I know what you are thinking :
" Can't this Guy just search the forums first or Google it ? "
Guys I have tried all the things I can do and I don't find solution of my problem anywhere. I have partitioned my SD card at least 10 times and I am tired of it.
My problem is different . I tried s2e but its of no use.
I partitioned my 8gb SD card as ext3 , installed link2sd and tried to mount it and rebooted. And it said can't mount SD automatically at boot. But that problem is with everyone.
But then I tried another 2gb SD card which came inside the box with phone and its a success.
I AM able to mount my 8gb sd-ext but after a quick reboot.
So now I know that the problem is with the SD card.
One more thing is that whenever I partition any of my SD card with minitool, eject it and reinsert it to the PC, it says can't read SD card and asks to format it. And in order to place my backup files to SD, I have to format it. But after that I can't mount sd-ext.
I have
A Samsung 8gb class 4 SD card and
A Samsung 2gb class ( don't know) SD card.
Suggestions plz
Thanks in advance.

About which ROM-u is word?
With mini Tool ... you need make primary FAT32 partition and primary ext4 partition.
Before save all what you need from SD Card on HDD.
When you delete partition on SD Card in Mini Tool... , click on Apply,
after make primary partition, when partition is end, again click on Apply.

You are saying sd-ext doesn't mount itself ?
Is it ?
Have you tried fitdroid ? It mounts sd-ext automatically .

I have an lg p500 with an 8gb memory card an I've been reading a lot about sd-ext.
So what are its advantages and disadvantages????? What's the risk behind it(using vivekkalady's cwm touch 5.0.2.7)???? What's the swap size??? What do you suggest for me to set swap size and sd-ext size???????
Thx in advance!
Make sure ur card is class 4 or higher else it will actually slow things down.
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Yes it is but what are risks behind it and what's swap size??
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda app-developers app
Sd-ext partition is used to store apps and data by android(512 mb is enough for class 4 card)
swap partition is used to have virtual ram like thing(not needed for general avg users, if u want then 32mb is enough)
o1 has enough ram so won't need swap
---------- Post added at 12:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:19 AM ----------
ONLY sdext degrades SD card very slowly
SD ext + swap will degrade comparatively quicker
advantages more internal memory(SD ext) and more ram(swap)
Is it risky?? What happens when I remove SD card after partitioning it??

if u have moved apps to SD ext and then removed the card then tried to boot, ur phn won't start. so once u link apps to SD ext u have to keep SD card connected. only remove when phone is off or in recovery

Me too I had looooooooooooots of doubts but after I partitioned it today regretted every moment without ext!!!!!!
So I partitioned it through CWM 256 ext and 32 swap and when using link2sd it's exactly like apps are in /data(widgets...)
I don't know about risks coz I didn't face any
PM me for any question I'm ready to help!
I too have a doubt when I partitioning my SD card all my data in it will gonna erase

Yes, partitioning your SD card will format it and erase everything on it, so back it up first.
The point of an ext partition is to extend the internal memory, so you can load it up with apps and not run out of internal storage. This comes in handy on the ov which has very little internal memory to begin with. With an ext partition, you can use apps like link2sd to create symbolic links to your apps, so they can be on the sd card, but the "think" they are on the internal. This way you can move apps that can't be normally moved to the sd, or use widgets, which need to be on the internal memory. I, however like cronmod's ext scripts. They can be put in the init.d of some roms, and they will move your data partition, and/or dalvik, and/or data/apps to the ext. That way you don't have to manage apps like with link2sd. In a sense, it's like adding straight to the internal memory.
To partition your sd card, the easiest thing is to do it from a custom recovery. You won't get to choose the filesystem, but you can choose the size of the ext partition and swap. Keep swap at zero, as most phones here won't use it. Set your ext partition to ~10% of the size of the sd card.
If you want a different filesystem than your recovery gives you, you can use the minitool partition wizard on your pc with a card reader:

Is swap partition really helpful for low ram devices and O1??
Do we need to use any script to use of swap memory or is it done automatically??!
Edit: Good info about swap partition.
hope this can help you!

Actually swap is not needed for o1.Even on ics i have about 150-200 mb of free ram most of the time, and if u make swap partition u'll get even more free ram.But remember unused ram or free ram is nothing but waste of ram in linux, unlike windows.

Since your card has really less memory and you may require it for backups, songs, pictures, etc., I would advice you to install CM9.1 build#9 normally, no extensions. Really smooth, almost no bugs. Internal memory with this rom is a lot, all you will have to do is move your apps to sd card via titanium backup. No hassles, works great, enough internal memory for my usage.

Ext3 or ext4 both will be great..
i ll personally use ext3 partition..:good::good: working for me great..but you can go with both of them. But With recovery you can make only ext3 partition.. to create ext4 partition you have to use tools. i prefer minitool partition wizard..
and you can check the difference between the both partition system here

Here is my suggestion ...
Ext4 or ext3.. preferably ext4...
Don't use recovery for partition..because it slow down the mem card speed...I think making swap partition will slow down the men card ..

So what to use to partition sd? I used gparted and I can't install any sense 4...tried and worked till now jaggyrom 3.2.1, 4.0.3, 4.1, cm9, cm10.
for a week i'm trying to install jaggyrom 1.2, flyrom, htc sense 4...no luck for me. It worked one day htc sense 4 but with sdext with ext2 filesystem, i'm very confuzed.

I saw that if I make ext2 partition I can install sense 4 rom, it's wierd...why it's not installing on ext4 filesysytem.
About partitioning: I've partitioned thru recovery and the fat32 is with 4k cluster size and starts from sector 1, but the sd card came from factory with fat32 with 32k cluster size and starts from sector 8192...I'm worry about performance and wear level of the sd card.
Didi anybody knows about proper format of a sd card???
If anyone has a problem partitioning through recovery simply download and use mini tool partition wizard for the pc.. There are many tutorials available on how to use it, search youtube or this forum.
Is it possible to convert Fat32 partition to Ext 2,3 and 4 instead of creating new partition ?
Use "Mini tool home partition".
Main SD card should be fat32.
Only extension should be ext2/3/4.
