[Q] Poorly Calibrated Keyboard - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I can't figure our why but lately the samsung keyboard is completely off. I sometimes can't even backspace because it keeps hitting the "L" button that's located above it. Anyone having this problem or have any solutions? it's driving me nuts.

reboot?
try another, then go back to your keyboard of choice and see if it fixes it.
find keyboard in apps and clear cache/data
pull battery
just some things id try.

Most people seem to dislike the Samsung keyboard. I agree. Swiftkey or the 4.2 keyboard are much much better

[Q] Keyboard key problems

Okay, so shortly after flashing CM7, every five minutes or so a key on my (Gingerbread) keyboard stops working. After trying some things (like pushing a little harder, clicking other things) it works again. But then it happens to another key! I think I read one thread somewhere on the internet with some people saying using a different fixes the problem.. But I don't think it does :/ And I can't find any other threads about this problem. I can't even find that one again! Has anyone else been experiencing issues like this? Is this a problem with the ROM maybe? Things worked fine on all of my other ROMs, and the stock ROM. I'm really worried, and I hope this isn't a permanent issue. Sending my device back to get replaced would be really screwy for my schedules. I'm using an Inspire 4G btw, if that matters to any of you.
Anyone? Any tips? I can't tell if it really is a hardware issue or software

I have this issue with my stock inspire along with several others. Every now and then a key gets stuck and will not respond. I have to re-boot my phone. Right now I am using swype and so for it has not locked up any keys as of yet for about a week. It was happening to me approx once every 7 to 10 days. No fix that I know of. Hope they correct this issue with 2.3
I second the Swype keyboard - can't live without it!
:side note:
I'm using the latest version (I think) and the only issue that I've had is when I reboot the phone, sometimes the keyboard will work but the swiping feature will not (blue border flashes around the keyboard instead of posting the word I spelled). The fix is easy - go to Language and Keyboard, uncheck the box for Swype, run the Swype installer, click Enable swype, select it as the keyboard when the installer pops up the box for Input Type, and you're good to go (if it ever happens).

HELP. Keyboard won't type.

I have the Infused ROM 1.5.3, and every so often I'll go to type something, and no letters will show up in the text box! The keyboard thinks it's typing, and even the predictions show up sometimes. However, no text is ever typed into the text box. Sometimes restarting my launcher fixes it, but lately I've had to resort to restarting the phone. So frustrating. This happened on Infused 1.5.0 too, but it seemed to go away. Now all the sudden after upgrading to 1.5.3 it's happening a lot. Any suggestions? Does anyone else have this problem?

this might sound weird but i swear the only problems i have with my phone are when im connected to our microcell. texts failing, keyboard not working, widgets not responding, calls not calling until 7 minutes after i hit "call."
Not sure what causes it or what to do to fix it but I have had the same problem on Refuse 1.6 and 1.7 mainly when using Andchat (irc client) have encountered it less in yaaic but have never experienced it in other areas of typing (messaging, browsers and such)
Sorry not of help but its not just u.
I've had the same problem, with no ROM on my phone at all, rooted stock. However when it happens to me i can just hit back until im at the home screen and then open the text message app up again. It always works when i do this. What keyboard are u using? ive got the "Android 2.3 Keyboard."
i have that keyboard, too. and the samsung and swiftkey. none of them work. what's even more bizarre is that it seems as though when i'm connected to wifi AND the microcell, i can't send texts or make calls and that's when my phone freaks out and the keyboards don't work. i turned off my wifi today and my texts finally sent and i haven't had an issue since.
Yeah had the same problem. All I did was just closed my text and reopened it. Kept doing it until it worked again.

Same problem
I've had the same problem since I got my phone, I've been searching for almost two years on how to fix this problem, usually people don't believe me when I post on this. It seems to get worse the longer I use it and eventually it gets so bad I have to reflash my phone. I'm pretty sure its an app that I use, which would explain why I don't see it at first as I don't backup my apps, just redownload them when I need them. Is there an easy way to get a list of apps from your phone that we could post and cross reference? It doesn't matter which keyboard I'm using. It seems to happen mostly with the default SMS messanger, though it might just be that I use it the most and thats when I notice it, it does happen occasionally with other text fields.
Just as described, the keyboard won't type when I initially open it. The keyboard seems to be working, predictive text works, but nothing appears in the text field. If I wait, type on the keyboard a lot (maybe thats just part of waiting) back out of the keyboard repeatedly or restart the app it seems to fix it temporarily. It doesn't seem to matter which apps are running when it happens.
Any ideas people?
I was constantly having this issue on the GB ROMs I used. In both revenant and infused it would happen. I could recreate it by letting my phone lock while the keyboard was open. It always happened to me in stock messaging and Google Voice because I would pause trying to think of what to type. It became so annoying having to kill the app responsible or sometimes restart my phone that I decided to switch back to JB. I'm on the unofficial CM 10.1 now and haven't had one issue with the stock keyboard or Google Keyboard.
I never did try another keyboard or messaging app. You could try forcing your phone to stay awake longer if you notice the same thing I did. If it's just happening randomly then I'm afraid I don't know what to tell you besides that the jelly beans are delicious; you should give into peer pressure and try one.

I have had this issue with my Infuse also, running CM 10.1 Cyber sgs-IV style ROM. It isn't as bad as some of y'all though, it seems to just hang for a few seconds while I'm typing, then the words will catch up. Only seems to happen when I have between 200-500 messages in a thread, so I was thinking it was a memory issue.. but I'm no developer.

Pinch-to-Zoom Change Keyboard Type Not Working?

When I first got this tablet I could pinch-to-zoom and select split keyboard or floating keyboard. Now it's not working. The multi-touch gesture seems to do nothing. The installed version of the keyboard is Samsung Keyboard 1.0. It says in the options that pinch-to-zoom on the keyboard zone would bring up the style selection menu (as it should). It just refuses to recognize my gesture. This is on a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
Anyone else experience this? Any ideas if removing an app or something may have done this? Can't figure it out for the life of me.
Did you try to clear the keyboards data ?
Open apps in setting and clear data and cash of keyboard if not try to find keyboard apk and install if not flash other rom

I tried all the suggestions you guys mentioned and still nothing. I have a feeling the keyboard apk is unable to save data because I am still having this same problem from my previous thread. My internal sdcard refuses to let me delete corrupted files from it again and I think maybe the keyboards settings are saved there. I also cannot save a screenshot or user defined words with my keyboard.

SAME ****
Same problem here, just got new TAB 2
Android 4.0.3 Samsung Keyboard 1.0 pinch to zoom on keyboard not working to choose keyboard style. Tried to clean cahce and so on.. and nothing. Any ideas?
Thank you.
Any one having same problem? Or had in the past?
Wassup With That!?
Go this Nifty Tablet on Sunday and after playing around with Google Maps this morning I noticed the pinch function was not working, I even tried it on a few pictures and in a few web browsers, no luck. i noticed this while playing Video games but i brushed it off, I was playing "Dead Trigger" & "Modern Combat 3" in game the camera goes haywire or would not respond to my touch at all and would continue to not work correctly unless i do a reboot and jump right back in as soon as the tab is back up and running. I have to do this a few times before it all goes back to normal.
I'm wondering if this is a hardware defect and i should return it for a new unit or should i just wait it off untill a new software release hopefully fixes this issue.
or i might just return it and upgrade to a NOTE
Android 4.1.1 - Model GT-P5113
I got this multi touch problem just after i updated the tablet to jb.
Guess its software error or something.
Sometimes works (after reboot) and then it doesnt work anymore.

[Q] Typing/Keyboard Issue

I tried looking online and on here for my problem but I couldn't find anything. I have a stock Droid Charge and I'm having the most terrible time with the keyboard. I'm using Swype and randomly when I try to type nothing shows up in the field. Doesn't matter if I'm googling or texting. I tried clearing the data for Swype and this does nothing. I have to either restart my phone or keep going into the messaging and backing out all the way to the home screen 2-4 times until it works. I have no idea what the issue is, but it's becoming such a problem that I want to get a new phone or possible do a factory reset. (or maybe root eventually?)
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem and know what the solution in, or have any insights of what it could be. I couldn't live without swype and swiftkey is terrible in comparison.

RAM issue...had it happen very frequently with SwiftKey when I had more strict OOM values. Also, try clearing some texts if you have lots of threads, that alleviated some of my RAM issues, including some missed texts.

This is my post from the Tweaked thread...I've had it happen too. Actually, I much prefer SwiftKey over Swype - plus the new update allows you to swype just like Swype.
10char weird post thing just ignore this line

Clearing the threads does nothing for me. Swiftkey makes my phone too laggy. Like I can still type and suggestions pop up from swype or swiftkey, but nothing shows up at all in the field.
What happens if I clear data from the messaging app? Will it just delete all the threads?

Nexus 5 Keyboard Issue- Glitchy and choppy

Hi,
I am sort of new to this forum and I hope I am posting this in the right place. Apologies if there is a thread about this elsewhere but I have looked online and couldn't find a thread about this issue. It is hard for me to describe in words about the issue I am facing but I will try and be as descriptive as possible
For quite sometime now I find that my nexus 5 keyboard has become extremely glitchy and choppy. I find that the keyboard isn't as smooth as it was when I first got my device. There seems to be a bit of a lag between the time I press the key to the when the characters actually appear. It is very apparent when I am typing sentences in one flow. This is causing too many typos and is extremely annoying. I could, at one time, comfortably type long text messages with hardly any typos. The typos that I get can be considered almost impossible to generate unless you are willingly typing random characters
I am on android 4.4.4 and this problem has existed for the past couple of months. I don't have any custom firmware installed. My frequently used messaging apps are Viber, WhatsApp and Google hangouts. But this issue seems to be there even when I am typing something in the browser
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Have you tried a different keyboard? Like SwiftKey

Hi MasterElaichi and welcome to the forums.
The keyboard that your using for your messaging apps is the same as the one in your browser also... Im pretty sure that it's the Google keyboard by default.
I actually use Android Keyboard (AOSP) instead of the standard Google Keyboard and can switch between the two if I want the the system settings menu.
Couple things you could try-
To start you can go to "System Settings/Language and Input" then scroll down to keyboard and input methods. Click on the settings menu to the right of the Google keyboard or what ever keyboard you have selected. and go through you settings and make sure everything is set to your preference (just by chance somehow the settings have change) and check your auto correction aggressiveness, I have mine set to Modest.
Other than that you can try and and go to "System Settings/Apps/All" then select Google keyboard and clear the Data and Cache. This will wipe you personal dictionary if you have one though.
If the following doesn't work and the Google keyboard keeps acting up, you might want to try an different keyboard all together. Like Android Keyboard (AOSP) or Swiftkwey or Kii keyboard... Just some popular one to recommend.
Hi,
Thanks for all your responses. I have tried swiftkey in the past but I find it weird. For some reason I prefer a standard keyboard
My google keyboard settings are set to the default. I have turned off vibrations and the auto correct is set at modest. I have tried clearing the cache numerous times in the past but that doesn't work either
If I were to type this message using my Nexus 5, it would be riddled with typos and spaceless words. I am talking about typos that are impossible to get when you are in the flow and just typing away. For example, when I want to type "m', the letter "m" pops up, but the character that appears in the text area is either "." or the previous character would have disappeared. Similar thing with space bars. Sometimes pressing a space bar will just create a space but the characters may not appear
I have tried using my phone in safe mode but it helps only a little bit. I did contact the google support centre. As expected, they are asking me to do a factory reset and if that doesn't work they say they will rma my phone
Hi,
I uninstalled apps like Viber and Whatsapp thinking they could be the cause. I have also been running my device on safe mode. The problem still persists
I found this thread online. My problem is quite similar this one here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274818
The only difference is that the OP here had an issue with an HTC. The problem appears to be keys that are close together are getting pressed. And I am certain my finger's aren't that fat and stubby that multiple keys get pressed
I don't want to factory reset my phone without exhausting all my options to fix this problem. Any input will be helpful
Thank you
So I have decided to do a hard reset on my phone hoping that would resolve my keyboard issue. I have managed to backup my photos and stuff to google doc. i wanted to back up my whatsapp data onto my laptop but for some reason my laptop (vista) isn't detecting my phone
I have reinstalled whatsapp in the past after removing and I didn't lose my whatsapp data. Do you think a hard reset will make my whatsapp data irretrievable? I am asking because there is an option in whatsapp, when you install it, that asks if you want to back up conversations

if you hard reset and wipe the internal memory then your whatsapp back up will be deleted.
Try and uninstall any keyboard updates you may have done.
I would say the same thing and it would be the first thing I would try, uninstall the updates and data in settings/apps. The google keyboard works fine on my N5 and N7.
I performed a wipe cache partition through recovery mode. There seems to be some improvement but it is too soon to tell
