[Dev][App][Suggestion]Conditional SMS answering - HTC Pico (Explorer)

I had an idea about an app which can give reply to SMS conditionally.
I want any developer to compile an app that can conditionally reply SMS with the given keywords.
In short if you set keyword as "Hi" and the contact name and info of wanted person,
Than if that person sends you SMS which contains "Hi" than it should reply my given SMS.
Isn't it good idea???
If you are in school and your girlfriend texts you than you can automatically answer her...

Hi ! Good suggestion !
While this suggestion is good it can fail at the following points :
Firstly it is an invasion of privacy of the user. It will question the integrity of the app creator that wheter he secures the message or not... You dont want the app publishing your sms to the internet.. especially your girlfriend's
The sms cost due to the carrier may become high for those who aren't running on an sms plan..
Sometimes you may not want to reply to the person and will be annoying to send the reply without your concern.
A new permission will be needed to be defined for reading the sms.. Again.. many banks, credit card companies send your statement of your transactions via sms.. which tests the integrity of the app.. takes us back to point 1.
Multiple words , meanings , shortforms , languages etc. Sometimes Instead of " Hey " many people use " Hy ".. or instead of hey , they use .. hi , hello , ( this can be easily tackled ) or sometimes they wont even say hello !
So particularly point 1 .. since there is a huge security threat.. I think most developers will shy away from this.. Afterall you dont want a lawsuit every alternate day from a user.
Good and interesting suggestion though !

Thanks for the threats and reply
You are completely right
For 1st threat no comments
But you said that people uses short form for that why a dev don't make a group of phrases and say it hello phrases. He would include all the short form people uses and it should customizable so we can add new things....

Yeah agreed.. but then imagine how big the dictionary will have to be.. ! .. and I think your Indian.. so imagine if they have to include hindi , english and other languages..
HUGE task. How about you try it out yourself ?
Nice idea.. needs implementation.. Eclipse will be the starting point of your journey if you try it out yourself.
Ill be the first one to buy / download it if you do manage to pull it off man.. Really interesting idea..

Can't we only include English????
I can't develops coz of exams

And the another option is not to make a dictionary, configure it manually....

@akshat nice points .. correct me if i am wrong but i dont think these points shud be a problem for the user bro.. cos
1.apps like AVG already scan our messages in search for suspicious messages, but people still use it .. so if the user is willing to compromise on this then it shouldn't be a problem ryt ?(i am using this feature... just for the heck of it )
2.the user wants the app to send the message so that means he is willing to pay the carrier charge ...

Secure as in it should not be sent to a third party or be stored in a computers data base. And it also increases the risk of malicious activities .. Anything from spam to terrorism. I mean it can happen with the current apps and smses in the play store but. Still there is a risk and a developer has to put his name with the brand /app . Nowadays im apps use an online server to redirect the smses sent from an offline source. I question the integrity of these apps even though I use them ... Just giving my personal opinion.. Good to see a hearty discussion
Point 2 : that I agree with you. But I think another cap on it will be the restrictions law places on it. I mean I easily send 300 ims to all my friends everyday. That could be easily used to spam random numbers

Right. I agree with you in the first point. Unless the app comes from a trust worthy group , many users won't be ready to use it.
I might not need this app but it would be fun to play around if any one develops

very nice idea. two questions...
1) i installed it (i have a Pulse with Froyo) and configured it.
After, i changed sim and started the phone. the program wasnt in the active program list so it didnt send me any sms.
2) the location is from GPS or from telephone company area (like google latitude)?
because the GPS is not always present...
ps. good work!
thanks for your report.
i use the wifi+basesattion to locate the phone caus we don't open gps for power saving.
and i just send two number to email for that it's good for phone to do little work and this can protect the running service from being found out , you know ,the less the app doing ,the safer the app is.
as to the sim card checking ,some guys report the problem and i'm workin on it. : )

Hiya,
I'm bagofbits and new to these forum's and was not sure how to contact anyone at XDA so after some after advice from LUFC (forum moderator) here is my situation.
I have a wildfire s and been viewing those forums, during the last couple of days since the change over from android market to google playground or whatever it's called these days, I've been getting a popup app in my status bar saying please download 'battery supercharger' . I've been just clearing my status bar but it just kept coming back.
Today by mistake i downloaded it and got loads of texts within minutes and ended up with a charge of £4.99, I text 'STOP' to the number given. My network provider(3) can't help and I've mailed google help about it and they have logged it and are getting back to me.
Also a number of post's on the web about it...
Anyway enough rambling, I've searched the wildfire s forum and can't see any mention of it, just thought that it would be useful to post something about it so nobody else falls victim to this.
Give me a thanks if u could please.
Cheers
Oh might be an idea to check recent downloads you have made that contain ad's that may harbor this scam.

The ad you saw in your status bar used ad over the air function.
There are some apps which will detect apps using the add. Method. And will give you the ability to uninstall it.

Unfortunately this is true, you have not stopped the messages - just confirmed to the spammers that the number is live and real. 3 may be able to help you by blacklisting the numbers you are getting messages from - also have a look here if the messages persist.
This is a problem that is by no means limited to the Wildfire S - recently I recognised an app on my friend's Samsung Galaxy Ace as being malware - it was also generating notifications about some kind of battery optimizer. I managed to remove it before she accidentally signed up to anything.
Regarding the app, try some apps like Lookout Mobile Security and BitDefender . If you run a scan with these, they may find the offending app and help you to remove it. Good luck!
solution to battery supercharger text costs
saw the two text messages yesterday, spoke to Vodafone told them to block any charges today, up to which time charges hadn't gone through. So hopefully this will cost me nothing.
even if they had placed the charge, I would have asked Vodafone not to pay it, and kicked up a fuss until the agreed not to do so, or carry the cost themselves. Anybody with a mobile phone contract is in a very strong position at the moment I have noticed, getting lots of freebies off them.
thanx for ur advice
but i think it is not harmful

[Q] Edit whatsapp messages time or change time to system time!

Hello,
Me and my gf used to chat a lot using whatsapp (she has an iphone)..i finally persuaded her to change to android but she wants the threads as she has them on her phone..i have tried everything and since you cant restore within different platforms the only good way i thought is if we did a "replay" of what we have sent by looking from the chat history from email..bit extreme but no other way..
The only problem is that the app doesnt let us use the time we wish (from system) because maybe it uses time from the web! Or maybe we can alter the time afterwards ..Any ideas??
Thnx

Not sure if there is any easier way but Whatsapp Xtract could be the answer since it support WA message extraction, you can get it here.
If you know some programming skill you can just play with the sqlite database, another way would be write some script to mass change the time on the chat history/email.
Good luck!
By the way, you probably want to change your title to include [Q] so that people know you are asking a question.
Thnx i will look it up! i was also thinkng about whatsapp on Bluestacks but then again the mod in time is still an issue

Have you tried Whatsapp Xtract? Well if you are talking about changing the date on email then a simple php script would do by mass converting the date.
But what can i see from the message history sent to email is that they have 'year' info skipped, so not sure what happen to messages sent/rcvd before current year, does it have year info? well, only if you have one sent/rcvd before 2012.
If only about changing the date on email maybe i can help, just give me some picture on how it looks like now and how it supposed to be.

Yes I have looked into this program..it all started from me wanting to export whatsapp chat into android from iphone! Then when I saw I cant do that I thought I could send my chat from scratch and change the date..but then again the app doesnt let you operate if you use incorrect time.BUT one thing I never thought is one simple and better solution: Why dont I avoid this app and its limitations and import my chat conversation from email to SMS with sms to text!! :thumbup:I will combine my sms and my whatsapp into one thread and job done! GOOD THING ANDROID SMS IS SO VERSATILE! .txt .csv. xls you name it. So happy right now thanx for your feedback anyway

Read deleted SMS

Hi all
My son 13-year-old must submit his phone to me every night. Is there any software that I can read his SMS event if the SMS were deleted?
I will appreciate all your ideas and advices.
Here's an idea, give your son some privacy.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Even tho I agree you should give him privacy and build trust with him, I'll help you out.
You could get a app (not sure of name) that makes a nandroid of every thing (including SMS) and have it set on a timer to do so. So at a random point in the day it will backup everything in it and restore it quickly to see what's up, then unrestore. (Maybe titanium backup?)
If his phone is rooted you can easily do it with the app called undelete.
Im a parent I get it. But I think you're going to far and invading their privacy which will cause he or she to rebel big time once they find out...and make no mistake your kid will find out.

Besides if he wants to hind something from you he will, your options have been given, but then again he could prevent any of them if he wanted or just delete messages as soon as he has got them so at the most you get a couple
Hey guys, don't assume anything about the OP's reasons for asking the question.
Maybe his son has had bad habits or "friends" that no "real parents" would like their sons to ever meet.
He asked a technical question (giving the reason why and he could have just asked the question "as is", which would be my advice for any of such question in the future) and if you don't want to answer it because you think it's "bad", well, don't answer it, but please, keep your remarks for yourself.
If you want to discuss about parenthood and the like, there are forums dedicated to such subject. xda is a technical site, so let's keep it technical)
The nandroid backup is a good idea .
Another one
If your career allows you to get your messages, sms, mms, and even voice mail by email (in some unified messaging system or even with IMAP), you could use that. Usually, the messages are NOT deleted from the messaging server when they are deleted from the phone.
My own career provides such a service.
I think we are done here.
Thanks.

It's kind of weird that you came up with an app whose got no developer and trying to claim it yours?
Before posting that app here you are suppose to take the real developers permission, if you aren't sure who the developer is, check the resources from where you got it.
I may sound a bit rude but I think the developers needs to get all this credits and thanks, not you

I don't think he's trying to take any credit. He's clearly said the app's not his. Its isn't even on google play yet so it's not like he's selling it (it's even a free download from dropbox so it's not like he's getting paid for downloads). I fail to see why you're attacking him so hard. Perhaps its one of the apps developed on chinese forums where the dev doesn't speak english. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't see the justification for such an assault.
To the OP, I think it would be proper as well to know the dev or know if you're acting on his behalf. I'd like to suggest some features as well .

What in the world is going on here!?!?!? You did NOT create this app. Normally, I do not post anything that is not positive, but I must speak out against this. You are NOT the developer of this app, & how dare you try to take credit for it. I've been using this app for years, since the days of Froyo, & it's actually been around since Eclair if I remember right.

You cannot take someone's creation, try to hide their name from it, & then present it to the world as if it's yours, & even asking people for thanks for it. It is not just completely wrong morally, but it might also be a serious infraction of XDA policy. This type of behavior should have you banned.
As benefit of doubt, perhaps you just weren't aware of what you've done??? It is wrong. Please delete this thread & be more careful of such things in the future.
Agreed - It's the 1.51 version that IS on the Play store and then advertised as 2.1....
XDA, please get rid of these false devs

Has the original developer (PT from the play store) dropped this app?
I, for one, would like to see the actual speed displayed in the status bar. Icon updates would be nice too.
