Cursor jumps around - Asus Transformer TF700

No matter which keyboard I use or which forum I am on, when replying to a post the cursor will jump around most of the time it ends up in the quoted portion and I find I am typing in the middle of the quote I am replying to. It also happens when using the predictions but only for the first time, afterwards the predictions go to the end of the sentence you are typing like it is suppose to.

I have a problem that's just like yours, but it happens every time I backspace a few words or the entire line of a message. It jumps me around, and it's annoying. Why does this happen?

I would wager you guys are using either the old version of TapaTalk of Opera/Firefox? I had that with the older versions of TT, and aforementioned web browsers. After going to Tapatalk HD (and the stock browser)... <poof!>... no issues anymore.

I am using Boat browser because it is compatible with flash. From what I understand it is based on the stock browser.

It's been a while since I last used Boat (I think close to a year). How does Kingsoft Office perform? (It's free on the Play Store.) That seemed to have quite a lot of typing issues with the dock, so it served as a benchmark of sorts in the beginning of the TF700 era.

I have the same issue. It did it on stock Asus as well. It only happens on the stock browser and it only happens on xda especially when I quote a reply.
The easiest way to replicate it is quote, hold finger in the middle of some text and you will see it jumping around wildly. The problem it does this when hitting back space mainly which is sooooooo annoying.
I have turned off all tweaks and hacked the browser and cannot make it stop. I have come to the conclusion that the way stock browser implements java script is just not compatible with the way this site wants to use it.
Interestingly my nexus 7 with the stock browser exhibits the same problems......
I don't have a solution although it hasn't been too bad lately, probably because I'm more careful and try not to use backspace.

I have seen it go to the first position in any text box, making me type even crazier **** than normally and the BACKSPACE key always took two presses to backspace one single position... but not the jitter... Mmmmh.. Will have to go look for it.

For me it exhibits this behavior on every forum I post on but, it will only do it the first time and afterwards its okay. I do keep an eye on it though sometimes I forget. So, if I ever post a reply and it has a quote that appears to have been changed please forgive me.
Marty, which browser are you using now and is it compatible with flash?

Only happens with onscreen keyboard never with the dock.
Mind you I think xda has some poor java script behind it. My HTC One X does some weird **** on this site too. Not jumping cursor but have to push back twice to actually go back.

I have gone back to the stock browser with browser2ram (and data2sd since a few days). Since CROMI has this nailed, I feel it is actually quite a bit faster than the other browsers, and I generally can do without the fluff the 3rd party browser provide (although I liked that fluff specifically at first.

That last issue was what I was referring too as well -- drove me nuts! No smaller-format keyboard is exceptionally comfortable to type on, so I make more typos than I do while on a full-format keyboard. That double-tap requirement was a really annoying "feature"!

So no one has figured out a fix for this (other than to possibly use a non-stock based browser)? This issue has been driving me nuts for quite some time. I do remember that similar issues presented itself on the GNex back in the 4.0.1 days and was fixed by turning off spell-check. I've tried this (as well as auto-correct) but the problem persists.
sbdags, is this issue still present in your new CROMIX ROM?

Sweeeeeet.....might have to bite the bullet and upgrade. Other than this issue, I've been so happy with 3.4.x I haven't been tempted to upgrade (not even sure what version of 3.4 I'm using ).
Thanks!

Touchscreen Doesn't Work Occasionally

It doesn't work in small areas of the screen, at random.
For example, earlier today, when typing on portrait, the "E" key won't work. I went to calibration, and when typing the "E" on the short sentence, it didn't register.
After the E-key starts working, all of a sudden the "N" key doesn't work. Same story with the calibration not working as well for that key...
When this happens, and I switch to landscape, the letter/item/object in that vicinity still doesn't work.
It's as if that small area is dead, and it happens at random, but enough that I am annoyed I can't text.
What's going on...?
I had that problem with the P key a restart made it better again
This used to happen to me on optimized stock roms with the stock keyboard. I would suggest you to find a keyboard on the market such as swype, or flexT9 and use one of those.
I am not aware of a fix for the keyboard not responding to touch gestures, So you have to improvise
Same here, I searched but could not find a fix. When I used another keyboard (if I recall) the problem become less frequent. Now that i am rooted and running a custom ROM, problem resolved.
Its gonna happen no matter what. Read the sensation forums its happening with that phone as well. Not sure if HTC is using the same touchscreen driver, but if they are that would explain it.
Do you know if it is a rooting problem our just the phones driver? I never had any issues when my phone was stock...the keyboard felt better on stock also.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
This also happens to me on occasion but it happened to my captivate also. Both rooted and romed with ASOP source. Maybe thats the cause?
Same here. Rooted and running a CoreDroid rom right now. Annoying.
That happens to me sometimes. Usually when I clean the screen it works.
This sure does appear to be a problem plaguing a lot of people.
I dont know why I've been spared this misery.
The closest I've ever experienced to this sort of problem was occasionally I'd be typing and it would sort of freeze, but all of the characters I typed in that "frozen" period of time actually went through, they just got delayed, like the phone had to catch up, as if they were buffered, but their actual output to the screen lagged by a second or or two. It doesn't do it anymore, and hasn't for a long time.
I can't think of what I did that would have made it disappear... I haven't flashed a different ROM for a long time. Running inspired ace.
What you guys are describing sounds different... Like no matter what you do, a certain key won't register, yet others will register just fine.
Yep that is what happens. No matter what you do the certain key would not register. It would require a restart. But as I mentioned before, ever since I rooted and changed ROMS, I have not experienced this problem again, yet. It wasn't often this would happen. Maybe twice a week or so....
This happens on my inspire as well. For me its the H key sometimes. I'm running cyanogenmod 7.1 and strangely enough its happened for two different keyboards: swift beta and smart keyboard pro. I feel a little relieved its not just me experiencing this

Keys randomly dont work??

Hi, has anyone had the problem where certain keys on your keyboard randomly don't work but the keys around it do? I have to turn the screen off a few times to get it to work again. It happens very often, is there any fix? This is the first android phone that I've had a issue with the keyboard with. (nexus one and g2 were fine)
Using Gingeritis (beta IV) (Happens on the other roms too) and smart keyboard pro (tried the gingerbread keyboard same problem)
Thanks
I get this problem too.
I've noticed it on all of the ROMs I've used.
Doesn't matter if it's stock keyboard, SwiftKey, or SlideIT, I still get that problem.

Double check that you are not accidentally resting your finger on one of the touch buttons on the phone. i had this problem when i first got my Thunderbolt and realized it was how i was holding the phone.
I've noticed this too, and like the person above me said, its usually because my hand barely rests on the search button. I guess its far enough off that it doesn't register it as touching the button, but still a part of the touch screen? Either way, moving my hand fixes it.

My buddy had this problem where the screen was unresponsive and he called VZW about it and they acknowledged that it is a known problem. Sorry dont know a fix but apparently VZW knows about it.
for me, the problem hasnt been a key on the keyboard not working, but lits of times when i am in the middle of typing, the keyboard will disappear & when i bring it up again, the cursor will be in a completely different place.
additionally, sometimes when i press on a link nothing will happen. ill have to press 2-3 times before it registers. and as with the unresponsive key issue, this is also with any rom.
the cursor issue though seems to be worse on aosp roms.
I get this issue as well. It is VERY frustrating. I'm using swiftkey
I had trouble getting letter "k" to work today in smart keyboard pro . It took 4 tries.
I'm trying TouchPal, so far so good.
I've had this problem happen with EVERY ROM I've flashed and with multiple keyboards (HTC KB, GB KB, Swiftkey, etc.)

So will they replace phones? It's hella annoying.
They did offer to swap it for him. He is a unique case though, he is on his fourth or fifth tb. he has called vzw so many times and complained about his phone, they are going to give him a bionic when it comes out. so he declined the swap, but it was offered.

[Q] Browsers shut down unexpectedly

Hi guys, new to this forum. But so in love with Android (own HTC Legend 2.2, Galaxy Spica 2.1, Galaxy Nexus 4.0, Asus Transformer 3.2) that I think I gonna spend quite a bit of time around.
After extensive search, I could not find anyone reporting the issue I have :
When browsing the internet, and mostly while reading a page (ie having no real action on the TF), I randomly experience a browser shut down. Basically, my screen goes dark and I get back to the home screen within a tenth of a second (TF is NOT rebooting).
I don't get any error message. This happens with both stock browser and Dolphin HD. Not sure it is specific to some websites. Still investigating this aspect.
I have disabled Flash with no luck. TF is up to date and stock (not rooted, no mod of any kind).
It's getting real painful. Any idea about what's going on ?
Your not alone. Mine does the same thing with the same browsers. And I can go back to the page that I was on and it will work fine.
I noticed my friends does it too.

It seems strange to me that it would be a spread issue that has not surfaced yet.
I've been doing some extensive search on that matter in various forums with no luck so far.
One guy said he went to the extent of fully reinitializing his TF and he still experienced the problem.
That led me to think that maybe this is a fw issue, related to one of the last updates. I'm sure that this is a fairly recent behavior. I did not see that happening during the first few months of ownership.
Have you managed to detect if it was specific to some websites ?

Transformer browser problems

Hi guys,
I'm an Android poweruser, but definitely no guru, so I decided to share this problem with you guys. Although less urgent, it's still bothering me.
I've recently (a few months ago) purchased my TF300t. For me, it's the perfect device. However, with all it's quad core magic, the browser frequently hangs on me. Sometimes, it just works perfectly, but other times it freezes for about 5 seconds after which I receive the force close image. Would I press wait, I could continue browsing. Until, of course, the next pageload. This might seem like something minor, but it completely ruins the experience of having a great quad core tablet.
Here's some facts:
It happens all around the web, although some websites seem to trigger it the most. An example of this is the website foodgawker.com, which is a responsive website. However, this website never gives problems on my S2 with CM9.
It happens randomly. At one moment it may happen each pageload, or it may not happen at all for about 15 pageloads. Feels random.
Other browsers either give the same problem, or a terrible browsing experience.
Yes, the problem occurs after a factory reset
Yes, I've upgraded to the latest available firmware.
After a lot of dialoque with Asus, I sent it off for repairs. But as expected, all they did was wipe everything on it, and the problem still exists.
In the meantime, Chrome for Android seems to have been updated, and the problem is less apparent.
My questions:
Does anyone else experience these kind of problems with their TF300t?
Would unlocking it and installing CM help?
The reason I'm asking is because I want to determine whether or not this issue is hardware related. I don't want to be messing with custom software when I'm not totally sure the hardware's fine.
Thanks in advance

Yes, exactly so in the stock browser or clones. Hitting "Wait" often seems to fix it. Just shifted to Chrome and haven't seen it happen. Got to say not impressed by the browsing experience with any browser - slowwwwwwwwer than I expected.

So you have exactly the same problem? That kinda saddens me, since exchanging it won't have any use then. Are custom roms known to fix this?
I also have this issue....however after using the "brows2ram" app and root access, it seems to have 90% disappeared.
search XDA for the brows2ram app, install, reboot, and grant superuser permission and it seems to help a lot.
after a lot of reading here and the TF201 (prime) forum it is a fairly common issue and most of the users believe the 5th companion core is to blame.
basically downloading/scrolling (two main things in browser) are both handled by the companion core...so when this is done, it boggs down the processor.
i have yet to hear if someone experiencing this on stock OS also experiences is on a custom ROM....would love to hear this.
but if you can wait, Jelly Bean should be here pretty soon....and since jellybean was built around the nexus 7 which has almost identical specs, all lag should be gone. i expect JB to be here by september....hopefully.
in the mean time, brows2RAM has helped tremendously and makes me not even have a desire to unlock and ROM this thing.

This helps me out so much! It would explain why browsing is the only thing lagging, and games like Dead Trigger work flawlessly. I also forgot the Nexus 7 also has Tegra 3. I'm guessing Jelly Bean will work flawlessly on this tablet.
Thanks to your post I'm going to stop trying to solve this with Asus, as they'll probably won't admit this. I'll keep using chrome until the official update is here. I don't even think I'm going to root, because Chrome works acceptably!
Thanks!
Edit -> Also; September? Asus is that quick? I guess being used to Samsung, anything is quick.
I'm running hydro on tf300 with the stock web browser
the pause and wait option does still happen, but very infrequently
when I was on a stock rom, it happened all the time
now with hydro it rarely happens
And how is fluidity of web browsing? Because for me, even on Chrome, the experience isn't what I'd expect from a high-end tablet.
Try Ics Browser + and enjoy.

web browsing seems fine on hydro
there are still the normal hick ups from time to time
the difference in speed and fuidity between hydro and stock is night and day
after being on hydro for about the last month
I really don't know how I could even stand the stock rom
on hydro everything is super charged, super fast, super smooth
I've noticed the same problem on the stock rom, for that reason I switched to a early version of cm10 with jellybean. Haven't seen it happen again ever since

How do you deal with ghost touches/screen issues?

So, as many of you, I started to have ghost swipes,no touches recognized or other crap related to touchscreen issues. Now my question is - how do you deal with it without fixing the hardware?
In my case, I use SwiftKey keyboard, because it's faster than typing with one finger (2 fingers is too fast, getting ghost swipes). It's REALLY TERRIBLE for Lithuanian language, but for English, it's amazing! Another thing I use is the script from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/themes-apps/app-touch-screen-fixer-t3079029 using Tasker.
So, how do you deal with these issues?
Wondering the same thing.
At this point I might try rma. Quite ridiculous that I have a phone that can't even do the most basic of tasks.
It's weird that a giant group of people started having this problem around the same time. Whether or not it's coincidental with the release of Android 5.x is up in the air.
My capacitive buttons also stop working sometimes.

I started to have problems last week with no changes to ROM/GApps (that I remember).
Typing is almost impossible.
I've tried a clean flash to see if that was the problem, no joy.
I have tried other ROMs/GApps, no joy.
I have just installed the following app:

It appears that when you have two touches at the same height on the screen, it cancels them out...
I have tried this app on another OPO and it is fine.
I'm curious if you lot see the same behaviour...
