[Q] Should I flash my tablet - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I'm actually runing 4.1.1 on my tablet and I would like to update it to a fresh new customized rom (such as Hydro 7)! As I bought my tablet directly from the store 5 months ago, I'm quite hesitating... What do you suggest me!

Do it!

+1 do it!
You wont be disappointed. Just make sure you do your homework well and you'll be fine :good:
And dont forget to ask questions when you hesitate. Better safe than sorry.
The TF300T is a very friendly and helpful community

Get-R-Done! It's well worth it.

I say yes.
Make sure you read up on what you need to do prior. Plus contingencies on or about recovery methods. The worst you can do, is have no options for recovery.

Clearly yes. I recommend btw BAKED Rom because of it's customization (link in my sig)
everything important (should be step by step) should be written here btw

I am mainly scary about loosing my warranty...I mean if I have a problem in the future, Asus will not repair my tablet :/

You are right!

Before Unlocking my device, I installed the SDK manager (to check if I had all the needed files/programs), but I can't see the settings described in the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2041627
PS: I didn't install any driver

Be aware that you might need to register your tablet on the Asus website before the unlock APK will do it's thing. (might take a couple of days after registering before unlock goes through)

Nobody to explain me why I can't install platform tools??

I dont know about installing developer tools however i will tell you how much better the tablet runs afterinstalling cleanrom 3.3 with unters overclocked kernel. Superfast, no more pop ups saying something fails to respond. I did still experience slight performance issues when downloading a movie torrent but not as bad like before. When i downloaded on the stock asus tf300t the tablet became a paper weight. I am currently trying data2sd with a sandisk micro class 10 on cleanrom but having issues. I cant seem to get it working right. Going to keep trying

There thousands of posts related to flash/root and none of them are accurate...Can')t understand ppl always referring to them now

This thread really does tempt me to install a custom ROM on my tablet but i have around 3 months left of my warranty so don't know if it's worth the risk. Furthermore, i'm scared of being bricked

Rooting to 3.1 Your-New Transformer

Not sure if this should go here or General, Mod feel free to move if you think it should be moved ---
To all, This is what I found when rooting my Xformer--
1st ...I am not a rookie but I wanted the rooting to go without a hitch. So I read most of what was out there and choose what I thought would be best for me as far as the method for rooting.
So, I picked Apache's posting of how to root since I had a 4-24-11 build 3.0.1 I did not have to revert back, just needed to root the device and update
This is the posting:
Where to get the root packages---

2nd I would recommend watching the video by Ayman019
Ayman019--- Root video

This is a great play by play
Finally, I love Supercurio's work it is very bugfree so I downloaded his updated rom 3.1 updated...... etc here:
Supercurio's rooted rom---
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112527
And his repacker if you want to have the tool that did the above ---

I Pushed all the files through SDK/ADB. All went great until I tried to push superuser. At first, it would not recognize, so another xda member mentioned that sometime the remount is not seen, so I tried remounting 1st time, nothing ... the second time it worked
Awesome I am Rooted but ....... nothing could see the superuser, it would not allow anything access to superuser, so I downloaded Busybox and loaded it as well, still nothing.
Then I thought since I have superuser I should have recovery too. So, I proceeded to load Supercurio's rom on the sd card and then, manually went into recovery.....
Flashed the rom in recovery, rebooted....Voila' rooted, 3.1 and Good to go......
The point of this thread is remind people, that not all units react exactly the same, usually in adb everything works pretty much the same, but as you can see, not always.
So, moral of the story, the tools are here in XDA and the devs and other members have written great how to's and provide great advice, I thank All of them for sharing their knowledge.
BTW the Transformer is an AWESOME device and rooted you can really make it operate amazingly ..........

Yes this is the an advantage and unless you are looking to over clock I think the unit works very well with the standard rom.

Overclocking, removing system apps, running slightly modded roms of Honeycomb 3.1, etc... There's no risk since the TF is unbrickable since we have nvflash.
Is there anything I can do if I flashed the wrong blob? I got root ok but CWM did not work. I tried to flash blobV5 but now adb cant write anything to /data. Since I have root could I simply use root explorer and terminal to run these commands?
I'm kind of stuck... I got as for as to issue the ./data/local/gingerbreakBB command...
I didn't receive any permission errors or anything but it's been siting there like it's waiting to finish (looks like it's thinking), one line so far that reads [*] vold: 0000 GOT start: 0x00017368 GOT end: 0x000175e8
But it's literally been sitting there for over 2 hours...
Android Ver 3.0.1
Any ideas? Anyone?
UPDATE: Nevermind... apparently even if your runnin 3.0.1 if it's not the right build you have to downgrade... got it... rooted!
hi all
I have rooted my TF to prime 1.5V. I enjoy it, but I have some problem in android market, I cannot download and install any software directly from android market, does anyone have such problem with android market after rooting and updating?(I use Nflash method, change SKU US to WW!)

At the end, does the unite still get OTA updates? I think there is no CWM involved in this picture, so I am assuming the tab will receive the 3.2 update automatically?

There will always be a reason to root your device, since there will always be something you need to do that the manufacturer doesn't want or think you need.
Ok guys I just got my used never before rooted transformer and I need to know if my current version is able to be rooted! I've searched but with no results to answer all my questions. I'm no noob to rooting or xda so I kind of just need pointed in the right direction. Can some one look at my screen shot and tell me if I can use this thread to root with my current firmware version or what other thread I need to start off with. All help is greatly appreciated!

since when was an issue with jellybean or aokp NOT a development discussion i would hardly ask the question in tf300t accesories now would i? So instead of been unhelpfull why dont you go indulge yourself in the forum rules you clearly havnt read them so maybe you should read section 2.1 2.3 and 2.5 of the forum rules i can outline them to you as follows
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result what is ‘ok’ to say in your part of the world may not be ok in someone else’s part of the world. Please think about who is reading what you write. Keep in mind that what you think of as acceptable use of language may not be acceptable to others. Conversely, while reading member posts, remember that word you find offensive may not be to the writer. Tolerance is a two way street.
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.5 Courtesy towards other Members: Treat new members the way you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instruction when you can and always with respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner.

I have absolutely no freezes on jb my tablet flies literally. you need to have patients read the forum and take things step by step before you complain. Jb isn't the problem . You just need to learn trial and error till you get things going right.

well its a question about downgrading back to ics so i can use aokp type roms if thats not a development discussion regarding using a custom rom which does seem to pretty frequent in this forum but hey maybe its just an illusion but there is no need for rudeness and swearin from a fellow forum member a polite "this is not the correct forum would of sufficed"

Development pertains to roms, not ota and downgrading.
But you're not alone... Most people I know hate the jb ota... Glad I didn't take it and stuck with cm10 instead.

You are mistaken. The only way to revert the bootloader back to ICS is with nvflash, and that does not and will never work with the JB bootloader unless Asus or nVidia release it (which they are not going to).
Check out this post in the official CM10 thread.
I've not had one issue with JB OTA, but my Tf300 was updated straight out the box, nothing at all installed on it.
Its now 2 weeks old and I've now unlocked the bootloader and rooted it, install about 50 apps and its still buttery smooth, with no freezes or reboots.

It seems a factory reset (if your device is old) should help things significantly from what I've read.

Cornerstone multitasking on TF700

Could somebody make it work? It is great feature. Please tell me how to do this. I will understand what you will talk to me, but I do not know how to build and android app, compile etc.
Cornerstone support stopped with ics unfortunately, there have been no updates to their source in like 8 months

That post is from February, and it's for CM9. They never ended up using it to my knowledge, and I haven't seen it on any CM rom I have ran. At this point they'd have to modify Cornerstone's source to get it to work with CM10, their current version, and I don't think they're about to do it. It would appear that it's an abandoned feature.

My Transformer has a bigger screen than my netbook, a dramatically higher resolution, and more apps that don't really justify using the full screen, but is less effective at multitasking.
When I first saw cornerstone, I thought that has to be the future of Android on Tablets. My searches came to the same conclusion as yours, it looks abandoned. That's a shame.

It really is. If you look at their discussion board, they claim they're working on getting jb working, but there hasn't been any changes to their source code in 9 months. That being said, it is open source so I suppose somebody else could try to pick it up. I think I might give it a shot once cm10 is official for us.

hi! just to revive an old thread, I saw that cornerstone was updated with jellybean support as of February, but that was for 4.1 not 4.2. I know that it is far fetched, but is there any way this could be ported over to the tf700 without strenuous effort?

Just the thought of re-installing the apps and setting it back up to the way is now sounds like choir.
Though I did root it using that moto exploit upon updating to 4.2. I wonder if I could use TB to mirror the apps/layout and install a new ROM, then just back it up? Or is the difference between the stock and the ROM to big for the apps to be restored properly?

That I know, was mainly curious if I was to unlock, and install another popular custom ROM(till the development is near completed). That I could back up my apps/data with Titanium B, and just restore them on the new ROM, of whichever I use. :good:

OK, got you, so after unlocked, the first thing you would do before trying out the new rom is make a nandroid backup (using twrp custom recovery) this will ensure that you have a complete backup of your current setup. Second backup all your apps with Titanium. Once upgraded to the new rom, you can use Titanium to restore all your apps, then make another nandroid backup of the new rom. Once done you're home free, now you can flip flop between your old setup and your new rom setup by simply do a restore from your nandroid backup, you will have the exact same setup with your old or new in a few minute.

You are correct but it is possible to lose game progress sometimes, the nandroid backup dont always restore certain game progress.

Would doing the nandroid this way also save your kernel? I'm thinking about doing a nandroid of my current CM10.1 setup where I'm using bryce kernel 3.1, doing a full wipe/factory reset, then flashing bryce's cornerstone, gapps, and bryce kernel 3.2. Then, after I'm all set up in Cornerstone, making a nandroid of that. Would flipping between these two nandroids also restore the kernel I was on for each setup?
Thanks in advance!

is there an updated unlock/root tool? or ...updated version to unlock/root?

I want to unlock/root my tf300t.....I received it Feb 2013- I just "registered" it yesterday (...oooops) perhaps......
I have been all over the internet and youtube to see what it will take to unlock and root. I have found good things, and read bad things (as some to say...the unlocking tool is not working if you are on JB-which I am) and I dont want any "problems"
then I am very not good at the whole abd thing at all- the thing I have noticed is alot of things posted wether videos or written stuff on forums are dated back in 2012....
We have been fortunate out there with gnexu's or droidx's or what have you-allowing us to have a tool that unlocks "a device"..and actually roots aswell....Is there an updated tool out there that these wonderful devs created that will do the same for our beloved tf300t
or to say the least a real easy way from step 1 to finish for me and others...I have unlocked and rooted many devices but I am "hestitant apprehensive but not scared" to unlock and root this-bc I def dont want bloatware and all that crap and roms that will make this tablet superb

OK I understand that I may have sounded like s noob (I'm not I promise) what I really don't understand is extracting files and
placing then here or there ......I have reached the part in trying to root where My tf300t states that it is is fastboot protocol.....I have no idea what to do after that...will the TWRP recovery do the rest....I don't know. Never rooted a tablet. I have rooted many phones though.....

People have already helped. Search a little. Oh what the hell, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30516010
Follow part 3 of that guide. I recommend twrp for recovery.

im not sure i understand your frustration... the above post has a link with everything you need to know.. what else are you missing.
And the reason that no one wants to help you is because your asking questions that have been answered probably 1000 times. search around. there are several newbie friendly guides for unlocking and rooting. no offense but that's where you should go first before posting. you must be willing to search around and READ and chances are you will actually get an answer faster that way.
now i would like to help but first read the link posted above and THEN come back and ask questions and provide a more detailed explanation of your problem please and thank you

Ganggreen777, if you do come back and read this, for future reference, coming in here after you are already in fastboot is a little late to be asking questions if you don't know what you're doing. That's a good way to brick a device. I suggest doing all of you're homework first. Especially with this tablet. The TF300 makes an awfully expensive paperweight. :good:
Hopefully you got it all taken care of and you are now running TWRP with your favorite ROM. This forum has a wealth of knowledge, take advantage of it.
