There's a post somewhere where you can fix it. I think it was on the Virtuous rom thread. You'll have to flash a zip through recovery.

Help!!!!
Hi guys:
First off I just want to say that I am relatively new to all this. I have successfully rooted my Samsung galaxy S2 in the past (through completely different strategies) and I would really very much appreciated if any of you guys would be able to help me out as I have been trying to root my HTC butterfly for the last 3 hours. And I apologize in advance if the question has been raised before or is nooby, please I am desperate.
I have used a different method than the one instructed on this website in order to root my phone.
These are the steps:
Windows-based PC
HTC Butterfly
Download and install USB drivers on PC. Download HTC USB Driver for Windows
Enable Developer Options on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. How To Enable Developer Options On Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (Optional – Only applicable for Android 4.2 and above)
Enable USB Debugging on your device. How to Enable USB Debugging Mode on Android Device.
Backup your personal data on phone to PC to ensure you keep a copy of your personal data (SMS, MMS, Contacts, Internet Settings, Photos and etc). How to Backup Personal Data On Android Device.
Make sure your phone is charged to 50% to avoid interruption during flashing. How to Check Battery Level On Android Device.
Download
1. All-In-One Toolkit For The HTC Butterfly (Droid_DNA_All-In-One_Kit_v2.1.rar, 22.28MB) – Development Page
Instructions:
Register an account on HTCDEV.
With all the necessary files downloaded, extract Desire_DNA_All-In-One_Kit_v2.1.rar into a folder.
Launch the exe file within the extracted folder.
Connect your phone to the computer via USB cable.
Straight to “Get Token ID” and press “Go“.
A pop-up window will appeared in your computer. Patiently wait until the code complete run.
Right click on the pop-up windows, select “Mark”.
Left click to select the code started from <<<<Identifier Token Start>>>> to <<<<Identifier Token End>>>>. Right click it.
Back to the AIO ToolKit interface, proceed to “Submit Token ID” then “Go“.
A new windows will pop-up. Scroll down the page.
Paste the code under “My Device Identifier Token” and “Submit“
An email will sent to your registered email under HTCDev account.
Download the attached file along with the email.
Copy and paste the downloaded file to data folder within folder extracted in Step 2.
Proceed to “Unlock Bootloader” in AIO Toolkit and “Go“.
In your phone, you will be asked to unlock bootloader. Select Yes to continue.
After the code complete running, your phone will now reboot automatically.
Download CWR and place the downloaded file in the “data” folder of extracted files in step 2.
Your HTC Butterfly has been successfully rooted and with ClockWorkMod Recovery installed.
I have followed the instructions as listed and my phone did reboot and my data was completly wiped clean. However I am not able to do the last step where it tells me to place my ClockWorkMod. I downloaded the file as instructed but I don't think it worked. I installed TitaniumBackUp and RootChecker and both have suggested that my phone has not been rooted.
What should I do now? Should I try using the steps again? I'm afraid that this might "brick" my phone if done repeatedly. Any advice???
Please any help would be immensely appreciated.
Regards,
David

Hello! First of all I just want to say thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate someone out here helping a noob
But I still don't really understand what you're saying... I tried to follow the steps on step 2 and it eventually linked me to download goomanager
. From there I clicked install open script but nothing happens. The phone didn't even reboot. (By step 2 you mean the last step where it tells me to install CWR right?)
And I don't understand what you mean by flash SuperSu and busybox to get rooted. How do I do so? Also how do I know whether my phone has unlocked the bootloader? What did all the steps that I have done achieved on my phone thus far???
I'm really sorry I'm very new at this. But I appreciate your help thus far!!! If you could be able to give me a step by step it would be very much appreciated!!!!!
Thanks again!

Dude, you need to warn people about the "PHONE WIPE" after they did the bootloader unlocked, so people would backup their phones.

Hi,
There are several ways to do this now.
Look HERE
HERE
Or use THIS TOOLKIT
Or THIS ONE
Thank you guy, even if i've already seen these threads.
The fact is my bootloader is locked but i've got the S-OFF.
Unfortunately, i still cannot install a recovery in order to root my Sensation XE.
I should have been more clearly: i just want to root my phone in order to make a backup with titanium backup (i don't want to lose my apps data).
Then, i would install an older RUU to backup my phone and S-OFF with revolutionarry.
So, there is an other way to root my phone (permanent root ain't necessary).
I dont wan't to lose my warrantly with HTC dev unlock either.

Download this: http://tinyurl.com/ICSHboot
Download my tool. It's in my signature. Follow all the instructions from the thread, but don't run any file.
Go to the tools folder inside the main folder of my tool, & paste the jb_hboot.zip file that you downloaded.
From inside the tools folder, run the file boot.bat
Once done, reboot to bootloader.
You should now have *JuopunutBear* instead of *locked*
If you only want root, then just follow all instructions from my tool thread and run the menu.bat as stated in the instructions. Make the appropriate choices & you'll have permanent root.

check my one click ROOTING TOOL present in the guide in my signature ..it just requires SOFF..no recovery needed too..and bootloader status doesn't matter
just connect your phone ..and then double click ..the required file(root.bat)
that's all you are rooted
EDIT:you can even use kgs tool for the same process too
It's getting wierd...
@ganeshp Hi man! I checked your thread yersterday and i didn't see that there was a rooting tool!
Unfortunately, the process worked perfectly ("EVERYTHING DONE..ROOT SUCCESS...ONE FINAL REBOOT NOW") but titanium backup or other apps which required root tell me that I'm not rooted..
I noticed that each time super user refuse root/super user access to these apps, i don't know. And yes i tried to change superuser automatic answer to "allowed" or "ask me".
@kgs1992 Thanks you. I tried it but when i launch boot.bat it tells me "waiting for device" (i tried to plug my phone in HTC sync mode too).
So then i tried to root with your tool and even if it tells me that the process succeed, titanium backup tell me that i'm not rooted.. Same problem as i said to ganeshp.
I'm a little but confuse now

Well if SU installed, then you are rooted.
You need to reboot to bootloader before running boot.bat
Yes, SU is installed but it does'nt grant root access to my applications!
I tried to run boot.bat, the process failed.

Yes, it's ICSboot, not Hboot, sorry.
Anyway, it should have worked. are you sure it didn't?
try opening this zip (attached) & putting this boot.bat in the same folder and running it.

I'm gonna try to root and install recovery now. If i have an other problem i'll make a double-post in order to up the topic. Otherwise i will just edit this one.

I'm more confused than ever on trying to find the *correct* guide to root my TF300T. The development forum has mislabeled threads, and most guides I found were guiding the root process for a device with a 9.x.x.x firmware. So, that said, can anyone point me to the CORRECT guide so I can root my TF running 10.4.2.17 please? Thanks.

So first off I totally understand the apprehension. I have rooted a lot thingd and this tablet seems especially technical and convoluted.
First read through this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697227
1) In that thread download the "unlock bootloader" app, run it and unlock the bootloader. Your device warranty will now be void and it will say "device unlocked" in the top left corner every time you boot it up.
2) Now go to this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845377, scroll down to Part 3 and download the "fastboot + JB recovery" files. Extract them into the Fastboot folder that they are zipped in. There will be two .dll files, an ADB file, a Fastboot file and a twrp.blob file.
3) Turn off your tablet. Once it's off press the power and vol/dwn buttons at the same time. Keep holding them down until you see the screen with "RCK", "android", a usb symbol, and "wipe data". Once in that screen let go and use the Vol/dwn to move the cursor and vol/up to select the USB icon. Plug your tablet into your computer and the computer should recognize it as a "fastboot" device. You can check under "devices and printers".
4) Enter the "Fastboot" folder and while holding down shift, right click the mouse. In the menu you should have the option "open command window here". Select that and it will open a cmd window. Type in the line:
fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery twrp.blob
This will copy the TWRP recovery file to the tablet and flash it. You will see a blue progress bar on your tablet while this is happening. Once that is done type:
fastboot -i 0x0b05 reboot
This will reboot your tablet and you will now have TWRP recovery installed.
5)Once in android again, go to this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668173, and download the "root-signed.zip" file in the second post and copy it to the tablet.
6)Turn off the tablet and boot into recovery by holding power and vol/dwn again. Once at the menu select "RCK" with Vol/up. It will boot into TWRP recovery now. Install the "root-signed.zip" file, reboot and the tablet should be rooted.
At this point I recommend creating a backup in recovery in case anything goes wrong from here on out.
Now you can flash any ROM your heart desires. I recommend CleanROM 2.7. It's fast, clean and very easy to install.
TWRP is easily the best recovery for this tablet. I have had many problems with CWM not installing ROM's properly and causing boot issues.
I hope this help you out. I know it's kind of a mine field of information but it works very nicely.

This is a relatively big deal: while you could root stock ICS ROMs pretty easily, you can't do it on stock JB ROMs without unlocking the bootloader, Once you're unlocked, however, it's a piece of cake.
For the amateurs. Could you elaborate on these steps?
Step (1) (a) which file to download? the .apk for the .exe file?
(b) Download to where (the tablet or onto a laptop/desktop)?
Step (2): (a) Again, download to where? Tablet or laptop/desktop? And extract to where?
Step (3) & (4): This make it sounds like the files in previous steps should be downloaded and extracted to a laptop/desktop?
Step (5) & (6): CleanRom 2.7 is already rooted. Do we need to run these steps? Or can we install CleanRom after Step 4?
Backup: What files to back up? Everything?
Critical Questions:
Do the above steps work for tablets already on Android version 4.1.1 with .29 (or .17) builds?
Sidenote: Last night, my tablets had an ASUS update and it went from build .29 to .17. Is this strange? It's going backward?
I have followed these instructions exactly, but titanium and adaway both cannot aquire root privileges. and reason why?

Have you confirmed that you are truly rooted or are these apps the only ones that can't access the root directory?
So you have to root first in order to do a backup?
No you do not have to root first to do a backup.

I read the reply's to your Q, but as I have the same build as you I still haven't found one that anyone claims has worked.
You have any success?
Root TF300T
Thank you so very much for that very helpful post. Much appreciated.
After reading your instructions, I'm happy to proceed but may I ask one question first.
I've unlocked my TF300 with the ASUS application.
My build number is 10.4.2.18-20121122. It's a UK model.
Am I safe to use your instructions with this build?
Kind regards
I never obtained root, and since my OP, I've gotten an OTA as well, so it's back to square one in finding a viable root method.
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda app-developers app
I'm in the same boat. Got a 300 for Christmas, bumped up to JB w/o reading here first (yeah...that was dumb). So from looking around the only way to root is to unlock and the only way to unlock right now is via the ASUS tool which - from what I've gathered - will send my serial number to ASUS and void my warranty correct?
A few questions:
1.) does anyone know if work is being done to be able to unlock/relock w/o voiding the warranty? I love root, but I won't do it while in warranty in case something unthinkable happens . I'm not sure how much of this would be true, but can't we use nvflash to download the locked bootloader then find a way to spoof the ASUS unlock authorization? Hell, unless each tablet uses a different signature couldn't we just post the nvflash-able locked/unlocked bootloaders? I'm thinking back to the flash processes from my Tegra2 gTablet. I could be way off base, but it seems plausible with my limited knowledge.
2.) is it possible to root w/o unlocking? I know I won't get CWM/TWRP and the ability to load non-stock ROMs but I can live with that. I'd like to be able to run TiB, ES File - Root, etc though. I thought I saw something about obtaining root w/o unlock, but I can't find it and it might have been ICS instructions.
3.) I take it there's no downgrading back to ICS that would fix this either....

Hi!
You can try to unlock your device with AsusUnlock app ! - is the safe way to unlock bootloader ! ( certainly will void your warranty ! )
I don't think that's cause for concern ...I've unlocked bootloader in the very next day after I bought it ( in august this year )
- so far I think I made five hundred " flash and reflash rom " - ( for testing "custom roms" ) - and the device shows like the first day when I bought it
So, be more confident - the device is not so easily to break , you can install as many "custom roms" as you want - you just have to be very careful about the steps that you make - when you try to install a custom rom !
Good luck ! :good:
regards,
Surdu Petru
Not worried so much about flashing causing issues. I've flashed my gTab more times than I can count. More worried about pre-voiding the warranty should I have any hardware issues. Like my battery life seems to be horrible and it might need sent in for that.

Hey
I have HTC desire s, which is pretty old (i'v had about three years now). In recent months it has started to run more and more sluggishly. After I re-downloaded a game that I played when I first got the phone I realized that my phone had experienced some power-loss, as the game that used to run smoothly now lagged. It wasn't so big deal as I do not play games with my phone so often, but now it feels like apps that I use and pretty much need like whatsapp and internet browser are also starting to lag more.
So now I am trying to find some way to restore my phone do the state it was when I first got it.
I have done almost everything that you can do with an un-rooted phone. (Ram,cache,apps...) I also did "factory reset" which actually seemed to help for a while, but soon the problem came back.
I tried also rooting my phone with super-one-click, but even I followed instructions "perfectly" and the app said my phone is rooted it actually wasn't.
I can try it again if it's necessary.
Thank you for Answers and I apologize for being a noob.

The toolkit provides steps to "Unlock bootloader" via HTCdev.com. You need it unlocked to root or flash a custom recovery.
PLS read exactly and keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader will reset your phone to stock. MAKE SURE you safe ALL your PERSONAL DATA before you proceed.

When I press install HTC drivers a mesage pops up saying that it will install them, but after that nothing happens. I looked from youtube that a install wizard should pop up, but nothing happens. So what should I do as I think that those drivers aren't being installed.

You connected your phone in "fastboot" mode?
It toolkit fails (its important that you haven't change the folder name of the toolkit!)
We can do manually --> Go to HTC dev --> http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ select "All other supported models" you also will have to register.
and you need this adb/fastboot http://d-h.st/KIP
My bootloader should now be unlocked

the thing is i don't know if adb/fastboot is working on windows 10
there was connectivity issues even on windows 8/8.1
also AFAIK there are no drivers for windows 10 yet
if you want to make your simcard free for any network S-OFF is mandatory
you must make adb/fastboot to get working
and i think windows 10 is a problem
by the way have you enabled usb debugging mode from settings?

Seens it was advised Windows 10 was incompatible, I now have Windows 7 on my PC so giving it another go,
No doubt I will be posting back cos this process has been the most difficult out of all the phones ive done
So I have to unlock the bootloader, achieve S Off, then run a file to remove the sim lock.
Wish me luck
Hmm, still trying!! No luck
Gone from 1 thing to another, every time I try something I need something else first so now am back like 6 steps
Following this link....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCwEbh_JsI8
Got to the Control Bear.exe part but message saying "Device needed to be HTC unlocked"
So went to here >>>> http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
Which gave me Fastboot.exe, try to run and get error
The program cant start because AdbWinApi.dll is missing, so I google this and I need SDK Tools installing
So I go here >>>>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781386
I downloaded Android Studio which installed Android SDK Manager so thats done,
But seems I do not have C:\android-sdk-windows
So I found I had SDK folder here >>>> C:\Users\Lee\AppData\Local\Android\sdk
So I moved the Android directory to C:\
Can anybody help, this is really annoying me now
I also have the dll file in a folder I downloaded while following the Youtube video
temproot-sensation-windows
This so far has cost me like over 10 hours of messing round, i clearly do not know what I am doing but all I want to do is take the sim lock off this phone!!!!!!

cm-11-20141207-Sultan-pyramid
I have read I need a particular recovery to use this, the one I downloaded was an APK but as am still on stock it hasnt worked
Now I am having major trouble with PG58IMG.zip
I have put onto root of SD card so when I HBOOT it tries to install, but says no IMG file
So I do the fastboot way by copying in the fastboot directory and following the relevant commands, seems to finish OK
But still no recovery,
Now I am seeing ***LOCKED*** at top of my screen???? is this right????
Words fail me how ridiculous this process is just to remove the SIM lock??????
Now I am trying with PG58DIAG in the root of my SD card
This attempts to run but I get a security fail!, Update Fail!
Can someone please help
Thanks

Yes, it is possible. First open the RUU installer. Keep it open and put it aside. Then you press control and r to open up the "Run" dialog box. Type in "%temp%" (without speech marks) and hit enter. A windows should open up with a lot of folders and files. Towards the top will be folders with VERY LONG names of random characters. Check each one for a file called "Rom.zip". Open up the zip and you will find the img files, in this case, HTC's stock recovery.

yeh i'm just gonna wait on updates for kingroot, used it recently on a lenovo tablet and it worked really well. Kingroot is on version 4.1 hopefuly future versions will work with the desire 620. I'm not so much fussed about a custom recovery, i mainly want root to change the sd card permission issue that kitkat has. And also uninstall the amazon bloat ware to make more room on the internal 8GB.

Hello!
I've found a way to get the stock rom on a HTC Desire 620! I found this:
FYI: my Desire 620 had no OS (blank) and TWRP 2.8 (higher versions crashed)
1. Go to: forum.gsmhosting .com/vbb/f485/firmware-needed-htc-desire-620-a-1953187/
2. Scroll to 06-27-2016, 22:54 skynett_md (thanks SkyNett for your files!)
3. Click on 'Here' in the sentence 'Here I made TWRP backups for version 1.02.401.1 and 1.51.401.5, OTA file that phone downloaded is in same google folder with backups.'
4. I downloaded the '1.51.401.5' TWRP recovery files
5. make a recovery in TWRP recovery
6. paste the '2014-12-31--18-00-33_KTU84P_release-keys' dir next to the other subdir in 'TWRP' -> 'BACKUPS' -> {subdirname}
7. Choose 'Restore' and choose the '1.51.401.5' recovery
8. If your Desire 620 is like mine, it will boot to a installed OS in spanish
9. Choose the spanisch 'backup and restore factory default'
10. The phone will boot to TWRP and the reset will be executed
11. The phone will boot to the OS and you can choose your language
12. After the install, I had some issues with the on/off button. This has been solved (software issue)
Succes!
SkyNett: thumbs up 4 u!
