for those of us who just want to remove bloatware and sideload and not mess with losing all of our data and resetting all our apps?
Is anyone even working on a root without goldcard method anymore?
And, if I go ahead and do this with Bubby's method, how do I make sure all my stuff gets backed up before the process because titanium backup doesn't work non-rooted?

As for backup, I'm not quite sure at all, but you might need to piece together apps.
I used android to export my contacts to sim, file master to backup my app apks, and just flew with it. If you have anything else important, look for an app to back it up, or if you know how, copy to your computer real quick.
Rooting for this phone sounds scary at first, but the process really 'felt' safe, and I gotta say, I wasn't scared at all during the process.

When he says "easy" I think he means like a one click method used on Galaxy S devices and such.

The exploit we have now works great, use Bubbys or the hack kit. I helped Bubby with a lot of the initial testing and his GUI overlay is about as easy as it's going to get, and he's also working on a few more things. Not for nothing though, the hack kit isn't that difficult to use either.

The easy one is Bubby's as for that hack kit unless you are good with Command Prompt entry then FORGET IT, Bubby's does all of the command prompt for you, all you do is enter two lines on the terminal emulator on the phone and there is a video on the first post of that thread that show's the complete method of his root procedure. It is the one I used and since I did it Bubby has made it even easier to use.
As for what you are asking well it will be a long wait before that ever happens at all.
I came from a Captivate to the Inspire, so I was a bit overwhelmed at first by rooting this phone. I just did bubbys root last night, and it was extremely simple. It does suck that you have to wipe your data, but i was back up and running exactly like before in less than an hour.
Now the radio stuff, i'm still a bit confused on that, reading up on it, but that seems a bit too risky for myself to mess with.
the ace hack kit was stupid easy, never tried bubby's method but it seems like it is even easier. There are easy methods, and backing up takes less than 5min of your time. give it a shot!
Bubby's is super easy, just follow the video included in the thread, and it's tough to go wrong. Took me maybe 30-45 minutes, minus the downloading of everything (which takes a lot longer than the actual process).
Short of a true "one click" it probably wont get any easier than it is now.And as far as a method without using a gold card Im doubting that will ever happen.

I completely agree!
Its ridiculously easy now! With so many people rooted and running custom roms, and the phone (inspire) only being available for a little over a month now, shouldn't that be proof?
The methods we have work well and the developers busted their asses to make them available to us in a very short time frame.
A few hours of reading will result in a successful root, don't skimp on the research if you're a newbie.
We were all there once, its just a matter of whether or not you want to stay a newbie... all the tools are in front of you though, you found a good place to start learning.

uh oh gunny's been eating the shnozberries again...
Why would you want an "easy" one click solution? Where is the fun in that? Where is the sense of accomplishment? The thrill of the hunt? Do you really have more important things to do than sit down for an hour and follow instructions? A one click solution is more likely to brick your phone - I don't know about you guys but I've seen some really shabby vb coders hanging out around here and I wouldn't trust my inspire with them.

This.. I can't even begin to know how many threads I read on rooting and now on new ROMs that come out. I was greener than grass when I first started with this stuff. Gunny knows. I'm by no means an expert but I'm way more comfortable doing this stuff now than a month ago. I tried both methods to root and one was easier than the other. Both will work as we all know at this point.
It took me two tries to root. Worst part was the Gold Card. Personally, I dislike anything one-click.

The gold card took 2 minutes. An app on the phone and an app on the pc, and a couple clicks.

Bubby's method essentially does the gold card for you. If you know how to copy, paste, and save an image from an email, you're pretty much golden.
Bubby's "one click" w/radio update
which ever rooting method you choose...each one includes the "PD98IMG.zip" rooted rom that ultimately becomes the finished poduct. (1) Simply download the radio you wish to flash (2) open the PD98IMG.zip file contained in the root method of your choice using winzip/winrar/7zip (3) replace "radio.img" file in there...with the one you wish to use & let it re-pack as normal (4) then run your rooting regiment & it will load the updated radio along with rom as it finishes up. Easy-Peachy & no scary "ENG S-OFF" to fret over! Hope that helps a little.
PS....this IS NOT theory.....I actually did this & it worked like a charm.....

There are two ways to root. Either will get you where you want to go. I used bubby's simple "one click" but the hack kit would work also. Whichever method you decide to use, read the entire thread, twice. More if you're slow like me. If you're gonna use bubby's method, watch the video, then read the thread again. I know it sounds like a lot of reading, that's because it is a lot of reading. Trust me, it's better to read before you start, than to search the thread in a panic if something goes wrong. It seems a little intimidating before you do it but after you've finished it seems like the difficulty was all in your head. Good luck.

Coming from a captivate which was wicked simple. The htc is a bit more complex. I read the sticky here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033353 Used the Ace Hack kit and was off and running with a rom 2 hrs after getting the phone.
Buddys looks pretty good as well. Ace was pretty straight forward.
I can't say much about Bubby's, but I believe it is relatively unsupported at this point and misleading in that it is far from "one-click". ATTN1 has done a tremendous job on the hack kit and as a special bonus, you can get real-time help at his IRC chat channel:

Definitely give my vote for attn1's hack kit. He has done an outstanding job and has updated it to the point where it is just too darn easy to use. Just read the "effen" manual so that you understand what is going on with the procedure and follow the instructions.

Read the manual in the attn1 hack kit. It is very easy. Just follow the instructions and you will have a gold card with no problems. Also, before starting any of the hack kits and downloading them, make sure all of your anti malware software is turned off. If you are still having issues then state specifically where you are stuck at so that I can help you out with that step.

Looking for someoe around charlotte,NC or Mooresville, NC that know how to root a Inspire 4G from At&T.
It's almost foolproof. If you're capable of reading and have the reading comprehension skills of a 6th grader, you should be able to do it yourself w/out issue and save some money.

I'm willing to bet you missed and skipped over something in the effen manual, either way the IRC chatroom is not just for show..if you're having a real problem, they are there to help..I really don't understand why people continue to ignore that
Its not as easy as rooting other phones, or at least didn't use to be, but now with the Ace Hack Kit, if you read the effen manual, its pretty much a one click process.

I used bubby's method. It wasn't a cake walk but I done it. Took me about 45 mins to do, but once done stays that way. I have changed my rom alot and love the ability to be rooted and have full control of my device.

Bubby's is outdated and should not be used...the new hack kit is unbelievably easy to follow so long as you read.
wow thats crazy, i actually used to live in Mooresville, i went to NTI. But i actually just switched from being an advanced iphone hacker to android and trust me im having to re-learn everything aswell. the effin manual tells u step by step how to do it, u just have to read the WHOLE thing. dont be lazy.
OP your lucky there are experienced people around here making the simplest root methods for us.
When the inspire came out I had to read for a few weeks to make sure I didn't eff up... Now after reading XDA for the past year I can do anything root related easily... Just Read!

Yep just use the ace root kit. I read a bunch of wikis and forum posts about making gold cards etc. then I found the root kit, ran it, and was done instantly.
Just don't do what I did and try to modify the tool. I tried to make it flash CM7 instead of the stock ROM and boot looped it. I just had to install the ROM via clockworkmod recovery but still it was scary for me as a noob.

OK this thread as gone far enough.
OP if you can't figure out how to root your phone then maybe it is not something you should be doing. Custom roms are not for average users. They take work and most people are just to busy to spend the amount of time it takes run a custom rom. Just food for thought.

Figured I don't know any other way to ask, but is there any possibility of a one-click root application for the HTC Inspire 4G? Being a Samsung Captivate user, I pretty much just used Odin OneClick for my phone and rooted it with ease, then put Miui 1.11.11 on my phone a little while after, and have been absolutely amazed by what my phone was capable of. Now a friend of mine wanted to root his phone and see if we could do the same, and I found that Miui is available for the HTC Inspire, but I don't really see much organization to the forums and haven't figured out how to flash it, or even root it for that matter.
Any suggestions?
P.S., his phone is currently on stock 2.3.3, HTC Sense 2.1, if that makes any difference.
AAHK is the only rooting game in town unless you want to do it all manually. It's as close to one-click as you're going to get for your stock 2.3.3.

Really no organization? The hack kit and stickies in each forum helps you easily navigate where you want to be. I hear searching is a great way to start . As Gene said, the hack kit is the only game in town. Seeing how you're no stranger to the root business, I still recommend (since I can't demand you to haha) to read the entire OP, the effen manual that is included and do some more searching before you attempt this. While Attn1 has done great work to make this pretty easy, it's far from a real one click like you're use to on the Cappy and should be taken a little more seriously. A lot of the issues people have when rooting the inspire stem from not reading for comprehension. If you do read for comprehension, you'll have no problem man! good luck!!

Agreed. Unless you are familiar with getting ubuntu set up and working then just using aahk on windows would be the easiest option.

The Hack Kit is so easy to use as long as you read. We already see so many threads open up with people complaining because they are stuck. They blame the Hack Kit but in reality it is their laziness. Imagine if everyone of those people had to use Ubuntu or the Ubuntu live cd? Yeah we would see so many more useless threads open up with people trying to root the phone when they can barely turn on the computer.

Yeah, I checked up on that, but I'm a little skeptical for only one reason. It seems like it's something I could probably figure out for him, but just to make sure, there's no "must" to having the ADB SDK or whatever installed, right? Because there've been a few mods or tweaks to the Captivate that required ADB to work, and my phone never showed up when using "adb devices" no matter what. I had no issues doing any other mods on my phone (and am currently using Miui 1.11.11 for it, although I probably should flash to one of the newer fixes), but ADB simply refuses to ever detect my phone.

Yeah. I read up on a lot of the posts, but it does feel significantly unorganized in comparison to the Captivate boards. I'unno, it may be because the Captivate is part of the Galaxy S series, which makes it a very popular phone for mods/tweaks, but I was able to find numerous ROMs for it and how to tweak everything, even skins on Swype, all within seconds. Here, I was like "...er, where's the thread explaining how to root your phone?" until I realized the only way to root it involves actually flashing a ROM in the first place, which I found a little awkward. But I guess HTC has it's limitations.

I actually have a physical copy of both Ubuntu and Kubuntu CD's, but I personally don't find that worth the hassle. I rarely restart my computer because I leave a lot of my IM clients, Steam, uTorrent, and other sorts of programs running in the background overnight, and there's no logic for me personally using an operating system I seldom use just for rooting process. It'd be frustrating for me. I know enough about Ubuntu to navigate, but I never understood the terminal, so I gave up on the OS.

Haha, yeah. That's where you don't have to worry. Unlike a lot of stubborn kiddies who think they know what they're doing before they even read the manual, then come here to complain, I'm the type to thoroughly read over instructions time and time again just to make sure I have it all figured out before I ever do anything. That way I know I'm doing exactly what I'm supposed to do, how I'm supposed to do it.
In the long run, there's a good chance I may not do it at all. While he does want his phone to run better, I don't feel comfortable potentially jeopardizing his phone's ability to even be used in case I do manage to do something wrong. Not to mention that Titanium Backup requires root to even work, and rooting the phone apparently involves flashing a ROM which would wipe out all the apps, so he'd have to reinstall every single app. It's just a little more of a hassle than I personally feel comfortable with, since it's not my device. But I definitely appreciate all the responses, and I'll definitely look over all the details and let him know what he'd need to do if he wants to work it over himself.
Once again, thanks for all the replies. I'm glad to see XDA is a mature, respectable community. Definitely brings a smile to my face to see a forum where I can actually get straight answers to a simple question.
On a captivate, windows won't see your phone in adb, unless you have the nexus s drivers installed. My windows computer wouldn't see My captivate on MIUI, but my Linux partition would.
Use the Ubuntu method.it's a lot easier than everything you have to do in windows. And drivers aren't a problem.

Not gonna quote it all, but the new hack kit doesn't require you to flash a rom anymore. It leaves your phone in the state it was before you ran it, only rooted and s-off.

I know a little about what is involved in the process and to be honest, it's complexity frightens me coming from a Galaxy S Vibrant. This phone doesn't have a removable battery so pretty much if I brick it I'm screwed. This is just my interpretation from scanning over the One S forums. I know somewhere out there is a method of securely unlocking my bootloader and rooting my phone without bricking it. I'm just a little pretentious about the whole complex process of it, rather than just simply using a One-click root program on my computer and then flashing CWM Recovery through ROM manager. All I need to know is.... how safe is rooting this phone, considering that it's bootloader is locked??
Rooting this phone is one of the safest phones to root as it is using an official HTC unlock tool. I recommend using the all in one kit in the development section as it holds your hand through the whole process

All my smartphones have been HTC, whether Android of Windows Mobile, so I don't know anything about rooting anything else (as far as easier or harder) but with the all in one tool mentioned above I don't think you'll have a problem. Even if you manage to seemingly erase everything on your phone there are instructions that will help you push a rom to your phone with a command line. And some, if not all, ROM developers take the time to write very detailed instructions how to install their ROMs. Just follow them step by step and take your time... good luck!

It's really easy, you just flash the official RUU for your region.
Thanks for the replies. I've slowly started to jump into unlocking my bootloader and I'm step-by-step getting closer to permanent root! Hopefully everything goes smoothly. I guess my main concern was since in the past I've hard-bricked atleast 3 Vibrant phones doing rooting and such, and I just don't want that to happen again. I can handle the soft bricks, but not the hardware bricks.
Rooting and flashing ROMs on One S is as simple as falling off a log if you're uaed to modding Nokia Symbian. No messing about with proprietary software like Phoenix or JAF. No worrying about if you have the right USB line.
The most difficult part of it is getting your head around how easy it is.
Of course if you've come from another droid, that's a different matter. This is my first.

I had no problem unlocking and rooting and I am a slow learner. I would read the several rooting threads in the dev section and see what method you prefer. Also, for these One S roms highly recommend TWRP recovery. And, find out what hboot version you have--
I hard reboot is holding down vol- and pwr at same time. After screen goes black wait a couple seconds and release only pwr. This is equivalent to pulling battery, which I did a lot on my N1.
