Help installing custom rom - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my galaxy note 10.1 using a method that I believe installs the factory rom with root injected using this method: http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-10-1-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-10-1/
I put the Baked rom onto my external sd card from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2120761
and when I boot into recovery mode and select the rom zip file to install from my sd card, it fails at the following "E:failed to verify whole-file signature /n E: signature verification failed"
Do I need to reroot with clock work mod recovery? (Link to the latest version?) Do I need to reinstall the stock image (without root) first before doing that? Do I need to wipe data/factory reset and/or clear my cache partition as well?
I'm just trying to install a custom rom and am thinking I want something new and I found baked, should I go with it? What are my other options for the latest android roms or just good roms in general? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have failed to root with CWM recovery .
Use a root method from XDA not some external site .
All the roms are in the development sections there is no best you decide .

So should I reinstall the stock image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016792
The install cwm from here and then do the same thing as before (i.e. copy rom zip to external sd card and install in clockwork)?
Do I need to clear cache partition or anything else?
Thanks!

Just flash a CWM root and recovery from development section .

[Q] SNS I9020T Stuck at "google" screen with unlocked padlock symbol

Hi I'm aware that there are similar threads as to this issue but the problem i'm having is my computer being able to detect my usb storage. Since I cannot boot the phone up I can't turn on usb storage. How do I go about flashing the right software since I cannot mount the files to my sdcard through my computer?
As it stands right now:
1. SNS status = unlocked
2. I am able to boot in to clockwork recovery v3.0.2.4
3. I have tried a factory reset/wipe data from recovery
4. I am using windows vista, have downloaded the proper driver (i think)
I followed the nexusshacks guide so far
can anybody help?
Go into clockwork recovery, mounts and storage, mount USB.

Thanks for that! Now I know I can access my sd card. But now I just need help flashing the default software so I can access my sns again! This is my 1st android phone and would really appreciate a straight forward guide as to how to get out of my bad situation and back to a full system recovery. Once again here are my specs:
1. SNS I9020T Running Gingerbread 2.3.4
2. Phone status = unlocked in bootloader mode
3. I have wiped my SD card clean and tried a full factory/data reset through clockwork recovery
4. All I can do it boot to bootloader or boot to cw recovery
5. I need to flash the default software for this phone so I can start a new
Can anyone help me out? would be greatly appreciated
Do you want to reflash the stock ROM or do you want to try a custom ROM? I'd suggest you download a custom ROM, for example Cyanogenmod 7. If you do, it'll also have a compatible kernel and you'll be running your phone again in no time.
Otherwise, search the development section for a stock ROM that suits your phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=883)
Now, I'll assume you download CM7 but the same steps apply to the stock ROM.
1) Download the ROM, it'll be around 86mb in size, a zip file.
2) Copy it to your SDcard using CWM
3) In CWM, go to "install zip from sdcard"
4) "Choose zip from sdcard", obviously, select the ROM.zip file you just downloaded
5) Let it run the installer
6) Reboot
Should work, good luck, let me know if something goes wrong
Greetz
also if you haven't installed the su zip file yet do that. in clockwork recovery mount the usb, copy the su zip file to /sdcard, unmount, and install zip from sdcard.
not sure how you lost the stock 2.3.4 rom, but you can get the GRJ22 rom back onto your ns. read these threads if that's your cup of tea:
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056062
if you're brave and step over to the dark side of custom roms, i can guarantee you won't turn back. i've tried several, but i usually oscillate back to nscollab. you'll want titanium backup to backup your apps and rom manager to make nandroid backups. also when you flash between different roms make sure you wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache to prevent foreclose issues.
Download one of the stock/ota roms from vulcan's post.
Extract the zip, and put boot.img in the same folder as fastboot.
<fastboot flash boot boot.img>
Reboot.
See if that works.

[Q] Dont know how>>>>>

Hello everyone. I saw the post of one of the developer ladies about Vallhala and I downloaded from the link bellow, the instructions say copy to root sd card and follow the certain directions, my phone is already rooted and all I am trying to do is just download rom that's gonna speed up my phone and give me a different look. I don't get the part how do I copy those files to my sd card just highlight them and copy to SD card??? I will really appreciate if someone can help me out with that. Thank you very much.
You can either take out the sdcard (settings->sdcard & storage->unmount sdcard) physically put it in a card reader and plug it to your pc or you can plug your phone itself to the pc and choose to mount storage).
Basically if the ROM is under 180MB you can use your dropbox account or simply download ROM directly to your phone.

Thank you very much to all responders. I am very sorry for bothering with these what might sound stupid questions. i tried to copy that new vallhala from white I unmounted sd card put it in but when I am trying to copy and paste in to it it says the disk is protected in general it doesn't allowing me to copy. I do have clockworkmod and every time I am trying to reboot in recovery when the black screen comes out with droid robot it starts installing but it says failed after three lines. All I want is custom rom to make my phone faster and customizable icons and themes. I would really appreciate if somebody can just put easiest steps and link with nice rom and the way to download it. I am new to this rom downloads and install things. Again thank you very much to whoever will respond. My phone is Galaxy s 4g firmware version 2.3.6 model SGH-T959V build number gingerbread.VUKJ6. if that means anything. Rooted thank you again
On your phone download the rom once its downloaded boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache and a factory reset. Goto advanced and make sure your mounts are unmount mount mount unmount. Then go back and click on install zip from sd card and scroll down to downloads and select the rom you wanna install click yes, let it install. Then fix permissions and reboot

That sounds like you are on standard/stock recovery, not on CWM. Before you go any further, can you tell us what ROM you were on previously? If you're not sure, boot the phone up, go into Settings -> About phone and tell us the Firmware version, Baseband version, Kernel version, and Build number say.
if you are on stock recovery, we'll have to get you flashed with a ROM/kernel that has CWM recovery before you'll be able to flash Valhalla.

[Q] Help! Can't restore galaxy s3 to factory rom

I have a galaxy S3 phone (AT&T i747) and I've rooted it. Also I've backed up the factory rom using clockworkmod and get several files in one folder named "1970-04-15.10.19.58", and then I install "rom manager" and tried several different roms. Then I want the factory rom back, but when I went into the clockworkmod recovery mode, I can't find the backup! I tried to back up the phone again to see if they are stored in the same place, but very weirdly, I couldn't find the back-up folder anywhere while I still can see the back up folder when I want to restore in clockworkmod recovery mode. I do remember the version of clockworkmod changes (probably) because of the rom manager (which asks to flash a recovery before install roms), and I wonder if it's the difference in version that cause this problem.
Could anyone tell me why this happens and how I can get the back-uped version in the clockworkmod recovery mode? Thank you very much!
question update
It seems the clockworkmod messes up the folders. Now I get a folder with name 0, and other folders with "legacy" and "obb", does anybody how to fix the folder problem in clockworkmod? Thank you!

Summary
Rooting is easy, installing ROM is easy, as long as you do according to the online articles, but keep everything correct is not!
Flash original factory firmware using Odin is very powerful. (It even works when phone can't boot)
I first use Odin to root my galaxy s3, then backup the rom, and then use rom manager to install different roms, however those roms aren't as good as in introduction. And worsemore, when I want to switch back using restore, the restore function goes wrong.
I then did a lot of stupid things, try the functions on recovery and try to move the backup to "right" places, the result is I totally messed up the phone and it can't boot.
Luckily I still can go to the download mode by pressing "volumn down"+"home"+"power" -> "volumn up". I use Android 4.1.1 AT&T Samsung i747 firmware and Odin v3 3.07 to get everything back to normal. (thank goodness I back up the data before I play this game).
All in all, new version Odin + original factory firmware is powerful! :good:

[Q] Galaxy tab gt-p1000; nightlymod 10.1

Hi,
trying to upgrade my p1000 from Froyo 2.2 to Nightlymod 10.1, and I have read numerous threads about this problem, tried 3 methods (Odin, Rom manager, bootloader) to flash the device... Rooted it with Superoneclick 2.3.3, shoved SGT-Bootloader-Patch-v1.00 to patch Bootloader... all the work I found necessary. Still, there are only 4 options in my boot: reboot system now, apply sdcard: update.zip, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition. No Nandroid or backup option. Update doesn't work: E:signature verification failed.
Trying to flash via Rom manager- flash file is visible but the same error appears if I try to read it.
My sd is 32 GB class 10 (Samsung as well, brand new), and my version is P1000XXJMA.
Where did I go wrong with my homework?
tx for any sort of advice

Can't install .zip file from CWM

I am relatively new to the world of rooting and ROMs, but I have successfully installed CM10 on a previous Samsung phone, so I am decently literate.
I am currently attempting to install CM10.1 on my Verizon Galaxy S III (following the instructions on the Install CM for d2vzw page on the CM wiki), but I have reached an impasse at step 7. I was not aware that I had to put the VRALE6.bootloader.zip file on the SD card before starting this process, so I am now attempting to get that file onto my SD card either by sideloading through CWM or by pushing it to the SD card through adb. The issue is that CWM gives me an error (can't mount SD card) and adb doesn't recognize my device (I have tried installing and reinstalling various drivers for the past few hours). I enabled USB Debugging mode before starting the process, but I am only able to get into Download and CWM modes right now (if I don't do the Download Mode or Recovery Mode key combination, I am stuck on the Galaxy S III screen). Am I bricked at this point, or is there a way to get VRALE6.bootloader.zip onto my phone and continue with the ROM process?
It is important to note that I formatted the SD card before starting this process because I wanted enough space to put the Cyanogenmod file on it. However, I think I may have formatted it generically rather than into FAT-32. Could this be the issue?
I am going to pick up a microSD card reader today in order to flash the SD card to FAT-32 and put the CyanogenMod file on it.
I am getting 5 errors upon startup of CWM (E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command, can't mount /cache/recovery/log, etc.). When I try to mount the SD card or external SD card, I get E: Can't mount /sdcard/
Same issue with sd card not mounting.
I'm having somewhat of the same issue. I've tried both Clockwork recovery and TWRP and have the same issue.
Should have mentioned that i still have access to the stock rom and can use my phone just fine.
I some how got Clockwork mod recovery to work using the Rom Manager pro App.
I wish i had been paying better attention to what i was doing but i know i updated CWMrecovery from in rom manager and chose to install my chosen rom with that.
My suggestion is to start over completely. There is a much easier way to do this.
My suggestion is to flash one of the rooted stock ROMs through Odin. There's a thread in android development that has rooted stock. Then when that's done boot up your phone. If it bootloops wipe data. Then use Ez-Unlock 1.2 app to unlock your bootloader. Make sure it's 1.2. Now use GooManager to flash TWRP. You are done! This is probably the easiest way to do this.

I am not familiar with TWRP, so is the process the same for flashing CM (putting CM zip file on sd card and going to install from SD card in TWRP)? Are there any additional steps beyond this?
I am following the directions in the thread linked above to root and install TWRP. So far, I have the rooted stock ROM running fine, but I can't get TWRP to work. I downloaded Goomanager and attempted to get TWRP using the Install Openrecovery Script option. However, it said that it couldn't find a recovery for my device. I also tried to use the adb method, but nothing happened after I put in the commands. I even tried to flash the latest TWRP .tar file from their website using Odin, but it keeps failing. Is there any way to get TWRP on my phone?
EDIT:Whoops, I skipped over the EZ-Unlock step. Now everything works. Thanks for the help, Sandman!

Alright, maybe I'm not quite fixed up yet. I have TWRP installed and I can go between TWRP, download mode, and the normal stock rooted ROM fine. However, I cannot get to the SD Card in TWRP in order to install CM. TWRP gives me the following errors upon booting into recovery:
E: Unable to find parition size for '/boot'
E: Unable to find parition size for '/data'
E: Unable to find parition size for '/recovery'
Updating partition details:
E: Unable to mount '/system'
E: Unable to mount '/cache'
E: Unable to mount '/cache'
E: TWFunc: :Copy_Log - - Can't open destination log
E: Unable to mount '/cache'
Upon trying to go to Install, I am unable to select the external SD card, and an additional error appears when I attempt to touch Micro SD Card (E: Unable to mount '/external_sd').
I guess I could try to sideload the CM zip file through adb, but I would rather fix the SD card for future use. I have been researching and working on the SD card for the better part of today, to no avail. I am pretty sure the issue is in the formatting of the SD card (it appears to be RAW rather than the required FAT32 for CM), but I cannot format the SD card into FAT-32 no matter what I try (both Windows and 3rd party formatting tools). They all say that the SD card is either write-protected (I have already checked the read/write switch on the side of the SD card adapter) and/or the format cannot be completed. I have tried both my old SD card that I have kept for a few phones (an 8GB Samsung microSD card) and a brand new Sandisk 8GB microSD card, both of which will not work.
I am able to transfer files to the SD card with no issue (with both ADB and through dragging/dropping in Windows), but I cannot install from SD in recovery.
Does anyone have a solution to allow me to install CM on my phone?

Do you have another computer to try formatting the sdcard with? And you said that you receive the same errors when trying to reformat the new 8 GB sdcard as with your other sdcard which is formatted to RAW?

I do have access to another computer, but I ran out of time and patience yesterday. I will try it when I get home later today. And yes, both cards are RAW (even the new one) and I can't get either one to format or work in TWRP.
So it appears the the issue with formatting was due to my computer's drivers (even though I installed the latest Samsung USB drivers) and not the SD card. I was able to format the SD card to FAT32 on another computer and put CM and GAPPS onto it. When booted normally into TouchWiz, the phone sees the SD card fine. However, I still get the same "Can't mount external SD card" error as well as the others previously listed when I attempt to install a zip from recovery. I even tried to sideload the ROM from ADB, but it still didn't work.

Which version of CWM and also TWRP are you using?
And the problems keep rolling in. I was able to mount my SD card and get rid of the TWRP errors by installing a modded TWRP 2.6.0.0 from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44277901). However, when I go to install CM (cm-10.1.3-d2vzw.zip), I get the following error:

I did a factory reset before attempting to install this, but I did not format data or do anything else.

Well, that is for the Sprint S3 my friend. We can't interchange recoveries between the different S3 models to flash roms. You may want to ask Kennyglass123 or any of those other guys if they can make a change for the VZW S3 for you to test it out.

Sounds good. I think the problem has been isolated to being something with needing a modded TWRP. I tried using an older, non-modded TWRP (2.5.0.0), which didn't work.

Would you mind trying this soft brick fix? If I'm not mistaken, I believe you're experiencing this same issue--excluding the Sprint TWRP issue you just mentioned. You will need to flash your VZW custom recovery either through GooManager, Rom Manager, or Odin btw.
