Hi guys!
Due to the extension restrictions on the RT it is not yet possible to natively play .flv files in the video player. But the RT ist very well capable of playing .flv as we all know, in form of flash video on websites.
It is possible to edit the whitelist and I just saw that someone even released an app with which you can edit the whitelist quite comfortably.
With all that said: Isn't there a possibility to play .flvs? Maybe an app, that opens them in IE and adds the local address to the whitelist automatically?
Doesn't it work if you tell it to open flv's with ie?
No, it doesn't. The page in IE just stays white.
Maybe you can add something to the whitelist that all local files are allowed to be played in the Browser with Flash?
Edit: I found an app in the store called "PressPlay Video" which plays .flvs after converting them.
Also the paid app YXPlayer can play flv files, albeit with a lot of stutter.
Try an app called mobile.HD Media Player.
you can play flv. on surface rt. just follow my instructions
first in control panel change location setting to China. now you will get app store of china (try to restart if it not works). after travelling all the way to china now copy this 迅雷看看 and just paste it in search box . you will get an app with blue and white color icon, some circular arrow. install it and enjoy.

hey guys, just wondering if there are any good media streaming apps out there, an app kinda like orb for the iphone where i can stream movies and songs from my pc to my phone. obviously there will be some apps out there that will do it but i just wanna see your recomendations, preferably freeware but if its paid i dont mind. i have a hd2 aswell so im not sure about compatability issues, resolution, touchscreen etc so hopefully someone with a hd2 has an app like the one i have described and can point me in the right direction
seriously no one knows of anything like im asking?
Have you tried Kinoma?
I use Kinoma to stream Audible content and Youtube daily. It has an Orb client built in as well. I haven't had great success with the Orb though. I think my library is so large that it takes a while for each screen of the library to appear. Once a file is selected the streaming works fine.
Well, for Windows Mobile I have written a widget with a streams database. The only negative point of the widget is that you can't stream from your computer, however you will have access to a database with over 11.000 television, webcam and radio streams.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525482
A paid version (and another demo version) can be found in the MarketPlace, the full version has quite some options.
But since you want to stream from your pc, you could try myStreams from the MarketPlace. You can add stream urls to the application, so if you setup your computer to stream the music (for example as radio or another setup) you can add the url to myStreams and play it from your mobile phone with your favorite player (and myStreams has also quite a huge database). However, only a paid version is available.
Kind regards,
Themuzz
Seems like some video/music formats can't be played on this pad.
Anyone know a good program to download that will let you play all formats?
and is everyones facebook widget force closing on them? like mine it keeps force closing.
Transformer only opens mkv, mp4, mp3, ogg as far as I know (I don't have the device). To open other formats you need to download apps - look into the apps thread or to Xoom forum for some direction (or search on market for file types you like to open).
for music use power amp. It works.
Rock player works for video, so thats every format covered?
Popular (for music) are also APE and MPC but searching the market reveals many, many apps that play them (and personally I convert all the ape files I get to flac anyway).
And yes, the facebook widget and the application itself "force closes" almost immediately.
I looked for the friend stream widget that I have on my Desire HD rom, but I guess that is part of HTC apps.

Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
vital player ( free ) is also working well for me.
however annoyingly when using MyNet ( dlna ) you cant choose a program to open the video files with so the file just errors with can play this video type
Currently trying to play a 1280x720 -x264- MKV file. Standard player is full of green blocks when trying to run it. Using Rock Player the picture is very clear but it's very jerky like the frame rate is about 5.
Am I doing something wrong? Surely it should play perfect?

currently you can't by reading most forums. best to convert until something comes up.
Using a Nexus7 tablet w/Skifta and an app called DVD Media PLayer by Hadapp.com.
This the only combo of apps I've found that "kinda" plays DVD iso files.
I'm using Skifta to browse for ISO's on my Ubuntu server via Samba, then Skifta hands off playback to DVDMP.
Problem is video opens and either is very distorted or plays at 2X/3X speed.
DVDMP is not even listed on Hadapp.com but is a top hit on Play store for DVD player.
Just curious if anyone is getting same results, has found a fix, or knows of another app.
I know I can encode into a different video format, but would rather not.
Thanks
Heh found that DVDMP was doing Air Push ads as well. So I really need different app.
Anyone?

There are some adds wothe the player, but I do not find them annoying. If you want to remove the adds, the app is only $5...
Let me know if it worked for you?
The latest version of TuneIn Radio Pro now supports custom URLs allowing you to add stations which are restricted from TuneIn (if you have the stream URL) or stations which don’t have an Android app. Since TuneIn Radio Pro can also record, this means you can now easily record from custom URLs.
Adding Custom URLs
While it can be done directly from the Android app, it can also be done by logging in to your account from the TuneIn website and adding your stream URL there.
Adding iHeartRadio URLs (Method May Stop Working Someday)
If you want to record a station which is only listed on iHeartRadio, you can bypass the restriction by adding it as a custom URL in TuneIn. Open the station’s stream on the iHeartRadio website from your computer. In the address bar there will be 4 numbers at the end, copy those. For example the address for Hot 107.9 is http://www.iheart.com/live/HOT-1079-1545 where “1545” is what we want. Now enter http://www.iheart.com/a/live/station/1545 in your address bar substituting 1545 for the 4 digit number of your station. This will bring up some plain text, find and copy the URL next to “shoutcast_url”. This URL has forward slashes that need to be removed (leave the backslashes) or else it won’t work. Once that is done the URL can be added to TuneIn from their website. If you want to test the URL before adding it, try it in VLC Player.
Adding Other URLs
If you want to grab the stream URL for something else, you can sometimes find the URL by monitoring incoming traffic using either HTTPFox on Firefox or the network tab in Developer Tools in Chrome. Then either look for a URL that resembles a stream or a URL which continues to download even after the stream has been playing. This can be seen in HTTPFox when the Received value keeps growing and in Developer Tools in Chrome when a URL’s timeline bar keeps extending. Not all streams are easy to grab this way.
Listening to Recorded Audio Elsewhere
While it is quite easy to record and playback audio from within TuneIn, say you want to move the file to your desktop or play it outside of TuneIn. The recorded files are stored under /sdcard/TuneIn Radio without a file extension. They will be in whatever extension the recorded stream was using, usually .aac or .mp3. On Android BSPlayer Free was able to play recordings without a file extension. Other apps may work, but many refuse to play a file with no extension. On the desktop VLC will play recordings, but only if the appropriate extension is added back to the file name.
Hi,
I have a NAS that share video file with smb, I used to open these files in ES file explorer and it will give me the option to open it in MX player. Recently I got my Nexus 6P with Android 6.0.1, and there is no such option anymore. The video will always default to use es file explorer video play. Anyway I can fix this?
Update:
I noticed in the app details page on the phone there is a "Open by default" option and inside there is "supported links" which has the value "*" . Maybe this is the cause? I used to developed an app that forwards intent to mx player and if I use "*" it will not work. I had to provide mime type so mx play show in the open list. Another thing I noticed is the problem is not only for MX player but for all other video streaming supported players. So it must be something changed in Marshmallow.
Thanks.

Is this a empty answer?
@ktsamy seems your post got posted blank.
Regarding the OP, hmm, I wonder if instead the problem is on ES's side. I don't know much about this area, though.
Same here, I can't get to make mx player appear in the list of players capable of playing a video from a smb share or a local dlna renderer
Issue still exists.
@zhumingvictor
@obladi64
@TeoLinuX
@CDB-Man
The issue is from the android itself.
There are 2 major issues.
1. Android 6 has a issue which will lead to disappearance of Apps. If you set app as default & Then clearing the defaults, many apps including MX, BS, VLC have disappeared from open with list. There is no way to bring them back other than uninstalling/disabling the app which you have set as default earlier in order to bring the missing apps back to list. The issue was reproducible even in Stock Nexus devices. But, it was fixed in 6.0.1
2. Pathpattern no longer works with many third party apps in newer android versions when host is set to *. This is one of the major issue. But, When you remove the host entry as you suggested, some apps will list MX Player incorrectly for unknown contents for a unknown reason. One more thing is that Google Chrome & Stock brower doesn't list the app for video files when it's removed. So, it can't be removed straight away.
BTW, after lot of test & trails I have found the solution for the issue. I have forwarded the same to the MX Player developer as well. It's now fixed on MX Player code base. Next update will bring the fix to both issues.
Thanks for your effort. My workround is to make MX player default for all required file types by opening files from local storage. Than MX Player will be default for smb files too.
