AT&T APN for media content - Windows Phone 8x by HTC

Hey All,
I bought a Bell (Canada) HTC 8X C625a for use on AT&T and put my sim in, ran connection setup and all was working well. That said, now I've just noticed that when someone sends a text with media, I get a text saying "Get media content now (xKB)". When I touch the link, I get nothing but the same message over and over. I'm assuming AT&T is using a different APN than connection setup installed.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

That was not as easy as I thought... So first I got on chat with AT&T and they started out OK but ended saying they don't support unlocked phones of any kind. Then I went all over the net and found so much conflicting and useless info. Finally, I went to HTC and they've been pretty damn good over the past 4 days or so. I just can't believe that no one has had this problem before. Anyway, here are the instructions if you ever find yourself in this situation;
Start off by going to Settings>Mobile Network(or equivalent by carrier). Tap on add Internet APN. Fill out the APN with "pta" then click the save icon.
Next, click on Add MMS APN. This time, fill out the following information; Anything not below, leave blank.
Access Point Name: pta
WAP Gateway (URL): proxy.mobile.att.net
WAP Gateway port: 80
MMSC address: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Once again, click on the save icon and you're done.
Hope this can help someone else in the same position. :good:
Good luck.

[Q] GPRS Settings for EtiSalat - Afghanistan

Help Needed!
I am currently living in Mazar-E-Sharif (Northern Afghanistan).
I am a current mobile subscriber to EtiSalat. I have activated the GPRS plan and applied the required credit (1000 af) to actually run the service.
I have contacted customer service (888) and the second I mention that I have a HTC G1, they immediately say that they cannot provide support.
Anyways, I told them to activate my GPRS regardless.
Well, 24-hours later, it worked! Like a charm.
About 4-days went by and no problems. Well, as of yesterday, my phone has decided to not even recognize and EDGE network.
So, is there anyone out there that could possibly help me by providing the APN for EtiSalat - Afghanistan?
This is what I got so far:
APN: etisalat.af.wap
Proxy: 10.0.0.172
Port: 80
Thanks in advance.

Need GPRS Settings For ETISALAT Afghanistan
ETISALAT told me to set the APN to etisalat.af.wap
but that so far hasnt worked, does anyone have the full settings? I have a Google Nexus S.
thanks
Dave
Anyone have any luck with this? I'm bought a sim card and am trying to get it to work with my modem, but cannot get the internet portion to work.
Use these settings...
I am in MeS as well.
I unlocked my T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant and these settings worked...but I just got a Galaxy S II from Amazon the other day and of course these settings work for this as well, since it is already unlocked.
Check out this thread on here...these settings work...

Etisalat introduced HSPA+ a few months ago. Truly awesome for this place.
How can it be awesome? The APN settings are keep secret for some reason. I paid for SIM, and data plan. The APN settings they gave me dont work, and their customer service (888) is nothing but a bunch of push 2, push 4 recordings.

Thank you for the reply Szadzik. Still isnt working for me. I have tried the following:
I get the Edge symbol with these settings
APN: etisalat.s.wap
proxy: 10.0.0.172
port: 80
MMS Proxy: 10.0.0.172
Port: 80
MCC: 412
MNC: 50
I dont get anything with:
APN: etisalat.af.web
rest default
Im starting to wonder if my Unlocked Samsung Vibrant can handle the freqs Etisalat uses for Data. I am sending text, and making voice calls no problem.
Etisalat-Afghanistan GPRS/APN
I'm at KAIA using an Etisalat SIM that I purchased Jun 2011. Data worked fine the whole summer using the little (overpriced) Samsung BT3410 I had to buy because my old WM5 finally gave up the ghost. Was back home ~1 yr then came back here last month (with the Samsung for local and HTC7 for other stuff). Seems Etisalat changes the settings on a whim and I had a heck of a time trying to find the right info.
So, as of today (2012-11-04), Szadzik's two line response is correct.
-- Set the "Name" to whatever you want (I usu put the APN name).
-- Set the APN ("Access name" on some devices) to "etisalat.af.web".
-- Clear out all the other settings (e.g., Proxy, DNS, UserName, PWD) and save the profile.
Once I did that (and obligatory reboot), all was good, relatively speaking (the phone itself blows so no great loss if it gets eaten by an MRAP).
@lostwhat83 (and anyone else that pulls the settings directly from the AFG Etisalat site), the information posted on the site is wrong!
--==--==--==
On a similar topic, anyone know how good the Etisalat signal/speed is at RC-SW? Heading there shortly...

AntGut

Any advise on this woould be thankful, texting issue?

Just switched over from the iPhone 3GS. I am not receiving all my text messages.
I am getting 90% of them but my wife and friends sent me several that I never received. Also I am unable to send pics through MMS. I can receive them put can not send them. I bought chompSMS (because I was so use to Bite on the iphone) and was wondering if this has been any problem with some you all. I tried the native message app and same thing. Also I did not change my plan, it was a upgrade. Unlimited data, text and phone services.
Also, I was familiar with changing the ROMS on blackberry's and I jailbreak several iphones but MANNN the language used for rooting droid phones have me clueless. Is there any step by step site that speaks in layman terms for a complete newbie to the droid OS. No clue to what some of these terms mean. As a beginner to the droid OS it is a little over whelming IMO.
task like Flashing, creating a goldcard, custom recovery etc... Every root step process I was able to find assumed you new what a lot of this stuff is. Is there such instructions out there.
Ok flame away, we all have our strong areas, and Droid is not one of mine just yet...

what do you have set up as your APN? Settings/wireless and networks/mobile networks/Access Point names (might be a different location on a stock phone I don't remember) Also your phone may not have been provisioned properly, but check APN first and report back

Well the tech had me re-set my phone and that didnt help. I removed chompSMS and then I was able to send MMS pictures. I loaded up handset and was also able to send MMS pics. So it looks like chomps was the issue. I just email their support for some advise. I bought a copy and I do prefer it over handse sms.
PS
I do have MMS under the ALN name, its just doesn't have the green circle check next to it like the media net does.
I want to thank you for your responses!

ao i thunk i screwed up

i rooted the captivate and used superuser and root uninstaller to uninstall kobo app from my rogers captivate.
since it is the first time i used it i didnt know how to and screwed up. i pressed something and it went on to a screen which i never seen before obviously, that said a name of an app. and under grant acces, backup apk and uninstall.
i tried pressing the back button it didn't do nothing, i pressed grant access and it said access granted. then i pressed uninstall. only to realize to late that i should have pressed backup apk! DOH! big time!
the only thing i saw just before it erased is that it said something like preconfig.
and now not sure if i uninstalled something needed by the phone.
later checked the phone and all seemed to work well.
today i started getting calls going direct to voice mail till i restarted the phone, and also had sending failed when sending texts.
the only other thing i did was add a data plan today 2 days later and that is truthfully when the problems started, but i do not see how that can affect.
i did have to input a new apn for it.
please tell me if i am wrong and either data addition or new apn could somehow cause this. and if i did unistall something needed, how do i get it back now?!
thansk in advance for any assistance with this issue.
I would double check the apn settings you changed
CM7
Before anyone can help you, we need more info. Are you running 2.1 or upgraded 2.2? I am assuming 2.2 because Aldiko is the reader with 2.1, Kobo is in the 2.2 version.
Are calls still going to voicemail? You said they did until you restarted, are you now able to receive voice calls?
Outgoing texts: still unable to send? Or was that resolved with the restart? What about incoming texts?

First of all sorry! i am very new to Xda and after posting went to look for my thread but couldn't find it!
Thanks for helping last night and tonight.
it was neither at the end! i added data as i said and put in the info. and started using it. the issue was the 3G. it seems to be very sporadic. it is actually a Rogers captivate unlocked to use on Fido with lagfix v2+ running Froyo.
after a little while i remembered how my friend with an SE x8 had an issue with rf till idisabled 3G, and my other fried had same issue with Iphon 3GS. so i disabled 3G and voila! i guess i will turn on 3G only when i need it.
i thought by now 3G would be implemented good enough for this not to happen any more..
WEll thanks again to everybody here and sorry for not giving enough info.

[Q] Nexus S and Softbank (Japan): How to get it working?

Hey guys,
I seriously need your help. I can't receive MMS (S!Mail) with my Nexus S and the japanese carrier Softbank, no matter what I try. Last year the same problem with my old Motorola Milestone.
Android 2.3.5, CM ROM #167 nightly
Baseband: I9023XXKD1
In 2009, I bought a silver USIM Prepaid from Softbank (still valid) with a Softbank 822p phone.
Until now I tried the smile.world and openmms APN, different Apps (Handcent SMS, Go SMS Pro, Softbank Mail), but I can only receive notifications. It shows a download button, but if I hit that, I get the instant error "download not possible. Please try again later". Wifi turned off.
This didn't help as well:
http://ryufly.wordpress.com/2011/07...end-receive-mms-after-upgrading-to-cm7-1-rc1/
If anybody can help, that would be great! Every little hint is appreciated.
does the softbank mail app not work?
found this:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...arp-Android-phones-with-Softbank-(Go-SMS-Pro)
Using another SMS/MMS app on Sharp Android phones with Softbank (Go SMS Pro)
First download the following apps:
Go SMS Pro
Go SMS Emoji Plugin
Under Receive Settings, check the Disable other message notification checkbox. This means SMS will only be received in Go SMS but unfortunately it cannot stop the MMS from being received by the stock app (more on that later)
In MMS Settings:
Check the Fill user agent manually checkbox (under User Agent)
Change the user agent to this:
Vodafone/1.0/V802SE/SEJ002 Browser/VF-NetFront/3.3 Profile/MIDP2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
(Cant make any mistakes, so best to copy/paste)
Under APN Configuration, select Custom Access Point
MMSC: http://mms
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port: 8080
Under Important Tips, select the checkbox saying Stock messaging app uninstalled
If you dont select this then Go SMS wont download MMS at all. In that case Go SMS can be used for SMS only (i.e. other Softbank only) - MMS would go to the stock Softbank app.
In my case i hated how the Softbank app chews up 100% of the CPU for about 30 seconds as it tries to download an MMS. When you are playing a game it really makes you hate the sender for screwing up your gameplay!
Lastly go into the Softbank mail application
Settings → S!Mail Settings → Receive/Display Settings → Mail receive method → Change to Sender/Subject only. Then under notification settings, turn off the lamp, turn off vibration, change the notification sound to be something quiet like "Facebook Pop"
After all of that, when you get an email you will get a double notification - one from Go SMS and one from Softbank. Thats unavoidable unless you uninstall the Softbank app. But only Go SMS will get the full MMS, and you can keep ignoring the Softbank mail notifications
Seems to be working good for me so far. I love being able to type and reply to messages without the annoying "sending" screen. And being able to see new messages as they appear instead of having to get out of the message being edited, to see the new messages

i can confirm it works on my DHD
The key is not only getting the right apns but also getting that user agent string in your mms app.
Cyanogen mod can do it, or go sms pro too if you don't want to run cm.
@SQ3.0dotJP
Not even the Softbank Mail App works, giving me the same error message as other apps. The solution you quoted wont work as well.
Regarding error messages: the only thing I can achieve is that either I get an instant error message (cant download...) or a timout error message (trying to download...after some time: cant download).
I think it's a minor detail, but I cant figure it out.
@patrixl
How to configure the User Agent with CyanogenMod? The only option I know is within message apps like Go SMS Pro and Handcent SMS.

Never heard of it and won't finde informations about it with google. Could you elaborate on it a bit?
Hi guys,
I've spent the entire day trying to get this to work.
Just FYI, I have a Nexus S, rooted, Cyanogen mod 7 and just got a prepaid sim from softbank.
I've followed the instructions given here to the letter. Go SMS Pro is certainly a better app than the Softbank crap.
I can received messages, as in I caan see the title, but when I click them it says "Currently Unable to Download. Please Try Again Later". The same thing happens in the softbank app or another mms.apk I got where you could change the User Agent from a list. I also cannot send any messages, it just sits there with the little circle going around and around.
I've tried both the APNs that came with the Sim (Softbank(open) and Softbank(smile.world)) with no luck at all. I also downloaded the App the guy in the quoted post suggested, but it fails with any APN or web proxy combination.
I've also looked at other APNs online and tried a whole bunch.
I don't understand what setting is wrong. I've literally spent about 8 hours on this now, and I think I may be going a little crazy.
ANY help with this will be rewarded with knowing you have made my year (or at least my month).
Thanks very very much,
N.
SOLVED! Nexus S on Softbank Prepaid!
:clapping:
Hopefully this will help others who troll online trying to get their Android (perhaps a Nexus S) to work with Prepaid Softbank.
For the fix, I did the following. Note, one or two parts MAY be unneccesary, I'll test it all later. A quick note, I initially installed the Softbank Mail app from the Market, but since I'm rooted I just uninstalled it after it was all working and it still works GREAT! So you DON'T NEED to use that app. Just FYI.
Download the following:
Go SMS Pro
Go SMS Emoji (if you like Emoji)
Softbank Mail (Get rid of this if you are rooted)
Follow the instructions as stated by Tokyo_Dom, repeated here:
Go SMS
Softbank Mail
Settings → S!Mail Settings → Receive/Display Settings → Mail receive method → Change to Sender/Subject only. Then under notification settings, turn off the lamp, turn off vibration, change the notification sound to be something quiet like "Facebook Pop"
APN Settings
On your Android, go to "Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks". Make sure only "Date enabled" is checked, you don't need national or international roaming.
Then click "Access Point Names". Here I deleted EVERYTHING so it wouldn't get confused. I don't want 3G internet, as on Prepaid it is crazy expensive.
Add a new APN with the following details:
Name: Mail Web Service (This can be anything you want)
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy: sbwapproxy.softbank.ne.jp
Port: 8080
Username:softbank
Password:qceffknarlurqgbl
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: http://mms/ (< This is "http : // mms /" without the spaces if the forum removes urls)
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port:8080
MCC:440
MNC:20
Authentication: PAP
APN type: mms
Save this. Now, at this point you SMail/MMS MIGHT be working. If it is, congrats and please let me know. If it isn't there are a few further steps that should get you there. I've found these on different forums, so appologies if I don't give credit where due. I think I found them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21545288
PPP File
There MAY be a file on your phone at : / system / etc / ppp / peers / pppd-Ril.options.
There wasn't on mine, but I created one anyway (oh yeah, probably need to be rooted for this). It contains two lines for the Username and password, which you must change to correspond to the same username and password in your APN settings. Otherwise, it never seems to use the right one, and therefore your MMS or data will not work. You'll need to root your phone and figure out how to edit or copy an edited file onto your phone. So, change those two lines to look like this:
user softbank
password qceffknarlurqgbl
Give it a try and see if it all works.
Data On/Off
For some reason, whenever I first turn on the phone, the messaging only receives a header for each message, but refuses to download the actual message body. Even if I click 'download' on the message in the message app, it will not work, and will give me an error.
For the solution, everytime you start up your android, go to "Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks". UNCHECK "Date enabled", then reCHECK "Date enabled".
It was specifically after this fix that my messages started to be downloaded. It may have been this alone, but I already did the other bits. I might investigate more later, but I don't want to stop a good thing ATM.
SOME OTHER TIPS AND TRICKS
1) Make sure the APN is set to "mms".
I also found that it would work with the APN type set to blank instead of 'mms' in my APN settings. HOWEVER, with it set to blank, it was CONSTANTLY, I mean non-stop, using my 3G connection (as indicated in the status bar). It was trying to connect to the internet I presume. My Softbank prepaid service includes messaging but not internet service, nor do I have the APN for internet in my settings. But, without specifying my mms APN as 'mms' type, it trys to use that APN for internet as well. Anyway, that drained my battery very quickly! Set it to 'mms' so your 3G radio isn't working overtime to no benefit.
2) Alternate APNS that MIGHT work
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username:softbank
Password:qceffknarlurqgbl
Server:leave blank
MMSC:http://mms/
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp

APN type: mms
Name: Open Softbank

The major difference is MMSC and MMSC Proxy. On my phone I leave the „MMS proxy“ field blank, and the proxy address from this article (sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp) into the MMSC field.

Sorry for MegaPost, just wanted to put this togeather for others to make it easy. It's about 24 hours work to finally get it sorted.
Thanks for clarifying things! I should have no problems now.
hey travisler just wondering - is your Nexus s a cdma version? I've been trying to get prepaid s-mail to work on my samsung captivate and it hasn't really been working. I'm just wondering if it's a hardware issue like whether the captivate just can't connect to softbank's mms network
Hey tanjierong,
My phone is from Korea so is GSM I'm pretty sure.
It is all still working fine, if you can connect to softbank (ie. you can make a call or recieve) then this hack should work for you. It has worked for a few other friends here too now with random android phones.
Hope you get it sorted.
Thanks
Omg travisler... I've been cracking my head since one month in Japan. Using Xperia s and I just can't get the app working. Tried several methods like pushing through mms.apk file using adb still doesn't works. Until I came across your post, works like a charm dude. Thanks a lot. Now I don't have to carry two phones at once :fingers-crossed:
Great bit of info you have provided here travisler.
I have put my Softbank 'dumbphone' (708sc) grey SIM into my Motorola Milestone, Cyanogenmod 7 phone. I want to use it like a 'dumbphone' that can use wifi so I have no need for a 'smartphone' data plan. It works as a telephone and I am in the process of getting 'text messaging' working. I have been reading quite a bit online and there is much information about getting MMS to work.
When one enables data as the APN guide instructs, this will only apply to MMS and not accidentally lead to huge bills for someone without a smart-phone data plan will it?
I followed the 'GO SMS' guide but not the 'APN Settings' guide and I ignored 'Softbank Mail', then rebooted. I get a new MMS sender and title notification in GO MMS Pro but when I try to download the full message I get the warning "please check that the network is available".
So I followed the instructions in the 'APN Settings' guide. There were already a couple of Softbank APNs there, they had a radio button beside them but my new one didn't. After a reboot there was a new icon (3G?) in the notification bar and I could download MMS but the first SB APN was still checked - I suppose the phone was using that SB APN and not the custom one. I removed both the original 2 SB APNs and rebooted and now I am back to receiving the warning "please check that the network is available" when I try to download MMS.
My MMS address is ****@q.vodafone.ne.jp as I already had a Vodafone subscription when Softbank took over and I cannot change the address to ****@softbank.ne.jp, would this require a tweak on the MMS settings I inputted?
Or perhaps my SIM card is the issue. It is not a 'pre-paid' SIM but one from my contracted 'dumb-phone'.
I'd appreciate some help please.
Thank you very much!
This worked for me with the white prepaid SIM.
I did all the steps you listed and used the first APN settings that you recommended, except that I had to set the APN type to "default, mms".
If I only enter "mms", I would sometimes get the 3G icon, but I could not download the messages.
I tried this and still no go. I have a sh203 sharp from softbank. I added the apn but i cannot edit the stock apn since i cannot find a way to root my phone.
When i chose the apn i created i loose my internet data..

[Q] Slower network speeds on CM11? (AT&T)

I'm not sure which version of CM11 this began in or if it's even the cause but this is the only real major change I have on the phone. It was working fine before, but lately I've noticed LTE slowdowns to speeds like 60K and 130K. I used to get around 30Mbit and apps would just download so fast and I'd have no issues streaming YouTube videos. Before I waste my time contacting AT&T dealing with tier 1 support who knows less than I do about my phone I wanted to check with XDA.
I'm using AT&T GoPhone as my provider. Specifically the plan called "$45 monthly available at Walmart" https://www.paygonline.com/websc/rateplans.html (Note, you don't have to go to Walmart at all for this, I changed over to this plan form the $60 one when I noticed they added it to the list.)

IS there anything I can do to fix this issue, or troubleshoot it further or do I need to just contact AT&T?

first things first.. do you find out if it was your provider? if not, call your provider.

right.
first thing you need to do is contact your provider. whats the point of doing troubleshooting if the issue is with your provider. if its not the provider, we will go on.

Alright will do
also, you can try these lines.. they need to be added to your /system/build.prop/, saved and then rebooted for them to take affect.

I called and told them that the speeds are slow for downloading and streaming and they asked if I'd like to "add more megabytes to my phone". She was stuttering like crazy and having trouble completing her sentences. She was clearly reading from a guide and took long pauses between all her questions. This is why I hate speaking with providers .
She asked when it started happening and I said this month. Then she asked if it's also slow when I access websites on my phone. I explained that it isn't visually slow but that it wouldn't make sense for a mobile website to load slow. Then she asked how long it's been happening, "2 weeks?" I explained about the entire month. She asked if I have an LG phone then I said yes. She asked how many apps or games I download per day, I said less than one and she asked "how long will it took you to complete those downloads?". I explained it depends on file size. She said "it also depends on the details that say that certain application [unclear] megabyte [unclear] megabyte so it will be easier to do that. Mhm, there. so is there any error message any time you try to download applications?" I said no.
She asked for my zip code to check the outage in my area. She said thanks for letting them know I'm concerned with "my issues" and that they are "reporting a case here" and "providing information to their support". They added 50MB of data allowance to my phone plan. She kept going back and forth between adding $10 credit and adding 50MB of data, then she said 500MB of data for $10. Then she started calling it "megabits". I checked, they added 500MB.
She transferred me to tech support and I explained the situation. She asked me if the problem is that the speed is slow and when did this start happening, despite arleady providing this information. It's like they have some kind of form to fill out and they don't listen and just select things from dropdown boxes or something. After confirming my account she also asked if I'm on the $45 monthly plan, shouldn't they already know this? What a waste of time.. She asked what type of phone I have next then asked if it's AT&T branded. Then she read off the APN settings I should use (lol she said forward-slash forward-slash). She said APN type should be "default, mms, supl, hipri". She called Bearer "barrier" and I asked about APN roaming protocol and MVNO type and she said they don't have that. After changing the APN type the speeds were still slow.
She said she's going to refresh their connection with my phone and asked me to power it off, then a moment later to power it on. It was still slow so she asked for my city, state, and ZIP code. She said the towers in my area are definitely not the problem. By this time I noticed that the APN settings reverted, and I found there's an option I have to select to save the APN after changing it so I went and added that again, and informed her. Did another power cycle. No change. She asked if I recently downloaded keyboard or messenger apps and if there's any liquid or physical damage and how old my SIM card is. Next I was asked how often I update the software on the phone.
She said she's creating a case and the NOC will take care of it. She said she's going to credit my account and understands the frustration. She asked for the Android version and about what date I remember it last working properly. That was a 57 minute phone call that resolved nothing But I did it!
Let's get started?
EDIT: Saw you replied while I was on the phone, going to try that out now.
try adding those lines i posted to your build.prop, save, then reboot. let me know if theres a difference.

we can check if its cm.. make a nandroid backup in your recovery, then fully wipe and flash a stock or aosp rom. if the data speeds improve, then its cm. you can always restore your backup to get back to where you were in cm.
I know this is unrelated to your plan or helpful but reading that att has been accused of throttling back users download speeds for more expensive data plans
www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/28/att-slowing-speeds-data-throttling-ftc_n_6062360.html
As above you should try another rom/stock and see if speeds improve.
Interesting, the date makes this throttling idea very plausible. I made a backup, but before I got around to flashing any ROMs I took a nap and when I woke up I noticed I had no signal at all. Not 0/4 bars no signal, but no signal as in can't connect to the network. I tried toggling the connection and got nothing. I tried toggling airplane mode next, and still nothing. I reboot the phone and had signal again. I decided to do a speed test and the speeds are back to normal now.
(As I typed this I was watching that news video and that doesn't apply to me necessarily because it's contract-based. They were talking about "Unlimited Data" plans. I had the plan that allowed me 2GB per month (later 2.5GB) then switched to the 1GB allowance plan a couple months ago.)
Anyways here we go:
