hopefully by then it will have finished downloading, haha.

Hoping to get my computer up and running as soon as I can get some parts ordered. I can't really be upset, I've been using that system for over 5 years now and it's been running like a damn champ! Goodbye ridiculously old Opteron 165. Maybe one of these other guys might have an interest in getting it running.
