Hi
I am trying to unlock my hboot following the instruction on htcdev but when i try to get the identifier token it gets stuck saying waiting for device even tho my device says fastboot usb and i have tried various different thing but nothing help.
does anyone know if having previously updated my hboot when installing ice cream sandwich on my desire s or the fact that i am using a windows 8 pc going to be causing this issue.
my hboot screen reads
******* locked ******
saga pvt ship s-on rl
hboot - 2.02.0002
radio - 3831.19.00.110
emmc boot
Thanks

anyway I don't think you can unlock a ICS bootloader. you have to downgrade your Bootloader

Afteer upgrading to stock ics 4.0.4 - with ruu from htc site,
, i think i used that same unlock token by which i unlocked previous 2.3.5 version,,,
, so it is possible,,,used to that windows xp machine- i cannot tell you anything
, about windows 8 though

I always check that my PC can talk to my phone first by running adb devices or fastboot devices, as appropriate.
My guess is that you need to update your drivers for Windows 8.
Search for Windows 8 drivers in the main Android Development thread of XDA.
Sent from my HTC Desire S

It looks like a problem with htc drivers, maybe there's a problem with windows 8.
Reinstall the drivers and update SDK, it doesn't help try on a different computer.

Click the link in my sig, on post 2 there is a link to a set of instructions for installing the drivers on Win8.

[Q] Desire S crash during official OTA update

Hi
it is the second time that an official OTA ROM update of HTC crash during installation. Result : the phone is dead and has to be sent to service center
I would prefer install a new ROM on it. But how can I go for it knowing that my phone is not rooted yet and that I have no operational ROM... I can still go to the bootloader.
Small point, as a true Android fan, I am on linux or mac, no more windows pc at home
thanks a lot if anybody can give me a hand

A simple way : unlock via HTCdev.
But be aware that htcdev method gets your phone info and that it is a single-way method. You have no chance locking the phone again so that htc will never see you unlocked your phone. They will definitely know it. So, practically, you will lose your warranty.
It can be done via fastboot. Follow instructions on the website www.htcdev.com

[Q] Semi bricked Desire S HBOOT 2.00.000

I've semi bricked my Phone, boo hoo. Please help I I'm hoping it is possable to fix.
Stuatus is:
*** LOCKED ***
S-ON
HBOOT 2.00.000
Freezes at the HTC logo when trying to boot.
I reached this situation by installing RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.9_Radio_20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_234765_signed.exe but I did neglect to switch the fastboot option off. Thoug I don't believe this is the issue.
I've tried using an old Vodafone ROM buy downloading a Vodafone RUU, extraxting the rom.zip and copying it to the SD card and renaming it PG88IMG.zip. The Andriod loader picked it up but complained it was an older version than installed software.
Please help. I've looking at pages on XDA and other sites for hours and hours and have got nothing to show for my efforts.
I'm thinking I either need to be able to:
1. Unlock (S off) the phone withough it being bootable, it this possable?
2. Or, find an very recent Vodafhone stock ROM that is compatable with hboot 2.00.002
Though I there may be other way of resolving this.
Many thank
Ivan
Things have moved on (a little).
Using the HTC book unlocker I now have:
*** UNLOCKED ***
S-ON
HBOOT - 2.00.0002
It still won't boot though :0(

[Q] My phone is bricked (or what ever)

Hi
Before starting I want you to know that I have been through 5-10 threads regarding the subject problem and still not know what to do. I am basically a layman to Flashing. The most adventurous thing I have done is downgrading a Sony Xperia Arc S from ICS to Gingerbread using a simple sofware sort of thing called "flashtool" and downloading ......... (i am leaving it blank cuz at the moment I am quite confused. Lets call it its original firmware)
And before I can explain the problem I am confused between the following terms: RECOVERY, ROM, KERNEL and RUU. Kernel i know is a software layer between H/w and OS. But then why we need to flash it seperately???? it should be a part of OS: which i think is called a ROM. RUU is the update to a recovery. but what exactly is the difference between ROM and RECOVERY. both seem to be like some sort of an image file that contains complete OS. Then there are bloody BOOTs that you have to unlock and keep lock at some times. God knows why
Now coming to the problem:
My HTC One X (bought here in Pakistan and should be containing the international firmware, i dont know for sure)
One fine morning a few days ago my phone showed up the update HTC released recently which changes the appearance of the GUI. I was quite happy to see it and immediately selected the option to install the update. The update ran and installed successfully. I used the new GUI for 2 days or so and then suddenly my phone got stoned (or brick or stuck). It turned off when i tried to use it and then started showing

So I am screwed really badly. The USB debugging mode that i know is essential to install a firmware is not enabled. and my device is not rooted. The device is not charging up properly.
I have downloaded Hansoon all in one toolkit (which seems to be of no use since debugging mode is not enabled). I have android SKD downloaded in my pc. so is HTC Sync. But dont have any idea where to begin.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY I WANT TO SAVE THE DATA INSIDE THE PHONE THAT I CANT ACCESS.
..... i am trying to root the device using hansoon. but for that i need to generate some sort of a code. Now my device is showing up one option named barcode where i can see MB SN and IMEI of the device. is it possible to generate that code using these three???
I think I have posted it in the wrong forum. mods please delete it. I am starting a new thread in the right forum
Your phone is HTC one X Endeavour ......this forum for HTC one X Evita.....please check HTC one X forum ....we can't really help u that much ... BTW u go to www.htcdev.com to generate unlock_code.bin and follow instruction from there coz right now your bootloader show ****security warning****

[Q] Help with Stock O2 UK RUU

Using a Windows XP SP3 machine for running android SDK etc.
Hello!!
I have recently moved providers and wanted to install a non-O2 HTC 4.0.3 on my device.
I have no experience of rooting or anything beyond installing .apks not sourced from Google Play.
I went about reading through a ton of tutorials and learned that I needed to unlock my Bootloader, root/SU the device, make S-OFF, flash the recovery, and then I would be in a position to put another non-O2 ROM on.
I found this thread and as it seemed to be related to a respected XDA member, decided to follow it
http://www.flow-wolf.net/2012/09/how-to-root-your-htc-sensation-xe-4g.html
and got the bootloader unlocked.
After getting SU/Root (a prerequisite for using the Wire Trick) via this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632553
I began to work my way through http://www.flow-wolf.net/2012/09/how-to-s-off-htc-sensation-xe-4g.html to get S-OFF. However when running ControlBear.exe in ControlBearRelease_pyramid_ICS_WIN, I was getting a "unable to create secondary backup" error, or something very similar. Google led me to http://unlimited.io/jbtroubleshooting.htm "This is often caused by a Custom ROM or having HTC Sync installed on your PC."
So I uninstalled HTC Sync, went through the process again but the error persisted.
So I do not have a custom ROM installed as far as I know, but maybe the term "custom" refers to anything that is a modification of the installation that the device was shipped with. I honestly can't remember which Android version the phone was running when I got it.
My question is, it is worth me trying to roll back to whichever version was probably shipped with the device? If it is, where would I find exactly what I'm looking for? I read through this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672425 but can't find any downloadable RUUs that have a CID of 001 in, and as I said, I'm not sure which version I would need to look for.
No one will die if I have to keep the O2 software on the phone, but as a last resort I am posting here in the hope that someone will point out the obvious/call me an ignorant n00b etc. but ultimately point me in the right direction
Thank you!
if you just want to flash custom rom then you can do it without S-OFF
see this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
note: by the way for the controlbear.exe use usb 2.0 ports not 3.0(it is more preferable the back one)
install htc drivers
uninstall htc sync as you said
enable usb debugging mode from settings
also you have the original stock rom(since you are on S-ON(i assume also LOCKED)

HTC One S Bell re-flash to stock

Hi Everyone. i have a modified htc one S and i'm not sure what i did to it in the past tbh. but i think my original mods were kinda sloppy. twrp doesnt seem to work right, among other things. I'm looking to revert the whole thing to stock, so i can begin modding from there. in the end i hoped to install an android 5.0 rom as i intend to give this old phone to a friend. i had downloaded Candy5.
here's some info on my phone currently. can anyone advise me as to how i can revert to stock? it's a Bell locked phone, by the way (Canada)

edit:
a couple things i discovered trying to get 5.0 roms installed via TWRP, as well as stock OTA updates
-cannot interact with onboard storage in TWRP. therefore, when i move files to the device in windows, they cant be used to flash the new ROM within TWRP. (though the "backup" section seems to read proper file sizes within the data section so it seems it does see it...)
- When flashing the zip via USB OTG & flash drive, i get the errors shown in the screenshots.
-i cant use fastboot commands from the bootloader, as it is not recognized because windows tells me the device malfunctioned, and device manager says "This device cannot start. (Code 10) A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed."....this happens regardless of driver, whether it be the HTC driver, standard android driver or no driver at all.
edit #2: found a registry fix for windows 8.1 and htc devices which allowed fastboot use, opening up the ability to unlock the bootloader and then flash items again. problem solved. sorry for the wasted soace
Problem solved so thread closed at OP's request.
