[GUIDE] How to root the Sony Xperia Miro and enable the MicroSD slot! (noob friendly) - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

Hello, as I decided today to root my first android phone and found it quite difficult to do, I'm writing a hopefully complete, noob friendly tutorial to root the Sony Xperia Miro (ST23i). Special thanks to Bin4ry's post and messmeww's post and XMoDXs1's incomplete post for the main ideas. If you have doubts/questions along the way please refer to Bin4ry's post (or messmeww's)!
Please remember that rooting your phone may void your warranty or brick it. Btw, hit that Thanks button if this helped!
Step 1 - Preparation
While I didn't care about the data on my phone, you probably should. Rooting can erase data (as I discovered the hard way). Delve into the forums and look for a good way to back up your data before proceeding. No help from me here.
Go into settings and tick the options "Unknown Sources" under Security and "USB Debugging" under Development Options. Remember to repeat this at the beginning on steps 2, 3 and 4 (unless already ticked). This operation will be referred to as "check the ticks".
Step 2 - Downgrading
If you go under Settings > About Phone you should see that the build number is 11.0.A.5.5. We need to downgrade the phone to an earlier version (11.0.A.2.10) to root it. This is done with the Flashtool. Download it here.
In the meanwhile, download the FTF files for both build numbers 11.0.A.2.10 and 11.0.A.5.5.
Once the Flashtool is downloaded, run and install it. Once you have done this, open the location of the installed Flashtool (e.g.: C:\Program Files (x86)\Flashtool) and open the "drivers" folder. Run the file Flashtool-drivers and follow the prompts until you reach a list, there select the option with Xperia U in it and the last 2 options of the list (both have "Super" in them I think). Then follow all other prompts to install these drivers.
Now check the ticks, plug in your phone via USB and run the Flashtool. Drag the 11.0.A.2.10 FTF file into the middle of the box and it should be loaded. (If this doesn't happen, return to the Flashtool install folder and run the "x10flasher" file, same thing, requires Java, then repeat). Once dragged, a window should pop up. DESELECT WIPE DATA! Then click "ok" and the Flashtool will begin flashing your phone. It will ask you to unplug the phone, turn it off, then replug it while holding the volume down button. At this point the Flashtool should automatically continue the process. Once the process is complete, unplug the phone once more and turn it on. It might take longer than usual, so don't panic. If you check, the build number should now be 11.0.A.2.10.
Step 3 - Rooting
Now we will root the phone using Bin4ry's Root with Restore (please, no mirrors by request of Bin4ry). Download it and unzip it in a folder on your desktop. Then, run CMD as an Administrator and type in the unzipped folder after "cd" (e.g.: "cd C:\Users\Mc837\Desktop\Root_by_Restore") and hit enter. Now type "runme", hit enter, type "1", hit enter, check the ticks, then plug in your phone. Follow the prompts and the phone will be rooted. When the phone turns again go to your applications one should now be "SuperSU". This means your phone is rooted.
Step 4 - Upgrading
Download the Root files here. Then, extract it to a folder on your desktop and run "01-local-prop" and follow the prompts. Now repeat Step 2 again but with the 11.0.A.5.5 FTF file, this will upgrade the firmware to your previous one. Unplug your phone and turn it on. Once on, you'll notice SuperSU is gone. Check the ticks and plug in your phone once more. In the same folder as "01-local-prop" locate and run "02-push-root-files". Follow the prompts and your phone will reboot by itself. Congratulations! Your phone is now rooted!
Step 5 - Enabling the MicroSD expansion slot (optional, not required for rooting)
Download "Root Browser Lite" from the Play Store. Open it and search for the file "vold.fstab" under System > etc. Once found, copy it as to have a backup, then open the file with a text editor and replace the last part (in code) with the following:
Code:
#MTD-BSP-LC-uSD_and_eMMC_coexistence-00 *[
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.1/mmc_host
dev_mount ext_card /mnt/ext_card 16 /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host/mmc0
#MTD-BSP-LC-uSD_and_eMMC_coexistence-00 *]
Now turn your phone on and off again. The internal memory will now be regarded as the external sd card (ext_sd) while the actual sd card will become what the phone calls sd_card! If you forgot to backup the file click here.
I hope this tutorial helped you. Hit the thanks button if you think so!

Superuser Icon won't show and runme.cmd boot runs as it is.
When i run the restore binary file, the phone reboots but the super user app won't show besides
<1>vibrate on my phone doesn't function anymore
<2>when i try to unlock the screen, the screen remains blackened out.
someone please help,I had root before on 11.0.A.5.5 firmware but i installed cynogenmode but i hated it so i reflashed stock rom and my root is gone plus my firmware is already downgraded to 11.0.A.2.10. Nothings working according to my way

Lenovo A60+ ROOTED stock rom (Philippines). WORKING contact identification either international format or local format.
this one works without any problems for PH Lenovo A60+ specially have tried ALL stock roms(chinese) and cooked/custom roms has problem with caller i.d. or number identification from international format (+63xxxxxxxxxx) to local format (0xxxxxxxxxx) in your contacts or phonebook. see instructions below to root your Lenovo A60+ without having issues/problems with caller/contact identification:
in ALL stock ROM and custom roms i have tried, ALL these have ISSUES or PROBLEMS with caller/contact identification. lets say:
a. your contact stored number is 0919xxxxxxx
b. 0919xxxxxxx calls you, the contact identification will show.
c. 0919xxxxxxx send you an sms/text. the contact will NOT show because the SMS sender is +63919xxxxxxx
twist:
a. your contact stored number is +63919xxxxxxx
b. 0919xxxxxxx calls you, the contact identification will NOT show. because the caller incoming number is 0919xxxxxxx and your phone number in contacts is 63919xxxxxxx. this two numbers is treated as two different numbers.
c. 0919xxxxxxx send you an sms/text. the contact will show because the SMS sender is +63919xxxxxxx
basically in the Philippines number formats sent by networks are:
receiving calls: 0919xxxxxxx or international format
receiving SMS/text: +63919xxxxxxx or local format
as said i have tried ALL(as of date january 14, 2012) stock roms and custom roms available in the internet for rooting this Lenovo A60+. have spent DAYS figuring out and trying out(kaskus, xda-dev, symbianized, etc). dont look any further and waste time like what i did. this procedure is for you to save yourself days and time lost!

DISCLAIMER: i am not responsible for any lost of data, your phone bricked or loss of your phones warranty. remember that ROOTING an android device VOIDS manufacturers WARRANTY. I DO not HOST any of these files.
BEFORE rooting, do this necessary steps:
1. backup your phone's IMEI. this is likely to be erased/lost in ROOTING or installing new roms. thus you wil get an "Invalid IMEI" message or your sim cannot locate networks or has no signal. check google play for IMEI backup apps and backup into your SD card. otherwise read the tutorial after on how to re-create your IMEI file and restore into your phone system.
2. BACKUP your contacts and messages/sms, applications etc. most likely all data will be lost too. so you need to restore it after ROOTING procedure.
3. DISABLE and turn off any anti-virus softwares in your PC and any PC to Phone applications such as IdeaTool, MobileGO, Snap Pea, Etc. so that this will NOT interfere with the rooting procedure.

Follow these step by step, with SIM cards REMOVED from the phone/device:
Step 1: Prepare needed files and copy to SD Card the three files:
a.) a60+ori.zip (link number 1) should be zipped file so DONT unzip this.

Step 4: while your phone is TURNED OFF, NO SIMS, NO SD card,.. and it has its battery on it; on your phone/device HOLD(press and dont release) "volume +" or "volume up" key(top-right side of your phone) and plug the cable until the progress bar at the bottom is running, when the progress bar turns RED, you can RELEASE the "Volume up/+" key. see screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/wDPM9Ym8AHG
Wait around 5 minutes. the progress bar at the bottom will show as RED then YELLOW, then TEAL. wait until a green circle in a pop up window appears. when the green circle appears; this mean success in flashing with the rom upgrade. see screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/OGLHkf55

6.a. turn OFF "GPS" and "Data conn." at the top(swipe the top area going down).
6.b. open the application "FileBrowser" which is pre installed in the firmware. browse to your SD card's root and install mobileuncle.apk that you copied in step 1(this is version 2011.01.04v1.2). a pop up window will show "Install blocked". tap "Settings" tap or check "Unknown sources". Tap "OK" on the "Attention" window. tap on back. tap again on mobileuncle.apk tap install. tap open. tap get started. tap OK in the chinese pop-up window.
6.c. tap on "Flash Recovery From SdCard" (its the second option from the top). tap on "recovery.img" then tap "OK". Superuser will pop up and quick tap OK to grant superuser permission.
6.d. the phone will reboot and enter CWM-based Recovery v6.0.0.3(english version, CWM stands for ClockWorkMod).
Step 7. INSTALLING THE STOCK ROM WITH ROOT USING CWM - IN CASE that the phone/device did not enter CWM recovery but booted as regular boot. turn the phone off. turn it back ON while you HOLD on the "Volume +/up" button. this will enter to CWM-based Recovery. otherwise proceed with steps below:
7.a. while in the CWM-based Recovery console, Lenovo A60+ touchscreen doesnt work. the hardware volume up and down works as buttons to scroll up and down. while the power button works as the SELECT button.
7.b. scroll down twice(press volume down button twice) to highlight "wipe data/factory reset" option. press power button to select it. scroll down and highlight "Yes -- delete all user data". press power buttn to select. wait for around 20 seconds to complete.
7.c. scroll down to "wipe cache partition" and press power button. scroll down to "Yes - Wipe Cache". wait 2 seconds to complete.

7.e. scroll down to locate and highlight "a60+ori.zip". press power button. confirm the install by scrolling down and select "Yes - Install a60+ori.zip". wait for around 1 minute for the process to complete. the process completes with the console last text "Install from sdcard complete." shows at the bottom while you will be able to choose from the options at the top again.
7.f. scroll down and select +++++Go Back+++++ then select "reboot system now".
Step 8: FIX on INVALID IMEI AFTER SUCCESSFUL ROOTING - by now you have a ROOTED A60+_ROW_S310_120823 ROM. all apps are working EXCEPT that your phone has "Invalid IMEI". this is because Device IMEI's are UNIQUE to each phone. now, lets fix this!!!
files and tools to download:
8.1. download t-kstore.com/imei.zip - Size 4.22 MB - its a dos based IMEI generator and encryptor and write to file.
8.2. download download.estrongs.com/app-es-file-explorer.html - Size 2.81 MB - an apk "es_file_explorer_v1.6.2.4.apk" and application to manage files in your android device. copy the es_file_explorer_v1.6.2.4.apk file to your SD card's root/top folder.
8.3. RE-CREATING your phone/device IMEI - locate your Unique Lenovo A60+ IMEI. there are two places these 15 digit number can be located. FIRST is when you open your phone, its in the sticker attached to your phone under the battery. on Philippine released phones its in between the stickers of Lenovo and NTC stickers. SECOND location is the sticker on the side of your phone's Lenovo box/carton/package.
8.4. extract/unzip imei.zip that you downloaded in 8.1.
8.5. go to the extracted folder and run "dos.cmd". this will run a DOS console window in your pc.
8.6. in the dos command line type:
imei.exe 123456789012345 123456789012345
then press enter to execute the command line.
whereas, the first set of numbers is your IMEI #1 and second set is your IMEI #2 as you located in Step 8.3.
after pressing enter this will generate your encrypted IMEI file with the name "MP0B_001_NEW". see screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/lUUzC3yiTNn
8.7. close the dos console window. rename that file generated "MP0B_001_NEW" to "MP0B_001" (without the qoutes) in the folder where you extracted imei.zip
8.8. copy MP0B_001 to your phone's sd card. for this tutorial just copy it to your sd card's root folder.
8.9. INSTALLING ES Explorer, moving the IMEI file to the phone's correct system folder - install and run es_file_explorer_v1.6.2.4.apk which you previously downloaded and copied to your SD card in step 8.2.
8.10. open ES File explorer on your phone. first window on first run just click okay. tap on the bottom left button of your A60+. tap "Settings". tap "File Settings" select or check "Show Hidden Files". tap back. scroll down and tap "Root Settings". tap or check "Root Explorer". SU pop up will show and grant root or tap yes to give privilege to ES File Explorer. tap or check "Up to Root" and "Mount File System". tap back twice.
8.11. on your sdcard's root/top folder locate the file MP0B_001 which you copied in your sd card in step 8.8.
long press on the icon then tap "Copy". a little pull up window will show at the bottom(which is the clipboard of es file explorer).
8.12. tap the "favorites" icon at the top-right corner. tap the device icon or the one with "/" which is to the right of the HOME or house icon. this will bring you to the root folder of your device. navigate(navigate by tapping the folders) to: /data/nvram/md/NVRAM/NVD_IMEI/
you will see 3 files. long press on the MP0B_001 then select "Delete". yes DELETE you wont be using this anyways. tap okay when youre asked to confirm deletion. at the bottom, swipe up the es file explorer's clipboard. tap on MP0B_001 icon which is in the clipboard. a message will show something like "MP0B_001 successfully copied...". exit es file explorer. RESTART your A60+.
EUREKA!!! you strike gold! you now have a ROOTED A60+ with working caller/sms identification.
Step 9: restore your backups, apps, sms, contacts, settings.

Could you also help us how to swap sd card with internal storage? so that apps could directly install in the external sd card.
Link2SD
thanks for the tut bro!!!
to increase internal storage of A60+
we need to install Link2SD
Using Minitool Partition wizard
we need to create 2 partition in our SD card
first partition must be set to Primary & Fat32
second partition must be set to Primary & ext4 (A60+ doesn't recognized fat, fat32, ext2, & Ext3 in second partition)
please note that the second partition even we sized it as 2gb when we open the link2SD storage info
the second partition display it as 1Gb only, but worry not it will still going to use the other space yuo have created
mine, was set to 2gb and have transferred 153MB of files to the second partition
and it is still showing 100% free and used: 153MB
@guilliam perhaps you can add this to your tut.
Thanks again..God Bless!
thanks for this i have rooted my lenovo a60+ hehe, there's one problem i've encountered when i go to setting and click on the about phone the settings becomes force close, is it happened to you? well i had follow the instructions though.. anyway thanks for this TUT hehe hope there will be rom for our lenovo a660+ which had no bugs at all hehe
Guidance needed!
Hello Guiliam
Thanks for such a detailed post. I am quite new to this, and just have some basic understanding on the rooting/flashing etc. I am planning to root my Lenovo A60+ which I have bought in China, which has unnecessary bloatware and more importantly there is no Google Play app in that. I am based in India, and would want to know if your ROM will work for me as well?
Is your post only covering Rooting part or does it also cover any flashing part (custom ROM), the reason I ask is because apart from rooting, I also want to install the ROM which is in English (or can the language be changed automatically?)
I am looking to root my "Lenovo A60+" - primarily for reasons like:
1. I do not have stock Google Play Store app, and I am not sure how to download that app.
2. I have bought this phone in China, and there is lot of unwanted Chinese software which I want to get rid of.
3. I want to get rid of the Chinese keyboard (iFlytek) and only have Android keyboard.
I have questions like:
1. If my rooting fails for some reason, can I un-root the device to restore it to the previous state (i.e. with all the stock apps)
2. I want to avoid bricking my phone, even if it happens, will I be able to go back to the previous state by un-rooting?
Some details of my phone:
Model - Lenovo A60+
Android version - 2.3.6
Build number - A60+_S318_121108
Baseband version - MAUI.11AMD.W11.50.SP.V13.P10,2012/07/13 13:26

You'll need to cancel Windows looking for the drivers. Of course, the installation will fail.
Then go to Device Manager and look for the device with the "!". Right-click on that device, choose Update Driver then locate the drivers that you downloaded.

Question, I need help!
Hi, thanks for the great tutorial, I have successfully rooted my Lenovo a60+! My question is, can I install custom ROMS on my freshly rooted phone? Popular ROMS like Cyanogenmod or Paranoid Android require phone compatibility, and my phone is not on their list. I'm starting to feel sick after I have rooted my phone because I have no idea yet how to install custom roms (which was my main reason of rooting), will you be nice to me by answering these questions?
- Does custom ROMS do require phone compatibility?
- Are all or some custom ROMS compatible to all android phones as long as they are rooted?
- If so, do you have a list of ROMS that are compatible to my Lenovo a60+?
- Lastly, please tell me that there is a way to upgrade the phone's OS from gingerbread to jelly bean or even ice cream sandwich.
Please help me! I have an empty rooted Lenovo a60+ and I need a custom ROM to be installed before I put my data back again. Thanks in advance, and also for the root tutorial. ))
Please! Anyone! Heeeellpp!!!
My Phone is Bricked!
It stays in the Lenovo screen and will not eventually boot up.
I have installed Chainfire 3D from the market and was surprised that it did not have the options that I was expecting from the tutorial, so I read the description on the application, it says, ''Driver not installed, you need to install driver before you can access options''. So i installed the drivers, then everything was ok, I can still use my phone, but Chainfire 3d still needs me to update the drivers, so I did, then, suddenly, my phone's screen just froze, and I cannot access my notifications, home back menu keys, power button, in fact my screen does not work anymore. Feeling nervous, I left it untouched for an hour and checked it back its still the same the moment i left it. So I took the battery out, tried to turn it on again, and now, I'm stuck with the Lenovo screen and will not boot up to stock ROM, please Help me! I need my phone as soon as it is fixed! Please HELP!!!
Here are the details of my rooted Lenovo A60+:
- Followed the rooting process here, so I have Clockwork recovery mod 6
- Has a installed Chainfire 3d 1.7
- Installed stock ROM
- Has no backups
- Can access the recovery mode
- Already done the ''wipe data'' ''wipe cache'' ''factory reset'' and everything, wiped my phone clean.
Please help me, my parents are going to kill me if I can't fix my phone.
Thanks for the post. When I tried I got an error "S_PART_NO_VALID_TABLE (1037)" after the status bar showed 100% in red colour. Need help please. Thank you.
Thank you for the post but it cannot work
Error S_PART_NO_VALID_TABLE (1037), and the status bar stays 100% red color. Anyway, thanks

Dear funbook users i have seen a lot many people are very much confused about rooting the funbook and are using the Sparky Root method and are getting nothing from it.
Below is a details step by step procedure for getting root in a safe manner.
For this i am assuming that you have no knowledge and you are doing this for the first time.
Step 1: Installing ADB Drivers
Step 2: Installing ClockworkMod Recovery
Step 3: Installing SuperSU by Chainfire

[Tutorial | In-Depth] Huawei G750-U10 from Android 4.2 to 4.4.2 (+ personal exp)

Hello Everyone. This is my first post on XDA-Developers, and I want to share my experience on how I transferred my Huawei G750-U10 to Android 4.4.2. For the people not interested in my experience, and are only here for the explanation, scroll down to the tutorial part.
Story part (my experience)
First off, I did some research on how to root the phone, because you will need a rooted phone to install other firmware and custom ROMS. Rooting is essentially unlocking an account on your phone that has access to all the files and programs so that you can have more control over your phone (it is normally disabled for security reasons). Rooting the phone was easy. I used a program called RootGenius, which is just a 1 click-root program. Very handy and easy. After this, the hard part started.
Fyi, the only reason that I started this project is because I wanted to play Pokémon GO w/o buying a new device
From this step I did a full backup of my current ROM and NVRAM and wrote down my IMEI numbers (the G750 has 2 IMEI numbers because it has 2 SIM-Card slots). These numbers are unique for your phone and are used for calling and sending SMS messages. So make sure you write them down (in my phone they were also written down under the battery). The program I used to backup the NVRAM and the IMEI numbers is MTKDroidTools.
After this step, I tried unlocking my bootloader. But it was very stubborn (I was using the latest firmware from Huawei, B119) and I tried doing this with fastboot. Which failed every single time and gave a 0x7000 error when I tried to unlock the bootloader. But I have to say that my bootloader was acting weird from the start anyway. Whenever I used the command:
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
It always showed that the bootloader was unlocked, eventhough after I locked it using the command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Which is weird. So I will just include a tutorial on how to unlock the bootloader just in case yours works normal.
So, after realising that my bootloader was not working correctly, and I could not install any recovery mod like CWM or TWRP (or any custom ROM for that matter), I found out that I needed to flash to the chip directly. This was also a huge challange, since i've never done this before and I actually did not know what I was doing. I've changed ROMS on phones a couple of times before, but that always was with a unlocked bootloader and so via the "normal" recovery system way.
For this part, I used XDA user: jacktackles' post a lot. He had some handy information about flashing to the chipset immediately and on what files to use. Since my B119 firmware was locked, I first wanted firmware with an unlocked bootloader. So I flashed some Chinese G750 firmware, that changed my device from a G750-U10 to a G750-T00. The flashing process was not flawless at all, and was the part that took me the most time (10+ hours). This all because I forgot to untick 1 simple box... Oh well, I guess that is how it works (at least I got it to work ). So, after flashing this Chinese firmware, the hardest part was done. And I had access to TWRP Recovery. With this I installed the custom ROM that I wanted, and that is where my adventure ended.
So, to summarize: It is not easy, and not beginner friendly. That is why I wanted to make this post: To make it easier for you guys to do the same and get to catch YOUR Pokémon! (Or just to upgrade to 4.4.2). So let's now go to the tutorial part!
Tutorial part
I did this with a Windows 10 64-bit computer, although I would recommend using Windows 7. You will also need a usb-cable to connect your phone to your computer. Make sure that everytime you install a new ROM that you re-enable USB-debugging. You do this by going to your phone options > About Phone > Click "build number" 7 times > Go back to options > Developers options and tick the USB-Debugging tickbox.
Sorry for not uploading screenshots, but XDA prevents me from using any outside links because I'm a new user (so i'll try to be as precise as possible). This means that also any downloadable files should be retrieved from jacktackles' post (again big thanks to him!). His forum post can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/huawei-g750-u10-honor-3x-kitkat-4-4-2-t3038166.
So, go to his post and download the VCOM drivers, MKT Droid Tools, B113 4.2.2 base with unlocked bootloader, Root Genius, and this ROM from another XDA-Developer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62356379#post62356379 (Thanks a lot mate! Awesome upload). The Gaaps link is not needed with my method, and the last link is down. So you will need to get a replacement ROM for that. I used one from NeedRom. Just go to their site, and search for G750-U10 and download a ROM that you want (which is Android 4.4.2 of course). Or download another rom from any other site. The one I used is called: G750-U10 KitKat which was listed on the site on: 07/22/2015 11:35 pm. But you can also choose to download another ROM.
So to sum up, we got 3 ROMS:
1. The Chinese Firmware downgrade to B113
(FILENAME: G750-U10 V100R001C00B113CUSTC432D001_Firmware_Slovakia_Austria_Lithuania_Czech Republic_Latvia_Estonia_Greece_05021NHU)
2. The ROM from pavel22 to change the device to G750-T00
(FILENAME: G750-T00_mod8_265_FlashTool)
3. The ROM that we finally are after
(FILENAME: Huawei G750 U10 Kit Kat 4.9.16)
(In my case of course, not if you downloaded another "final" ROM)
Okay, so after all the files are downloaded and extracted (except for the 3rd ROM), we can start!
1. Rooting
This step is very simple and quick. Plug in your phone to your PC and open Root Genius. Click the big button and your phone should be rooted. If it gives an error, just try again and again until it works. After this restart your phone, and a new app "RootKing" should be installed. If not, the phone is not rooted.
2. MTK Droid Tools (backing up NVRam & IMEI)
Extract MTK Droid Tools from it's ZIP file, and place it in a folder. Now extract the VCOM drivers and install them. These drivers make MTK Droid Tools recognize your device. After installing the drivers, open up the .exe file from MTK and make sure it recognizes your device. If it does not, reboot your PC and try again. After your device is recognized, install the "adbd insecure" app on your device, from the playstore (or download it somewhere else if you do not want to pay). But trust me, it is worth the money. Once adbd is installed, tick both boxes on the app, so that we can connect to your phone with MTK. If done correctly, MTK Droid Tools should now be able to get full access to your device, and a green box will appear in the left bottom of the program.
Now, backup your NVRam and IMEI. You do this by clicking on the "IMEI/NVRAM" button, and clicking backup. To be safe and for ease of access, write down your IMEI's on a paper or notepad file. Now the real fun starts!
2.5 Unlocking the bootloader (you might not have to do this)
Only do this step if you get a BROM error with code 6045 when trying to flash any roms. Here is how you unlock the bootloader:
1. Install ADB drivers. I used a tool made by XDA user Snoop05 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48915118)
2. Connect your device to your pc
3. Open up a command promt from windows
4. type "adb" and check if it returns a big list of available commands (that you know for sure that adb is installed)
5. Type "fastboot" and check if it returns a big list, for the same reason
6. Now type "adb devices" and check if it gives your device, if not make sure you have correct usb drivers installed for the G750-U10, if not just install HiSuite from Huawei (It comes with the correct drivers), then disconnect your device and type "adb devices" again.
7. Now type "adb reboot-bootloader" and your phone will restart in fastboot mode.
8. Type "fastboot oem unlock" and follow the instructions on your phone screen (they are very small and hard to read).
3. Flashing the Chinese Firmware
In the Chinese firmware folder, there will be 4 sub-folders: SD_Upgrade, Update Tool, USB_DRV, USB_Upgrade.
0. Delete the SD_Upgrade folder (Not needed).
1. Go to USB_DRV and install the .exe file in the: "Driver For servers 2012-11-27" rar file.
2. After this open the Update Tool folder and extract files.
3. Open the flash_tool.exe file, which is used to flash the device (like the name suggests )
4. Once the program is open, click on the "scatter-loading" button. Search for the USB_Upgrade folder, and select the MT6592_Android_scatter.txt file.
5. Turn off your device, remove the battery, wait a few seconds and reinsert the battery back into the device. Do NOT turn on the device.
6. Make sure SP_Flash_Tool is set to "Download only" (can be set by the dropdown box)
7. Click the "Download" button, and connect your device to your PC.
8. Wait, and the progress bar will fill up. DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR DEVICE OR YOU COULD BRICK IT!
9. Success? Great! Restart the phone and progress to the next step!
10. Failure? Untick the Preloader partition and repeat from step 5. Still not working? Also untick USRDATA and try again.
4. Flashing the: "G750-U10 to G750-T00" Firmware
This will be almost the same as part 3.
Extract the "G750-T00_mod8_265_FlashTool" rar file, and:
3. Open the flash_tool.exe file, which is used to flash the device (like the name suggests )
4. Once the program is open, click on the "scatter-loading" button. Search for the USB_Upgrade folder, and select the MT6592_Android_scatter.txt file (make sure that you select the scatter file from the new rar file, and that you are not using the same one as before).
5. Restoring your NVRam and IMEI
You might need to root your device again, check if need be, by searching for an app called SuperSU or RootKing. If they are not present, root the device again with Root Genius.
You will need to re-install the "adbd" app on your new ROM. If there is no Play Store present, search for a Play Store APK on Google. Once, installed check the 2 tickboxes and re-open MTK Droid Tools.
Click on the "IMEI/NVRAM" button restore your backed-up NVRAM and retype you IMEI codes. Once the restores are done, restart the phone and check if you can call someone. If it works, good job! You can now progress to the very last step! If not, check if you entered the IMEI correct. You probably made a Typo.
6. Installing final ROM
Now that you have installed pavel22's ROM, you have access to a recovery system. So copy the whole 3rd zip file to the root folder of you device. Turn off your device, and turn it on again but this time while holding both volume buttons and the power button until TWRP opens. Click on install, search your zip file and swipe right. When it finishes, do a factory reset from TWRP and then reboot the system normally. You should now have a fully working G750-U10 with Android 4.4.2. Congratulations!
This was my tutorial and personal experience with converting my G750-U10 to Android 4.4.2. It has been a wild ride, and i've reached points that I wanted to throw my device against the wall. I'm now very happy with my (feeling like) new device. I can now finally catch 'em all and become the best PokéMaster ever!
~ NeusAap.
Thank you for the tutorial. I know nothing about flashing.
However, I could follow the instruction until 4. Flashing the: "G750-U10 to G750-T00" Firmware.
The problem is that after I had clicked the "Download" button, and connected my device, the error popped up BROM ERROR : S_SECURITY_SECURE_USB_DL_IMAGE_SIGN_HEADER_NOT_FOUND (6045).
Could you please help? Thank you.

That error means that your bootloader must be locked. For me, it was acting weird. They way you want to (try) to unlock the bootloader is as follows:
1. Install ADB drivers. I used a tool made by XDA user Snoop05 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48915118)
2. Connect your device to your pc
3. Open up a command promt from windows

7. Now type "adb reboot-bootloader" and your phone will restart in fastboot mode.
8. Type "fastboot oem unlock" and follow the instructions on your phone screen (they are very small and hard to read).
If your bootloader is now unlocked, you should try to flash again. My phone gave an error at the step 9, but I still followed these 9 steps. So the error I got could also have been a visual programming error, or bug.
I hope this helps! Keep me up to date

Same error. I tried several times with "fastboot oem unlock" but it didn't work: err 0x7000. I could't find anything helpful on the internet.
The odd thing is when i typed "fastboot getinfo-bootloader" I got "(bootloader) unlocked".
I just wanted to be a pokemon trainer too

That was the excact same error I was getting. Also the same deal with the oem get-bootinfo thingy. Are you sure that while flashing you have unticked the "preloader" and the "usrdata" sectors? That is what did it for me honestly

Alright, then skip step 3 and go to step 4. I might have screwed up the step orders (It's hard to remember in what order I did all the steps ) if that works, i'll change the OP. I'm dorry if thats the case.

You mean flashing the G750-T00 fw and then the chinese one? So I have to reinstall the original fw? Cause currently I'm running the chinese

Yes, flash the g750-t00 one, and then the rom that you want if that worked. I think that I might have skipped that whole firmware downgrage rom
Thank you for answering
I tried what you had told me to do, but when I typed "fastboot oem unlock", the phone told me to use Volume Up/Down button. I used "Volume Up" button to unlock bootloader but it failed - err 0x7000 same as Iroh96, I guess. So I typed "fastboot getinfo-bootloader"; however, I got "waiting for device" instead of "(bootloader) unlocked". Then, I tried step 4 but it was still an error 6045. I don't know what to do next.
Why is it so hard to be a pokemon trainer?
hi, i couldn't download the:
"Rooted with twrp recovery inbuild base rom"
because the link is not available.
is this really necessary?
if yes, can you give me another link to download it?
i wanna start follow the steps but first i need all the downloads
Inquiries
I already read and downloaded all files which included in jacktackles thread.. I even read the whole posts
My point of view is, im kinda a noob to root business and afraid to end up by destroying my device especially when I contacted an Egyptian -who had already converted his phone- and he didn't recommend to do this.. so please bare with me.
*first of all is the deal link for "Rooted with twrp recovery inbuild base rom" is this really necessary?
*2nd point is my phones build, its B116. Can I proceed converting my phone or it won't work?
Thanks in advance
FOR THOSE WHO ARE HAVING TROUBLE UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER:
I found this post from Pavel22

Good luck! I successfully converted my Huawei G750-U10 to G750-T00. Now, I'm on Kitkat 4.4.2. Thanks for this in-depth tutorial, btw. Was really a great help.

I can't download the KitKat rom from needrom.is there any other link?????
Hi mates! I'm stuck in the bootloader unlock step; it keeps showing the 0x7000 error and it doesn't let me flash anything with the SP Flash Tool (guess it's because of the 0x7000 error). I tried to follow the Pavel22 guide posted up there... i can flash the rework-secro succesfully, but i get the 4008 error when flashing the whole rom. Can someone help me? Thanks!!

Lg V20 H910 (up to 20h) (root, twrp, and more!) Noob guide!

i am making this post because i have an lg v20 running 20h. there was no root guides available, so i decided to root mine using an older guide. it succeeded, but was very hard and time consuming. Being a noob at the time, i was also extremely nervous that i could possibly brick my phone or screw something up. i didn't, and no part of this should brick yours either. ***However - if you do somehow break your device in any way, that is on you. by completing these steps, you assume full responsibility. now that we have that out of the way, lets continue. at the end of this guide, you should have a rooted device with your choice of os (7 or 8 - or even a custom rom if you choose!). you should also have twrp. this guide would not have been possible without users runningnak3d and clsA
**** Also, during this Proccess, Your Phone WILL be wiped clean!!! don't forget to back up photos, videos, etc...*****
don't download any other files than from this guide.
1. download these files (required) https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/4578/H91510e_00_VTR_CA_OP_1205.kdz (for a rootable os that we can flash, - get this also (required) https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/guide-patch-lgup-to-unlock-features-t3652222 this program is called lg up and has been patched to work with this phone. you will also need this. https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903990218. these are the root files and need to be all in the same folder as where lg up is installed. you will also need to have access to fastboot and need to have adb installed. that is pretty easy, give it a google search if you still need help.
if you are running 32 bit, get this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
this is the OS. get nougat, which has like three less steps (you can't upgrade to oreo on this os once rooted) or scroll down and get the oreo file. nougat (really old version) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1S82HVNt2rAtXgBY499IBJnoCVFnpCf_X/view
Oreo - get this first file, and the ones under it. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262904015326
***https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=283977*** You have to have this file if getting oreo. if you chose nougat, then don't get this.
2. Now that you have everything downloaded and installed, put your phone into download mode. (power it off, hold the volume down button and plug in a usb c cable attached to your pc. don't stop holding volume down until you see download mode.)
3. once it is in download mode, open up lg up. select your device, (it should be in standby mode, according to lg up) and click dump (this is a total backup of the phone, you are lucky you know this right now, I didn't when i rooted mine) . it will bring up a file explorer, select where you want it to save to. (I chose my desktop). once you have a folder selected., it will bring up a bunch of options for partitions. click select all and uncheck user data. ****Make SURE that you don't unplug your phone during any part of this process or any other process in this guide, it will permanently brick it. ***** ow that you have selected everything but userdata, click start.
4. once that finishes, you will have made a full backup of your phone in case something goes wrong.
then click the partition DL button and select the h915 v10e kdz file (the file that i said was the rootable os we can flash) (the first file you downloaded). make sure bin file stays checked. then click start. once that finishes, your phone should automatically reboot into an old nougat operating system. then go to settings, enable developer options, and turn on usb debugging. that is easy, if you can't figure it out, google is your friend. now you should have no cellular signal. this is not the permanent ROM.
5. go to the play store and download terminal emulator for android. (once usb debugging has been enabled
then go ahead and go to the folder where you extracted the root files/package. hold shift and right click to open a command windows there or powershell, whatever your pc says. open 2 of those windows. then, in the first one, type, adb logcat -s dirtysanta
****don't close this window.*****
then in the other window, type STEP1.BAT
*****don't close this window.***** It may take a minute, but after a while it will let you type again. once you can, type run-as con
chmod 0777 /storage/emulated/0/*
6. then, pull up the window you used the logcat command in. leave it there so you can watch it
then, on your phone, go to the terminal emulator and type applypatch /system/bin/atd /storage/emulated/0/dirtysanta
once you do that, glance at the logcat window. once it says to run step 2, go to the window where you typed step1.bat. type STEP2.BAT
at this point, your phone should go ahead and reboot and say fastboot mode up at the top. now, go to your window where you typed all the .bats and type STEP3.BAT. wait until your phone reboots and you will see a screen saying that you can;'t use your phone. this is bogus, just ignore it and wait like 10-15 seconds for it to get past that screen. then it will boot that android and you should get a green screen.
Now, quickly, pull the battery from your phone. leave it out for a little while while we prepare the next steps.
If you want oreo, scroll to where it says OREO in capital letters. if you want nougat, scroll to where it says NOUGAT.
NOUGAT
use the file that you downloaded if you selected nougat - it should be a zip. it will be called h910-10r. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE. place it on a pre formatted micro sd card. then, place the battery and sd card back in your phone. also, unplug the phone. then, hold down the volume down key and hold hold the power key. once you see the lg logo, release the power key and immediately hold the power key again. then, you should get a screen that asks if you want to reset your phone. use your volume keys to navigate and select yes, then again confirm it. then, after letting it reboot, it should go into twrp. once there, go to wipe\and select format data. then type yes to confirm. then, go back to the main screen and click wipe again. go ahead and click advanced and wipe your dalvik cache. once done, go to home screen and click install. select the select storage option down at the bottom and change to sd card. then find the h910 zip file and install it. then go ahead and reboot your phone, you will have a rooted android 7 rom. you will also have signal. then download supersu from the play store and open it to have root.
OREO
use the file that you downloaded if you selected oreo - it should be a zip. it will be called something along the lines of full stock oreo rooted. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE. place it on a pre formatted micro sd card. also, go to your root package folder and find the twrp image file and put that on your sd card. then go get the mk200 zip file and also place that on your sd card. then, place the battery and sd card back in your phone. also, unplug the phone. then, hold down the volume down key and hold hold the power key. once you see the lg logo, release the power key and immediately hold the power key again. then, you should get a screen that asks if you want to reset your phone. use your volume keys to navigate and select yes, then again confirm it. then, after letting it reboot, it should go into twrp. once there, go to wipe\and select format data. then type yes to confirm. then, go back to the main screen and click wipe again. go ahead and click advanced and wipe your dalvik cache. once done, go to home screen and click install. select the select storage option down at the bottom and change to sd card. then find the oreo full rooted zip and install it then, install the mk2000 file. after you have done this, click install image and select the twrp. the reason you need to re flash this is because that oreo file re installs the stock recovery. then install the twrp. now reboot your phone. you will have a rooted android 8 rom. you will also have signal. then download a magisk 6.0 manager apk from chrome browser to have root.
IF this worked and your enjoying root give me a thanks.
This is redundant to the existing h910 root guide, all you did was copy their work and re-post it

Yes, that is why i gave them credit. However, It is more noob friendly and takes the time to explain what they are doing to their own phones as well as give them the option for nougat or oreo, something that none of the other guides have.
Ok, so I did it sucessfully, it's was still very complicated for me as some info is vague for a beginner. But after searching and retrying, and retrying, it worked. but go to runningnak3d post to get more info, and he wanted me to use sd card to root, but that did not work for me.. Your method worked for me. Thanks

your guide is good
+1 for for linking to the missing files from the old guide
+1 for mentioning me and @runningnak3d
you could break up the long paragraphs and bullet style the steps in order so it's easy to follow
theirs a video here of the steps and how the command windows should look > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnRWnSHLGSc
this is where allot get confused in the guide.
I also don't remember you mentioning doing the battery pull after STEP1 when the phone sometimes hangs then run STEP2
I would also change the link to the H915 kdz to the android file host file in case LG changes it.
Their was a guy recently that could not get LGUP working you could make note that you may need the 32 bit VS 2010 > https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
Any how, the guide is OK and the steps are not that bad, after a few tries most anyone can learn it.

alright, thank you so much for the advice! 1. i don't want to switch to bullets because when i was trying runningnak3d's guide, it seemed overwhelming. also people can comment on the step number that they were lost at. 2. i will change the kdz to something else if the file does change. i did in fact mention the battery pull step, if you ever need to find something in a page, hit control and f and then search the page.. i will add the 32 bit file. Thanks!

W O W . . .
What a way to rip-off runningnak3d's guide.
I mean, I can understand rewriting it... I did the same. But, just to parse it out for me to follow better.
But your statement "...there was no root guides available..." is just BS.
Below is my guide... for me to do the process.
Creation date on the text file was November 7, 2017. Just over a week after runningnak3d made the original post.
Difference is, I didn't feel the need to post someone else's work, in an attempt to try claiming credit for it, due to nothing more than a "rewrite".
What you meant to do is this: (FIFY)
Cool guide for rooting your LG V20. Works for 20h, too!

Search in You Tube for "How to Root install TWRP for LG V20 H910 Edition!" from user NewTechBegins. This is very good video tutorial, step by step.
Hello, so nothing happens for me after I enter the code into terminal emulator, what am I missing?
After all these done I'm rebooted to secure start-up where I need to enter password. Tried my 4 digit VIN and didn't work. As suggested earlier in this thread I pulled battery and wipe everything and install Oreo_full_rooted.zip, mk2000, and TWRP 3.3.1-0. It boots up the same to the secure start-up.
I might have done differently in process.
1. H91510e_00_VTR_CA_OP_1205.kdz I downloaded did NOT match MD5 on its download page. Tried twice and it was the same. I went ahead and used it.
2. I ran into "adb server is out of date, killing.." message but was able to download an adbfix and somehow got through
3. STEP1.BAT and the rest of BAT were not accepted in Win10 powershell so I had to enter them by hand and it went smoothly with no error
4. I used twrp 3.3.1-0 as suggested in NewTechBegins' youtube clip
5. Phone boots into scramble messages like shattered warning sign before LG logo appeals. It will eventually enter twrp or secure start-up after some wait. Takes longer than it should, 5 minutes or so.
Wish to stay on Oreo but might try the 10R Rom if I have no other choice.
Please help.
(Secure start-up appeared the first time after step 3 where it was supposedly be a green screen and I can pull battery. It didn't. It went to secure start-up. I pulled battery anyways and rebooted into TWRP, I was asked to enter password again. After a few wrong attempts I was able to bypass it and enter TWRP to proceed with install)
edit: Eventually succeed by not installing TWRP after flashing OREO and MK2000. Rebooted into Secured Start-up again, pull battery and rebooted into FACTORY Recovery and deleted all user data from there. Rebooted and Android setup began.
Note: BE SURE TO FORMAT DATA AGAIN in TWRP after flashing OREO and MK2000 to have a clean start. Would be nice if it was mentioned in this tutorial.

Dont try to install h915 instead just try dirty santa method which will install temporary twrp recovery there install h910 20h pre rooted 8.0 rom and install mk2000 v2.2 kernel and install newer version of twrp and you are good to go
No bricking risk and nothing dont try to do corss flashing of h915 its not that accurate also there is model issue in crossflashing instead doing that do dirsty santa and install h910 20h simple

So how do you use dirty santa method for h910 20h? All the guides I've seen want you to crossflash.

I didn't do crossflashing i first installed twrp throught dirty santa which then you have to open from recovery then there is android 8.0 h910 stock rom pre rooted i used or you can use your custom rom to flash then there is an kernel mk2000 file also to flash from twrp after you installed new rom for fixing errors like static screen and like that thats it also if you flash android 8.0 stock of h910 rom you will get a password during booting process just attempt it wrongs for many trys wrotten on it until you see wipe the data prompt and you will factory reset your phone and its ready to go maybe you will be promoted to twrp so you have to factory reset through wipe option ok and you are good to go one thing do it only on h910 not other model there is 0% chance of hard bricking your phone if you did this and no signal problem
Also to understand more go a see my qna with author of this post in this post obviously ok or if you meed more help reply me i will text you

no no need to downgrade anything just find any video which says TWRP installation for LG v20 h910 dirty Santa and flash it but wait I seen in all zip files of dirty Santa there will a final step in that folder called step 3 that file is a batch file just open it in notepad and you will see there is written TWRP for I think us995 just rename it all of them to that name which TWRP in that folder ok for example if the name of the TWRP in dirty Santa folder is twrph910.img
you have to rewrite the same and exact name with .img in that batch file this ting will not tell any YouTuber or in the website cuz, I find it in curiosity and founded that the TWRP name was wrong so I just renamed it in that batch file and it worked before it it wasn't working also download the exact LG v20 h910 TWRP, not any other model TWRP or you will hard brick it man it feels so bad I one time hard bricked my LG next day I bought the device now I just sold it I change the mobo to LG h910 then I did all that root things and then I sell that phone no I have sony xz3 which is way better and have snapdragon 845 octa-core which is the thing I needed in just 135$ I found that it was japan model refurbished but has all things new and original like poled panel and stuff... well if you need more help just don't reply m on XDA you will not get the answer quickly here my social media account

Installed twrp no problem. Had installation issues (error 7) and edited the file. Tried it again and came up with error 1. Saw someone else on xda say to extract the boot img and mount to the recovery partition successfully. Welp, I guess I wasn't so lucky. I can not get into twrp recovery or any recovery and my v20 (910) boots into the Lg android splash screen. My desktop can not see any adb device but it registers a device being plugged in. What's the verdict, soft or hard bricked? Everything was cleared besides twrp prior to error 7 and 1.

SM-X200 (Galaxy Tab A8) Root Guide

New to this community I hope this post is welcome here. Thanks to many of you I got a successful first time root and thought I would make a decent guide for others that stumble across this eventually.
This guide is for Windows only. I'm sure it would work similarly on Linux, but this is specific to Windows.
I AM NOT RESPONSABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE OR BRICKED DEVICE. That is always a risk you take with rooting, altering any software/firmware. This method did work for me, and if followed correctly it should work for you. Make sure you are using the same device this guide is for. That all being said, if anything goes wrong, this device is very easy to fix bootloops, soft bricks etc. Carry on.
YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA AND YOUR TABLET WILL BE RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULT!! BACKUP ANYTHING YOU DONT WANT TO LOSE BEFORE STARTING THIS ROOT.
YOU WILL NEED A COMPUTER. This is NOT a hardware only root, in this guide, again, we will be using Windows 10.
Before starting anything, this will be the software list you need to download and install before moving forward...
The latest release of Magisk: GitHub - topjohnwu/Magisk: The Magic Mask for Android v.25.2 was the latest release at the time of this post, it might be updated when you are reading this. It should still work the same.
Odin: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachments/odin3-v3-14-1-zip.5158505/ this should be a direct download link. If you dont like that, here is a link to the XDA fourm itself, make sure to download the Odin3 3.14.1.zip, ( 3.13.1.zip is not a link, reddit just highlights it because of the .zip, you just need to scroll down and find it in the forum, should be 1st or second in the list) NOT THE PATCHED VERSION.
The Firmware for your device (SM-X200) This is where I got mine, mind you it's the USA version: https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-X200/XAR/X200XXU1AVC1 If you are out of the states, there is many other sources for your exact firmware version, just type the second half of your build number (starting with "X200...etc.' into the browser followed by firmware then "download". The build number can be found in the software information inside of the "About tablet" section at the bottom of your settings.
The Samsung USB drivers: Samsung Android USB Driver | Samsung Developers You will need these to ensure a proper connection between your PC and tablet
And finally, this is optional, this already patched boot.img file already converted to .tar: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Rm4BPaIVXWClhjKFencRnheJlDB3RRVm/view This is a working boot file, at least for me and many others on XDA, feel free to make your own if you wish, it will be explained in the guide below.
P.S Using the boot file above will save you some time and may help you avoid errors or crashes inside of odin or on your tablet. Also, better for those not as experienced.
The Guide now starts below.
Enable Dev options. (This is done by going into the "About Tablet" section at the very bottom of your settings, clicking "Software information", then clicking build number multiple times until a prompt shows up saying you are now a developer, or have unlocked dev settings.)
Enable OEM unlock inside of Developer settings.
Power off device, then hold both volume up and down buttons and plug your tablet into your PC to boot into download menu
Hold volume up once in download menu, to start OEM unlock prosses
When unlocked, the device with automatically factory reset
Set up device, Enable Wi-Fi either during or after setup prosses.
Re-Enable dev settings (as we did in step #1), and make sure "Enable OEM unlock" Is on and or grayed out.
Download latest firmware for your device and extract it using 7zip, (Link for firmware is at the begining of this guide) there should now be a list of 4 files starting with BL_, AP_, CSC_OMC, and HOME_CSC. (We won't be using HOME_CSC, more on that later).
Using Odin, install the AP BL and CSC . In the BL slot, click the BL, then go to the extracted firmware from earlier and select the file the file that starts with "BL_X200". Then give it a second to load in, move to the AP section. Click AP, then select the file from the extracted file again, that starts with "AP". And for CSC, select the file "CSC_OMC..." Not the "CSC_HOME..." After all the files are in the correct slots, click Start at the bottom of the Odin3 application.
Once odin is finished, you need to boot back into stock OS by holding down volume and power button to get out of download menu, if prompted to push power button during boot, do so.
Go through the setup again, enable Wi-Fi and check and make sure OEM unlock is still grayed out and enabled.
Download Magisk From there official GitHub on to your tablet (Link above)
Install Magisk
IMPORTANT!!
This is where you have two options, either skip these steps, and use the provided boot.img file, or make your own (this is harder, you may run into errors and issues, but most of you have been doing this much longer than me, this is just a guide from someone new to this, so I thought my incite may be easier to understand) SKIP STEPS #14-#21 if you chose to download the provided boot.tar file at the beginning of this guide. (I would recommend reading them still, because understanding the prosses will help with a successful root, whether or not you choose to make your own boot.img file, this advice is from experience. Knowledge is power, right?
14. If you choose to make your own patched boot file with magisk, go back to your PC, extract the "AP_X200..." file inside of the firmware file you already extracted, send that file to your Tab A8 (again this is for the SM-X200 ONLY!) via plugging your tablet into your laptop (MAKE SURE ITS POWERED ON AND UNLOCKED)
14.5. You will be prompted to allow data transfer between your tablet and the PC something like " allow this PC to access...etc". Allow it. Open your tablets root storage from the file manager on your windows computer. This PC, then select your tablet. You should see the root files.
15. Return back to the folder of the extracted AP_X200... file you extracted previously; it should be in a standard file format now, not a .tar file
16. Find the "Boot.img" file, copy it and return to your tablets root file
17. Paste the boot.img file you copied from the extracted AP_X200... file, into the root directory of your tablet. Then unplug your tablet and return to your tablet for the next step.
18. Open magisk, click install on the top option, to the right of "Magisk" NOT THE ONE THAT SAYS "App". Then click "Select and patch file" find your "boot.img" file you previously copied over to your tablet in step #16/#17, its often in recent files, but should always be in the tab "Galaxy tab A8" You can find that tab by tapping the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner. Once there, select the "boot.img" file.
19. Once you find your file, click "Let's go" back in the main Magisk screen
20. Once completed, it should show that it installed the patched boot.img file in your tablets download directory. You have now successfully patched the boot file. If you get an error or a crash, try again. If you keep running into errors, make sure your file is the correct "boot.img" file. Don't be shy, re-read the guide, start over, if necessary, we haven't gone too far yet to try again.
21. Plug your tablet back into your PC, go back to your tablets root directory via your computers file manager, open whichever file Magisk installed its patched "boot.img" file (it should be in the downloads folder of your tablets root directory) copy it to your computer. You can move it anywhere but if you move it back to where the other firmware files that we downloaded and extracted are, you will need to right click the file, hover over 7zip, then click "Add to archive". Then, in the section of the options where it says "archive format" change the file type to tar. You will need to do this step either way, but make sure it's done BEFORE moving it to the other files we extracted earlier, because it will prompt you to replace the file, we don't want to do that.
22. Now take your tablet, unplug it if it's still plugged in, and power off. Once it's powered down completely, hold both the volume up and down buttons like earlier to get into download mode when unlocking the OEM, and plug it into the PC (WHILE STILL HOLDING THE VOLUME BUTTONS UNTIL THE MENU APPEARS). Once the download menu appears, (should be familiar by now) click once on the up-volume button, and you will now be ready to download your files to root your device! Yayy!
23. Open Odin3, and it should have on the left a, "Log" info box, "<ID: somthing/somthing> Added! ("something/something will be numbers, just make sure it says added, that means it sees your Tablet is in download mode and ready for your patched files"
24. You will see 4 slots to the right of the Log page inside of Odin. They will read (top to bottom) "BL", "AP", "CP", "CSC, and "USER DATA". Only BL, AP, and CSC will be used in this prosses, and should be the only ones with check marks to the left of them. If the check marks are not checked, check them.
25. Now, (don't worry almost done!) In the BL slot, click the BL box, go to the extracted firmware from earlier (Step 8) and select the file the file that starts with "BL_X200". Then give it a second to load in, move to the AP section. Select it, then find your boot.img file you made using magisk, or downloaded via the link at the top of this post. Select it, and now move on to CSC. Click it, find your "CSC_OMC" file (you might get away with using the CSC_HOME..." file, but at this point your tablet shouldn't have anything you want to save, as it should have been wiped when unlocking the bootloader, so just take my advice and use the stock CSC_OMC file.
26. Now, you should have files in the BL slot, the AP slot, and the CSC slot. Double check and make sure there are nothing in the "CP" slot, nor the "USERDATA" slot. Once you are ready, and all files are in the correct slots, and your tablet is ready to start downloading, (should have an empty progress bar under the "cancel" instructions on your tablet screen) go ahead and click " Start" at the bottom of the Odin application.
27. This prosses should be relatively quick, less than a minute, but in my many tries, sometimes it was quick, other times it took a minute or two. Once done, the Odin app on your PC should read "Pass" in a green box towards the top right corner of the app, under the Odin logo.
28. Proceed to shut down the device, by holding down on the Power and Volume Down keys, once the screen goes black, lift off the power AND volume down key, and immediately press down on the Power key (again) and the Volume UP this time. (Some guides have said it's not necessary to release from the power key when the black screen starts, and to only change from the volume down key to the volume up key, but in my experience, this may lead to a bootloop *Don't worry, it's fixable*. So, I recommend you lift off both and then immediately start clicking the power *again* and volume up) This should bring you into the system recovery menu. Use the volume down key to scroll down, and the volume up key for up, the power button is to select the option in the menu. Scroll down to "Wipe data/factory reset" and select it. Confirm when prompted, and it will reset your device using the firmware you just installed.
29. Setup as usual, enable the Wi-Fi, double check that OEM unlock is still enabled and grayed out in the developer menu (you will have to re enable the dev menu). Then go to Chrome, type in "Root checker apk" and download the apk, should be available in the first or second result of Google. MAKE sure to allow Chrome downloads, it will prompt you when the apk is downloaded. Open it, and check for Root. This is when I got a pop-up from Magisk, but it may happen at any time. Whenever it happens, just follow its instructions, it will reboot your tablet, then when it's powered back on, go back to root checker. When you check for root, wait a couple seconds, a pop up should show up with a count down, allow it, and it will show that you...are now...ROOTED!
YAY, you did it congratulations. This took me probably 12 hours and many different forums, because there has been a great debate on how to do this properly, but from what I've experienced this is all the right info and guides shoved into one. Many thanks to the XDA forums, and especially user "tofor" on the XDA forums, for the patched boot file when people where still having issues making their own.
I may make a YouTube video explaining all this, but I'm not super into the idea. We will see, depends how this post does and if people still need help. Again, I'm not a pro when it comes to rooting. I'm a nerd, I know my way around tech, but I was an iPhone kid, so I grew up with jailbreaking, which was 100% easier cause most the work was done for you. That all being said, I'm sure I missed some terms, or dint explain something perfectly, so please, to all of you who are much more experienced with this, FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME!! Have any questions, I'll try to get to them, but I'm not super active. If I don't get to you, I'm sure somebody will. I really hope this helps; this was hell for me.
Great job on the guide! Worked perfectly for me on the 1st try!
Thanks for the guide, also there is TWRP out there now for this tablet

Notes: What's posted below is a work in progress, but it should suffice to unblock efforts to build custom ROMs for this impressive tablet. This is unofficial and unsupported, so the usual caveats apply. Since we don't flash the bootloader, you...

On step 25 for "Then give it a second to load in, move to the AP section. Select it, then find your boot.img" when I try to add the boot.img in the AP section it does not show the boot.img for me to select like it does with the other files.
Edit: I found out I needed to select the .tar and not extract and select the boot.img
Edit: Rooted doing what I need now! Thank you for such an awesome tutorial!
Sorry new to rooting here, for Step 8 do I need to go to the blue download screen for Odin to work? My odin is stuck on setupconnection
I only want to change the ''tap'' sounds when the display is touched. Do I really need to do all of this (root access) or is there an easier way to do that? This seems like a lot of work and I use this tablet regularly.
Hello and Thank you for your work.
Do you think your guide works for android 12? knowing that I found my version on samfw.com, namely the X200XXU1BVI6 version (CSC European Union). Thank you.

yes the only thing i did was
extract the boot.img from the tar
put it on my phone patched it with magisk
put the new patched file on my pc.
created a new ap tar using all the old files it had except i added the new patched boot.img
after all files are in i created the .tar
used the same BL_X200XXU1BVI6_X200XXU1B
used the new ar has all original files except the modified boot.img
used the same CSC_XAR_X200XAR1BVI6
it worked super su says its rooted. been at it all morning coudl not have done it without this guide
Got as far as step 28, where things went a bit off.
After the download from odin was complete, the device immediately shut down and starting going through a bootloop without me having touched power or volume at all.
Then after getting into the system recovery menu and doing a factory reset, it didn't reset the device with the firmware and when trying to power it on it just remained in the same bootloop as before doing the factory reset.
I'm using the boot.img file with firmware EUX - SMX200XXS1BVJ1 which I'm pretty confident is the correct version as it matches the build number on the device.
This is what I get on the system recovery after doing a factory reset.
at step 28 your supposed to
"Wipe data/factory reset" and select it. Confirm when prompted, and it will reset your device using the firmware you just installed.
it reinstalls the tablets new firmware
edit - it wont just start up the tablet like everything is brand new out of the box. thats why you need to "Wipe data/factory reset
I did factory reset. That's what produced the lines after -- Wiping data...
After factory resetting it doesn't seem to install anything and just goes right back to the system recovery menu. Rebooting the device at that point just has it going back into a bootloop.
Got it working.
Had to redownload the firmware from step 8 onto the device and then use magisk to make my own boot.img
Things to note in case anyone needs them is that the file magisk makes might not be called boot.img, in which case you do need to rename it to boot.img for it to work and also if you get stuck with being unable to access the download mode on your device, you can use FRP HiJacker to fix it.
I'm also stuck on "SetupConnection" in Odin. I enabled USB debugging, but that didn't seem to help.
Worked, thanks for this tutorial and your work with it.
regards
mkpcxxl
Hello, I conjured up the Android 13 on the A8 today. But unfortunately I can't get it rooted. The root checker says it's not rooted. What do I have to do to make it count as rooted again?
I got it solved myself and now have Android 13 on Samsung A8 (x200) and rooted :-D
Worked for me.
I initially had issues and thought I had bricked it, but a combination of Odin issues and possibly cable/bad firmware issues caused the problems and not this guide.
Nice one.
