[Q] how do I downgrade my hboot (phone has s-off and is using 2.14)? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I got the S=OFF OTA 2.15

I am happy to announce that I got the S=OFF on OTA 2.15. I use moonshine http://www.moonshine.io method in Linux. I try in windows, but was unable to to remove the HTC Sync. It work in Linux. I use Linux Mint in KDE 14.
Can anyone else confirm this works? I have to wait until tomorrow to test.

I can confirm. I just finished it. I had a Soft Brick with error mounting SD Card. After returning to S-On I was able to return to stock with a RUU. After that was complete up and running, I used Moonshine and now S-Off again.
I just need to work on the signal issue created with the updated TMOUS Firmware.

Hey I'm in the same boat as you. Do you still have the signal issue? How are you fixing it?
I have phone from TMO_DE with OTA 2.15 and just passed the moonshine without any problems (previously, I couldn't make S-off becouse I can't do SuperCID)
One S Multi-Tool is a timesaver and so much easier. After I was able to S-Off again with moonshine I was still having issues with custom roms and the signal on stock. With the stock the signal disconnected constantly and with custom it had errors and would not load. I returned to S-On but was able to keep my SuperCID so I could flash another RUU. I ran a lower RUU which downgraded my HBoot. Then I was able to flash a custom Rom. I am keeping the S-on for now because it kept breaking the connection to the sdcard. The signal was still choppy but with the lower HBoot I was able to flash a different radio. I had the newest but when I flashed a lower version, works perfect.

This is the radio. V6 is for S-Off Devices or those with HBoot lovver then 1.13. After your HBoot is set I flash the 0.16 radio, which is the same that is included with the RUU but it is an Aroma installer and gives the ability to adjust for T-Mobile and fix wifi partition. Works great.
V4 is for Hboots that are S-On and higher then 1.13. Resets after a ROM flash.

No and yes. It depend on your hboot version. For OTA with 2.15, there was no way to get the s=off as we could not do the supercid. With moonshine script, you do not need the supercid. I still have tmous cid. Different way to get the s=off and works.

wats the latest RRU for HTC ONE XL .. and link to stock recoveries please
You don't need to update hboot to install custom ROMs.
RUU is recommended for some ROMs, as it seems to help with random reboots on some ROMs. But RUU is not strictly required.
Everything you will likely ask for is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Device will return to stock recovery when you RUU. But now sure why you are asking for that.

Agree. Follow advice above to flash latest RUU (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37227608 ), and re-flash recovery . You will get a newer hboot along with that, but other elements of the RUU are more beneficial to some of the newer ROMs - hboot won't give you anything by itself.Make sure you are S-OFF before RUU or you may brick.

[Q] HBOOT 2.15 killing me...

*** WHAT MY PROBLEM IS***
PLEASE can someone confirm any AOSP ROM that works with 2.15 HBOOT?
***WHAT I KNOW***
( i know the CM 10.2 thread says that RUU 3.18 which will make the hboot 2.14 but since 2.15 is latest i assume it should support)
(i also know that [HBOOT 2.15 is essential for SENSE 5 4.2.2 to run,i believe that's the only reason people go for 2.15)
***WHAT I HAVE TRIED***
NOW from what i have tried is that the 1st stable cm 10 release doesn't work with 2.15 (obviously too old build) my screen also became responsive(i believe that because of touch panel firmware) then with the latest stable release of cm 10.1 it specified that it needs hboot 2.14 and hence couldn't flash.
with PAC 4.3 it does gets installed but screen is unresponsive and infinite bootloops!:silly:
***WILL THIS WORK***
so now if i RUU 3.18 i will have to unlock boot loader and root it (M SOFF SUPER CID) which i m not really ready to do!
now there are methods that can help u downgrade/upgrade your firmware , can i do that?
also will using torched kernel help in me in any way?
***WHY DO I WANT AOSP***
Viper XL 4.2.2 best ROM ever hats off but the thing is i dont know why but i have Signal issues i tried flashing the recommended RADIO version.
since the vendor had already RUUd my device that was meant from some ASIAN region and already came with SENSE 5 and i dint mess up with it in any way still i had signal issues (which are unpredictable) i found by GSAM BATTERY monitor that around 30 to 40% of my battery is consumed by RADIO.
also the best signal is around -81db
i also had some issues with camera!
and then there is the numerous options i can have with AOSP.
****LASTLY CAN ANYONE HELP****
Just RUU. Your bootloader will remain unlocked and your S-OFF will remain
After the RUU you can flash recovery and flash a rom. You can technically just flash the 2.14 firmware.zip by extracting it from an OTA or an RUU, but easier to just ruu. and you get a nice clean wipe too.
I misread the m soff part sorry. You could have just run the ruu and twrp and been done in the time it took you to write that post.

will it still be SOFF?

so these things will survive the RUU?

I wouldn't mess with extracting the firmware files from the OTAs manually. If one of the hboot modules is missing, a brick can result. The OP is probably OK, since he has already manually updated to hboot 2.15. But RUU is still seems the safest way.

Are you saying that I can install a _newer_ RUU at any time than what I have?

Yes, you can always install the same or newer version. To install older you need to be S-off.

WOW! OK, well that opens things up.
Here's my plan, please tell me if it makes sense.
1: I will try firewater s-off. Let's see if that works. Right now I am back to RELOCKED so we will see if the temporary root method works for firewater s-off.
2: Assuming the above works, I will them put in TWRP recovery (fastboot flash recovery xxxxx)
I would think that this would give me s-off, and finally a custom recovery software.
I am not sure at this point if I need SuperSU if I have s-off and TWRP installed and an unlocked boot loader.
Thanks!!!!
BTW: I had previously unlocked boot loader, installed TWRP, superSU. Tried to install CM11 and when I flashed the boot.img it screwed up my phone. Now I am back to RELOCKED and stock Jellybean.

I would look into moonshine s-off first. I've read of some people having problems with firewater.
Moonshine S-Off
You have to be patient with it, but it's completely foolproof. I've used it on two HTC One S models without fail.
OK, but with moonshine I need to go to HTC dev an unlock the boot loader again. Also I'm worried that it will change HBOOT. Seems spooky.

It's not spooky at all. Even though it changes the hboot, the hboot is technically still listed as 2.15 and is compatible with any ROM in the dev section (except the ones that require 2.16, of course).
Thanks. I noticed another thing. With moonshine I have to update my ROM to :3.14.531.11

Yep. It has to be on the stock version of Jelly Bean 4.1 to work. Although I've read that it's also okay if you've upgraded to 3.14.531.17. It will work with that firmware upgrade too if you just use the same process as if it were on 3.14.531.11.

Hboot version is the version of the bootloader. Radio is the version of the firmware for the equipment in the phone that controls your mobile data/WiFi connection. These usually are upgraded along with a major software update like 3.14.531.11.

OK, never mind. I can't believe it was so easy to find the RUU. Right on HTC's site!

The software version usually is in the RUU number, actually. The one for yours is:
RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_TMOUS_3.14.531.11_Radio_1.13.50.05.31_10.30.50.08L_release_309489_signed_ICS_2
It notes that it's for the Ville and not VilleC2, and that it is JB (Jelly Bean), that its for T-Mobile US, then the software number, then the radio version. They're all named pretty much in this order.

So what is your plan with a firmware?
If you are not s-off you can do absolutly NOTHING with a firmware.
This means with s-on you can´t go back neither with the firmware nor with the h-boot (wich is normally a part of the firmware).
You MUST go s-off before you can downgrade your firmware that´s the point.....also if your CID is matching

so can you please discribe exactly how to downgrade the firmware(h-boot, radio etc.) on HTC ONE MINI
with s-on if this works and is commonly used it would be great to hear more about that...
(so till now I was quite sure that you can´t downgrade to a lower version with an RUU)

Or does he mean a standalone firmware.zip wich is included in the OTA dumps?

To downgrade the firmware when you are s-off is no problem....it´s done in a few minutes...
