As far as I know you can add sound only to stock roms.. not to open source.. I tried in open source but wasn't successful.. correct me if I'm wrong..

YUP! You can disable or add in HTC or Samsung stock rooms. Just gotta delete htc_boot.mp3 from /system/customize/resources/:thumbup:

HOW TO ADD AUDIO TO BOOTANIMATION:
1. Find an mp3 file you like (MP3 file, not an Ogg Vorbis file)
2. Name it "boot_audio.mp3" (case-sensitive)
3. Copy it into /system/media/ USING ANY ROOT BROWSER.
4. Change the permissions of the file to rw-r--r--.

Currently customization on installed skins are limited to some properties change only..
If you creating your on skin you can do everything you like..
For change properties of installed skins,
Go to uccw application. Menu. Lock widget (hotspot). Make it off..
Then taping in widget on your home screen bring you to editing mode..

After installing uccw app, install some skins which is like in this post.. after that add a uccw widget to your home, then it will be prompt to select a skin You installed..
