Question about Flash image GUI - HTC One S

I am not the most tech savy person but I've managed to successfully flash a couple ROMs on the One s. So when I heard of flash image GUI, I figured that it would the make the whole process much simpler. My question is to those who have used this app. How reliable is this app?
*I wouldn't mind flashing the boot.img manually but I figured this would make things easier.

May I borrow your thread a bit as this was exactly what I was just about to ask ?
Also, could someone confirm that flash image gui flashing boot.imgs work ok with 2.15 hboot?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app

I've been using this app for some time and it NEVER put me down. I used it for flashing boot.img when changing between ICS SENCE, JB SENCE or any of the AOSP, CM roms. I just browse for Rom.zip I want to flash, select, it will extract boo.img, select flash, wait, select reboot recovery, flash Rom. Always works.
Oh and I'm on hboot 2.15.

Thanks! Will use it next time I flash a rom
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app

Top app and never failed me when I needed to use it.

i use it all the time and i flash new roms as they come out (2-6 a month) and the good thing about flash image gui is that it flashes the wifi stuff also so if your on hboot higher than 1.09 this is a must.

Leedroid has v6.4 on the one S? or the one X?
V2.1 for the One S
Are there any direct links for the one s latest version only tweaks

I dont think the tweaks will work on a stock ROM, They require the modded framework.
;( leedroid always messes up when I try download it to my phone

I am stuck in a boot loop too. Driving me nuts I have been using custom roms for ever.
Btw other custom roms work without issue on my one s except leedroid.

Did you flash the rom in cwm after the first time you flashed the boot.img? If not then that is probably your issue.
For me I flashed boot flash rom in cwm and for good measure flashed the boot again.
I am going to try a new download of the rom I think that could be my issue.
Right ill basically start from as if i was to flash the rom from if i has a stock phone
1.Make sure phone is rooted and unlocked by Htc dev
2.Have a custom recovery flashed
3.Download the v2.0 and v2.1 of the rom and also the boot.img
4.Place v2.0 and v2.1 files into a folder on your sd card.
5.Now make a nandroid backup of your current rom you are using before you flash LeeDroids rom
6.Extract the boot.img so that you can run the command to flash the .img to your phone
7.Boot phone into bootloader then fastboot, connect phone to pc and it should say fastboot usb.
8.Run the boot.img file to which ever OS you are using (meaning windows, mac etc.)
9.Get back into the bootloader screen and get into recovery.
10. Format system, data and cache also wipe dalvik cache as well. It should be wiped by formatting system and data but only takes 2seconds to do it anyway. You will find it under advanced menu(In Clockworkmod)
11. Find the .zip of leedroids v2.0 and flash it
12.Reboot phone and finish the setup menu and just let the phone settle for a minute or two after you finished it
13. Boot phone into bootloader and then fastboot. Run the boot.img again just to be sure.
14.Boot into recovery and flash v2.1 and then reboot and enjoy.
Now set phone up the way you want
This is the method i have used seems long but only takes 10minutes once you have all the files. I have done this 4 times using this method
I will try this method later so what's the v6.4?

Horrible clarifying question

Ok everyone. Horrible question I know but here goes. I want to be right so please excuse a question I am sure has been asked many many times.
Situational info:
HTC one s s4 boot loader 1.06
No regular PC access.
Extensive knowledge and experience rooting and flashing G1 and G2X
Goal: unlock boot loader and open root access to enable flashing of roms via recovery while remaining PC independent
Steps I plan to execute:
1) unlock bootloader on htcdev site
2)grant root access following instructions(or all in one tool - your input here is appreciated)
3)instal CWM
4)download rom and kernel of choice
5) boot into boot loader, enter recovery, wipe, flash, boot
If I have any of this wrong please advise.
Again I apologize for the redundancy of this thread. Mods please delete after my process is verified to keep board clean. I only have one crack at this (PC access extremely limited) and I want to get it right.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
Looks correct. First install HTC drivers & HTC Sync software (in order to unlock bootloader, I believe HTCdev site will instruct this).
I recommend (as well as many others, I believe) TWRP over CWM. ESPECIALLY if you do not have computer access. The 1S does not have S-OFF, which makes it very hard for us to flash kernels & radios. Well, not hard, but you need a PC if using CWM. Using TWRP, you can usually flash these things from your device. So definitely use TWRP for your situation.
You can't root without a PC. It's impossible. You are required to get a token that you can only get from a command prompt on the computer. Sorry, but you're out of luck. But when/if you get a PC the steps you wrote were mostly right
1) Correct
2) FLASH RECOVERY (use TWRP, CWM is not good on this device)
3) Then root by flashing a SuperSU zip in RECOVERY (that's why #2 and #2 are switched)
4) Yep
5) Always always always BACKUP YOUR ROM. Then wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik cache. then flash the ROM. If you have extra time you should fastboot your kernel if your hboot is below 1.13 (meaning 1.13 is NOT able to flash the kernel.)
Hope I helped. If I did press thanks
OP did mention that he will have limited PC access to perform the unlock process, so he will be able to do it initially.
Here's the link for TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677670 (make sure to use this one, the other link in the forums is for the S3 processor)
Ok so I can flash recovery as soon as I unlock boot loader and use twrp check.
The supersu, that's just a zip to flash in recovery to grant root access?
What is fasbooting kernel?
Thanks guys, appreciate the help. Will be performing this within the next two hours. Just trying to be ready so it goes off smooth. Once I get this done I need to do my friend's G2(condition for PC time lol)
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
TWRP is a recovery. You will use that instead of CWM, not in addition to.
If you're going to flash a custom rom then you don't have to worry about rooting first. The rom will be rooted already.
Fastbooting kernel is a method of using a pc + command prompt to flash the kernel on your phone. Because HTC hasn't completely "unlocked" the 1S, we need workarounds like that to do certain things. However. TWRP will allow you to flash most things, including most kernels. If you use TWRP and yout hboot is low (which yours is) you shouldn't have too many issues.
Brief note here, I won't have adb access on this pc....will I be able to flash twrp without adb? I see there is an app in the market for it but seems to require root first. Thanks again for the input
Also, downloaded roms and kernels will need to reside on my SD card. This will become an issue if pre install format/wipe kills my SD card. Please advise. Roms and kernels will need to always be installed from SD card via recovery

You need adb access. That's how you flash recovery, using command prompt on the PC.
Not sure about this app, what's the name of it? To my knowledge you need adb to flash recovery on this phone.
If this isn't possible, you will still be able to root, just not have a custom recovery or flash roms. I don't believe you need to unlock the bootloader to root...not 100% sure but I believe you can root without it, which should be pretty simple.
On twrp website there is an option to install recovery via an app called goomanager. In the app store goo manager states root required. Should I revise my steps to this:
1)unlock bl
2) root using supersu img
3)goomanager install twrp
4)use twrp to flash roms and kernels
I would really love to avoid flashing radios btw. I just feel like it might be safer to let it be. Radios always made me nervous on previous devices
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
You could download goo manager from the play store then install open recovery script from menu..then flash the SuperSU zip. You wouldn't require ADB then.

This is correct. I forgot about goomanager.
As for the radios, there isn't really too much risk on the 1S. I remember it was always a scary issue on the HD2 because of EU vs. US radios, which could cause a brick. On the 1S you can flash EU radios with no prob. Actually, some people report better performance in the US with EU radio. So yeah, don't be worried about it, it's pretty safe on this device - with normal precautions and proper flashing of course.
HOWEVER:
Make sure to only use S4 radios/roms on S4 processor. There is an S3 version of the 1S as well, and you cannot switch any roms/kernels/radios between the two.

Actually flashed most recent cm10 nightly after my go with AOKP. Still no dice. I've posted the issue on both ROM dev forums so hopefully it will get resolved. I feel like it is operator error but I have flashed each ROM twice with a full wipe before each install. I understand the process for flashing so I hope its something small I missed.

Flashing roms

Could someone point out an up to date guide for flashing CleanRom 5.1? I did review the one link in Android Dev here but I keep seeing the warnings about flashing boot.img.
Just looking for solid step by step instructions. I also have Hasoon2000's toolkit. I successfully rooted but I'd like to ensure flashing the same way without doing something dumb.
Thanks and I apologize if I am coming off as lazy. I've done lots of research but just trying to cover all my bases.
Thanks,
Jon

1. Download ROM to sdcard.
2. Flash ROM in twrp.
No mater which hboot your on, cleanrom 5.1 and viperxl will flash boot.img for you
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
just to be safe and make 100% sure it will boot, do this:
1: extract boot.img from the zip and do fastboot flash boot boot.imgjto your phone
2: put the full zip onto your sd card
3: start up in recovery mode
4: select install, and select the cleanrom5.1.zip. Swipe to flash.
5: when it asks you if you want to install the boot.img, select NO (it says if you're unsure, choose YES. do NOT do this if you wanna be 100% sure itll boot the first go around.)
5a: for me, this is where AROMA usually freezes (happens about every other flash of the rom. no big deal, just hold down the power button till your phone shuts down and restart from step 3
6: choose the rest of your customizations
7: once its done flashing, select finish then Reboot Device from TWRP
hope you get it
Ok so with those particular roms I don't have to necessarily flash boot.img since its automatic? I think that's where my confusion is coming from. So I can't simply load it on my phone, go into recovery and flash CleanRom 5.1? Also, if I need to type that command, I can simply open a cmd window or use Hasoon's tool to open a cmd window?
I appreciate your replies and for not bugging out on me! Trying to learn the right way

Even if you've taken the 4.1 ota it will boot just no working touchscreen. Op is doing something wrong. Verify that you have a onexl and are flashing a ROM for the one xl then make sure to wipe cache, dalvik, system and do a factory reset in twrp. If you wipe system and are flashing a ROM for the wrong phone you will brick so make sure you have the right ROM and phone combo. After flashing the ROM boot to fastboot and fastboot flash your boot.IMG. if you do all that your ROM will boot.

So I downloaded the flash GUI program and followed the steps via the video (thanks for that, very helpful) but after flashing the kernel (boot IMG) and hitting the recovery reboot option it didn't reboot, it didn't do anything. So I did a manual reboot into recovery and installed the zips and rebooted. I got to the Rom initiating page (this one had a unicorn) and it didn't go any further. The only other info I could offer is that I went the lazy way and emailed the boot image to myself on my comp and downloaded to my phone via the email. Not sure if that makes a difference. Any more ideas, I'm gonna try the ice cold jelly Rom and the viper xl later today.
So I just tried the viper 3.2 Rom and although it seemed to get a little further in the process, result is the same: stuck on viper logo. Only ice cold jelly left. When transferring zip files over to phone do o have to mount via twrp or can I just mount as disk drive via stock rom? At this point, unrooting and waiting for att's official JB update may be my only option. Thanks in advance for any help.

I know you guys hate this, but I need help.
I have an HTC One S, unlocked. I am in Canada, it's unlocked for Mobilicity, but not sure where it came from originally.
How do I know what exact version phone I have, and how do I go about getting a newer android version on it. 4.2.2 or at least 4.2.
AW: [Q] Complete Help
What do you mean with "version"
Look under settings->phone information or sth like that. Latest official version for the one s is android 4.1.1.
If you mean which model, check how your CPU frequency is, 1,7ghz is the C2/S3, 1,5ghz is the C1/S4.
If you want android 4.2.2 flash a custom recovery and follow the instruction for flashing a custom rom (cm10.1), you will find it in the development section

Aroma installer is a GUI for the installing progress.
Wipe everything twice before flashing the Rom.
Extract the Boot.IMG Form the flash zip.
Flash the Boot.IMG via fastboot ("fastboot flash boot boot.img" there are flashing guides in the forum)
Clear dalvik cache
Flash the rom and everything should work fine
Good luck
